My mom enjoys restaurant very much. It's usually her go-to when someone ask her where she'd like to eat. If you like Vietnamese vegetarian food, this is the restaurant for you. They have a good selection to choose from and some of the items literally have the texture and flavor like regular food. Today, I ordered an appetizer and we each ordered and entree as we got to enjoy 3 items and didn't finish it. We took the remainder home as that was too much food for 2 ppl. I really enjoyed the Banh uot while my Mom likes their Banh Hoi plus bbq "pork". Both come with lots of veggies and "meats". Flavors are great. This restaurant is tucked inside a large plaza, so parking is super easy. They use an in-person waitlist, which moves fairly quickly. Gỏi Đu Đủ (Papaya Salad, Vietnamese Style): 4.3/5 Their papaya salad is a fun twist on the traditional version. Instead of dried shrimp and fish sauce, they use vinegar, soy sauce, and tamarind. It gives the dish a lighter, sweet-and-sour vibe that's still really refreshing. Cá Kho Tộ (Braised "Fish" in Clay Pot): 4.5/5 Flavor-wise, this was my favorite. The sauce is rich and savory--perfect with rice and steamed veggies. The only downside is that the portion is a bit small for the price, but the taste definitely delivers. It actually reminded me a little of kho quẹt, which I loved. One thing that gave me pause was an odd incident in the restroom--there was a man inside the women's room. My aunties love the lau hoa tuoi here, but haven't been here in ages, so I took them! I've never dined here and don't eat vegetarian food, but it was such a pleasant surprise and as delicious as people have mentioned. The place was absolutely packed on a Sunday afternoon, and I feel like there weren't enough servers to go around for this particular day (weekends in general?). In spite of this, the skinny man in black was 100% amazing and SO expedient when we flagged him down since our broth was evaporating quickly. He was super patient dealing w/ the masses. There were two others - one was our main server who was super over it (understandable lol) and a girl who was also doing her best - three total for a full house. The only other tip I have is to keep your hotpot on low heat immediately after it boils. On my most recent visit, I ordered #77: Bun Bi Dau Hu Ki Nuong. It's a classic Vermicelli bowl with eggroll & shredded tofu. But they also add the charbroiled tofu to give it a meaty taste and texture. This is what makes them stand out compared to other places. The restaurant is located in a decently busy plaza, but I've never had trouble finding parking. There are times when it's pretty crowded, but in my experience, I've never had to wait super long to get a table. Everything I've ever gotten here was super yummy, and I can't wait to try more. FOOD: Nem Cuốn Bồ Dề (5/5) - Vietnamese spring rolls with "pork" and fresh vegetables. Comes with a tasty, nutty dipping sauce. If you add the fresh chillis they provide to the sauce, it will give a good kick. Mì Tiềm (5/5) - Vietnamese "duck" noodles that I might like even more than the actual meat version. Dark broth that tastes light, herbal, and healthy. The fake duck meat is pleasant. I love the pickled papaya on the side that comes with this dish! Bún Măng Gỏi (4.5/5) - Vietnamese bamboo noodle soup with a side of "chicken" salad. Delish! The broth was super light and flavorful. They were generous with the bamboo, the noodles were the perfect texture, and the salad was super refreshing. Not sure I can tell the difference between their "duck" and "chicken" though. Added the dressing/sauce to the salad along with the chillis and loved it. Not pictured, but all the hot pots I've tried from here are super delicious as well. In my opinion, the prices are affordable and the portions are pretty big. I often bring home leftovers or share with the table. Bad custumer service. I visited this restaurant for a meal, and unfortunately my experience was far below expectations. The service was very poor: when I noticed that the meal was missing the side vegetables that are normally included, I asked the staff about it. The restaurant is dimly lit and relatively quiet. The menu is pretty big and it seems like prices haven't changed that much. Wait, why haven't I been to Bồ Đề Tịnh Tâm Chay before? Although I am not vegetarian myself, I LOVE vegetarian food. Especially the vegetarian food at temple. I've been trying to find a spot that offers dishes of the same (or higher) caliber, and I think Bồ Đề Tịnh Tâm Chay checks off all my boxes. First of all, the interior is absolutely wonderful! It encapsulates a relaxing ambiance with the dark wood and hints of Asian influences. My family and I went during lunch, and we were seated immediately. The waiter didn't rush us at all and even entertained our questions about the menu. Their menu is incredibly extensive, and there's options I've never even heard before! It took me a while to decide. I was speechless once the food arrived! Everything tasted amazing! My favorite was the eggplant in basil sauce. It was perfectly seasoned and exactly what I was craving. We also ordered the seared tofu in garlic and it came in a tangsuyuk-like sauce. At first, I was a little worried; it looked incredibly saucy. However, the thick sauce was lighter than I expected. Not too salty either. It wasn't overwhelming yet plenty flavorful. Another hit! We also ordered the hot pot (lẩu) and they brought out a fire-lit pot with noodles, vegetables, and broth galore. It was a somewhat sour soup. Definitely a feast to share! There were so many options on the menu that even my dad, who is a self-proclaimed meat lover, was more than content with his meal. There's a minimum amount to spend in order to use card. They do not accept Apple Pay! Our last visit we had the entire place to ourself. Food was not great that time but my girlfriend is vegetarian and we were in the area and decided to give them another shot. Today surprisingly there was a waitlist?! The manager was playing host which was odd as he seemed to really struggle with speaking and seemed clearly out of his depth, likely the reason for the waitlist. He appeared flustered and as confused as we were trying to understand what appeared to be randomly strung together words. I see many reviews mention he is rude, but I do not think it's intentional, he honestly just seemed to be struggling with comprehending what was going on around him. Not sure putting him in a hosting position was fair to him or the patrons but as manager would assume he elected to do it? I found out he was the manager when asking for the manager to see if the poor guy could possibly be swapped out with someone more capable. The few of us waiting made the best of it playing a game out of trying to decipher what he was trying to say. After a lot of arm shrugs and giggles asking each other what did he just say, he shouted something that sounded like, "goofoo" luckily he was looking at us so we understood it was time to grab our table. Based on our last visit we were not expecting great service or ambiance but were hoping perhaps last time we had just ordered the wrong dishes and ordering something different would change our opinion. Unfortunately this visit was like our last and will be our last. The food was not great, sauces and broths over sweetened, noodles come out as sticky globs of goo, the curry is simply inedible. I will say though the spring rolls were pretty good, although the dipping sauce tasted more like maple syrup than peanut sauce. In retrospect, I think the draw here is not necessarily tasty authentic Vietnamese food but the fact everything is vegetarian. In such a hostile and condescending RUDE way. We explained we've been coming here for over 20 years and this is the first time we ever had an issue--he can just deal with it, eat the cost and take care of it. This place really knows how to make 'fake meat' dishes that sometimes taste even better than the real thing. When I visited on a weekday afternoon, the place was buzzing with Buddhist monks--a sure sign that the food is delicious. My husband and I shared the Vegan Ginger Chicken (#162), the Veggie Fish with Sweet and Sour Sauce (#185), and the House Special Grilled Sour Ham Rolls (#1). Everything was incredibly tasty and filling! We got rice on the side, and by the end of the meal, we were stuffed. My two favorites were the Sour Ham Spring Rolls and the Vegan Ginger Chicken. My wife has been a vegetarian for over 10 years, and we have visited this restaurant many times. The older lady owner has always been very kind, calm, and welcoming, always greeting customers with a warm smile. We also often interacted with the younger woman working there, whom we later learned is the daughter-in-law. Both of them have always been extremely kind and respectful, and we never had any issues with them. Unfortunately, we had a very unpleasant experience today with the owner's son. My wife called the restaurant ahead of time because we were in a time crunch. She politely asked if they could set up a table for three since we were about 10 minutes away and already knew what we wanted to order, just to save time. In the past, one of the women there had helped us do something similar. The man who answered the phone immediately said no in a very rude and irritated tone and insisted that no one there had ever done that before. Despite the uncomfortable phone call, we still went to the restaurant. We got a table and placed our order. Afterward, my wife politely mentioned to the older owner that the person who answered the phone earlier had been rude. At that point, her son came out from the back and said he was the one who answered the phone. Instead of calmly discussing it, he immediately accused my wife of lying and became very aggressive. My wife calmly explained that someone there had helped her before, but that it didn't matter anymore since we were already there. She only wanted to point out that he shouldn't speak so rudely to customers. Unfortunately, he escalated the situation. He began waving his arms and leaning toward my wife over his mother in a way that felt threatening. He loudly said he hates people who lie to him and that this is simply the way he speaks--people can accept it or leave. At one point he grabbed a water bottle from the table in a way that made the situation feel even more tense. His mother actually had to step in and push him away from my wife. As a husband standing there watching this happen, it was extremely upsetting. We came there simply to support their business and enjoy a vegetarian meal, not to be yelled at or accused of lying in front of everyone. What makes this especially disappointing is that this is a Vietnamese vegetarian restaurant filled with Buddha statues and symbols that represent peace, mindfulness, and kindness. Yet the son--who said he now runs the restaurant--displayed behavior that was the complete opposite of those values. We have always respected and supported this restaurant, which makes this experience even sadder. No customer should ever feel threatened or disrespected when they are simply trying to support a business. I've been a vegetarian for 10 years and have visited this restaurant many times. The older lady owner and her daughter-in-law have always been kind, calm, and welcoming, which is why I kept coming back. Unfortunately, today I had a very disturbing experience with the owner's son. I called ahead because I was in a time crunch and politely asked if a table could be set for 3 since we were 10 minutes away and already knew what we wanted to order. Instead of responding politely, he spoke to me in a very rude and irritated tone. When I later mentioned this to the older owner, her son came out aggressively, accused me of lying, raised his voice, and used threatening body language. He leaned toward me, swung his arms, and grabbed a water bottle in a way that made me feel like he might throw it at me. I genuinely felt unsafe, and even his mother had to push him away from me. It was shocking to be treated this way when I came there simply to support their business. I have been craving this place for the longest! If it wasn't so far from me I would ve here regularly! The quality and quality is great! If you're looking for great vegetarian Vietnamese food, this is the place to go! We ordered so much and had leftovers, but I can't complain! Both of us were customer for BDTTC for many years with friends and family every time we came to Orange county. But this time it was so bad for food and services. We ordered wonton noodles and pho. They tasted just water and blank noodles and all our friends said the same BAD FOOD , TASTE LESS. For sure we will not come back. This is one of my favorite vegetarian restaurants in OC. Their restaurant is clean with nice decor. Their menu offers so many items you will surely find something you like. All the food I have ever had here is delicious! I love that every dish has so much flavor. Their use of veggies and fruit is amazing. They have many drinks to choose from as well. The only problem I've ever had is the service. For one it is incredibly slow. I've always just chocked it up to their laid back vibe. But it is slow. And at times non existent.
