Pretty damn good walnut pastries but it's expensive!

Their Coffee is delicious (I've always stuck with the Hazelnut) and so is their walnut pastry. Prices are spot on as well. I wish they had just a couple more variety as far as their walnut pastry went, since it's a neat idea; but I appreciate the consistency and sticking to what they are good and known for...instead of those places where they are good at a certain thing and turn out a year later to over expanding their menu and becoming a lackluster shop. Wow! Such a nice place to go for some sweets from sweet employees/owners! Free samples, they practically insisted when I declined. But glad I did taste one, it made the sale happen. Ok so I went here because I read all these reviews on yelp and happen to be in the area. It was something different so of course it caught my interest. This walnut pastry is just a-ok to me. The red bean filling didn't have much taste to it. I think it could have used a stronger flavor because the bread/pastry that encased the filling was the only thing I really tasted. I would rather eat a ball of just the bread/pastry part without the filling. OVERALL: It was worth the try.. for 9 pieces it was only $3. It wasn't bad tasting at all, but at the same time it wasn't the most delicious pastry I've had. For what it was, it was just OK. Located in a strip mall, the place's claim to fame is the walnut-containing walnut-looking baked good with red bean paste. However, to me it is just a taiyaki (you know, Japanese fish baked good with red bean too). The difference is the cuteness as a walnut looking ball. Nice wrapping but need to eat it fresh to enjoy. Very cute little cafe! Came in and it was empty. All the workers were friendly and got greeted right away. We ordered a berry shaved ice and did not have to wait long for it. This place gets pretty crowded around lunch time and dinner time. I havent tried any of there drinks, but the hodo "aka walnut cracker" is soooooo good! Its not as good as something you can get on the streets of Korea, but it's so much better than the walnut crackers you can buy at the market. you can also get a sample of one if you ask! read more

Located in Hannam Plaza surrounded with many stores. I ordered the Korean walnut pastries and coffee. You will always see an old Korean crowd here. Most young people have different taste and go to the modern Korean bakeries more. I think its good if you like Korean walnut pastries (red bean and nut) but if you not into that, it might not be the place you like. Smoothies and other drinks seem just okay. I did like the coffee but service can be slow at times when there are many people due to short staff. Plenty of parking but always hard to find parking during peak hours because it shares a parking lot. read more

Our server was very helpful in translating the menu of teas for us, and based on her recommendations my husband tried the sanghwa tea which he loved. I chose the plum tea which was very flavorful. Found this little gem on yelp and asked one of my korean friends "What is a Hodo Gwaja?" After he didn't know what it was I had to go see for myself and im glad I did. The moment I walked in I was greeted warmly and was offered a sample of hodo gwaja. It was warm and fresh! I brought a medium bag($5 no tax) to share with my family. The pastry is wrapped cutely and shaped as a walnut. My family really enjoyed the pastries. It makes a cute gift to relatives or friends. I highly recommend trying this place once. Cute little place, all I really wanted was Mochi but they only had original flavored and green tea both filled with red beans (which I don't like). We bought a piece of green tea Mochi but it wasn't too good so instead we got some green tea organic ice cream and decaf mocha ice cream, both were very good. Delicious walnut/red bean pastry! Fresh out of the oven and super cheap for a lot of the goodies! The 'walnut cookies' are slightly crispy on the outside and then super soft & sweet on the inside. I've never had a "walnut pastry" ever so I asked the person behind the counter and told me about it and gave me sample and lets just say, I was able to finish 9 of those cute balls in one sitting. It is a good mixture of red bean filling, walnut, and their warm breading - I don't know how to explain it. Only downside to this area is the excessive noise from other customers, which I truly understand and respect because this is a place to interact and catch up but if you would want to study and get some work done, I suggest that you bring your own headphones and just tune out from all of the noise. Just went there hour ago and they were selling cold leftover hodo. asked for a refund and the casher gave me an attitude. told me that that's all they have so they can't do anything about it. just go home and microwave it... The place is in a shopping mall hidden like a gem. It is family run. All the signs are in Korean. Their specialty is a small pastry filled with red bean and a walnut. The combination is exquisite. My bf was on yelp searching for dinner and somehow stumbled upon this place. It was our first time here upon telling the girl that she offered us samples. This pastry is cute, it's shaped like a walnut and is filled with a red bean paste and chopped walnuts. Came here for some coffee and walnut pastries! The best walnut pastries I've had in SoCal hands down! Their cocohodo iced coffee is really good too. I will def come back here next time! Only down side is there's limited outdoor seating and I had my dog with me so we ended up eating in the car because all the outdoor seating was taken :( read more
