There's this friend of mine who frequently tells me how great the coffee is here. We work together, we drink coffee together, and he usually finds a way to work in how "great coffee is at the Commissary". Well, folks, the other day he and I both happened to be driving by and when he pointed this spot out I insisted we stop. I'm no coffee connoisseur but I know a good cup when I drink it. He prepared me ahead of time for the price, which was supposedly $4 a cup. We entered and looked at the menu board. It was now $5 a cup for a pour over. A pour over, as I understand it, means the dude behind the counter pours boiling water over the ground for a single serving. How is this superior to, you know, just brewing the coffee? Anyway, I paid my $5 and received my cup of coffee. It was something called "Mad Cap" from Ethiopia. Ho-ly shit. $5 for this?? I expected to be blown the fuck away for $5 (it was a relatively small cup, too), instead this tasted no better than the coffee they offer me when I drop my car off at the mechanic. I've been to this Commissary location a few times and each time has been a pleasant experience. They have a small parking lot but street parking is almost always available. The service here is pretty okay. On my recent visit here I also ordered food, the Fairfax with added avocado. I also wanted a vanilla iced coffee but I guess they only do iced lattes or cold brew, so I settled with cold brew. Commissary's cold brew is not my favorite because of its acidity, but I like their lattes. The food came out in a timely manner and was surprisngly really good! The brioche was light and fluffy, as were the eggs. The sriracha mayo was delicious and the cheese and avocado tied the whole sandwich together. I also very much enjoyed the side of potatoes it came with. They were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside with a delicious spice coating. Not really my go-to place for coffee but I think I would come back for the food. read more

Why is this place not rated higher!!!!!?I really liked this place! Came here with a friend after hiking at Cahuenga Peak for brunch. There's a little lot but also plenty of residential street parking. It's a cafeteria style, pretty simple. Go up, order, pay up, pick up your food when they call your name. Their coffee is wonderful, we each had an iced vanilla latte and it was wayyy better than a starbucks one. I had the Burbank biscuit which is a sunny side up egg on their homemade biscuits, and a good portion of their potatoes. Their biscuit was nice and dense, the egg was perfectly sunny side. The potatoes were also REALLY good, almost fried but super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. (Nvm, apparently they're called TRIPLE fried potatoes, so that explains why it was so damn good). The absolute best part was their chocolate chip cookie. My friend is a mind reader and probably saw my eyes linger too long on the cookie and ordered it for us. I can confidently say that is the best cookie I've ever had. It was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, soft and sugary/buttery on the inside, with HUGE chocolate chunks. The chocolate chunks in it seemed perpetually slightly melted, just amazing. Seriously, the best cookie in LA. We sat, ate at a leisurely pace and stayed for like 2 hours, God bless their AC, it was wonderful. Especially when it's 90+ degrees outside.The restrooms are actually outside, so you have to go out the door and it'll be on the side of the building. At one point I vaguely remember the place getting super busy, and someone came up and cleaned up our finished coffee glasses for us and I'm wondering if that was a hint to GTFO or if they were being nice. Stumbled upon coffee commissary while going to a doctor's appointment -yes I know I know, I shouldn't be stopping to get coffee while on my way to the hospital. But I can't help it! ! I'm an addict! Any who, when trying out new cafes I always order my standard no-way-you-can-fuck-this-up drink; an iced soy latte. My logic behind this is because even if you're not a super skilled barista, pulling a shot and adding milk to a cup of ice isn't incredibly difficult. Unfortunately the first hiccup during my first visit was that they don't carry soy =(( however, they do have almond milk (blue diamond to be brand specific) and that's ok with me =) to pair with my iced ALMOND milk latte, I ordered one of their very enticing chocolate chip cookies. I was not disappointed my friends! This cookie literally turned me into the cookie monster and had me thinking of reasons to get back into line to order another. Unfortunately, I was already running late and that stupid responsible character inside me was tugging. With all that said, I was very pleased with coffee commissary and have been back 4 more times after (in about 8 days time.. again I must remind you, I am an addict.) The only reasons for a 4 star rather than a 5 is because they don't have soy milk and because their parking situation is to the equivalent of parking in silver lake or los Feliz -difficult. Ehhh...checked out this place with my brother since he is a big fan and lives local. I ordered the brisket breakfast burrito, a pour over & a double shot of espresso. The coffee was solid but the brisket burrito was dripping in grease - sick! Thank god I did not spill on my shirt. Seriously so greasy, I stopped eating it at some point. The salsa that came with this was good - nice and spicy. The portions were nice because they were not ridiculously big. Ambiance was ok, nothing fancy but they did have a nice patio. Parking is tight as the lot only fits about 5-6 cars. Doubtful I would be back for anything other than the coffee. read more

What a great gem of burbank. I have passed this store a hundred times but finally stopped here after going to the adorable coffee commissary in hollywood. The parking is very convenient which makes coming here great. they have there own small lot in the back. The decor here is cool which makes it a great place to meet up with friends. I ordered an ice latte. It was very good, but the highlight of my experience was the nine grain muffin. it taste amazing. I can't quite put my finger on it but there is something in his muffin with makes it taste so good. there are hints of banana which really gives the muffin depth. The seed and grains five this muffin a great texture. It was fun coming here. The staff is very nice and helpful. You can even see them making the muffins and other baked goods, so you know what you are eating is very fresh. Next time I go back I would love to try a sandwich they look rad. read more

I keep passing by this place and always told myself I'd come and check it out. Decided to pay this place a visit before work and got myself an iced coffee that one of the baristas had recommended. It was my first time and didn't know what to order and he had offered me a shot of espresso to try (in a shot glass). I wish I had remembered the name, but it had a very unique taste. Very delicious...had a good blend of dark chocolate and acai berry in the mix and so I decided he make me a regular to go. Boy, that drink was strong! Kept me awake and alert throughout my shift. I liked this place so much that I returned the next day to try one of their iced latte with 3 shots of espresso. Now, the reason I give this place 5 stars is this...they have almond milk. Yes, that's right...not soy milk or just regular milk...ALMOND MILK! It's a huge deal for me because soy and dairy gives me a slight reaction on my face where I start to turn red..and somehow break out with pimples the next day. Aint nobody got time for that! *snaps snaps* . I don't know a lot of places that offers almond milk, but this will definitely be my new go to coffee spot whenever I need a pick me upper. I've bought coffee (drip and espresso) here three times. Coffee is always room temperature at best. On my third visit I specifically asked for the latte to be "extra hot"... the guy taking my order responded with a very sarcastic, "oh ok." The food itself was great. Had the Burbank Biscuit and was really impressed. But, for having coffee has half of their namesake, the actual coffee was on the verge of terrible. The staff service was really quite poor too. We took longer than 5 seconds to decide what we wanted and that seemed to disrupt the entire morning of the girl working the counter. And no one handling food was wearing gloves which is an instant strike. This place seemed to be trying way to hard to cling to that "LA hip" vibe. This place is not cheap.Two drinks and something small to eat can set you back $20 easily. My boyfriend loves their latte and breakfast sandwich, so we end up hanging out at Commissary on a weekend. Today was no exception. We got a latte, almond Chai (creamy goodness) and a breakfast biscuit sandwich with bacon. It took forever for the food to come out, but the biscuit was super delicious. I loved the gooey cheese, flaky biscuit and creamy egg. Oh, the side potatoes were even better. They were super hot and crunchy. They might have not been the best snack to have with an almond Chai latte, but who cares. I enjoyed the fried potato goodness. It's just okay. I gave it 2 Stars because service was great and the place looks nice. I ordered a quiche and a pour over and unfortunately it did not meet my excitement or expectation. The quiche was heavy and honestly didn't taste good. I was hoping for an authentic Parisian style Quiche but ended up with a bland Egg Pie for $6. There seems to be a few people giving this place 0 stars, and I can understand your concerns, but when it comes to COFFEE itself, this place is currently serving the best coffee in the San Fernando valley. (better that Republic of Pie) I've been a few times already and have not been disappointed with either the coffee or the food. The brazilian pourover I had was near perfection, and I've had several cappuccinos that were impeccable. The chocolate chips cookies are insane. The egg sandwich and the potatoes are amazing. I stopped by because I needed a coffee before work. I ordered a drip coffee and was asked what kind of coffee bean I wanted. Apparently ordering a dark roast was a faux pas. The Coffee Commissary is a nice addition to Burbank Media district. I got the quiche ($5.50), which was full of flavor with onion and mushrooms along with a flaky crust. It tasted good, but I didn't think to ask if they could toast it and they never asked, so I would recommend asking if it can be served hot, which would make it better. Tried their mocha ($4.50). Modest portion. Tasted fair. I would recommend asking for it made extra hot, given that it was lukewarm when I got it and sipped it immediately. The space is open and airy. Very bright with lots of windows. The seating environment is modern industrial. Has a small outdoor patio in the back which is cool to relax at. Would definitely recommend coming with a friend or two and chatting it up since the place has never been that busy the 2 times I've visited, so no pressure to have to leave. The staff has been mainly guys dressed up in hipster attire. Nice dudes, service is with a smile. So that is pleasant. Walking in, everyone is on a MacBook, which is expected, but for some reason this crowd of people on their MacBooks seem more arrogant than any other cafe I've been to. An example to help paint the picture in your head: a hipster using a MacBook pro as a laptop stand for his MacBook Air. I grabbed a menu and found something I liked, "we ran out of that" I was told. I found something else that looked good, "we ran out of that" I was told once more. This went on for three more items before I simply ordered a cold brew coffee. It as fine. My expectations were firmly in place. Today, I sent my husband in to buy another loaf of bread. Thinking, surely they had to have fresh bread by now. This time, there was no heads up, and the bread was obviously TWO DAYS OLD. Inedible. Really Commissary? A FOUR DOLLAR TWO DAY OLD baguette? If I wasn't so pitifully lazy, I would have returned it. Last evening I went there to grab a coffee and chill with some friends I haven't seen in a long time, aggro/metal style music was being played at a high volume and we could barely hear one another. We asked one of the staff members if it's possible to lower the volume and she said that it's not possible but we can go sit outside instead in a very unfriendly manner. Oh really? Thanks for the advice! We would have already done that if it wasn't so cold outside or if you at least had outdoor heaters. Stopped by one morning and ordered an egg & cheese breakfast sandwich (added bacon), and a cappuccino. The breakfast sandwich was absolutely spectacular. It was the most perfect one I've ever had. The egg was scrambled but still golden and cooked just enough to not be runny, while still maintaining a melt-in-your-mouth consistency and not a McDonald's-ish egg mass. I usually prefer my bacon crispy, but their thick slices were cooked to perfection. Soft but not chewy, and none that pulled out of the sandwich after you bit into it. I ordered it on the croissant which was fluffy and buttery deliciousness. It also came with a side of potatoes and a dipping sauce. The free-range fried chicken option is intriguing and I'll definitely be back to try it as well as exploring more of their menu. They take themselves so seriously here. They claim to think their light roasting is so third wave but if you're going to do a light roast, at least make it taste good. I've only attended their burbank location so far, but i'm eager to attend their other locations. The interior is very spacious, with a modernish vibe. The space is very practical, it looks like a good place to get some work done. Every time I come I get a nonfat latte, which is always good, and their 7 grain muffin, which I am quite obsessed with. I have no idea how that muffin is so good, literally it is my all time favorite! The outdoor seating area is super cute, looks like lovely place to meet a friend. The parking situation: They have a small lot, but be warned, there is only a few spaces, and its quite small.
