First impression last a long time and will keep you coming back for more. My first visit in WV. This place was highly recommended and bragged about. The service was alright but the food was soooo delicious. I tried the calamari, soup, bruschetta, pasta salad and the famous pepperoni bun OMG! I wanted more and wished I can take some back to LA. We've also tried the pizza to go. Well I did not eat all of these all at the same time. We went there maybe three times with my local friends and guess what. My last meal before my flight back home was at this same restaurant but the other location which I think wasn't as good as this location and all four of us all agreed. Palatable - Yes. It seems to have more of a cult following. "If you grew up in the area then this is the best ever!!" Well, travel 90 minutes north to Mineos and then you'll understand what a pizza tastes like. It's a different type of pizza. More like bread, slathered with sauce and cheese. Sicilian style I reckon. Colasessano's has been serving its square, thick pizza for over 50 years but the quality of the pizzas served today is questionable. Simply put, the sauce is sweet, absent of garlic, basil, or oregano; it's just tomato sauce. The dough is also sweet and yeasty with very little character. For contrast the cheese tasted like a sharp and sour provolone that was stringy and chewy in texture. The pepperoni was of low quality. An antipasta salad was also ordered which had slices of pepperoni and cubes of salami atop chunks of barely green iceberg lettuce. Worst of all, the Italian dressing was clearly store bought instead of homemade which is sacrilege for an Italian restaurant in North Central WV. 2) Service - 2 stars. The waitress was pleasant. She took the order and disappeared for quite some time. The pizza was very slow to come out and drink refills were nearly impossible. 3) Atmosphere - 3 stars. The newly remodeled dining room is clean and group oriented. Some of the seats are torn and damaged. Posters and photos of famous friends and old Fairmont events decorate the interior. The dining room could probably sit 8-9 groups of people and the parking lot is a good indication of how busy the restaurant is. 4) Price - 3 stars. A decent value for the size of the pizza, but you're getting full early on thick dough and chewy cheese. 5) Additional Comments - Colasessano's does not a make a good pizza these days. Better quality ingredients and more care in making the product can only affect the bottom line in a positive way. Down in Fairmont for a work related meeting, a coworker brought me here for a quick lunch. He used to work in the area and raved about the pepperoni buns. I ordered a pepperoni and cheese with mixed peppers bun. It was very good and not what I was expecting at all. I had in my mind that this was going to be a traditional pepperoni roll, but instead, out came something that resembled a hoagie filled with pepperoni, cheese, sauce and peppers. To me. It almost tasted like an Italian sausage sandwich, but it was tasty none the less! My coworker also told me to try a piece of pizza, which you can purchase by the slice for a little over three dollars and oh my gosh was it delicious. It is a very thick square slice, with tons of gooey cheese which is an absolute must for any pizza in my book! 10/10 Would come back in order an entire pizza next time. read more

Colasessano's saved the day! We were visiting family in Fairmont and had no clue where to grab a quick bite to eat. The first restaurant we walked into was grimy and smelled like old fryer oil- needless to say we were very disappointed. I'm so happy we drove down the road a bit and found Colasessano's. This is not the original crust recipe. The original crust is much more thick and crunchy. Instead of the hard shiny bottom crust , I picked up a pizza and it had a soft crust on the bottom with pits all over it , like the crust that Pizza Hut uses , and that's exactly what it took me back to when I bit into it. My father passed away when I was young , and his favorite place to eat was Pizza Hut , and when I bit into this pizza that's what the crust tasted like. I love the frozen Colasessano's pizza from price cutter - I eat at least three per month , and I will continue to do so. read more

This restaurant is a legend--people used to come from Morgantown to get their pizza. Sadly, it has grown fat and lazy--closes early, is closed every holiday, and has indifferent service. $3.00 for a 2 liter drink to go. The pizza is good. It only comes in one size and has very thick crust. They only offer a few toppings (pepperoni, sausage (which is like ground beef) and peppers and onions). We also ordered the pepperoni buns, which are sort of a cross between a pizza sub and a sloppy joe. They were soggy and gross so we threw them away after one bite. Also, there are two locations, so make sure you order from the right one. Giving this place 4 stars for good cheap pizza. read more

So i hear about this place how good it is, but I ordered a pizza and mozzarella sticks and the verdict the cheese sticks were so much better than the pizza it was like eating a big moist ball of dough, hardly any sauce and to much cheese the crust was part and i had a hard tine picking it up b/c it was caked with cheese sticking to the box no flavor! Every person I ever have known who grew up in Fairmont mentions Colasessano's pepperoni buns and Yann's hot dogs as the foods that they miss the most. Pepperoni buns are to north central West Virginia what cheesesteaks are to Philadelphia, and the Colasessano's bun is huge, filled with pepperoni sticks, meat sauce, and drowned in a sea of melted mozzarella cheese. They are even better if you add Oliverio's peppers. If you visit Fairmont, you owe it to yourself to try Colasessano's. read more

A lot of people do not like the foot since the new owners took over several years ago and personally I don't like the country theme to go with Italian food but I always get it as take out anyway. Was there on St. Patrick's day with friends from Tennessee. Ordered pepperoni roll with everything came out with little cheese on top they brought out small cup of sauce and peppers to put on!!!! On the average day I'm not too picky about my pizza just as long as its cooked through. That generalization though stops at Colasessano's door step. Very snide, stuck up staff, and their food is absolutely garbage. I have eaten there a few times in the 5 years I've lived here trying to give them the benefit of doubt hoping for better service and food everytime, yet it always has fallen short of a good meal one way or another. This last Saturday though they have officially lost my business permanently and it has me on a sort of a war path. My ex and I threw our money to gather to get a couple huge overpriced pizzas from them to feed guests at our son's birthday party. Everyone that ate that pizza is now sick with food poisoning. EVERYONE! Not a single person that had so much as taken one bite was not infected. That is 20 people ladies and gentlemen, and as I type this I'm in bed continuously trying not to puke while I take the time to write this. My ex is getting in contact with the health department, and I'm in the works of doing this local review to which right after I'll be contacting the the better business bureau leaving my two cents on this joke of a family ran establishment. The date is Monday, April 8th 2019 and the day the party took place was the 6th which was a Saturday. Forget ever getting my business again something has to be done about this so nobody else gets ill or worse because food poisoning can at extreme levels be deadly, and even the most mild cases can go bad. This "once great" (I've never known it to have been) establishment has my family and friends sick as all hell including myself and I'm just making note to anyone reading this so y'all can be better informed and to keep your eyes sharp if you do decide to risk you time, health, and patients with this place. read more

The Colasessano family must regret selling their name to the new owners. This is not the "real" Colasessano's of famed pizza and pepperoni buns. Our buns were under baked, leaving the bread without crunch or taste. The filling (cheese, peppers, meat sauce) was also forgettable. There's no passion here - the front order taker didn't know what brands of beer were offered and made no move to find out until prompted. the carry-out bag says "the secret's in the dough"...this can only mean the "dough" they're still managing to squeeze from a once-respected restaurant name. read more

I even refrigerated a portion and to my surprise, it took microwave very well with the cheese melted and the bun soft and not squishy. Very disappointed in Colasessano's. We were on our way to a baseball game and ordered a pizza for pick up. We discovered that the game started later than we thought, and also had an additional person with us, so we thought we would just eat in instead. WRONG!!! Colasessano's would not let us eat in since we called in an order, even though we were going to order more food and drinks. I get it if they were busy, but out of all the tables, there were only two of them with customers. The craziest thing I've ever heard and the hostess just kept saying "It's our policy." We are not from that town, or county for that matter, so how would we have known. We do make a trip there once a month or so. Not any more. We were pretty embarrassed and irritated when they told us we couldn't eat there. Not only did they lose the money from the drinks and extra food we would have ordered, but also the pizza we ordered and any future business. Your loss Colasessano's.
