Hello Villagers, My wife and I have been visiting our friends from Texas and the first place they took us was Cody's Original Roadhouse. We've been back 4-times this month and we'll be returning this week before we leave for our home in Illinois...which is where FUN goes to die. Visited Cody's recently and unfortunately had the worst service we've experienced there to date. We were seated and waited about 15 minutes before our waitress, Aubrey, finally came over. After taking our order, she brought two waters, then another waitress brought peanuts. After that, another 20 minutes went by with no updates. We honestly thought our main meals were going to arrive before our salads did. Our steaks finally came out around the 50-minute mark. Once the food was delivered, Aubrey never came back to check on us, refill drinks or water, or even ask if the steaks were cooked correctly. The food itself was okay, but the service completely ruined the experience. Very disappointing compared to previous visits. read more

The atmosphere at Cody's is relaxed and inviting. There are license plates from all over the place on the walls and old signs and decor. The servers, John and Rebecca (Rebecca was new and training), were great and very attentive. We enjoyed the live music and had a great, relaxing dinner. My only downside is the lack of Gluten Free options. I did get my usual "safe" meal, which is delicious, but it would be nice to see a few more options. That said, our drinks were delicious, (especially for happy hour!!!) and our food was equally amazing. We love Cody's, but please try to get a few more GF options!!! Thank you!! read more

Service was below par. We weren't welcomed, more like we were a bother. Food was nothing to brag about. The music over the intercom overcome the music that was I believe live in another room. The waitress didn't care enough to check in but once and when I asked what was the bucket on the table was for, she said "peanuts" yet there were none. Also, other tables had bread baskets but we weren't not offered. The crab cakes had little flavor. I will say the food was hot and the food looked appetizing. The cocktail, was bogo but I didn't know that til served (yes, both at the same time). It was nice they brought me another one as a fly had found it's home in it mid drink. read more

My first time here....let me start by saying that from 11am-7pm drinks are 2 for 1. The food was very good. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We took so much food with us. A 10ounce prime rib, steaks bites and calamari. You get a big house salad, rolls as butter. We got to dinner around 5:30 and were seated right away. One hour later the place was packed. Our waitress was really nice and very attentive. I would recommend this place for sure. read more

Arrived on a Wednesday at 1:30 pm. Friendly greeting as we walked in. Petrolia themed decor with license plates adorning the walls. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Promptly seated in a booth and server was quick to take our order. I ordered the seafood special, a crab cake, 4 scallops and four shrimp on a skewer. I chose broccoli as my side and it was presented on a bed of yellow rice. Bread and salad were included. Good value for $20.00. My only complaint was that the scallops were overcooked. Service was really slack. From salad & rolls to bbq plates, nothing was ever cleared off the tables, even at the time of payment. People next to us are trying to locate the waitress. We haven't seen her either & still waiting to pay. Ordered the promotional BBQ Baby Back ribs and my slab was never trimmed, so it was almost 1" if fat & white grizzle across the entire portion - not digestible or appealing! Our other slab was fine. Both corn cobs had lots of husks still on. SLACK kitchen service, but I will say all the food tasted good. Was a lil worried due to the star count. We were so tired and didn't want to drive anywhere and this place was a block from hotel. ***Peanut Allergy Alert*** peanuts on every table. ABYSMAL. First and 1000% LAST visit! We were excited because of the vibe and menu. Holy turd rolled in glitter, Batman! Here we go: SERVICE: The server took forever to come to our table. We told her it was our first visit. She said they they had just cut everyone, so it was a bad time to come! Uhhhh...great start. Didn't refill our water a single time. No asking if we wanted more of the "bottomless" salad. Rolling her eyes at every table. Okayyy.... FOOD: Cody's Original Roadhouse Salad took over a half hour to show up with rolls after ordering. Since we wanted different dressings, we each got a tiny bowl, not the fun silver bowls others got. Their "House Creamy Garlic Ranch Dressing" was Ken's ranch! Any ranch fan knows that! To back up that up, we can turn to the balsamic which was also, clearly, Ken's. BUTTER: I usually love fancy butters, but the cinnamon butter seemed like a weird nutty maple concoction that just wasn't right. It tasted like something I would have gotten from a pancake place in 1987. Yeast rolls were good. The wife sent back both of her 2-for-one margaritas. The fruit juice in the dirty-tasting water seemed bad. Pork sandwich: It was huge, but the pork was very iffy-tasted like horsemeat, so stopped after a few bites. Homemade potato chips would have been fun if they weren't cooked in old oil. Chicken over rice: Chicken was good, but for just under $16, it was so freaking thin & tiny! The yellow rice was ultra-meh. Mashed potatoes. DISGUSTING. I'm far from picky...instant mashed potatoes, gourmet mashed potatoes, just not loaded. These tasted like FISH. WHAT!? HOW does that even happen. Manager tasted it and said that's how it always is. Well, there ya go! Cody's fishy mashed potatoes are a thing. Skip this pig in a poke! Fun place to go in the Villages. They do their best to accommodate celiacs; recommend sticking with the grilled salmon and loaded baked potato. Only salad dressing that is GF is their house ranch. I really like their fresh grilled grouper. We were there during a playoff game so it was very loud and busy. Took a while to get peanuts brought to the table. read more

We were there for lunch with a big group of people around 11:30 The sever was overwhelm and should had some help besides herself. Salad was not fresh the meat looked like it was sitting out for quite sometime and served on a dirty plate . I ordered what the waitress recommended which was great. Poor and unprepared for large group of customers with reservations is definitely the managers fault. I was gone for 30 minutes and realized I had forgotten my water mug and flower arrangement By the time I came back I talked to someone hoping the lost items are found place where people who forgot personal things would be found. This place does not deserve the low star count. It originally deterred me, but I'm glad we went. The happy hour here is unexpected; you get two drinks for the price of one. Not half off. You order a beer during happy hour and they literally bring you two beers. Never seen that before, but my table got a chuckle out of it. I understand why some reviewers didn't like what they ordered. Looking at photos, some of that input is fair. However, if you play it safe and order something fried you can't go wrong (there are plenty of options). This buffalo chicken sandwich was not only well made and well sauced, but it was the size of my head. Absolutely delicious and plenty for leftovers. I admit, the single onion was silly looking. Cody's is good food and you get a good portion. Most of the time the service is great but there have been some times. The prices have definitely gone up these last couple of years. I do enjoy the prime rib. read more

Update August 2025 TRY AGAIN. NOT going to bring me back. You can tell, everything is off the pre-packaged truck. I had "Fresh Large Gulf Shrimp Platter"....guaranteed, not Large, Not Fresh. Small size shrimp and definitely not fresh. The rice was extremely salty. The mix Veggies were pre-packaged. My bride had "Cody's Original Burrito Bowl"....very small. Excited to have a good steak but our experience turned out terrible. Got seated immediately. Waitresss brought water and coke but not the beers. Two tables of four and six seated after us. Both tables were waited upon and she took their dinner order.... 24 minutes passed. Waitress continues to walk by us but still no order taken. Still no beer. We walked out and I addressed the situation at the hostess desk. The young guy says "did you pay for your drinks?" I said " all we got was a diet soda and took two sips off it". I told both the guy and girl standing there that their service was terrible. She just laughed at us while walking out and said "well have a nice day". Won't be back! Very fun and eclectic roadhouse bar/grill that had wall to wall decorations that just screamed American Roadtrip (license plates, photos, kitschy souvenir type stuff). Lots to look at! This restaurant is also just off the water, where you can spot a gator from time to time. We sat outside, which started to get a little buggy at one point, but was otherwise just fine. They had live music playing too, which was loud(!) but we were far enough away that we could at least still talk at our table. The Cody's at Brownwood does not at all deserve the bashing reviews. It certainly is a good place to drink, if that is what you are into, with the two for one special that is usually in effect. We have been there many times at this point, and the service is always good, never a snarler, never a significant item not coming. It is a large menu. The Sunday deal that they email us is crazy good. It comes with a large salad, bread, and entree with sides, and apple cobbler. I have no vested interest in giving them a 5, I am not friends with anyone who works there or anything, I just think that it is a good to great deal, and is unfairly getting ripped up by some reviewers. read more

My family's experience at this restaurant on my birthday, July 8, 2025 was HORRIBLE. The service from Summer, our waitress was nothing short of negligence. Our party of 7 (4 adults and 3 children) waited 1.5 hours to be served. Summer blamed it on the kitchen, yet could not defend her blame on the kitchen when other guests seated after us were enjoying their food. We asked for "The Manager" who also blamed the kitchen. Without question our server ignored us...it was NOT the kitchen. On top of all this our bills were calculated incorrectly. We are NEVER going to eat at Cody's again. Finally, I left a similar review on Cody's website, which promised to contact me to discuss our issues. To date, no one from "corporate" has contacted me. Good bye, Cody's. read more

We waited 25 minutes to be called in to be seated and thought the delay may have been due to lack of severs. Once we were seated, we noticed quite a few servers so it must have had to do with kitchen help. The atmosphete is very casual and that's okay. Our server, Kelly, was doing the best she could and approached us within minutes. The cabenet wine I ordered was not good so she replaced it with another cocktail. We ordered breaded mushroom and chicken quesadilla which took more than a half hour to be delivered to our table. Today I had lunch with my parents and good friends at Cody's. At the The Villages, the way of life is a lot slower, and very much senior-friendly; an attribute that my parents found very appealing for this area. The food, service and ambiance is very similar to the Applebee's vibes. The portions are really big. I took half of my turkey club sandwich, back to the hotel. I recommend going at lunchtime. This is for take out only. We've done take out a few times and it's been decent. The order is always accurate and the staff is friendly. We've only had the chicken tenders, burgers and salad so far. All have been okay - nothing spectacular but not bad. One of the nice things about Cody's is that everything comes with a huge salad and their delicious rolls. Also, they have specials regularly like Ladies Night, Labor Day BBQ, Veteran specials, etc. That's really nice and the prices are very reasonable.
