Can I give this place 10 stars?! We were a group of six celebrating my bachelorette weekend in San Diego and were heading to brunch across the street from Cocomaya--but we were completely lost. Someone noticed and kindly asked where we were trying to go. He mentioned he was a cook at Coco Maya and suggested we check it out, and although we hesitated at first, we decided why not, even though it looked busy. When we walked over, we figured, why not give it a try? And honestly, we got so lucky--there was a table available for all six of us! But that was just the beginning. The service, the food, the drinks, everything was incredible. The views and ambiance were beautiful, the music was great, and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. Our server was amazing, and everything came together perfectly. We even got the chance to thank the cook who pointed us in the right direction, so grateful he did! I will definitely be back. This place made my bachelorette weekend even more special, and I can't wait to come back again!!

Shrimp ceviche - disappointing. (Photo taken after digging in)

I'm sorry to write this review, but unfortunately I ordered the ceviche and it was horrible. It was whole shrimps basically completely lathered in an exceedingly sweet and weird syrup that ruined the whole thing. I was so disappointed. Extra star for friendly staff, well-made drinks, and overall ambiance.

Love this place! The bar upstairs has a really fun vibe, not to mention how you can see the sunset if you're there when the sun goes down. Lots of interesting people come here. All ages are welcome. If you can't do stairs, they also have an elevator you can use to go to the 2nd floor. Do handicap accessible. The bartenders are all very friendly even when it's a Saturday night and it's crazy busy. Drinks are good and food is also delicious. I had the poke which was actually really good. We also had the espresso martini. It's pretty loud with everyone having a great time so expect this when you come. They also have TVs in the bar area with sports events. Also lots of seating besides the bar area. Recommend you make a reservation because this place is hopping.

I came here on a weekend without a reservation and was pleasantly surprised to find seats available at the bar, probably because I arrived before noon. It's located on the second floor, right across from Morning Glory. I ordered the avocado tacos, and they were absolutely delicious. The only downside was that the food took over 30 minutes to arrive, which was a bit surprising. The bartenders were friendly, and the overall vibe strikes a nice balance between casual and dressy, with beautiful aesthetics throughout. I'd recommend making a reservation if you're planning to visit, unless you go during off-peak hours.

Highlights: - rooftop bar/restaurant with great views - immaculate vibes - drink cocktails were about $17/each - would consider coming back to try the food - everyone in the restaurant ordered the mango guava spritz, would highly recommend

Finally got to try this place for brunch! We are celebrating a birthday and we knew we wanted to order that drink tower! I wish I knew the name of our waiter because he was extremely helpful and kind!!! We ordered three Chilaquiles, two w chicken and one w skirt steak. It was absolutely delicious and I love the skirt steak!! Super flavorful!! Drinks were great, service was great and the restaurant is very cute!! Perfect place for a birthday or brunch!!!

We stopped in for a quick drink after being recommended this place and it did not disappoint! It was absolutely gorgeous upstairs, with an outdoor rooftop patio as well as some indoor seating. We just got drinks but the service was so nice and checked in on us frequently! The drinks were delicious, my friends love the espresso martini (comes with whipped cream on top yum!) I got a glass of Rosé and it was delicious, fresh, and perfectly chilled. Will definitely be coming back!

Food: Skirt steak was really good. Well cooked, decent sizing for an entree. Even without sides, pretty filling. Chimichurri sauce was already on the meat, so if you want it on the side, be sure to let the waiter know. Service: Quick service. Everyone from the ushers to the waiters were all very polite and professional. Seating: Plenty of seating, but I recommend getting a reservation as it seems to be a popular spot. Parking: No parking. Recommend getting an Uber/Lyft to avoid the hassle of looking for minimal street parking in Little Italy.

Second time at Coco Maya. Was here for a work thing and everyone loved it. We have a vegan in the group and he had multiple options to choose from the menu. I had the coconut chicken wings with cornbread! So good! Hostess was so funny and helpful! The place takes you away to a beachy vibe feeling. Music is loud but you can still have a conversation.

Another great SD brunch spot to catch up with friends and gossip over drinks. Little Italy does it again. For drinks, this Bloody Mary is extremely thick, heavy, and savory (not a complaint). For brunch, I got the pork belly benefit. Super good except the only critique I have is that I wish there was more than just a singular piece of pork belly. Ketchup also is not your usual ketchup and has a sweet twist to it. Atmosphere is a 10/10, this place is definitely for the girls

Great food, great service, and great views! This little rooftop, brunch spot is right on the corner so you have an amazing view of Little Italy. There are plenty of plants, cute umbrellas, and decor for aesthetic pics. We got the french toast & lobster benedict that were both delicious, our only complaint was there wasn't much lobster on the benedict. There was a bar inside if you're looking to get fun tropical drinks or mimosas with your brunch, we didn't this time but will definitely be back again

It's always a great time visiting Coco Maya. The vibes are great, the music is nice, the views are amazing. The atmosphere inside is gorgeous. The bathrooms are nice. The drink prices are a little bit pricey but hey, you're in the middle of downtown San Diego, little Italy. I love stopping by here, and I will always stop by anytime. I'm in town!

The oxtail tacos and ceviche was great

Everything was perfect easy to make Reservations extremely nice staff. My server was extremely friendly. The manager checked on our table. Everything came out perfect and taste so great and the atmosphere just made everything feel complete. Our New favorite restaurant !

What time does food service stop?

    10 pm tonight.

    What is the average pricing?

The average drinks range from $12-$16. They do have more expensive drinks but Only 3-5 of them are expensive. We did not eat there so I don't know How much is the food cost.

    Is there an elevator?

    Yes

    Are they celiac friendly?

    Yes!

    How's the parking?

It's Little Italy so it can be difficult, but there are a lot of self park lots but can be costly if you can't find street parking.

    Is this place kid-friendly?

I would probably suggest taking your kids here either for breakfast , lunch/ early dinner. It gets crowed at night. Feels more like an adult hang out spot. There is no kid menu.

I don't see many vegan options on the menu - do you have a separate vegan menu, or vegan substitutions that are not listed on your website?

Unfortunately they don't; food selection is very limited at this time while they're still trying to find their groove. Otherwise vibe is great and the patio is the bomb.

    What are their hours?

We made a reservation and although we arrived on time, we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. I agree with some of the other commenters when they say that the revolving fireplace needs some love. It has the look and feel of needing to be updated. Also, for it to be a "speakeasy" vibe, you could hear the loudness of the bar through the walls. It just kind of ruins the facade a little bit. Regardless, we enjoyed the novelty of being slowly admitted to the speakeasy on the opposite side. We were given seats and upon first glance it was a dark lit space with an old fashioned aesthetic. I was surprised to see how casual everyone was dressed- I assumed there was a dress code, but I guess flip flops made the cut ‍. It took a few minutes for our server to attend to us, and when he did you could tell he was slammed. We just didn't get the table side manner one was hoping for an establishment like this. Peeking at their drink menu, I found myself disappointed that much of their options had a lot of sweet or fruit juice ingredients. So, I went for their old fashioned. For the price, it was just okay. Another disappointing moment. In all, it wasn't terrible, but it just isn't worth the hype. Overpriced and mediocre drinks and a seemingly overworked staff didn't make for a memorable experience and ended up not being for us. Glad to have tried it...but look elsewhere if you've actually been to a speakeasy. This just doesn't live up to what it's trying to sell you.

The cocktails were also much stronger than anticipated. We sat at the bar this time instead of at a table, and the seating felt very cramped. The bar stools were so close to the standing area that it was difficult to even pull out a chair without people brushing past.
