In defiance of my previous review, I've actually visited Xiao Chi Jie twice more, only going for my favorite dish, Sheng Jian Bao. The store is a little different now that Rooster & Rice has taken over some of the kitchen. In the ordering area, the left two kiosks are solely for Rooster & Rice, while the right three kiosks are for Xiao Chi Jie and Bento Bliss. The menu is drastically shortened, with all the Mila products and the Jianbing being removed. Honestly not a bad removal given how mediocre I thought they were. And surprisingly, pricing ($12.99) for the 5pc Sheng Jian Bao hasn't increased in the almost 2 years since my first visit. Their method of cook is traditional, bunching a large number of bao together with oil and water in an oversized and specialized pan just for this dish (with the required cover for steaming, of course). The quality remains the exact same as my first visit - good amount of fatty interior rendered aspic, strong umami and aromatic flavoring on the pork meatball filling, and a nice thin doughy skin. It's a very solid SJB, and probably the best that can be found in the Seattle metro. read more

Downhill. We used to enjoy going to this spot for a quick meal but it is definitely is not the same. Came here last week and they were closing earlier for July 4th. Understandable but came the following week and more than half the items were unavailable. The food tastes the same but was barely warm whereas before it was hot and steaming. At the time we came, they did not have hot sauce and they did not provide sauce for the dumplings until we requested it. Service was okay. I saw this XLB spot on Yelp and came by but didn't realize they sell Mila dumplings primarily. This shop is located in a food court but after trying Mila at home I didn't really want the dumplings from a snack shop and ended up getting the Jian Bing. Ordering is easy and quick from a kiosk and the Jian Bing was really in 5 min. I got the original without any meat and while the youtiao and crispy layers were yummy and fresh, I wish the spicy sauce was more spread out. Mila = Xiao Chi Jie This place is located in a food court and that makes it a very easy dining experience. You'll need to order from a kiosk and you'll get a text message when your food is ready. Everything is packed in take out containers. This place doesn't look much but man oh man! Their sheng jian baos are outta this world! I've never had anything like it and am still dreaming about it's texture, consistency and it's delicious taste! The juiciness is what sold me. Definitely the best sheng jian baos ever! Don't be like me and bite into the dough and ended up squirting majority of the soup juices out and ended creating a giant mess on the table. Thank god the juices didn't end up on my clothes. Xiao Chi Jie's highlight is suppose to their xiao long baos but I find that the skin of the dumpling isn't as thin as I like it to be. Also, I don't think their soup dumpling is as juicy as I want it to be. This is completely my honest opinion. They also sell their frozen soup dumplings at Costco with the brand Mila. I also tried their jian bing (chinese crepe). It's good as long as you it eat fresh, before it gets soggy. Their dan dan noodle's flavoring is pretty good. This is something worth ordering. Even though I often will order my XCJ (Mila) dumplings to make at home, I still love visiting XCJ tofor dine in or take out. For this visit, I ordered the Pho Beef XLB, which I've been wanting to try ever since Mila first offered it as a special order item. So when I saw I could order Pho XLB from the XCJ menu, I couldn't wait to drive there and order some. My first thought was the soup flavor was delicious - all the right spices exactly like a good Pho. The beef tasted great as well. My only thought was in my dumplings the meat was a little bit broken up -not as together as the pork filling in their standard pork XLB & I think I would have liked the filling better if it the meat was together more like a Pho meat ball. I stopped by here for lunch yesterday afternoon as I've been meaning to try Xiao Chi Jie for a long LONG while now. They're known for selling Chinese street foods, and they also sold one of my favourite dishes, the Jianbing! There isn't much service to go through since it's all through a screen where you select the items yourself. It was simple though, and food came out surprisingly quick after. I ordered two items: the Jianbing and their pan fried soup dumplings. For the Jianbing I will have to be honest, it was very bland compared to other ones I've had before. I admit I didn't add any meats or other toppings as I wanted to have the original taste, but there wasn't much taste to begin with. I've had traditional jianbings in other places and they had much more flavour than this one. If I try XCJ's Jianbing again I'd have to add more to see if it's better. Their Pan Fried Soup Dumplings was pretty good though. I love soup dumplings, and got a huge surprise (I got soup all over my shirt) by the amount of soup that was juicing inside the dumpling. Regardless the soup was tasty and so was the pork inside! Some of these other places that sell soup dumplings never put enough soup inside, but XCJ was on top of it for this item. We came here for a quick bite, but it took a surprisingly long time for the food to come out. Since this isn't an actual restaurant (you submit your order at the kiosk and wait to receive it at the counter), I would have expected it to come out faster. We ordered the jian bing with spam, shen jian bao with pork, and xiao long bao with pork (not pictured). The shen jian bao was super juicy, like it exploded everywhere when we took a bite xD and I liked it almost as much as my mom's! The xiao long bao was not the best, but I totally get that because they're frozen and sell them frozen by the bag. I regret getting them -- definitely better to splurge at a real restaurant that makes them fresh. The jian bing was surprisingly good. Spam is probably not the right choice of meat here but I was REALLY craving it! It's crunchy, chewy, and very juicy too! One comment is that the cucumber side is NOT worth it. There's some street parking and they also have a parking garage (I haven't parked in the garage so I'm not sure how much it costs or if they validate?). Sheng Jian bao ($14.48): juicy, juicy, juicyyyyy. You gotta develop some kind of procedure to eat these without squirting yourself or your neighbors with hot soup. My steps include biting the top off to let the steam escape, sipping some soup, halving the meat inside to let the steam out of that, pour some chili oil and vinegar in the middle, then trying your best to take a bite without messing up the whole thing. I've been here a few times before and only get the Sheng Jian Bao now because it's too good to pass up on. The service is generally pretty quick, and it's very casual dining, which I think is perfect to get these delicious dumplings and devour them. The dumplings are a little pricey, but there are five of them and they're bigger than xiao long baos. Be careful when you take your first bite because there is hot soup inside each of the dumplings. It's possible to actually spray yourself with the hot soup if you're not careful (and also very possible if you are careful). Xiao Chi Jie is in a pretty small food court on the outskirts of downtown Bellevue. It was pretty empty when I went on a Saturday afternoon. We ordered their soup dumplings, their pan fried baos, and Dan Dan noodles. Their soup dumplings were pretty good, pretty sure they just reheat the frozen mila dumplings, but delicious all the same. Weird thing is they only provide vinegar and chili oil, no soy sauce. The pan fried baos were okay, the dough was dense but thin (I prefer soft and fluffy). The soup and filling were good and flavorful though. Be careful when eating these! The soup will shoot out everywhere lol. Dan Dan noodles were okay as well. Inside the food court is XCJ and a poke place - there's lot of seating as there's only two restaurants. You order from XCJ on their two iPads and the dishes are made right after so it can be a while. Sheng jian bao (pan fried pork dumplings): the bao's are crunchy on the outside and full of soup on the inside. I don't think I've ever had so much soup inside a bao. The soup was meaty and delicious which was nice. The only downside was the the pork inside was rubbery so there was a weird texture when eating the bao. Zhajiang noodle (sweet and savory noodles): The noodles were of good quality but the dish as a whole was way too sweet. It was off putting and I couldn't finish it. Decided to try this place after seeing so many ads for their frozen XLB. It's a little shop by some apartments, with a food court vibe. You order via iPad, and they'll call your number when the food is ready. There are a handful of tables but I mostly saw people taking out. The XLB have a good amount of soup and filling. The dough is pretty thin too; I would say thinner than Dough Zone but not quite as thin as Din Tai Fung. The jian bing was good, loved the crunch, but there was a bit too much mayonnaise for me. Dan dan mian was tasty as well, nice and numbing. The star here though, is the sheng jian bao. It had so much soup bursting out with the first bite. The bao was not too thick and perfectly pan fried. This is the must have item if you come here, and the only thing that would have me coming back. Everything else is ok, but expensive for what it is, or you're able to find better versions of it elsewhere. I'm so glad I found a place that has Sheng jian bao!! The vibe is definitely more casual and suited well for take out, but we did sit at one of the small tables here. We got an order of the Sheng jian bao and a jiangbing with Chinese sausage. The food was delicious, especially the Sheng jian bao!!! They were very hot and filled with a ton of soup. The jianbing was tasty too, it had good flavors and I liked the combination of Chinese sausage with the Chinese donut. Xiao Chi Jie, abbreviated XCJ, is now known as Mila if you were to order online for some of their famous frozen dumplings. Fortunately, they did not change the restaurant name as I would not have been able to find this place easily in my bookmarks, as I have been wanting to try this place for quite a while. I decided to splurge a bit as I was dining solo, so I ordered about 2 people's worth of food. I got the pork XLB 12 pieces, Sheng Jian Bao 2 pieces, and the Chinese sausage jianbing. The XLB is solid and one of the better ones I have tried. A slight miss though is that they put the XLB a bit too close to one another so it is hard to pick them up without bursting the soup out. The sheng jian bao is very good - something that I would order again, even better than their famous XLB. It is pan fried and there is a generous amount of soup inside, so definitely be careful when you eat it! The jianbing is alright - I like the concept but I am not too big of a fan that they added some spicy chili sauce and a piece of lettuce that did not necessarily fit in with the other ingredients like pork floss. This place is a no frills, fast food place in a little food court with the poke place. There is minimal interaction with the staff as you order on two iPads. The menu is simple and straightforward. They clearly have a partnership with Mila (the Xiao long bao company all over social media and sponsored by Simu Liu) which is great in the sense where you can take home packages of the frozen dumplings easily without having to ship them. Otherwise, the highlight is the sheng jian bao. Slightly on the doughier side, they're still delicious and hit the spot for "fast food" in the area. However, I was disappointed by the food especially after a 15 min wait that is typical. The regular XLB come 12/order and pork, pork/shrimp and chicken. The p/s XLB were just warm after all the waiting. It wasn't soupy and lacked flavor. After adding hot chili oil and soy, it was just okay. For $12, it's like frozen dumplings from the market. I found Xiao Chi Jie to be a bit expensive for a frequent meal, but it's tasty for what it is. I love a crispy pan fried bao (sheng jian bao) with the juicy filling as what you'll expect in a XLB but slightly more substantial. The broth is SO hot, that I suggest being more cautious when you first bite into the corner to release some of the juices out first. I walked by one of the tables, and I almost got splashed from a guy who bit into the bao so abruptly that the bao simply exploded. Each sheng jian bao combo ($15 for 6pc) order comes with a side and we chose the pickled vegetables. That's $2.50 per piece and quite expensive imo. Came here hoping to get an authentic Chinese food experience that would remind me of my time living in Shanghai, but was mostly disappointed. The Xiao Long Bao was served cold, tasted bland, with a kinda congealed soup and meat inside. Same with the noodles and the Jian Bing, just seemed like it had been microwaved and served, maybe the food was less fresh because we came on a Sunday? It also seems weird that they can't be bothered to serve a single item on a plate, even for dine in, so you end up wasting MASSIVE amounts of plastic and cardboard containers for a meal that takes 10 minutes to eat. Not a fan of this wasteful business practice! The only really good item was the Sheng Jian hot fried dumplings, plenty of flavorful soup inside and decent mix of crunchy/soft texture on the outside. But for the price you're paying for everything, coupled with the sterile, cold, cafeteria-style interior seating area, it made for a very average dining experience, so I likely won't be back anytime soon. My friend and I each ordered the "5 Bao + Side" which included five pieces of Sheng Jian Bao and a vegetable side dish (cucumbers or cabbage) for $13. We also got one order of Dan Dan Noodles ($11). Simply walk up to the kiosk to order and get a number. When your food is ready, your number will appear on the overhead screen and the staff will place your containers on the counter. It's up to you to bag it and grab utensils. While the process of ordering and getting your food may be efficient, it's definitely missing any sort of personable customer service. Maybe it's just my preference, but even a simple "hello", smile or acknowledgement from the staff would have made a difference. The SHENG JIAN BAO were unique and delicious! The wrapper was a little thicker and chewier than a typical soup dumpling with a fried golden exterior. it housed a juicy pork meatball and piping hot soup which literally came pouring out. The soup was light and flavorful and the meat was seasoned well without being too salty. I would order again for sure! The side of cucumber was a tasty pairing... crunchy, slightly tangy and heavily marinated with garlic. It was super simple, but so good! The serving size was tiny though and not large enough to justify it being considered a side item. I wasn't a fan of the DAN DAN NOODLES and my friend didn't care for them either.
