I used a couple of coupons from my  plant based deals book to have dinner with a friend at Cofu.  They serve plant based sushi and are a sober bar as well. As the word "sober" implies, the beverages at this restaurant are all non alcoholic. It's a small space but very cozy and relaxing. There was even a screen set up, with the famous film "Spirited Away" projected onto it!  Featured here:  Fried "Fish" Eggplant Aburi sushi "Short Rib" sushi Onsai Omakase set Choya Ume Shu (Plum Wine) Sol Bru Turkey Tail "Short Rib" sushi was kind of a mixed experience. We enjoyed the taste of it; however, even back in my days as a meat eater, short rib wasn't something I had ever come across on any nigiri sushi menu. This was a bit of a bizarre option although not necessarily bad. Just a bit of a strange concept, but we were happy with how it tasted. Neither of us thought much of the drinks. The Ume Shu was quite bland and flavorless. Turkey Tail had a much stronger flavor, but while there was nothing wrong with how it tasted, there wasn't anything particularly pleasing about the taste either. Don't think I'd bother ordering any of their drinks again. The two of us differed in our opinions of many of the other dishes. There were two dishes however that we both agreed on. The "Fried Fish" appetizer and the imitation Tuna sushi from our Omakase set were dishes that we both found to be very impressive.  While there were some items that missed the mark, it was overall an enjoyable meal and I would say that Cofu is definitely worth checking out! My family of 4 and my parents are visiting from the U.S. and found COFU online. My husband and younger son are both vegetarian. It's amazing the selection of veggie sushi (16 choices). We have Planta near us and their selection of veggie sushi is 9. We got both party platters, which has 4 pieces each. Then ordered our favs which were Mexican, short rib and smoked salmon. Those came with 8 pieces per order. I would suggest the chef work on the presentation of the party platters. The food was tasty and the non vegetarians in our group also liked it. There were also lots of good mocktail options, like a white sangria.

I came here with a friend on a whim and both of us were pleasantly surprised. Neither one of us are vegetarian, let alone vegan, but we were intrigued and wanted to give it a try. We ordered off the omakase menu to share, and were blown away. Incredibly. So many of the items tasted like the real deal. As two people who definitely enjoy their fish, we didn't feel like we were missing out at all. The fish alternatives were incredibly tasty and also tasted uncannily similar to real fish. Their entire drink menu is sans alcohol, which is exciting for people who like us who don't really drink. Their location is actually really off the beaten track. Tucked away almost under the Granville Street Bridge in this little plaza before you enter Granville Island. It's almost easy to miss. The place is also quite small so we opted for the patio seating, which was nice for the open air on this summer day. All in all, go! Their food is amazing.

Really good, tasted super good and we are picky vegans from LA. Not expensive either, $50 for a lunch that fed three of us + leftovers. The owner was really sweet and the service was great, got our food right away and she answered all our questions. The salmon was debatably better than real salmon.

I tried COFU for the first time and it was so good! It's a cute restaurant on Granville island, it's a smaller space but doesn't feel crowded! The service and food were great! I loved the variety of pressed sushi and the ramen was delicious! Their oolong tea was also great! I'll definitely be back on my next trip to Vancouver!

They now have a spicy ramen available ($18), which comes with a spicy oat and soy milk base, plenty of noodles, soy meat, bean sprouts, bok choy, and black fungus. The broth was slightly sweet, slightly spicy, but not overly complex or with the depth of some other vegan ramens around town. Price-wise, this is one of the most expensive vegan ramens in town, so isn't the best value for money. I would stick with COFU's sushi offerings, as that really stands out.

New Japanese pressed sushi shop opened near Granville Island. The small shop is clean and bright with welcoming services. I have ordered a "Opening assorted sushi" for takeout. This combo came with 9 pieces of sushi with half meat/fish pressed sushi and half vegan pressed sushi. My box had: rosted beef, smoked salmon with ikura, cooked shrimp, saba fish with pickled radish, and bbq eel fish. They were all well seasoned and had a great torched scent. The vegetable sushi came with: eggplant, pumpkin, avocado, and asparagus. They used black rice for the vegetable sushi and they were very light and healthy. Well balanced box with beautiful presentation. I saw the card said the grand opening is on January 08, 2022. Maybe they will bring out more variety or menu after.

I could have used a bit…read moremore pickled radish and greens to balance it out, but honestly, it was the best I've ever had. We ordered a half serving and we couldn't finish. Dwenjang jjigae had an interesting twist. It was lighter and more radish-forward than the traditional version, which I didn't mind, but it felt a bit unusual to call it dwenjang jjigae. It came with mushrooms, radish, tofu, and thin slices of beef. Overall, it was light and very enjoyable. Soondae was different from the typical version I'm used to. Here, it's made with an innards casing and the filling was also different, like meaty with less noodles. It had a strong flavor and aroma that I didn't prefer but the texture was soft, not chewy, and it paired nicely with kimchi and radish. It was fine to try but I probably wouldn't order it again. We ordered a small, and couldn't finish. Side dishes were limited to three varieties (fish cake, kimchi, bean sprouts) and served in small portions. With the richness of the bossam and strong taste of the soondae, we needed more kimchi and pickled radish but it was hard to get our server's attention, likely because she was busy attending to all the tables. We enjoyed the warm ambiance, and it seemed like many diners were enjoying the army stew. We'll be back to try more items and for the bossam.
