Colachi is a new Pakistani HALAL restaurant that opened up in the Placentia/Yorba Linda area. They serve traditional Pakistani dishes such as nihari, haleem, and BBQ items. The main seating area has space at most for 60 people and a private area for up to 20 more. I tried several dishes to see how the compared to other Pakistani restaurants in the area. I ordered several items to sample and then took the rest for leftovers at home. Gola kabobs ($14) - The initial kabobs I received were over cooked and a little hard. After talking with the manager he had them make some new ones for me, and they were juicier. But taste wise I prefer the ones at Bawarchi and Nikki's. Bihari kabobs ($14) - This was probably my favorite dish here. It was soft, tender and fall apart delicious. Chicken malai ($14) - The boneless chicken chunks were marinated in yogurt, creamy and tasted pretty good. Nihari ($15) - It's hard finding good nihari here in California, and this was decent (best I had was in Dubai). This beef stew (3 large chunks of beef) had good flavoring and was tender. Naan ($2) - The naan was soft, buttery and reasonably priced. Overall, the food wasn't bad and the pricing was fair. I do feel that Bundoo Khan in Fullerton has better bihari kabobs and chicken malai. They also offer catering here. I wanted to try either the chicken or lamb karahi here, but they only served it with bone-in meat. read more

I have ordered food here multiple times and Nihari is my go to item from here. The naan here is tasty, and the malai boti was ok. I ventured out from my usual order and tried the Haleem and it was a let down it was super runny and not very flavorful. I wouldn't get that again. We came here on day two of their soft opening and let me tell you it was amazing. The customer service by Ali was amazing. He took on the spot advice and it was like he cared for our opinions. We tried the half chicken karahi, behari kabob, malai boti, and chicken biryani on their recommendations. They redid the biryani after we asked for a little more spice. The behari kabob hit the spot! Omg finally. The malai boti was also great. Both melted in our mouths, were spiced perfectly, and the quality and quantity received were both admirable. The chicken karahi was good as well, just not our type of spice. Ali mentioned for us to just let them know in advance when ordering next time and they will take care of it. The biryani originally came out hot but not spicy. We asked and he brought out a fresh batch that was smoking hot . Ali also mentioned if we let them know beforehand, he can add potato to the biryani (a must for me). Friendly service by Ali and the food was great. Show up at 12:45 and the restaurant was closed. By looking inside plates with leftovers food and drinks were on the table from the night before. Must have been some party! You can clearly see a mess inside the. After a very hungry uncle consistently knocking/banging on the door, the door was finally unlocked and we were told that it will take the kitchen 45 to 50 minutes to make "fresh" dishes. That was sign for us to not stick around and wait for "fresh" food. I guess anyone with money and a dream can open a restaurant but not run it. I'm not an expert of Pakistani food, and there aren't many options in the area. I tried their Sunday buffet and it started off rocky. It appears to be family run and there was no one to welcome us in or tell us where to sit or how to order for about 10 minutes so we seated ourselves. It didn't help that the goth daughter was extremely strange or introverted and non communicative. The owner and workers also didn't seem friendly to outsiders if you know what I mean. The seating arrangement is terrible as they set up for large tables (visitors appear to come in large sizes/families) and you get stuck behind the chairs due to poor spacing. Since there might not be many options, I think they receive very good business from Muslims and halal eaters. In terms of food, I don't think I liked it and it gave me extreme heartburn and I love spicy food. The popper/bread is too oily for me, they don't offer garlic naan for their buffets. Sadly they also did not include the spinach dish either. The offerings were mainly meat dishes which were just ok to me (I didn't really think it was BBQ as described, more like pan seared). The 3 items that I was good with were the saucy stewed beef, the BBQ seared chicken breast (although texture was strange on some), and the mango drink which had mango chunks and not the premade stuff that is really heavy. Would I come back? Likely not... unfortunately I didn't find anything that I would crave. I felt that it was more expensive than Indian food, perhaps the halal meat is more expensive? But at Indian buffets it's slightly cheaper or they offer things like champagne, and items that I prefer like garlic naan, more vegetables dishes, and curry. Maybe Pakistani isn't my jam? read more

Omg the food was INSANE!! We got both the mutton and chicken karhais for dine in and ended up taking the chicken briyani and veal briyani to go(whatever, don't judge). Let me tell you, that veal briyani is LEGIT. Colachi, this Pakistani is so glad you're here!! There's even something a little karachi-ish about how the naan tastes. The nihari was the best I can remember having at any restaurant locally - perfect level of spice (doesn't wipe out your tongue but it's still very flavorful), super tender meat and the right consistency. Overpriced and very disappointing experience. We paid nearly $60 for just two dishes, mutton curry and chicken tikka, without even ordering naan. The chicken tikka tasted like plain chicken pieces tossed into tomato sauce with little to no flavor or proper marination, and it even had an unpleasant smell. The mutton curry was full of fat and lacked flavor aside from overwhelming red chili heat. When we arrived to pick up the food, no one greeted or acknowledged us. Today was my second time coming here. The first time I cam with a couple of friends and they loved it! So I came back with more friends haha and they loved it too! The food here is amazing - really delicious and clean. You don't feel bad after eating it - you feel good! The staff are super nice and the owner is very friendly and very generous as well. My favorite thing about them is that the meat and chicken are halal and hand slaughtered - not machine chicken!!! This is what I look for in restaurants and this one delivered on it!! This review is for the buffet. The beef seekh kabab was raw when I opened it! So awful! I complained to the owner and he took my plate and said they would be making more seekh kababs. Also service sucks. The selection for the buffet is minimal, not much variety. I was sitting at the edge of the table but the owner told me to sit at the other side of the table cuz I guess I was in the way of the buffet line. Why even have a chair at the edge of the table then?? When we were paying the cashier asked how the food was. Kolachi shows promise, but consistency is still a work in progress. I've only done takeout so far, and on a good day, service is smooth and the food delivers. My go-to orders--Buttered Roghani Naan, Kadhai Chicken, and Gola Kabobs--have been excellent. The biryani is a decent take on Pakistani-style, but doesn't quite hit the mark compared to spots like Niki's or Tikka Guys. Malai Kabobs in past orders were a clear miss. It's definitely hit-or-miss--friends (seasoned aficionados) have experienced long waits, missing items, and off tasting dishes. That said, the potential is there. Terrible experience. From a dead roach to foul smell in seekh kabab. Roghni naan was expensive and looked like a flat sesame bread. Full karahi portion was small too. Service needs improvement, brought karahi but didn't bring naan at once, we had karahi on table and had to wait for naan so we can start dinner!! Items were delivered with pauses. They needs to deliver items to table at once!!! It was overall not a pleasant experience. It's more like a dhaaba restaurant with overpriced menu (we spent over $210 on naans, karahis, kababs, waters for the party of 8 adults/ 2 kids) !!! Never going back!!! Not authentic Pakistani food at all Biryani had no flavor except spicy from red chilli powder thats all we could feel in our mouth. Chicken karahi had chicken pieces which were so big as if it was treated with hormones and was chewy. Naan were made from stale dough and were undercooked with thick undercooked edges.
