This restaurant is tucked inside a large plaza, so parking is super easy. They use an in-person waitlist, which moves fairly quickly. Gỏi Đu Đủ (Papaya Salad, Vietnamese Style): 4.3/5 Their papaya salad is a fun twist on the traditional version. Instead of dried shrimp and fish sauce, they use vinegar, soy sauce, and tamarind. It gives the dish a lighter, sweet-and-sour vibe that's still really refreshing. Cá Kho Tộ (Braised "Fish" in Clay Pot): 4.5/5 Flavor-wise, this was my favorite. The sauce is rich and savory--perfect with rice and steamed veggies. The only downside is that the portion is a bit small for the price, but the taste definitely delivers. It actually reminded me a little of kho quẹt, which I loved. One thing that gave me pause was an odd incident in the restroom--there was a man inside the women's room. Not sure if it was an honest mistake or something else, but it did make me a little more aware of my surroundings. Nothing to do with the restaurant itself, but worth noting for safety.

My aunties love the lau hoa tuoi here, but haven't been here in ages, so I took them! I've never dined here and don't eat vegetarian food, but it was such a pleasant surprise and as delicious as people have mentioned. The place was absolutely packed on a Sunday afternoon, and I feel like there weren't enough servers to go around for this particular day (weekends in general?). In spite of this, the skinny man in black was 100% amazing and SO expedient when we flagged him down since our broth was evaporating quickly. He was super patient dealing w/ the masses. There were two others - one was our main server who was super over it (understandable lol) and a girl who was also doing her best - three total for a full house. The only other tip I have is to keep your hotpot on low heat immediately after it boils. There's a notch on the stove (at the bottom, under where the flames are) where you can move it to the right to adjust the temperature.

Delicious vegetarian/vegan Vietnamese food! It holds its own even compared to a regular Vietnamese restaurant. So many great options to choose from, not enough space in our tummy. Love the warm feel themed decoration that helps you travel along w/ your tastebuds. I read a lot of the Yelp & Google reviews & most of the bad ones were about service, so you know it's legit & we came prepared. Service is probably a hit or miss because they are so busy, but you do still get what you need, & understandably so since the food was very good. A local & reliable eatery. You can barely tell there's no meat in any of these dishes since everything was delicious & full of flavor. We got the bun hue, bun rieu, ban beo, Vietnamese coffee, & banh mi cari. We really enjoyed everything but the ban beo was probably one of the best. Also the bahn mi was so fresh & perfect; crunchy outside, soft warm inside. Dare I say it tasted better than the curry itself. The soup noodles were great balances to each other. And the best part of it all was how cheap everything was. 5/5 bc in this economy??! Definitely will be back again

Mi Vit Tiem was good, but not outstanding, as it was lacking some complexity. It included a lot of toppings of vegetables and mock meat. The restaurant wasn't too busy for midweek lunchtime. Food is served fast. They have a lot of seating making it a great place for groups.

Vegetarian Vietnamese! Enjoy your favorite viet classics with a vegetarian twist! I got the bun riêu! They did good job making a vegetarian version. While you can't match the original dish's tasty seafood broth, they did a decent job with their vegetarian broth. They also gave a filling amount of veggies and tofu as well and I was very satisfied finishing my soup. Wait to be seated was long on a busy Saturday afternoon and service was a bit slow so be wary during peak hours. Give this a shot if you're in the mood for some vegetarian Vietnamese!

My sisters suggested we do vegetarian foods tonight so we met them there for an early dinner. We had: Spring rolls (2 different kinds) Soft pan fried rice noodles Crispy pan fried rice noodles One bun rieu And a combination fried rice Spring rolls: good flavor but the wrapping paper were too tough. Soft pan fried noodles: very tasty. Love the variety of mushrooms. Crispy pan fried noodles: noodles were a bit over fried so somewhat hard. Some of the fried noodles were partially soaked in the gravy and that was okay. Bun rieu: my brother-in-law liked it but wished it was a bit hotter (temperature-wise). Combination fried rice: meh. Disappointing. Service was just okay. Nobody came to check on us once they dropped off our orders on the table. Foods came out quickly.

The food at this restaurant is absolutely fire. I came here on a weekday evening with my family and we had no trouble getting a table. The food came out promptly after being ordered. We had ordered several dishes to share, and the portion sizes were generous. Prices are reasonable given the quality and quantity of food. We had ordered a noodle soup and a rice dish, both of which were delicious. Ambience is relaxing and comforting, and the decorations are tastefully done. Overall, will definitely be back!

Hands down one of my favorite vegan restaurants in OC. This place never disappoints every time I go there. My usual go to is their fish cake, Banh Xeo, and their Banh Hoi with crispy pork. Service is great as always and food comes out really fast.

I finally had the chance to visit this restaurant for the first time during this week for lunch :). Ambiance was calm, peaceful. There were spacious seating and service was friendly and attentive. I really enjoyed the chao phu chuc (vegetarian fish porridge) and the banh xeo (Vietnamese crepe). The dishes were delicious, the banh xeo was crispy, and these came with beautiful fresh herbs which were plentiful. The sauces were not salty and paired with the dishes quite nicely. The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza northeast of Beach Blvd. and W. McFadden Ave.

This place is an institution for vegetarians in OC. It has been here for ages. Services can be hit and a lot of miss. If you come early then it will be better per my observation. I ordered to go most of the time so I can avoid the hassle plus the long wait for the foods. Prices wise, same as other veggies places. Menu is big with variety of dishes from appetizers, soups, salad, main courses, family courses, hot pot, to desserts. Foods are generally good to great here, especially with hot pot but others are good/great too. The decor has been the same for ages but somehow it works well for them...very calm and peacefully plus spacious.

Bồ Đề Tịnh Tâm Chay is a wonderful restaurant that puts a delicious vegetarian twist on a wide variety of Vietnamese dishes. This place single-handedly disproves the common belief that vegetarian food can't be as good as food with meat. I am not a vegetarian, but I love coming here. The restaurant is located in a decently busy plaza, but I've never had trouble finding parking. There are times when it's pretty crowded, but in my experience, I've never had to wait super long to get a table. Everything I've ever gotten here was super yummy, and I can't wait to try more. FOOD: Nem Cuốn Bồ Dề (5/5) - Vietnamese spring rolls with "pork" and fresh vegetables. Comes with a tasty, nutty dipping sauce. If you add the fresh chillis they provide to the sauce, it will give a good kick. Mì Tiềm (5/5) - Vietnamese "duck" noodles that I might like even more than the actual meat version. Dark broth that tastes light, herbal, and healthy. The fake duck meat is pleasant. I love the pickled papaya on the side that comes with this dish! Bún Măng Gỏi (4.5/5) - Vietnamese bamboo noodle soup with a side of "chicken" salad. Delish! The broth was super light and flavorful. They were generous with the bamboo, the noodles were the perfect texture, and the salad was super refreshing. Not sure I can tell the difference between their "duck" and "chicken" though. Added the dressing/sauce to the salad along with the chillis and loved it. Not pictured, but all the hot pots I've tried from here are super delicious as well. In my opinion, the prices are affordable and the portions are pretty big. I often bring home leftovers or share with the table. SERVICE: (4/5) I've been here a few times, and the speed of service can vary with how busy the restaurant happens to be. Everyone is well-meaning and just doing their jobs the best they can, which makes for a pleasant atmosphere. To pay, walk up to the register. TLDR// Love this spot for vegetarian Vietnamese food! I wholeheartedly believe more people would consider vegetarianism if this place was their first introduction to vegetarian food. Will be back to try more of their extensive menu!

    cá kho tộ
    Linus L.

I had never tried vegetarian Vietnamese food before this restaurant and this was a stand-out experience. The clay-pot dish, "cá kho tộ" was very good with white rice, and I enjoyed the papaya salad. The papaya was young and cut fresh. Very unique flavors that I had not tried anywhere else. The decor has an old-world Pacific-island feel and the venue is very spacious and attractive. A must-try!

#77 bun with egg roll and charbroiled bean curd
    Hemesh P.

Came back after a long time I got #77 - the bun with charbroiled bean curd and egg roll. The egg roll was my favorite part I think I remember why I don't come here too often. The protein feels very over processed and chewy. It was ok I ordered takeout and it was ready really quickly.

Out of the park, you guys. Jordan and I were beside ourselves. Licking our fingers and everything. The bánh mìs were appetizer-style cuteness, hai phong style paté and shredded pork in house special sauce. You wouldn't believe the flavors from these little bites. My son couldn't stop! Of course, the kids had what they endearingly call "white noodles" - the phở bắc Đặc biệt. Slurped up every last bite of it. My husband and I tried to steal some bites in, too. Gosh. Too good. We promised ourselves to go back. We never did. But it's definitely on my list. Writing this review now, I'm salivating all over again.
