I ordered the short rib panang Curry and the papaya salad. both pleasantly surprised me because I was not expecting such a good experience. I started with the papaya salad. That was over all very fresh and offered a good balance of textures between the papaya and pump shrimp served on top. The complementary combination of tartness from the dressing and sweetness from the shrimps was very tasty. The Curry was the perfect matching of French meets Thai food. The beef was extremely tender and the massaman curry was the perfect level of complexity and sweetness. None of the flavors not overpowered the natural ingredients. The portions of protein and vegetables we're also well-balanced. To make the experience even better, the wait staff was very attentive and kind. I would highly recommend the dining experience at the Coconut Rabbit if you would like affordable and delicious Thai food eaten inside a pleasantly decorated restaurant. read more

I heard so many good things about Coconut Rabbit, I was excited to finally hit this place. They offer very good Thai food, and are located just west of Katella Deli on Katella Ave & Noel in Los Al. We started off w/ the larb wings ($11 | 7 wings). For our entrees, we chose off the lunch special menu. The specials inc rice, soup & salad. I chose the panang chicken curry, and my friend chose the yellow curry (not pictured). First of all, the wings had nice flavor. However, the waitress said they were a little spicy, and they were not. The wings were more sour vs any other flavor: 3 Stars. On the other hand, our curries were excellent. The curries were silky smooth, and packed a punch. Additionally, they were bursting w/ flavor. I was SMAO (sweating my a$$ off). The curries were on par w/ the best Thai restaurant in OC, Thai Nakorn in GG: 5 Stars. Regarding the ambiance, the restaurant is located in a sterile strip mall. In addition, the restroom is unisex: 3 Stars. Likewise, the service was friendly & attentive. My only issue was that we asked for more napkins because the wings were messy, and we were given one: 3 Stars. A definite must visit if you are in Kelley U's ghetto of Los Al (lmao). Not the best Thai food, but still fairly good. I give this restaurant 3.5 stars, but generously rounded it up to 4 stars.. Since I had Coconut Rabbit bookmarked and was in the mood for Thai, I decided to finally pay the restaurant a visit. I ordered the appetizer trio (4 of each): mini vegetable egg rolls, corn fritters, triangle taro (something). This appetizer platter was really good. The corn fritters are a MUST!!! Next up, shrimp pad Thai. I was not a fan. It tasted a bit bland! Even the shrimp was flavorless. There were some other dishes on the menu I want to try, so I'll be coming back. They're a real good restaurant. The food is amazing. Just hard to understand the English speaking when ordering. They couldn't understand that I'm allergic to shellfish and when I asked to put the shrimp aside from the pineapple rice, they took it out of the rice and just put it on a small place instead of making fresh new rice. The rice had already been cross contaminated and i would've had a reaction had I not noticed the little bits of rice stuck on the shrimp. read more

Ordered Papaya salad, jungle noodle & garlic chicken- the serving portions were smaller than avg and I felt both the garlic chicken and papaya salad were just totally over sugared. Entree: Shrimp Pad Thai- delicious not too soggy and they gave the tiger shrimps plump and juicy. Wished the portion was bigger. We were invited by some friends to join them for dinner and this place didn't disappoint. Small, quaint and well decorated, the food was simply superb. We sampled a couple of dishes, started out with the Coconut Rabbit Dumpling which was delicious, I woud recommend. I had the Short Rib Massaman Curry which you can get mild in spicyness with rice. You can try the Roti Prata, but I am a traditional curry eater so I had the rice. Very tasty and flavorful with a hint of sweetness. The short ribs were very tender and delicious. Everything that I've ordered has been fresh and "light" (I don't feel super full after eating). The service is sweet and efficient. The ambiance is quaint. Definitely for a smaller party of folks (I'd say no more than 6). The wrapped sushi and coconut dumplings and Thai iced tea are a few of my go to items. Short rib curry had a delicious silky smooth curry sauce with perfectly tender meat. Definitely the overall winner of the night & something we would order again! Tamarind chicken had an amazing sauce and thick slices of chicken breast. Delicious! I ordered the corn fritters on a whim because it popped up as a highly rated item in the reviews. They're beautifully plated in a light crispy shell filled with corn & lightly crunchy somethingness...but for $8 to 7 little cups, its not something I'll order again. The pineapple fried rice was lightly seasoned with curry powder and I liked the fat random shrimp & bits of crunchy vegetables. It was the least favorable dish in the Hubs eyes. He said it was a little bland & neither here nor there. While waiting to pay, 2 orders of the pad see ew came out & looked (and smelled) phenomenal! I didn't see any char but I'd definitely order it the next time I'm here. The one young woman holding down the taking of orders, clearing tables, answering the phone, handling the register & serving the food....give her a raise! She's amazing and held her sparkling demeanor under the greatest of pressure. YUCK. I'm not kidding when I say I threw my meal away. Every time I order pad thai from a restaurant on Postmates it's disappointing. I looked up reviews for this spot before ordering and it's still SO bad. Pad thai was $12, which is expensive compared to most places but I still decided to give it a shot thinking it's be worth it. I received my order and I could tell from the color that it was going to be bad. The noodles are practically translucent like there's no sauce and what do you know, it is literally tasteless! This is some of the worst pad thai I've ever had and it's now in the trash. I hate writing negative reviews but I felt this is warranted. read more

My place in Corona Del Mar takes half a tank to get to and back, so I thought we'd give this place a go. We ordered for takeout because, well, that's what's available. - yellow curry with chicken - green curry with pork - pad see ew with pork - pad thai with shrimp What was good: 1. FLAVOR of the food: was on track. The curries were fragrant and fabulous, and the pork dishes had plenty of meat. 2. Noodles: well cooked, not soggy or greasy. 3. Ease of finding the place (more on this later) 4. Fast, friendly service Why I'm hesitant to come back: 1. odd vegetable pieces: in our yellow curry, there wasn't a lot of chicken, which I can live with, but there wasn't really anything else either. We had these HUGE chunks of carrots - we're talking I cut down one piece to 6 pieces big. And there are four more like that in there. 2. odd containers: this is a Thai place. There are soup noodles, soups and curries that will be ordered frequently. So wouldn't they get those cylinder containers with the lids on top? You would think that would be logical, but they used the same containers as the noodle dishes. There was no spillage in the car, but it just isn't convenient to dish out when you're in your kitchen. I know this is picky but that really bothered me. 3. pricing: $15 for shrimp pad thai. $13 for yellow chicken curry that was mostly curry (not veggies or chicken like in the picture). I work hard for my money and I don't think these pricing was great. Not to mention the portion sizes were less than generous. I'm in a hard spot - I mean everything TASTED really good. I don't want to come back but I might have to because this is the closest Thai place to me that's somewhat decent. The search goes on for a great Thai place close to me, I'm afraid! Note: I almost got hit twice backing my van out from the parking space. Maybe it's the time of day I went (lunch time Sat), but holy cheese! People drive a little too fast for my speed in that parking lot. And there wasn't even that many people there!!! Just be careful when you're going to this complex, that's all I'm saying. read more

Tried this place after reading an article in my AAA magazine and it's been my go-to place for Thai food ever since. The food is great - my favorites are the eggplant with tofu or chicken, jungle noodles and crab fried rice. Absolutely delicious! Came in here on a Saturday evening and had great service & very delicious food! We ordered the coconut rabbit dumpling (it was okay) but the real treasure was their Masauman Short Rib Curry which was very flavorful and delicious. The short rib was also of great quality and there is a nice size portion of it in the curry. We also had the crying tiger salad which was also very yummy! Definitely recommend this place! Where was the last time you had exceptionally good Thai food? And no, anywhere in Thailand doesn't count. Mine's easy. Coconut Rabbit. Let me start with the free check-in offer of one free LIME THAI ICED TEA. That's instantly a $3.50 savings for each of your party who has a Yelp account. And it's not just any freebie, it's similar to a Thai iced tea but instead of milk, they add lime, lots of it. It's the perfect thirst quencher that's very refreshing and delicious in an interesting way. That goes without saying, don't forget to check-in! We ordered quite a variety of dishes and shared them family-style. The good ones were the PAPAYA SALAD ($9.50) and YELLOW CURRY w/ CHICKEN ($11.50). Their PAD THAI ($10) was great and you get none of that awful noodle texture that's either under or overcooked. Moreover, the seasoning was flawlessly balanced with sweet and savory notes. It'll be sacrilege not to order this when you're here. Now, sit tight and prepare yourself to be blown away by the following dishes I will mention. First of, their TOM KHA GAI ($11.50) is a bowl of pure goodness. The broth is so creamy yet light and I love how it's so packed with in-depth flavors. Sweet, sour, and lightly spicy...mmhmm! The abundance of chicken, mushrooms, and cherry tomatoes mixed-in will certainly fill you up so plan to share this bowl with about 3 other people. SHORT RIB PANANG ($14) is another definite must-order. They can seriously add more meat here and with less fat at that, however, I can easily dismiss that because the sauce...WOW! It's phenomenal. That's one thing they don't skimp on so we had a big bowl of just sauce left after all the meat was gone. Nonetheless, we killed it pairing it with rice and left the bowl dry. TAMARIND CHICKEN ($12). Now, this one of a kind dish was certainly unexpected. It's battered chicken that's fried and smothered with delectable sauce. It has toothsome flavors of sourness from the tamarind and sweetness from the sugarcane, not to mention the beautiful hint of lime leaves that only makes this dish shine all the more. Oh I'm not done, it's then topped with crispy Thai basils for that welcomed texture, of course. Genius! All good things must come to an end but we can't leave without trying "the best dessert in OC". We saw an article in front of the restaurant giving them that accolade for their PANNA COTTA ($3.75). We had to try it. We picked blueberry and raspberry and I must say, there is some truth in that write-up. It's oh so creamy with just the perfect jiggle and vanilla sweetness...absolutely decadent. Folks, this is a winner! Service was exceptional. With only two people working the dining area and a restaurant so full, I don't know how they did it but they were on top of things. They're getting famous by the minute so plan ahead and make a reservation to beat the wait. Easy 5 stars! read more

I'm loving this Los Alamitos gem... I came here with one other yelper for lunch. Upon arriving, I checked in and got a free lime thai tea. It was delicious! Once my girlfriend arrived, we ordered off their lunch combos. I went for the red curry and she got a beef with green bean combo. Both our dishes came with rice and a salad. My red curry was flavorful and spicy in a good way. Very satisfying and filled with flavors. I had a bite of her beef and green bean and equally as good. After our delicious meal, they gave us desserts. It was coconut ice cream topped with pineapple chunks. The perfect ending to a delightful meal. For two lunch combos, our total was $24. All lunch combinations range about $10 and comes with rice, a salad, and dessert. Check in for the free lime thai tea. As for service... it was excellent. The girl was attentive and nice. I've driven by Coconut Rabbit's strip mall a million times, but I didn't realize this gem existed until our alphabet dinner. Check in on Yelp to get an offer for a free lime Thai iced tea. It was a table favorite, but I didn't want the chance to spill more liquid on someone so I drank the clear stuff. I should note the tables are on the small side and can get crowded with food and drink. To Start: Chicken-jicama potstickers - well presented though mild in flavor. Corn fritters - full corn kernals in a edible bowl. It was a weird contrast of textures. Mashed up deep fried corn in the edible bowl would have been ideal. Veggie rolls - The veggie rolls were nice and crisp. Dip them in the provided sauce and they are even more delicious. My favorite app of the evening was the garlic chicken wings. It's hard for me to resist these fragrant, well executed wings. Yum! I didn't try the other entrées, but I did order the panang short rib curry. By this part of the meal I only had enough room to eat half. A splendid half it was with my optional brown rice. In fact, I accidentally forgot my leftovers at work over the weekend. They tasted just as good warmed up 4 days later! Make sure to make a reservation because they only have about 10 tables. I was really surprised by this place. I so enjoyed. Just can't give them 5 stars because of the pricing vs. Thai town, and that they do not (yet?) serve beer. I did use my yelp check in offer for a "Refreshing pineapple", which was made with pineapple, ginger and lime. Unusual and good. We started with the Coconut Rabbit dumplings, because we saw them coming out to an adjacent table and they looked really interesting. They are a little pricey, but worth it. In fact, they were the most expensive item we ordered on the menu. We next had the Tom Kloeng Gai (which is made with tamarind juice). This was a change from Tom Yum and Tom Kah and more closely resembles Tom Yum. I had never had this type before and enjoyed the tart sweetness. For the main course, we had the Jungle noodles with beef. Not real adventuresome there, but it was good. Service was great and parking was easy. I recommend if you don't feel like trekking to Hollywood for Thai. Nice choice for local. read more

Probably one of the best Thai restaurants around this area. A friend recommended this place and it did not disappoint! I always get Thai tea when ordering Thai food and it's usually too sweet, but not here - it was perfectly sweet. Food was perfectly seasoned, not overly salty and not too oily either. We ordered blue crab fried rice, beef pad see ew, and pumpkin chicken red curry. They were generous on the crab in the fried rice, the beef in the pad see ew was nice and tender (probably one do the best pad see ew I've had in OC), and extra coconut in the curry which I love. It's a little pricier than other Thai places but totes worth it. Definitely will be a regular here. read more

Came here for lunch with my sister on a Wed afternoon. Although the place was scheduled to close 15 min prior to us walking in, the server seated us with any issues and gave us plenty of time to place our Order. We not once ever felt rush, which is a plus. So much variety made it difficult to choose but we ended up ordering the Chicken Phad Thai and lunch special Yellow chicken. By far the best Phad Thai ever (except for Thailand but that doesn't count ) The sauce was perfect and not too spicy. They give big portions of chicken for the noodles and the curry dish. I normally order Panang curry but the yellow curry was perfect and the tiny little potatoes was a plus. Don't forget the Lime Thai tea with your yelp check in. Last night I was feeling a bit under the weather and craved something hot and spicy to clear my sinuses. I had come here about a year ago and had a decent experience so I decided to get takeout shortrib panang curry with rice. I was able to quickly place my order and pay as soon as I walked in. The nice server (owner?) even offered to bring me water while I waited. She told me it would be 15 mins, but I got my order in less than 10. The portion is quite small for paying over $14 for one dish. I remember the last time we ate in, their portions were on the smaller side- so it wasn't just because I got it to go. The curry is very light and soupy with great coconut flavor. I was going to order it spicier but the lady advised to get it medium and she's give me the chili sauce on the side to add if I wanted to dial up the spice. The curry is studded with fresh green beans and carrots, but the star is the shortrib. My order had 3.5 medium sized chunks of melt in your mouth, meaty deliciousness. That paired with the fragrant jasmine rice it comes with was a winning combo. Other than the higher price versus serving size, I had no complaints for the order. I will be back! read more
