Really love the community building at this venue. Spacious feeling outdoors with the tropical plants and inside has the modern wooden rustic feel. There was decent indoor seating, along with outdoor seating, too. Lots of cute neighborhood puppies to scratch as well! These people are highly rated as coffee roasters, so I had to give them a try and ordered several different well regarded coffees online. I use a Technovorm drip coffee maker and a Breville smart grinder and do my best to insure everything is dead right on. I very carefully and exactly weigh the coffee to the exact gram, the right grind and the bottled water to the exact ML. Bottom line their coffee tasted beyond terrible. I was at a complete loss. I called two different locations numerous times, no one answers and you cannot leave a message. Well.....oooook I found an email for them and explained my Dilemma. The bag was stamped with 3-30. Ok was that the ship date or the roasting date? I got the coffee the next day, the first. If it was the roasting date and the ship date, the coffee certainly needed to outgas for a few days, or a week. Hmm.........haven't bothered to respond, so either they just don't care, or just too damn busy counting their money. Absolutely no repeat for me with these people. There are too many other good roasters out there who roast good coffee and actually care about their clientele. read more

So glad COGNOSCENTI COFFEE has a location here in Downtown LA. They have great tasting beans and it shows in their cortado. Their CHAI LATTE is strong and sweet. Fuel for work. Their tea is in bags not loose. They have a long communal table if you wanted to sit down while you're enjoying your drink. Looks like the space converts to a restaurant at night. Best coffee in Culver City by far. The pastries are also to die for. I recommend the pistachio pain au chocolat (they call it pistachio croissant, but it is a pain au chocolate). The coffee grounds to buy are also the best in town. I like the Espresso they make in house (I think its "Hoot," or has at least the picture of an own on it), and they can grind it for you to whatever machine you use for your espresso. The interior and exterior design are wonderful, feels like a famous architect designed the building. Dogs only allowed in the back patio. Cognoscenti is a cute li'l spot that I may have bypassed one too many times...knowing Starbucks and Dunkin' are just a block away, it's been too tempting to go the basic route, knowing that I'll be shelling out what I feel is for the same thing here. Well, paid my first visit in awhile late last year and was reminded of why it's really worth its while. The latte I got was just divine and I have to admit, worth the extra $ you pay over other chains. You can just taste the difference. But let's talk about their 'breakfast sandwich'...the egg/bacon bagel...it is quite literally one of the best versions I've tasted, ever. I can't explain it. They offer some food there and even make simple syrups from scratch! Came for a meeting and seating can be close proximity to others but not a big deal. I ordered a cup of coffee which you can get for "here" or "to go." If you have it "here" they give you unlimited free refills!!! Then when you are ready to leave, you can get a refill in a to go cup. Bright space with solid Wifi, clean restrooms, and smooth coffee! As someone who usually orders sweetened lattes, I judge coffee spots by how much I can tolerate their plain latte with oat milk. I got just that at Cognoscenti and it was delicious!! Be aware that you have to pay more for alternative milk and sweeteners, but they have a bunch of options all for under a dollar - cheaper than many LA cafes. This place looks nondescript outside and is quite frankly easy to pass by. Inside, though, is an airy space with big windows and a long table - perfect to plop down at for a few hours to do work or read. They don't have outlets which sucks, but the great Wifi still makes it a work environment in my opinion. I will definitely be back and would recommend Cognoscenti to anyone visiting DTLA looking for a tasty pick me up. read more

I was in DTLA for a meeting and needed a quick caffeine fix. My trusty yelp app led me to Cognoscenti Coffee! They have a sign on the sidewalk featuring their owl mascot so you won't miss it. There are a few tables and chairs outside. A lot of people walk by with their dogs so if you are a dog lover, you might get the opportunity to pet one! The inside is quite spacious. There are two long communal tables and additional seating against the front window. It was relatively quiet and I can see myself studying here. The menu is your standard coffee shop menu. They don't have a specialty drink but they roast their own beans. Milk alternatives (almond, soy and oat) are an additional $0.50. The coffee is decent but I won't be going back which is a shame because I live right next door. I went in to order two lattes and two croissants this morning and the person taking my order was so rude I walked out in the middle of my order. The first issue which I wasn't going to make a big deal of was when I ordered the coffees and was asked which kind of milk so I said 2% is fine. He responded "ok whole milk then". Not a big deal but why not say we don't have 2% is whole milk okay, or something? The thing that made me walk out mid-order was when I asked about the croissants. They're all on a platter and not clearly labeled or grouped by type, so I asked if they had two ham and cheese croissants and he didn't really answer my question so I pointed at two croissants on different areas of the platter and asked if each one was ham and cheese. His response was "do you not see the cheese sticking out of them?" with a smirk on his face. At that point I walked out. Disappointing because I've always had a pretty good experience at this place until today. I prefer to go to smaller coffee shops but I'll be going to the Dunkin or Starbucks that are less than a block away. read more

Cognoscenti Coffee is a fantastic little spot that very much represents the strong DTLA cafe scene, which is saying something given how strong the competition is. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Quaint, comfortable, and with enough real estate to either work or chat, Cognoscenti Coffee really get their atmosphere right and they pair it with really good service. While it's not as much designed as a work space you can certainly do that while keeping a steady flow of food and drink flowing. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $5.50 for a good sized Mocha was more or less standard pricing. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This was a very good Mocha, and while I admittedly don't have a deep appreciation for coffee drinks apart from the ones that are really out there, I'd say this very much hit the spot. Two Stars. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? Cognoscenti Coffee is a great go-to, but my reasoning for four stars instead of five is that Cognoscenti doesn't really have anything that 'pops' like my other favorite DTLA coffee shops. Tilt? I'm so glad I tried this place! I was in the area and wanted to try a new coffee shop. I ordered an iced almond milk latte and it was super good! I'm a bit sad that this place isn't near my house because I will definitely be going back! The coffee is very flavorful and it doesn't taste water down like most lattes taste. And they even had eco friendly (eco friendly not plastic plastic) straws! Which is a big deal since most places either have no straws or the bad paper ones... Which we all know get soggy and unusable in about 5 minutes. So that is a big yay for me! The inside of the shop was super cute and bright. Definitely a great space to sit and get some work done. It's not a super big shop but there were still some tables and benches open when I went in. The staff was very friendly and made the overall experience wonderful. Even though I've only been here once on a visit to LA, I know I'll be making it a regular stop on future trips. Sunday afternoon after brunch, and the cappuccino hit the spot exactly. Just delicious. I ordered an iced latte with oat milk and vanilla syrup and it tastes exactly as a true latte should, which can be tricky to pull off with oat milk, so 5/5. I also ordered a bacon/egg/cheese potato burrito and it was just as beautiful as it was tasty. The salsa was great too. 5/5! My partner ordered a bagel bacon/egg/cheese sandwich and with the first bite uttered the words, "I don't know if I'm good enough for this sandwich".... "I don't know if they could have made a better sandwich". 5/5 from him! The staff was also very friendly! I've visited here about few times in the past ~month and a half since I've moved to the area. The staff are super friendly, got the coffee to me fairly quickly and they have dog treats for your fur babies (huge plus!) but the coffee just doesn't cut it for me. I've ordered/tried the: hot honey latte, iced honey latte and a plain hot latte. The coffee itself is definitely mediocre, especially for a $6 coffee plus tip so you're really looking at $7. The iced honey latte was basically a glass of cold milk - I couldn't even taste the coffee and when I received it, it was very light colored so essentially, I paid $7 for a glass of milk. The hot lattes are fairly small in cup size but still are very milky tasting. It might be great for someone who doesn't like the taste of coffee and needs it watered down but for me, a bit more espresso is needed. They also charge extra if you order your coffee iced - yikes. As someone who is obsessed with local small coffee shops, there are definitely better ones in the area to check out. Cheers! read more
