Upon passing this place, my wife and I were intrigued. Friendly atmosphere, simple menu, we were interested but kept walking. We decided after walking around downtown La Jolla, that this place had he most ambiance appeal and it also had the food we were craving- fish n' chips. So we get there at 1:30 on a Friday, and were sat immediately. Our service was steady but not overwhelming, and we received our spritzer and sangria almost immediately. They were absolutely phenomenal and refreshing. The food was absolutely worth it. The fish n chips were served with malt vinegar, tartar sauce, a sweet n sour sauce, French fries and coleslaw. My wife got the mahi mahi tacos and they came with beans. Both dishes looked beautiful and tasted the same. The atmosphere might be the unspoken hero. Birds were chirping all along the plants, you can see the ocean, and the place is cultivated with purpose. I would recommend this to anyone. Delicious meal with an amazing view! You can see the water from either your indoor or outdoor seating! Another benefit is that the outdoor seating is pet friendly, so your best friend can have your meal with you! I had the chicken sandwich which was amazing in itself! My only problem with the visit was that the server took ten minutes to even ask my for my drink order while everyone else was constantly getting drinks. I wasn't even able to get a water. The restaurant has a great view that overlooks La Jolla from it's second story deck and offers a vibrant environment to enjoy your meal and time. Highly recommend trying this place. Environment: Cody's is a popular brunch place partially for its convenient location right next to the La Jolla Cove. It's located on a hill right in downtown La Jolla and is a walkable distance from the popular tourist attraction locations. There are both indoor and outdoor seats that provide a decent amount of seats, but there is typically a wait on weekends. The tables are decorated with small succulents and create an "instagrammable" or "aesthetic" environment. With lots of natural lighting, this is a great spot if you're looking to snag brunch photos. Service: The service was as expected - no particular pros or cons, at least in regards to the service provided directly to us. However, we did notice that the lady with a young child sitting at the table next to us requested to have the outdoor parasols/umbrellas adjusted to provide more shade for her son, which the workers were happy to do and prompt about. Food: We ordered the ceviche, french toast, and chicken biscuit sandy. The french toast is something that I order consistently when I come to Cody's for brunch. Aside from it being very pretty in presentation, it also comes with a marscapone honey butter, which is ultimately what makes this french toast what it is. Other than that, it is admittedly quite an average thick-slice french toast. The ceviche came served with some toasty chips and was plated on a nice wooden board. I really enjoyed this ceviche - it had the zesty sharpness that I would expect from ceviche while not being overpowering. The chicken biscuit sandy was an interesting adventure. The main parts of the dish were fried chicken and biscuits, topped with gravy with a garnish of arugula. The fried chicken and gravy were quite great - the chicken was tender and crispy and gravy not too salty. However, I was not the biggest fan of the biscuits. There were two big chunks of biscuits that came with the dish and they were relatively dry. My friend and I who were sharing the dish agreed that without the gravy, the biscuits would have been very difficult to finish, as they would have dried up our mouths and throat. Price: Be prepared to pay just a little more ($2~3) than your average brunch spot. Our entire bill for the three plates came out to be about $50. Overall, I don't know if I would say it's worth the price paid, but for a cute brunch place to take visiting family or friends, I would say it's convenient and a fail-safe spot. read more

Really cute restaurant right by La Jolla Cave. You can see the beautiful beach and sparkling water from the outside dining area. Aside from the amazing view, this place operates like a surf shack. The seating is casual (we used stools at our table) and the waiters give off a Cali surfer vibe. The food is also really delicious. Highly recommend the french toast because it's absolutely stunning and it tastes like a slice of heaven. I ordered the fish and chips and it was good but not mouthwateringly good. This is honestly the worst place to have breakfast in La Jolla. My friend and I stopped by here to get breakfast after our morning hike and we were very unhappy. The place is extremely small and tight inside, which led to feeling very uncomfortable. When our waiter took our order, we informed him that we were splitting our food and he informed us there was a $5 split fee. No biggie. The omelette we ordered was ham and cheese and it reminded me of elementary school cafeteria food. The eggs were overcooked, there was almost no filling and it was just plain bland. The grits I ordered on the side tasted like wallpaper glue. No flavor, texture was off and no seasoning. The potatoes my friend ordered were very mushy and completely burnt. I love this little gem of a restaurant. I've been here a number of times over the past few years, and I've always had great food and service at Cody's. I usually get the Awesome French Toast, which in my opinion truly lives up to its name. The mascarpone honey butter and candied walnuts make a yummy dish even more decadent. I've also had the blueberry pancakes and the chicken sandwich, and both of those were really good too. Food is beautifully presented without being too gourmet. I never have to ask for anything at Cody's; the servers bring me water when I first sit down, and they stop by often to ask if I'd like my coffee topped off. All the employees I have met have been real friendly and seem like they enjoy working there. Several of the tables on the patio have a gorgeous view of the coast, but the inside is charming also. One of the nice hostesses treats me like a regular, though I don't get over there nearly as often as I'd like. I only wish I lived closer, and had more free mornings. read more
