Tried the small bag with 10 warm pastries each individually wrapped. I appreciated that I didn't have to touch them with my hand. I uploaded the updated prices for their menu. It comes out to less than 50 cents a pastry. The bean paste wasn't overly sweet luckily. Slight sweetness with a nice crunch from the walnut. Loved the pastry. Goes well with coffee. Small place with both indoor and outdoor seating, quick service, competitive prices in the plaza. And if you eat in, they heat up the walnut pastry for you! The walnut pastries are sold in many different packages, up to 36 count. But you can also buy individual ones ($0.48 apiece), and if you eat in they will heat them up for you. The outer shell is a semi-sweet bread with crushed walnut pieces in it, and the inside filling is a red bean paste. When heated, it's almost like a chocolate lava cake, not as sweet but just as good. They also have 2 types of shaved ice, one based on water (more expensive) and one based on milk. We opted for the later, and I would recommend it. The shaved milk produced a cream as it melted, enjoyable sensation and tasty. The strawberry flavor comes with a thinly sliced strawberry, a red syrup, pink powder, some mochi, and sliced walnut. Amazing golden walnut treats! Served fresh and tasty, these bad boys come out piping hot. Golden bread encases a soft red bean center with a walnut surprise in the middle. Each treat is individually wrapped. It is like an angel's breath. You can opt for two packaging, one of which is a gift box. The gift boxes are nice and reminded me of how hand made mochi is wrapped. If I had one word to describe these treats it would be "mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!" These treats last for a few days. I do have to admit, they tasted best right when they were made. They do make these as you order them. Don't get me wrong, a day later they were still fantastic. My suggestion is order a few and eat them right away. Then, make sure you order enough to take home. I only purchased the medium bag. These were almost gone by the end of the night. A larger bag would have been better. If you grew up in Korea you should be familiar with hodo gwaja. If not, you've been deprived. For non-Koreans these are walnut shaped bread/cake filled with sweet red beans and walnut pieces. I usually bought these at Korean markets, which were ok, but this place takes it up a notch. These are warm and fresh when you order, not too sweet, and have big chunks of walnut inside. You can purchase them in a snack bag or in a gift box. The bags are cheaper. The boxes are great for gifts and they even gift wrap them for you. I bought a bag of 21 pieces of hodo gwaja for $7.00 and $5 for 12 pieces in a gift box. Each piece is individually wrapped in a tissue like paper. They also serve tea and coffee drinks. I tried their hazelnut coffee and jasmine tea. They were ok, nothing spectacular, but they go well with hodo gwaja, especially the coffee. If you are here for the first time, you should get combo A which gives you one house coffee and 4 pieces of hodo gwaja for $3.25. It's a good way to sample their products without spending too much. Located in a plaza with other Korean restaurants and businesses with plenty of parking. I came by Cocohodo with my husband last Saturday early evening/ late afternoon a little before 5 pm. There was no one in line, but one table of people drinking their coffee. This was our first time coming here and I knew they are known for their walnut pastries. So as we came in, we were immediately acknowledged by a lady behind the counter. I told her this was our first time. She then got a walnut pastry (nice and warm) and let us try one. She told us that they make these walnut pastries 4 times a day (so that they have a fresh batch daily). This walnut pastry is delicious and just confirmed the reason why I wanted to come here, so I ended up ordering 1 medium bag (comes with 15 pieces) of these ($5.95 total, no tax is charged). Inside this cute little walnut pastry is one walnut and red bean filling. The filling isn't too sweet, but just sweet enough. The added crunch from the walnut gives a nice nutty flavor that complements the red bean filling. I would definitely come back here to buy more of these again in the future. By the way, I asked the lady if I need to place them in the fridge. She said if it is after 2 days, then you should. But is okay to be left out if you finish it within the 2 days. They were open on Christmas which was nice. The pastries here are pretty good and they keep well. The price is also decent. Parking is plentiful as they share a massive lot. There might be a language barrier though as the employee I interacted with couldn't really understand English all that well and we went back and forth on clarifying just one item haha. I also ordered a coffee which was good, not watered down, and for a good price. I don't drink my coffee sweet or with cream and the house coffee was perfect on its own. This is such a cute place. I tried to come here 2 previous times but it was my fault for coming around closing time since they stop making food about 30min to an hour before closing. However, it didn't stop me from wanting to try it. When I did, I thought that it was such an adorable little shop with a wonderful product. They specialize in basically soft breaded pastries with walnuts at the core. The walnuts were always soft and warm. It went really well with a coffee. I thought it was an adorable shop because it was small and well decorated, and the activity of eating small pastries while drinking coffee is fun for me lol. No pic for this review...it went straight into garbage at front door. Since my wife can't have milk, I asked to make sure the shaved ice was not made with frozen milk. They confirmed it was not. When my wife took her first spoon, it was milk. They poured milk on top of the shaved ice. Why? When she went back inside to ask why there was milk in it, they said "it wouldn't taste good without it". They refused to make a new one without the milk and refused to give a refund. Warm and toasty. A good amount of sweet-but-not-too-sweet red bean paste on the inside. SO GOOD! Like a mini walnut shaped anko-pan. They're just perfect with a cup of coffee or tea. Sometimes, even Filipinos have blonde moments. Case in point............. So, I come to Buena Park to attend a wedding. But, because I'm always looking for the local city's best delicacies, I turned to Yelp. We went straight over there before going home. What they're known for is these Walnut and Red Bean pastries. When served warm, they are delicious! How did I know? Because they gave me a free sample. After the sample, I got a gift box to take home to the rest of the family. Everyone else seemed to echo my statement. Even they next day, they were good. Especially when warmed for a few seconds in the microwave. This is a place I would definitely go back to if I was ever in Buena Park again......... or willing to drive 5 minutes from my house. Years from now, people will confidently say that Cocohodo is what made the Hodo Gwaja famous. If you have yet to visit a location in SoCal and ask for a FREE sample, you're seriously missing out. HODO GWAJA Mixture of walnut, red bean paste, and dough molded into a walnut shape. I recommend getting the 15 piece snack pack for $5. Even after a day or so, each morsel tastes pretty damn good after reheating it for 10 seconds or so in the microwave. Try adding some coffee or tea in the morning. MOCHI Cocohodo is branching out by adding Mochi to the mix. For a limited time only, you can choose from Original, Green Tea, Chocolate, or Strawberry Mochi. They're all natural, low fat, gluten free desserts filled with sweet red bean filling. A single mochi costs $1.75 with an assorted triple pack for $4.95. I was hesitant to try them, but all of them tasted really soft, fresh, and yummy. The Chocolate had little bits of chips which really made them delightful. That was my GO TO favorite. MORE TO CHOOSE FROM I'm not sure how they brew their coffee, but it's really great. A simple cup of java never tasted so good. I tend to opt for the Iced Coco Latte. Rich, full of flavor, and just sweet enough to not be overbearingly sugary. They also have an Affogato, which is organic vanilla bean ice cream with a double shot of premium expresso. Shaved Ice? All Cocohodo locations offer consistently same taste. So what made me rate this location a 5star place? The service and mind set of the employee. I came in an hour and a half before closing, they didn't have fresh batch. One of the girls told me that they made them at around 7 ish, so the hodo gwa jas are not piping hot, but too cold either, they are still warm. (What a descriptive explanation! I love it) She doesn't offer a sample ( maybe she would, if I were a cute guy or a famous yelper, or a regular? Lol, I don't know), but she is definitely willing to meet a customers satisfation. I asked her when fresh batches come out through out a day, she said 5 times, for morning, 15 minutes after opening, for evening, 7 to 8 in the evening, also she offered if I call ahead before, she could pre-bake them. What a great way to serve your customer? I love how much she is informative and knows what's going on at the store. It was nice to stumble upon this place coming to BCD next door for dinner. I snuck out after our order was placed at BCD and came here to grab some walnut pastries. A large bag of 21 balls was $7. Reasonable prices, good service, and nice warm walnut pastries; so far so good. Not sure if I got a bad batch, but I felt the red bean filling inside was a bit too mushy and wet. I don't remember walnut pastry being this mushy and wet inside and it was somewhat disappointing. Came here to check this out after seeing pics from others. This is located off Beach Blvd in Buena Park. It's in a plaza shared with other businesses good amount of parking. When walking up to here first I noticed a big table outside full of people then walked inside and all the big tables were taken as well with family's seems like a pretty popular place. I really didn't know what to get or try so I asked a bunch of questions about their stuff and the worker try to answered them best as she could I could tell she had a little trouble understanding and responding to my basic questions so she let me sample one of the walnut pastry since I didn't want to buy a whole bag. It was pretty good. I ended up just getting a cold citrus tea which was good and tasty. They have shave ice as well which looked good in the pictures but I know I wouldn't have finished it by myself. This honorary Asian gives Cocohodo 5 stars! The ambiance is adorable and really clean. Even their chairs are cushy and so comfortable (unlike other coffee shops). Service here is SUPERB--that stood out to me. Management and employees alike have been friendly, polite, and helpful during every visit. Very generous samples (2 pastries) offered for first timers and those who check in. The Coco Latte ($3.95) is so good, and available hot or iced. Their Carmel Machiatto was also among the best I've tasted. An earlier reviewer suspects that there's crack in their brew...my taste buds would agree. These balls are the BEST when they're fresh off the assembly line. Inside, the store was clean. My only complaint is the cleanliness of the outdoor seating. I brought my shih tzu with me and leashed her to an empty table. In my haste, I failed to notice that the outdoor seating area was littered with cigarette butts. I've been traumatized by caffe benes so called "mojito" I definitely like cocohodo's version of mojito lot better! I've been so hooked on mango berry mojito. It has mango and strawberry bits with mojito flavoring syrup mixed with tonic water I think... And lime and mint I personally wish they would crush the mint leaves and add it together but since they don't, I ask for extra mint to maintain the "mojito" taste and extra like slices because it can get too sweet! Never heard of this place but happen to see the big red "Now Open" banner while doing some shopping at the Korean supermarket in the same parking lot. Quick check on Yelp (I have to say that since getting my smartphone 3 months ago and therefore having spur-of-the-moment access to Yelp, I have gained weight because it always points me in the direction of some tasty business), and I decided to walk across the parking lot to see what this "walnut pastry" was all about. I didn't look around all that much, but I think this is literally all that they sell (minus different beverages). Ordered 9 pieces for $3. Each one is individually wrapped (~1.5 inch diameter) in white tissue paper and placed in a paper bag. If you wanted to present this is as a gift, they also have a gift box option for a little more. When you unwrap, there is a lightly sweetened pancake that's molded like a walnut shell (aka, a tiny brain). The chew is soft with some give, and yields red bean paste and a whole walnut sitting on the bottom. I'm not Korean, but from reading other reviews this is actually a thing in Korea? In other asian cultures, there are similar desserts minus the walnut. Sort of gimmicky shaped like a walnut and only works because there is an actual walnut inside vs. having it shaped as a walnut but having no walnut inside. Not too sweet. Perfect for an asian palate. Came here with my friend for a catchup date and to try their bingsoo. Got the Berry one but asked for green tea ice cream instead of whatever flavor ice cream they normally give. The quick rundown: -Food: Ordered shaved ice with fruit. It was pretty delicious (especially since I had it on a ridiculously hot, 100 degree day), and I liked how the ground ice was on the fine side. They were decently generous with toppings, although I would have liked to see more fruit (only got bananas and blueberries...). I came here for their patbingso........aaaaaand it was absolutely mediocre. I expect my fruit patbingsos to come with a hefty variety of fruit, azuki beans, condensed milk, mochi balls, cereal, and a huge huuuuuuuge serving of roasted grain powder (misugaru). It's especially awesome when you can mix it all together for that perfect bite. Oh the joy! Patbingsos are intended to give hope to the hopeless...ESPECIALLY on a hot summer's day. Their berry patbingso came with some strawberries, blueberries, bananas, azuki beans, mochi balls...and a miserable sprinkle of misugaru. I mean...did they even try? Where's the love y'all?
