OK, what are you looking for when you are looking for someone to do alterations and mending? For me, two things: 1. The person seems to care a great deal about your valuable clothing and is a perfectionist. 2. No sticker shock. Coco's fits the bill completely on both counts. The lady who works there is very nice, really cares, and works hard to get the alterations just right. Also, I like that I can afford to have simple mending done there and it is affordable considering the price of the garment (ie. I had a bunch of designer t-shirts that had the bottom hems unraveling. Even though the shirts were somewhat expensive, I didn't want to spent too much since they are only t-shirts. Well, it was only $6 per shirt to have them mended. Well worth it! I'm so happy to have all those shirts back in my wardrobe and they look perfect!). I went to Coco's despite the one-star review one person gave. I find it hard to believe that the reviewer found the prices high - since they are extremely fair compared to anywhere else I have had alterations done in the South Bay (mostly at dry cleaners where you don't actually get to communicate directly with the person who will be doing the repairs). Coco's alterations saved my husband and I !! I had just picked up the bridesmaid dress a week and a half before a wedding that I was in, and it was a size too big. I started to panic. It was too close to the event date, and I didn't know if it could be fixed in so little time. I found coco's,and she had me try on the dress, which by the way had a lot of detail, and she pinned the areas to take in and length to shorten, and she had it ready three days before the wedding!!! And the job was phenomenal!! The day I picked up my dress, my husband also dropped off a pair of dress pants he just purchased that needed some shortening, and they were ready that Friday. We were both saved and set for the wedding!!! Then I took two pair of pants for work in a really short notice. She said she would get them done for me in time! When I picked them up she asked how were my kids (I took them in once) and she is always very, very nice. My pants again were perfect!! She will always have my business! read more

Well thought I would have a great experience and to my unfortunate luck I did not. I dropped several items off and because I didn't want to be rude as it was close to closing I didn't check them until the next day. The one pair I asked to be hemmed the thread was still attached and I had to tie off and snip on both legs. The jacket I had asked to be taken in further from where she pinned she did not. And 2 pair of pants I asked for the liners to be repaired and she did the hems instead??? Not one item was to my satisfaction which is pretty bad. The worse part was she told me she didn't want to argue which meant she was unwilling to admit to any wrong doing and refunded my money. I would like to think that I haven't completely lost my mind and would remember what I dropped my clothes off to have done and secondly all I wanted was an apology and just repair as was requested. Instead I got a tossing of the money and see ya later... how about never... read more

I've gone to Coco for my own clothes as well as with my clients to have their clothes done, and we all love her. She is quick and has a great eye, often knowing just what needs to be done and pinning it before you have to say anything. We have had tops made into skirts, necklines lowered, jackets cropped, a *reversible* leather jacket perfectly tailored and shortened, a lining added to a sheer tank top, you name it. For the reviewers that are unhappy with speed... well, I know how much care she takes with complex alterations for weddings and hard to alter garments, and I'd rather the work be GOOD & affordable rather than fast & cheap. I really wanted to like this experience. Having recently moved here, I looked to my fellow Yelper's for advice on the best place to go to get a new pair of jeans hemmed. Keep in mind, I had a baby a few months ago and these jeans were my reward for losing the baby weight. So these jeans were kind of a big deal to me. Anyway, I chose Coco's because of the great reviews and the proximity to my house. Unfortunately, my experience was not that great. She lost my jeans! To her credit, she did reimburse me for them, but it just wasn't the same. Thankfully it was just a pair of jeans, and not a wedding dress or something of great importance. I do appreciate her obvious regret and her immediate willingness to reimburse, but I'm just not sure I can give her my business again. read more

This is a great place to get your alterations done. Coco is the best. I love working with her. She is an artisan and does marvellous work.

I purchased a suit online and the pants needed to be taken in a lot. It was a pretty major job involving the waist, and leg seams. I also have them cuffed. Everything was done perfectly, on time, and for only $30. I will definitely be coming back. read more

I love Coco! Every girl can use a great tailor and I would be lost without her! I tend to collect all the clothes that needs to be tailored and drop off 20+ items at a time! Coco is amazing with not just the work, but will give you advice on what she thinks would look good or will be even honest if the item doesn't need any work. She prices very fairly as well. I decided to use Coco's Alterations based on the reviews here and I was not disappointed. I've been there twice now. First time was to have some work pants hemmed. The second time was to stitch up the front pocket on a hooded sweatshirt and to see if she could repair a very worn out cloth toy. The work was done as well as I could have expected. Moreover, the owner has wonderful customer service skills--something that seems to be lacking these days. She's very personable and friendly and even helped me carry some things back to my car as I had my infant daugther with me at the time. The only reaon I didn't give 5 stars was b/c there was one item that wasn't done on the day I was orginally told it would be done. It wasn't a big deal per se, but a phone call to tell me it wasn't yet done would have been appreciated. Definitely plan to go back---oh and the prices seem reasonable. I was looking for a seamstress to alter my wedding dress and visited a few places in the South Bay. As soon as I met Coco the first time I just trusted her and was drawn to her. She is very sweet, down to earth and honest . She would show me how she'd take my dress in and would pin my dress a couple different ways to bustle it. Mind you I did not like any bustle anyone has showed me or that I had seen online until Coco bustled my dress. It just looked right, and the flow was not choppy . I went in again to have her pin my dress this time with my shoes etc and left my dress with her. She is such a pleasure to work with and speak with. Coco saved my wedding dress. My dress had been hacked and seemingly unable to be repaired. Each time I took it to a tailor to get fixed, they would cut it and make the dress worse. After multiple botched alterations, I showed up at Cocos in a panic two days before the wedding. Coco took my dress, even though her schedule was full and devoted her own time to fixing it. After I spent nearly twice as much as I'd hoped to spend on a pre-used/floor sample dress at Encore Bridal (which used to be in Manhattan Beach) the owner referred me to Coco's Alterations for what I figured would be another small fortune in modifications. The dress was about 4 inches too long, shortening being complicated by the lace overlay, and the back need to be converted from a zip-up/button style to a corset style because the dress only fit to halfway up my back. I also wanted cups sewn into the bust to eliminate the need for a bra under my strapless gown. Hearing the average cost of modifications, I fully expected to pay $150 or more than what Coco actually charged. Her work was impeccable, and she also noticed a few small details that also needed to be adjusted to make the gown look even more perfect. My dress was completed with plenty of time to spare before the wedding. I would not hesitate to recommend her to everyone I know! read more
