This so-called fro-yo craze has hit the bay area. Wasn't sure whether it would work in the East Bay. My girlfriend is a big Pinkberry fan, and I like Pinkberry too. Then again, I wasn't sure how Coco Swirl would translate in the confines of Pleasant Hill. When you enter, you'll notice the place is small. They have a few tables and barstools, but there are plenty of benches along the street to sit down. The price is reasonable, and you get to put on all the toppings yourself. Then again, like another reviewer said, you gotta have self-restraint. This might be the x-factor compared to other shops, where they put the toppings on for you. The yogurt flavor is tart but sweet, and the mango and strawberry flavors are sweet enough so you don't need toppings. On average, a small cup will go for 4 bucks with a few toppings. Will I go back? During this kinda summer heat, most definitely. But also, the staff and owners are incredibly friendly. Their friendliness is what deserves the 4th star. read more

ideal froyo temp and consistency, tho the consistency can be off a bit if you get a bad batch...4 instead of 5 stars fresh toppings and the ones I like: soft mochi, sometimes soft gummy bears, always fresh strawberries and kiwi...wish they had finely chopped nuts (a basic that is missing) 4 instead of 5 stars their flavors are generally awesome: love their pineapple (if you like tart), orange cream is a winner, their basic chocolate and vanilla are good...bana is great. 5 stars no monitoring of customer behavior...everytime i go there it looks like the staff get younger and younger...a 14 year old counter staff will not tell a mother w/ kids not to finger the toppings or machine...not that teenagers in general would really care...no telling what's going on....but I haven't personally seen any gross offenses...3 stars price...it ain't cheap...feel like you get "more" for the same price at cold stone...4 stars. it's a froyo place...ambiance is as expected, parking can be a hassle, but i always manage to find a spot...i like that they are open late..till 10pm. read more

BUYER BEWARE- Used my Debit card to purchase yogurt. Noticed they use a PayPal to charge my card. A week later a bank statement showed there being a $1100 charge through PayPal. Called PayPal and they told me that someone billed my card through PayPal for some bogus house cleaning. Very skeptical, won't be returning. Service was also rather terrible. read more

This is the best frozen yogurt. It's clean and it's fresh. They keep the toppings fresh and cut just right. I love the pistachio yogurt, the green tea is just right and tart, and the strawberry is crisp and tart. I have visiting this place as much as 3 times in a week and I live in Pittsburg. This place is good. I came here for a snack and had the Ghiradelli chocolate and vanilla yogurt and I topped it off with mounds of kiwi, strawberries, granola, and blueberries. The place was packed when I got there because it was almost 90 degrees outside. I do love frozen yogurt and had a decent snack. I was upset that they did not have ube/taro flavor which is my favorite. I would have given an extra star if they offered my favorite flavor. The unlimited amount of toppings is nice, but the downside is they charge extra if you use your credit card/debit card for any purchases less than $10. **Caution if you have food sensitivities** If you have food sensitivities (Gluten, Dairy, Nuts etc) beware of this place! The toppings bar has a sign above it that says that all toppings may have trace nuts. This sign is great, its clear, bright colors, and visible BEFORE you put these things on your yogurt. However there is another sign, black and white, near the cash register, (Not near the actual yogurt) obscured by several photos, that show what flavors of yogurt have additional allergens. They have beaten out yogurt land for me! They have ice cream filled donuts! They also have Thai ice tea...three of my favorite things in one location. Problem is the parking, the service was great, though! Fun place for kids and I like the healthier option of froyo over ice cream! read more

Baaaad experience. Took my grandaughter for a treat. The almonds on my vanilla were rancid. Took it back to counter to tell them and get another and the gal said I'd have to pay again.WHAT???? My daughters and I went to check out this yougurt bar last night. We liked the flavors...lots of great ones to choose from. But otherwise, the whole flow of the place was in disarray. It was busy and people were trying to get yogurt and then bumping into people to get toppings. No one to give samples of flavors. For 40 cents and ounce I would expect a lot more customer service. There was no where to hang out and sit. At least anywhere that looked comfortable. The toppings were getting mixed with each other and not convenient to get. And the chocolate and carmel were two gross bottles sitting to the side...kind of gross. I would not go out of my way to go back. read more

My wife and I were visiting Pleasant Hill when we came upon a new business "COCO Swirl." We love frozen yogurt and thought we'd give it try. The first things we noticed were the price, .40 an ounce and free toppings. Great concept, the customer serves themselves and pays by actual weight. Let's be honest: it's froyo. There's not that much of a difference, right? Well they definitely don't have the best selection of flavors or toppings. But I've been to a few other places that somehow just have inconsistent yogurt (too sugary, strange texture, etc). This place is at least very consistent. If we're ranking frozen yogurt places, coco swirl does not sit high on my list. First of all, I can't be trusted to sample on my own?! So upsetting. Because not only do I feel pressured while the guy is standing there, I feel slightly judged. Aside from that, and the fruit looking pretty sad (definitely sitting out awhile) next to the slim pickings of toppings the yogurt itself is delicious. I can't tell you how long I was waiting for this place to open. I've had my eye on it since the construction phase in January (?). Since it open in May, I can say that it was truly worth the agonizing wait. :) By far, the tastiest frozen treat in the Pleasant Hill area. I love frozen yogurt (real yogurt that is) and I have to say this is one fantastic yogurt. I like that there are some regular flavors and some flavors that change daily. My favorites so far are: regular tart, tart mango, cheesecake, and the sugar-free strawberry. The toppings look pretty fresh and the lychee jelly is a favorite. Nice staff who are happy to sample the different flavors if you ask. The downside of self-serve food (this includes salad bars) - some people are just plain nasty. I went here the other day and was impressed with the yogurt selection, not too many funky random flavors, which was great...because it's harder to mix random flavors. The staff was really friendly, and the place was very clean, my complaint was the .40 fee for using a credit card. Yesterday I had cash, but usually I only carry a credit card, so the transaction fee is rather annoying, plus the cash policy reminds me of all the hippies who only accept cash in Berkeley. read more

Recently we've been trying different yogurt shops. Whenever we see one, we try. And I like this place a lot! The yogurt was a little on the creamy side but they tasted very good. They have about 10 flavors and my favorites are banana, mango and Irish mint. The toppings are fresh. The man who worked there (may be the owner) was very polite and friendly. Yummy low-fat alternative to cold stones, which is right across the street. It's a do-it-yourself yogurt place, where they charge by how much your yogurt and toppings weigh. The only draw back was that they should have had more assorted toppings, such as brownie bites and chocolate syrup, things like that. Just went in here for the first time this past Saturday and I'm already thinking about the next time I can go back!!!! So good. Had the red velvet fro yo, and by gosh was it good. I went for the boba, the tea was pretty strong, not much taste and the boba was weirdly sour... very interesting. I think they didn't do the syrup correctly for the boba as it wasn't sweet like other places. I can't attest for the yogurt... this is a tea and boba review only. Yay! Finally a tart fro yo place close to us in the East Bay. Many many choices, great location, and my favorite...they have the best mochi that I have ever tasted! **Update on 10/14: As a loyal customer (with no affiliation to the ownership), I would like to comment on Patty W.'s complaint about the $.40 charge for non-cash purchases under $10. Each debit and credit card transaction cost businesses $.42 per transcation, no matter how small or large. So if you purchase a cup of yogurt for $3.50, Coco Swirl only gets $3.08 for that cup of yogurt. For a small business with the majority of its transactions under $15, that $.42 makes a huge difference at the end of each day. I would prefer Coco Swirl to charge me $.40 more instead of raising prices for all of its customers, both cash and debit, OR as other establishments have been doing, requiring all customers to use cash. Trust me, if you forget the cash, Coco Swirl is still work the extra $.40 cents! YUM. read more

CS is a real contender. Before the proliferation of the Yogurtland franchise it was the only game in town. Now the two are a toss up. More choices at YL, but sometime better quality at CS. Also sometimes better flavors at CS. But only YL has cheesecake bits. Both have mochi which is a requirement. read more

I would agree with several of the others, this place is overrated compared to some of the other yogurt places out there. It is, as they say, the only show in town. My wife and I visit for a quick dessert after dinner at one of the near by restaurants. My beef would be the flavors aren't great and the dispensers seem to dribble a bit before sending through solid yogurt. At one point in my life I used to work with these sorts of machines ( could take one apart in my sleep) it's doesn't have to be that way. Plus they charge you a fee if you use a credit or ATM card and your purchase isn't above a certain amount. Who still does that!?! Oh and for those folks that think that this stuff is somehow "healthy". Read the labels, 3g of protein and 14g of sugar per serving. A pretty poor ratio for something with non fat milk as the first ingredient..... and what the heck is "corn sweetener"? Sounds like corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup to me. As far as boba goes, this place is a no go!!! Thai iced tea tastes really watered down and bland. And boba was too squishy for my liking (it was cooked too long). BUT as far as froyo goes, this place is great. Yogurt was very creamy and exploded with flavor. Definitely stick to frozen yogurt! You're better off going somewhere else if you need a boba fix. read more
