We happened to be in the area and looked up the cafe and what they had to offer. It was a beautifully decorated place that once was a bank. The service was excellent and the food even better. This place goes over and beyond. My wife and I met her brothers and their wives for dinner her wife's birthday was coming up and she didn't know they were going to join us. The service although very busy was very very professional - ( Kelly) did a great job. - We stayed too long and I should've got a little loud, but they were very accommodating. I had a special cake ordered that very few people anywhere in this part of the country but know how to make because it's a Indonesian cake. It was done to perfection by a lady named Kate I can't say enough kind things about the restaurant and the people in a very stressful time during this pandemic. I was blown away. read more

We called for a reservation on Christmas Eve day three weeks ago and asked for a booth. When we arrived, on time, for our reservation, we were seated in a space by the drink station/ and dishes. We walked by multiple open booths and tables. When we asked about moving our seats, the hostess just walked away. We we're ready to order and we're informed they were out of quiche, the special of the day...it was 12:10. They had been opened for an hour. When we questioned them, they said " they had sold out because so many customers were buying wholes quiches for Christmas morning ." So apparently, the people that come to eat do not count. Then our server disappeared for fifteen more minutes. I ordered the tasteless chicken salad, another person in our party of four ordered a very small salad. We all wanted the quiche. Our service was mediocre at best, and when we left, we passed more empty tables and booth. Not the Christmas Eve experience we expected. read more

Stopped for lunch after a Drs appointment on Millers Lane (North Dayton). Reservations recommended, & well worth it! We actually didn't have reservations so we set at the bar, and I'm so glad we did. This was our first experience eating here, and it was wonderful! Beer cheese soup as a starter. Homemade and delicious. Crab cake sandwich was excellent. My trip here started in one of the nicest bathrooms I think I've ever been in. A walk through a picture perfect cafe, to the hostess who sat us outside in, which was just wonderful, so cute and comfortable, a perfect breeze, beautiful view. We had the huge burgers with pimento cheese.. hands down the best burger I have ever eaten, I honestly think about it most days in the weeks since I have been there. After we finished they brought a little cherry cake drowning in butter sauce on the house because it was our first time there.. it was just amazing, so decadent. The staff could not have been more friendly, they treat their customers really well. Literally everything about our time here was sheer perfection, pricier than places I would normally pick, but I am so glad I went here, it was 100% worth the price. read more

First I have to say I love the severs here. I have been coming at least once a week for a while now, we love the food here. However tonight I got a phone call from them about 20 min before my reservation and was told that my doctors note which excludes me from wearing a mask was no longer recognized there. I explained how my note was on file with the county health department. They told me if I don't wear a mask I cannot eat there. As I had friends coming I went tonight but sadly told our favorite servers that we won't be back. The fact that they called me and told me I was not welcome without a mask even with my Doctors note really upset me. I'll enjoy other places to eat instead. It's sad that they chose this way to lose a very regular and loyal customer. I guess I eat more at Harrison's. read more

We discovered the Coldwater Cafe on a house hunting trip in Tipp City. What a fantastic place! Over our first 5 visits, we have had: Muscles Sambuca - Yummy! The Sambuca sauce is perfect! 20 oz Porterhouse: The flavor is perfect and cooked perfectly (medium rare) Filet Mignon: Again, cooked perfect and tasty. The Jasmine rice side is seasoned just right. Shrimp and Brie Pasta: Yum, yum, yum. Baked Artichoke Dip with Pita Bread Chips: The Pita bread chips are seasoned with garlic and compliment the artichoke dip. Shrimp Cocktail: 5 HUGE shrimp (an oxymoron?) Cafe Burger: Great tasting burger. The Frozen Peanut Butter Pie: Photo posted and delicious. They have a nice wine selection that is changing over the next couple of weeks. The service provided during our visits has been impeccable. The staff is very professional, courteous, and attentive. What a great place in the heart of Tipp City! Happened to stumble on this place recently (thanks to Yelp of course!) and I was pleasantly surprised. The menu is awesome, featuring some really interesting items that you won't find at many places. I can't wait to come back in the future, unfortunately making an hour drive is a little difficult to do on a regular basis. The service here is great and the building is super neat. We walked in at 6:30 for a table for 4 people and she said let me look for when I would have a reservation available.... well we were walking in and anticipated to have a wait but she kept saying only 8:30 pm available and it felt like she was just waiting for me to walk away. If I could give Coldwater six stars, I would. After reading the few complaints that are here, it is apparent to me that those people have very little exposure to fine dining. First of all, the service here is excellent. I come here about once per year, when I am home. In addition, my step-mom and Dad are regulars, so any time I go with them, the people recognize them and call them by their first names. In fact, they are so good that they bring my folks' drinks before even ordering them. Moreover, though I'm here just once per year (because I don't live in Ohio), the wait staff remembers my name. The owner and former executive chef Nick Hoover is always out and amongst the customers. I saw him bussing tables as well. He spoke with and recognized me, though I've not been here for about two years. The new executive chef, Katy Fischer, picked up right where Nick left off with very fresh and well-made food. The food is impeccable. I have never had a bad meal. My folks have never had a bad meal. The food is on par with anything I have eaten anywhere (what would one expect from a restaurant whose owner graduated from Johnson and Wales?). Today, in particular, I had a wonderful acorn squash soup for an appetizer along with the artichoke dip. The grilled pita that came with the dip was roasted with brushed on olive oil and salt and pepper. I had the feta cheese pasta with grilled chicken. I am very particular about my pasta because I have to have it al dente. I know fresh pasta when I eat it because when it sits around for any time, it ends up mushy and sticky. It was neither. For dessert, I had the coffee cheese cake with Baileys mousse. The mousse contained copious amounts of Baileys. The coffee cheesecake was quite "coffee-ish." My dad had the "turf and turf" which was scallops and Chilean sea bass. My step-mom had mussels, which were excellent (my dad liked them but doesn't normally like mussels). Finally, the wine selection is great with an ample selection of the more exotic (Chardonnay aged in bourbon barrels) and traditional. The beer selection includes the typical main stream beers and a number of taps and bottles of some good local, craft beers. If you live in Dayton, you need to make this one if your regular places. If you happen to travel to Dayton, you need to visit here. read more

The service was excellent and the space itself is very fun. I brought clients from a business meeting here and the staff was hyper professional. The food was excellent. I had the filet mignon and it was cooked exactly to order. The wine and beer selection is decent (nothing crazy). I would definitely come back for another visit soon! read more

The pork belly sandwich was delicious the pumpkin bisque was amazing and my wife got the crab cake sandwich was very tasty and delicious. We then ended with the English tea cake and Nick's famous carrot cake it was the best cake I've ever had. If you are ever in the area this is a must stop. read more

I have not ate meat in 3 years and ate their halibut because it sounded so good. I trusted they knew fish and seafood, and they did! People were nice, beautiful atmosphere, we were dressed in fishing outfits from fishing Great Miami earlier, and treated with same respect as well dressed people. Ate the artichoke dip, tuna tartar and two of their salads! Amazing ..... and we scored free dessert! Vault from an old bank in their that you can eat at, romantic and fun band by the bar. Walked in and the bar is very nice, definitely the place to hang out before dinner. Had lunch in the old bank vault, 18" solid walls and no cell phone signal, total bliss away from electronics. Our food was delicious, the sauce on the crab cakes was unbelievably good with a hint of spice, the chicken salad sandwich with side salad was perfect. Service was attentive, polite and totally there to make you enjoy your time, absolutely super. It was nice to eat somewhere that was good after writing Coldwater Cafe a really great review a few months ago by mistake when I reviewed a cafe in Waynesville, so I was not disappointed! read more

The drink/wine menu is - - wait for it - - very, very good. The food and beverage selections are more limited than many large restaurants, but this is a SMALL restaurant.
