I love their ice cream but I avoid this place after several visits that were understaffed, crowded, and rude. But I got an email advertising free delivery on Fridays. So, on Thursday, I sit down and do an online order, figuring that if I didn't have to go in, I won't be subject to their bad service. The website only gave me the option for Saturday-Thursday delivery, so I resigned myself to paying the $2.99 delivery service. Ordered the small cake at $29.99 for Christmas dinner. Was charged not just for delivery, but the tax was charged 18% for the tax--Maryland sales tax is 6%. I wonder if the Comptroller's office knows about this? Plus a 22% tip since I know delivery is a hard job and I strongly suspect they don't share that fee with their staff. The next day they call me to say I ordered pick-up and when am I coming in? I corrected them to say I ordered delivery, they insist I'm wrong, and to come in for my order. I have proof that it's a delivery order. Please don't urinate on my leg and tell me it's raining. I wait my turn after all the others there ordering, and rather than going back to get my cake, she drags out the manager. Who has a very poor grasp of English. I'm for open borders but customer-facing positions require being fluent in spoken English. I ask that the taxes in excess of the 6% and fees plus my tip be refunded. He pretends not to know what I am talking about. For all I know he doesn't. Then he announces I need to come back Monday at 2 PM (taking time off from work, and get it then. I offered to accept a store credit. He didn't understand me. (Their store is 6 miles away from where I live. I would be out leave time and gas to go over there, and yes, I'm being petty, but I'm not the one who screwed up.) After several go-rounds, I give up. I may have suggested a particular orifice of his that money should go, and I may have suggested the force by which he inserts it. I will be contacting my credit card company to dispute the charge. Who doesn't love cold stone! It is the best ice cream place ever! l am never disappointed when I come here. Of course the cashier could be a little friendly and a bit more patient especially for first timers but you are able sample as many flavors as you'd like. The waffle cones, the tops, the flavors. It's always a great choice for ice cream and in every season too! We went in November thinking they would be closed but happily they were open and ready for our orders! I came into this specific location on 3/28/2021 around 6:40-645 and there was a family of four inside and 2 of the older kids had no masks on and by the law of the United States if you are over the age of 3 you should have on a mask. I think the staff at Cold Stone didn't get that memo. They failed to tell the mom that and continued to serve her and her children with no mask on. Everyone inside of the store was just staring and waiting for the staff to speak up but that did NOT happen. January 2001 was when I first experienced Cold Stone out in San Diego, California. Being an ice cream lover, I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Choose your ice cream, then they mix-in whatever you choose on a cold stone, and if you tip them, they sing. It was amazing! A few years later, I found out they were opening one near me in the Village at Waugh Chapel and I had to introduce my wife, who was my girlfriend at the time, to it. I exclaimed, "They make the ice cream for you on a cold stone. It's soooo amazing!" When we got there and they made her a "signature creation," it was a major *whomp whomp* moment. Since I said that they make it, she imagined they had some liquid cream and like one of those ice cream makers that use rock salt, they would make the ice cream before your eyes. When we got outside, I asked, "Isn't it amazing?!?!" "Ummmm, not really," she replied, "they don't make it; they just mix it." ^_^ So unless you want a major *whomp whomp* overhyped moment like I did, make sure you understand what goes on at Cold Stone. Now that several years have passed and I've had more signature creations than I care to count--though I could probably attribute one to each stretch mark that I have--I think Cold Stone is a solid destination for ice cream, but it doesn't wow me anymore. Food stuffs - for one, the ice cream is really, really sweet, which was a good thing in my fatter days in college. They have numerous flavors and mix-ins, including Butterfingers, blueberries and brownies. You can either make your own creation or choose a signature. My favorite is the Founder's Favorite: sweet cream ice cream, caramel, fudge, brownies, and pecans (I ask for almonds since I don't like pecans). A signature creation will run you $5-$6 for 3 sizes: Like It, Love It, Gotta Have It, and by it, they mean diabetes. So although the employees are pretty friendly about samples and you being indecisive, the people behind you will likely get increasingly indignant as you ask for your 10th sample. Service - they still sing when you tip here but it can be more depressing than an emo song when business is slow. When the line is long, it can move pretty slowly b/c customers tend to be slow in determining what they want. Bloody Finger and Bloody Slow Service The service, typically much better at this establishment, was at a snails' pace this evening. Seriously I could have gone to the grocery store, bought ice cream, driven home, and scooped it into a bowl and eaten it, in less time than it took me to be served. While watching the paint dry with the 4 customers in front of me... I noticed a worker come from the back clutching his finger as if he were in pain. I watched disgusted as he rinsed his bloody finger off in a sink behind the counter. Shortly thereafter he began serving customers. After previously waiting for an agonizing 15 minutes while the 1st worker asks the front client about the mix in technique he would prefer (very smashed, lightly smashed, sprinkled on top, etc)... The line was finally moving now that the other worked wrapped his bloody finger with tape. I guess asking for a glove is passé? The customer in front of me even gave him advice to stop the flow. Had it been his turn to dish up the cream, when I was the next customer, I would have politely declined. Instead I get the original worker who asks me to repeat my orders 5 times. At least in the end, my order was right and my kid was happy. I do however feel bad for the customer behind me who is probably still waiting now... When myself and another guest walked in one of the team members heavily signed as if it were an issue that we came in (young lady with a small fro, white bandana, and glasses). Another young lady (young lady with glasses and a reddish ponytail) took my order and when I asked her how many mix-ins came in a mine size she caught an attitude with me. She shorted me which is why I asked her. When I questioned why I didn't get the amount advertised she angrily replied "well you didn't tell me how many you wanted." COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE! Walked in... they had a group of 3 people another family of 3 and another couple. The two young ladies had attitudes and were not very nice to the customers who were ahead of us. We realized there were only 2 young ladies working and thought maybe they were just overwhelmed. Anyways.. we continued patiently waiting for our turn. When it was our turn we were standing right in front of the counter and the young lady assisted the woman who JUST walked in and jumped the line instead of us. Do not come to this Cold Stone if you want a milkshake! They never have any milk unless you come when they first open. This is my 6th time since November coming in here and being told that they don't have milk. They do not put signs on the door warning customers of it before you wait in their ridiculously long line. A couple months ago, my husband came to this store to get me a milkshake because I had a health condition and couldn't hold down anything solid. Of course they were out of milk. She was very friendly and upbeat ( the reason for the only star I gave). A few moments after a man came and helped me with my order ( he later identified himself as the manager.) He was so nasty to the other employee because he said she put too much ice cream in the like it cup. He took over what she was doing and told her to help the next customers. We thought he was going to complete our order instead he walked away and started making waffle cones. When he finally came back he told me that I could not use my coupon because it wasn't the correct store. When I asked for a manager he said it was him. I asked for the name of a GM,DM or Owner he said there was no one he was in charge. He asked why I needed his name and continued to go back and forth with me after I told him I needed it to include in a review. He was completely rude and disrespectful as he ended the conversation with "I'm not talking to you!". This is not my first time at this Coldstone location but it was definitely my last! He gets his counterpart, who ask me "what do you want?"...... did the first gentleman tell 'you' nothing of my request. I then proceed to as the gentleman can we meet my requested cake needs, and I'm told it will take 24 hours to produce "a cake" I'm general... wonderful. It's literally a 27 hour window... he then tells me, "that might not be enough time".... What??!? He begins to become impatient at me highlighting the time constraint that HE told ME was their standard. After moving further along, he ask me "what kind of ice cream do you want?" I ask him "can I know what cake you have available first, in preset to pair with the ice cream?" He tells me 'I can't bypass choosing the ice cream'.... What the hell... Being the customer, I ask if they have Marble cake, he tells me he doesn't know what marble cake is.... Who don't know this. we came here sometime in the evening and it was just chaotic from the moment we walked inside. there were a bunch of people inside and everyone was just standing, waiting for their turn (which i didn't mind, since it's cold stone and everyone wants to customize their ice cream and whatnot.) so when it was our turn, we were barely at the end of the ice cream selections and the person assisting us asked us what we wanted. ma'am, i can barely see the ice cream selections let alone all the toppings that y'all offer. it definitely felt RUSHED and that was something that immediately turned me off. on top of it, the woman in front of me was ordering like 10 different orders so it just made the whole time there chaotic. we did get our ice creams and everything was good, but i was disappointed that i had to basically spit out my order in the span of two seconds because you could see the pressure they were under. i'm only giving them two stars because cold stone ice cream is always good. hopefully they find a better rhythm where customers come first vs getting everyone out quickly. read more

What a disappointment!! This is the second time I've tried Cold Stone and this will be the last. Asked for a Cookie Sundae and was told I had to get vanilla ice cream or any plain ice cream. If I wanted a speciality ice cream, they would charge for two different items. Now, I've been to cold stone in College park and ordered the same thing and was not charge separately.
