It was very filling and delicious, I could barely finish it. I also tried their noodle dish and that was also great and very flavorful. The chicken was succulent and tender. The broth was also delicious. I think I prefer the fried chicken but I do highly recommend trying both. I think service could be a bit better, some of the waiters seemed to have an attitude, not sure if they were overwhelmed by the amount of people but overall the food is great.

Pretty simple menu of their specialties, and some beverages. For the chicken rice, you can get classic, crispy or combo (half and half). I got the combo chicken rice. Portion was okay, although I feel like you get a slightly more chicken if you just order classic or crispy. The classic chicken tastes authentic, has the smooth slippery skin, but does need the dipping sauce or some of the ginger scallion oil for taste. The crispy chicken is okay, nothing that special about it. The rice was a little less flavorful than expected. The set also came with pickled vegetables, a salad, and some soup. Was served in reasonable time. The combo plate was $21. For Seattle area it's not expensive, but food in the area is just expensive in general. Maybe Hainanese chicken rice isn't my favorite thing, but it was just okay for me.

Unfortunately, despite the name, it did not bring me joy as the food was lackluster. Don't get me wrong, the food wasn't terrible or inedible. I just expected more from Joy Box with its extensive menu of different Asian entrees. I ordered the beef with broccoli dish, which didn't take long to get and the staff even brought out our food to us outside. But the beef with broccoli was unlike something I've had before as the flavor was totally different than a traditional beef with broccoli dish. There was no dark sauce, but instead, the beef had some batter on it, so it tasted fried. It was different. Not terrible, but it wasn't something I'd order again. Although the food wasn't all that great, the service was top-notch. The staff were incredibly helpful, ensuring that we had everything we needed. When I went inside to get more water from the filter, they handed me two bottles of water for us to take with us home. How sweet! What a great team here - and that's what brought me joy at Joy Box.

They need to make some updates on decore and seating, but frankly I'd sit on the ground for this tasty food and pricing. 10/10 every time.

However there is such thing as excessive service. The front of house staff were on top of changing our grates filling our waters and clearing the table so well it felt like a hornets nest the way they were zipping by and moving around the room. Now onto the real brass tacks. The food. It is so far removed from Japanese Quality I had a hard time understanding what we were eating half the time. Usually the cuts of meat are beautifully presented but these cuts were big and small chunks of random pieces. Lots of pieces still had silver skin and some were only fat no meat. Also the Ponzu, Sweet Soy, and Spicy sauce all tasted the same. Don't know what that's all about but sure. The spicy tuna made my spouse and our friend nauseous so didn't end up eating the rest of that. I'd love to come back and give them another chance, but it's not likely. Thanks for dinner!

The fact that these were also coated in oil was pretty nice. On the inside, I thought the prawns were cooked well - they remained pretty soft and didn't appear overcooked I did feel like the spice was pretty much missing, though. I ordered 4/5 stars, but it tasted more like 1/5 stars as there was a pretty significant lack of spice that took away from a lot of the flavor potential. Speaking of the missing flavor, there should've been a lot more sauce added to this dish - either poured on top of the prawns or the prawns come sitting in it. The benefit of this is that it you can mix everything with the rice - and this sauce coats the rice to make it taste good. The way it's currently presented, the prawns are too large to really eat with the rice, and mixing the two will just result in eating the meat and taking another bite of plain rice because there isn't enough sauce to coat the rice. This dish just ended up being eating the prawns by themselves - the rice wasn't super useful As a result, after finishing I really wasn't that full For the price (around 20 ish) there are a good amount of prawns, but I wouldn't really say you're getting a good deal here
