Coco's is a Sugar Land staple. This is a cafe that serves Taiwan-style Chinese food and has been doing so for almost a decade. I've been going to Coco's for YEARS now because they have really cheap, delicious food. They can be a little slow on service when the cafe gets crowded, so don't go expecting a nice, fancy restaurant (most Chinese places are not "up-scale"). The utensils and water are all self-serve; there is communal sauce that sits on a little stand next to the TV. Food: For dinners, you can call in and reserve a to-go packed dinner; this usually serves a family of 5 and comes with 3 dishes and a full box of rice. These dishes are off-menu items and are things like -- fried fish, spicy tofu, kung pao chicken etc. As for their regular items, I've pretty much eaten everything on their menu. In my opinion, they have some of the best fried rice in Houston. (My family is from Taiwan though, so my Chinese food tastebuds are tailored to like Taiwan-style food). My mom loves the vegetable fried rice and her avacodo smoothie which is nice and chilled (you can taste the avacado!), the mushroom fried noodles exceeded my expectations as did my red bean and green bean smoothie. A great little Taiwanese restaurant tucked in a strip mall, Coco's Cafe offers a variety of Taiwanese snacks, noodles, desserts, and teas. The menu, as well as pictures for every single entree, was posted on both walls. Place your order at the register, pay, and find yourself a seat. When we visited on a weekday lunch, we found 1 cashier, 1 foodrunner, and 1 cook hidden in the kitchen. The 3 of them worked hard to keep up with the sudden wave of customers sweeping in after we had gotten our food. The 3 of us got a few of the less popular items to give them a try. 1. Spring Rolls: There are 5 small rolls per order alongside a small container of sauce. The rolls were thin and satisfyingly crisp. However, it contained very little filling. The sauce was unremarkable. 2. Sizzling Udon: Warm and comforting, the noodles contained a couple of shrimp, some mushrooms, an egg, and lotsa veggies. The noodles were a touch overcooked, but it wasn't offendingly so. The broth wasn't too heavy, which we appreciated. 3. Shrimp Fried Rice: Hot and flavorful, the fried rice was pretty good. It contained almost too much oil, and definitely too much salt, though. However, they were generous with the shrimp, eggs, and veggies. 4. Curry Chicken: The curry chicken with rice had chunks of carrots, potatoes, and chicken. The curry was plain but not bad. Just a meh dish. I could make a netter curry at home. If you're in the mood for a good noodle soup or a rice dish and not looking for fancy surroundings this might be the place for you! This place has been here for ages. I think I might have reviewed this place once before and it had been awhile since I've been here but I decided to give it a try this afternoon and was not disappointed. The Szechwan-Pickled Pork Noodle Soup was really good! The broth tasted really good! So far I have not noticed any spaciness or headache due to too much MSG so I feel as if they may not be using it anymore like they did in the past so that's good! The girl at the counter was very pleasant and the food came out quickly and was priced reasonably! The portion sizes are generous and they also have boba drinks which is a big plus! I've been a huge fan of the Coco's Cafe in Austin, so decided to have lunch here while I'm in the area. The cafe itself looks anything but impressive, but the food makes up for it. If you're looking for a simple satisfying meal, then this is the spot. I've tried their fried chicken breast entree which is my favorite. It comes with a generous serving of stir fried veggies and rice. The chicken bites were disappointing though, mostly breading and not much meat - so definitely go for the fried chicken breast instead. The ground pork bowl was delicious too though. It had tons of flavorful veggies and soy sauce eggs. My one disappointment was their bubble tea. You could taste that it's made with powder and was too watery. I've been going to this family owned place since around when I started being able to eat solid food (about 2 decades ago) and it's been consistently awesome. It's specifically Taiwanese cuisine but they've got some other more mainland dishes thrown in there. The popcorn chicken and pork chop rice plates are classics - would definitely recommend. It's hardly health food, but it tastes healthier than most Chinese options - a lot more like home cooking. The bubble tea isn't my favorite now that there are -so- many options in the area, but back in the day there wasn't that much choice and they were the best thing ever. It's still decent in my book. They do at least have a lot of options, and some relatively unusual ones you won't be seeing at the super popular millennial places and big chains. And realistically I still get a boba every time I come here. The shaved ice though - it's hard to find a place that serves decent Taiwanese shaved ice, but this place does. The food at this place is delicious!!! We ordered the new spicy cool noodles and rice with fried pork chop. The cool noodle is really cold noodle, very refreshing and not too spicy. The seasoning stick to the noodle very well. And it's only $4.75. The rice dish is yummy too. The meat is perfectly cooked, very side veggie, egg, and a good portion of rice. I've been going to Coco's since I was in middle school (very early 2000s). Whenever I came home on break from college or during holidays from out-of-state, I always had to make a stop at Coco's to get the N15 (combination of noodle soup and crispy chicken bites). Even now that I'm back in the area full-time, I still have never changed my order. I love that the noodle soup is always piping hot and delicious and that the crispy chicken is the best I've ever had (even beating popcorn chicken I've had in Taiwan and New York). Pretty decent Taiwanese style milk tea with tapioca. I can't say much about the food but it was packed inside on a weekend afternoon. I don't think I would come here for the food anyways, but it's a simple little spot if you want some decent tapioca. I happened to drop by after I got a haircut at the salon next door. I saw the good reviews it got on its beef noodle soup, but we unfortunately did not work up enough of an appetite by the time we got there. The cafe itself is located in a plaza at Dulles and Highway 6. It is not clearly visible from the street, and the plaza has no signs to show what shops there are, so we had to blindly turn into the plaza and guess it was there. The cafe itself is very small with a couple of tables and had a very bland atmosphere and almost no decor. Since we weren't hungry, we decided to pick up orders of the milk tea, which was slightly cheaper than at other tapioca places. The girl who worked there that day, who definitely looked like she wanted to be somewhere else, whipped them up quickly and turned back to the Korean drama that was playing on a small TV nearby. My boyfriend and I took our first sips of our drinks, walked out, and promptly tossed them in the nearest garbage bin as soon as we were sure the workers couldn't see us. The milk tea was the thickest, sweetest, syrupiest milk tea I had ever had. I wouldn't be surprised if I developed cavities from just the few sips I had. Sorry, but I was not a fan of those drinks. The prices are pretty cheap, and they do sell some bubble tea beverages, although if you are searching for Boba I'd highly recommend making the drive to Sharetea in Chinatown. I think the two best things to order here are the popcorn chicken and dumplings, both of which are a great value. The popcorn chicken is always fresh and juicy, and is a pretty good rendition of the common Taiwanese snack, although it comes without the fried basil typically served alongside. The dumplings are not bad, and are sure to fill you up. We were here for a casual Saturday lunch, since I was in the mood for some shaved ice. It's a Taiwanese restaurant with plenty of options. The menu is on the wall, with all the dishes and desserts in both languages. A young man took our order, though he spoke good Mandarin, I think he's more comfortable when we order in English:) The hubby had a bowl of veggie noodle soup and I had a shaved ice. Though the shaved ice they have is just plain ice with toppings of your choice, not those fancy milky flavored ones, I still gave it a try. I have the small shaved ice with three toppings (boba, red bean, taro) and syrup drizzle. It's not bad, the red bean and taro were cooked just about right and taste so good with the ice, simple yet very refreshing for a hot summer day. Lots of negative reviews for Coco's but you gotta know what to get here. The milk tea and R3 are staples for any first timers here. Been coming here the past three years and get the same thing every time. The R3. Its cubed fried chicken that is juicy, crispy, and lightly seasoned with something I've yet to identify. The other only guaranteed item on this plate besides the half boiled egg on top is the rice topped with seasoned group pork and onions which is awesome in itself. From here there is a choice of sides that they interchange depending on the day and season which consist of steamed brocoli, tofu/peas/carrots/, eggs in a tomato sauce (not the best), beansprouts, bok choy w/ garlic, and other various vegetables. The Milk tea and Thai tea are their best drinks and I highly advise to skip the tapioca as it tends to clump and you are left with more than half of the tapioca you were charged for being thrown away unless you are prepared to eat it after you are done with your drink. While the decor and cleanliness is sketchy the food is fresh and clean. If you are in this part of town I highly recommend stoping by and trying the R3, and even to anyone that has been here and had a bad experience, come back and for 6 bucks have a near perfect meal, no soy sauce included. read more

My family and I have been customers since my childhood and this place has yet to disappoint. Everytime we come here, we order N6 (Shalihon Pork Noodle Soup), 15 steamed dumplings, and their crispy chicken bites and we've never once changed what we ordered (except maybe on occasion). I'm familiar with Coco's Cafe in Austin, and we had a family friend who really likes Coco's Cafe's (Sugar Land location) fried rice. And since, I'm a fried-rice-kind-of-girl, we had to stop by. We ordered the shrimp fried rice to go. I really appreciate how they put the rice in aluminum foil BEFORE they put it into the styrofoam to-go box - yeah, I pay attention to that small detail, too, cause I'm one of those people who believe in the science behind the release of unhealthy chemicals when heat touches plastic/styrofoam! Anyways, back to the food part of the review. Man, the aroma of that shrimp fried rice had me drooling when I opened up the container in the car. Did I *cough* sneak *cough* a bite in the car, you ask? Uhhhh, let's just say my hand was out of control.... Anyway, the flavor was pretty good. It wasn't super oily, and there was a fair amount of shrimp with peas, carrots, and egg, as well. While we were waiting for the to-go order, we shared a taro tapioca smoothie. We thought it'd be super refreshing on this sweltering August day. My first couple sips were delightful - I really really like how they have the clear tapioca instead of the black boba balls that I'm usually used to. It was a nice surprise. However, a few sips afterward, my mom thought it tasted a little sour, and sure enough, I realized that, too. We brought it back to the young lady at the counter, and she gave us back our money for the drink, apologizing very sincerely. We've been going to this cafe for years but this last experience was by far the dirtiest experience I've had. 2 young men takes and serves the food. The usual 2 guys were courteous and polite. Our last visit was, Tues nite, 09jan. There were 4 guys in the house. One of them tall, skinny with overgrown crew cut hairstyle. I'm sure you will know which one you are when you read this review. " You Have Been Coughing The Moment We Walked Into This Place. You didn't even bother to cover your cough. You just turn your head sideways and cough freely into the air as if this place has a good ventilation. I was very thankful that it wasn't you who handled our food." We stayed for about an hour and listened to you talk and cough. I was very close to asking you if you were sick and to cover your cough but my husband stopped me. This is a restaurant. It's the ground pork with a thousand year old egg and pickled veggies over rice. Did I say how cheap it is? It was only $4.25 and was enough food to fill me up. I love the noodle soups and snacks. A whole bucket of their fried chicken is only $3 and it could feed a group of friends (as a snack). Compare this to the same orders are the bellaire/china town tapioca houses, and you get about 4x as much at Coco's. I'm surprised that the flavorful beef noodle soup here is comparable to the "original" SanDong Snacks' (when they USED to be good) so this place is a good cafe. Hey guys, If you are into some traditional Taiwanese style fast food then check out this place. I personally like the Pork or Fish Rice plate. Prices are good. Togo portions seem to be larger than dine ins so keep that in mind if you want to get it to go! You might get more food ! :) Pearl teas are good too and they have one of those frequent card programs where one gets a free tea after 4 or 5 tea purchases. Food isn't expensive and it's prepared pretty fast. ( 3 - 7minutes tops) texas heat is so hot this summer. That's why I also ordered a fresh fruit strawberry smoothie with tapioca. Though the variety of drinks is vast which is good. But one thing to frown on is customer service. The Customer service is horrible and poor. Ate @ Cocoas in 5 cities last nite, & have been going there many yrs. My friend ordered fried chicken, skin was not golden @ all . A very dark color, so it didn't look appetizing @ all. I had the parmigiana chicken, came with a small salad on the plate, also mashed potatoes with a little white gravy. The potatoes were great, had to use white gravy for chicken as it was very thin meat, & dry. Sad to say I ordered a piece of pumpkin harvest pie, which I was told is a lite chiffon on top of the pumpkin pie. My friend & I shared it, it was sooooo bad , took 2 bites & that was it. Though I've had the food here plenty of times, I've never sat in and dine (mostly to go orders). I probably don't dine in because of the funky smell... but at least the food isn't funky!
