We came here while visiting with family in the area for dinner on a weekend. The restaurant is pretty sizable having both indoor and patio seating while also being able to accommodate larger groups. Tables are close together though - it was hard to navigate with a stroller. Because the patio was open, it was very toasty inside the restaurant! They did have fans but they didn't help much. The day that we went they also had live music playing as well. We were able to be seated within about 10 minutes of arriving however it did take a while for the server to greet us and then probably another 10 minutes to get our drinks. However food came out very quickly and everything was correct! The portions are extremely large for the price of the meal. Food was decent but very basic. The menu selection itself was very large so there is quite literally something for everyone! Overall we enjoyed our time here with family but unsure if we'd come back. read more

The management and the customer service is absolutely lacking here. We came here for lunch, and also to partake in the Bogo happy hour. When our beer arrived, they served us both beers at once. Keep in mind it was a warm day. Who wants two beers at once? When we voiced our displeasure, I have never been here, and I've had to take both of my beers at the same time. No one likes to drink warm beer! The server brought us a bucket, where most people put their peanut shells, and said to put our beer inside the bucket and tried to put ice around the pint glass. Are you serious?? as she is putting ice around the pint glass, she also dumped a bunch in our beer. We were drinking craft beer. Completely absurd. We got up and left and on the way out we saw our server complaining to her manager about us. We stopped and said she's complaining about us, the server responded "I would get fired if I served you one beer at a time. What in the world is happening at this place? Their motto should be "the customer is always wrong". We went across the street to the Chophouse and were treated with respect and dignity. We will not be back. Horrible way to treat customers. The atmosphere at Cody's is relaxed and inviting. There are license plates from all over the place on the walls and old signs and decor. The servers, John and Rebecca (Rebecca was new and training), were great and very attentive. We enjoyed the live music and had a great, relaxing dinner. My only downside is the lack of Gluten Free options. I did get my usual "safe" meal, which is delicious, but it would be nice to see a few more options. I give Cody's one star - only because they are in a convenient location. Had lunch there today. My friend and I asked to split a 2 for 1 draft beer. The waiter brought us 4 after we waited about 15 minutes. The sandwich was alright, but was $15.98 - not worth it. When we got the check, I was shocked to see that a 2 for 1 beer is $8.50. Total for lunch for one person, fair food, 2-4-1 beer and 15% tip (lousy service) = $32.85. I live in The Villages, but will NEVER go back there again! read more

My husband ordered the steak and really enjoyed it. It was a T-Bone cooked to medium. It was delicious (I tried a few bites) and the server recommended it. While we were waiting for our order, a full rack of ribs went by and they smelled amazing. I think I must get that on our next visit. We were so disappointed with our experience at Cody's. Our server "Justice" impressed us early on with her greeting and ability to write her name upside down on the paper tablecloth. But her attention as our waitress went down hill from there. Forgetting to refill drinks, forgetting items from our order, blaming the kitchen, shouting over a neighboring table to ask why we were raising our hand to wave her over. She needs some serious feedback on her customer service skills. The food was less than satisfactory. The bottomless salad got us one serving. No one ever offered to fill it again. The dressing was watered down. The bbq sauce tasted bad; either that or the ribs were bad. Something tasted like plastic. The sweet potato was smaller than a tennis ball. I'll give them one plus: the coconut shrimp was tasty. As visitors from Texas, we expected better hospitality and better quality food. The waitress didn't care enough to check in but once and when I asked what was the bucket on the table was for, she said "peanuts" yet there were none. Also, other tables had bread baskets but we weren't not offered. The crab cakes had little flavor. I will say the food was hot and the food looked appetizing. My first time here....let me start by saying that from 11am-7pm drinks are 2 for 1. The food was very good. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We took so much food with us. A 10ounce prime rib, steaks bites and calamari. You get a big house salad, rolls as butter. We got to dinner around 5:30 and were seated right away. One hour later the place was packed. Visited Cody's recently and unfortunately had the worst service we've experienced there to date. We were seated and waited about 15 minutes before our waitress, Aubrey, finally came over. After taking our order, she brought two waters, then another waitress brought peanuts. After that, another 20 minutes went by with no updates. We honestly thought our main meals were going to arrive before our salads did. Our steaks finally came out around the 50-minute mark. Once the food was delivered, Aubrey never came back to check on us, refill drinks or water, or even ask if the steaks were cooked correctly. Arrived on a Wednesday at 1:30 pm. Friendly greeting as we walked in. Petrolia themed decor with license plates adorning the walls. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Promptly seated in a booth and server was quick to take our order. I ordered the seafood special, a crab cake, 4 scallops and four shrimp on a skewer. I chose broccoli as my side and it was presented on a bed of yellow rice. Bread and salad were included. Good value for $20.00. My only complaint was that the scallops were overcooked. ABYSMAL. First and 1000% LAST visit! We were excited because of the vibe and menu. Holy turd rolled in glitter, Batman! Here we go: SERVICE: The server took forever to come to our table. We told her it was our first visit. She said they they had just cut everyone, so it was a bad time to come! Uhhhh...great start. Didn't refill our water a single time. No asking if we wanted more of the "bottomless" salad. Rolling her eyes at every table. Okayyy.... FOOD: Cody's Original Roadhouse Salad took over a half hour to show up with rolls after ordering. Since we wanted different dressings, we each got a tiny bowl, not the fun silver bowls others got. Their "House Creamy Garlic Ranch Dressing" was Ken's ranch! Any ranch fan knows that! To back up that up, we can turn to the balsamic which was also, clearly, Ken's. BUTTER: I usually love fancy butters, but the cinnamon butter seemed like a weird nutty maple concoction that just wasn't right. It tasted like something I would have gotten from a pancake place in 1987. Yeast rolls were good. The wife sent back both of her 2-for-one margaritas. The fruit juice in the dirty-tasting water seemed bad. Pork sandwich: It was huge, but the pork was very iffy-tasted like horsemeat, so stopped after a few bites. Homemade potato chips would have been fun if they weren't cooked in old oil. Chicken over rice: Chicken was good, but for just under $16, it was so freaking thin & tiny! The yellow rice was ultra-meh. Mashed potatoes. DISGUSTING. I'm far from picky...instant mashed potatoes, gourmet mashed potatoes, just not loaded. These tasted like FISH. WHAT!? HOW does that even happen. Manager tasted it and said that's how it always is. Well, there ya go! Cody's fishy mashed potatoes are a thing. Skip this pig in a poke! Fun place to go in the Villages. They do their best to accommodate celiacs; recommend sticking with the grilled salmon and loaded baked potato. Only salad dressing that is GF is their house ranch. For the past three years, Cody's has been our go-to restaurant whenever we're at Brownwood Town Square. The food has consistently been good, the atmosphere is enjoyable, and the staff has generally been friendly. Unfortunately, something seems to have changed over our last three visits, which occurred over the span of a few months. Keep in mind that we are very low maintenance customers. On one visit, we were seated but our server never came to take our order. We were about ready to leave when a server from another section noticed that we hadn't been helped. To his credit, even though we weren't in his section, he stepped in and took our order. On another visit, it took an unusually long time for our order to be taken, and then an even longer time for the food to arrive. During our most recent visit, our waitress disappeared after bringing our meals. She never returned to check on us, refill our drinks, or bring the check. I eventually had to locate her myself--once to request drink refills and again when we were ready to pay. These visits occurred at different times of the day and on different days of the week, and the restaurant did not appear to be especially busy during any of them. Because the problems have been consistent across multiple visits, they don't seem to be isolated incidents. It's disappointing because I've always enjoyed Cody's and have recommended it to others. However, based on our recent experiences, it has gone from being my "go-to" restaurant in Brownwood to one that I no longer choose to visit. I genuinely hope the restaurant can get things back on track. The food and atmosphere are still enjoyable, but the level of service we've experienced recently has made it difficult for us to return in its current state. read more

Terrible experience! From the waitress to the food. There was 4 of us, everyone's food order was wrong! None of the temps on the food was correct. I ordered a ribeye they sent out a NY strip (also wrong temp) Manger came sent food back on the steaks (other food was a burger & she asked for no charge on that because she wasn't going to eat after that which they did honor) 2nd round of steaks came & the temps were still wrong. We asked for the food to go at this point we were pretty upset. It was also my birthday the table next to us got a beautiful piece of chocolate cake, my daughters asked our waitress if they would sing to me & the brought me out a piece of cake that looked like someone's homemade cake for their birthday. You order a beer during happy hour and they literally bring you two beers. Never seen that before, but my table got a chuckle out of it. I understand why some reviewers didn't like what they ordered. Looking at photos, some of that input is fair. However, if you play it safe and order something fried you can't go wrong (there are plenty of options). This buffalo chicken sandwich was not only well made and well sauced, but it was the size of my head. Absolutely delicious and plenty for leftovers. I admit, the single onion was silly looking. Between running out of Prime Rib and not being told until we were ready to order, watery and melted cocktails, warm white wine, no smiles from staff..except for one server (Haley), served dinner on dirty chipped plates, bugs, a manager who made excuses when we complained, made snarky comments and when we left didn't even look up from her phone to say good buy or thank us. We were not given a container for the peanut shells, and on the window sill there were either dead bugs or peanut debris. One of my dining partners had the ribs and they were "terrible ". Poor and unprepared for large group of customers with reservations is definitely the managers fault. I was gone for 30 minutes and realized I had forgotten my water mug and flower arrangement By the time I came back I talked to someone hoping the lost items are found place where people who forgot personal things would be found. Very fun and eclectic roadhouse bar/grill that had wall to wall decorations that just screamed American Roadtrip (license plates, photos, kitschy souvenir type stuff). Lots to look at! This restaurant is also just off the water, where you can spot a gator from time to time. We sat outside, which started to get a little buggy at one point, but was otherwise just fine. They had live music playing too, which was loud(!) but we were far enough away that we could at least still talk at our table.
