Been here a few times now. Got wings the first visit and have had to order them every time since. These are the best wings in Syracuse! You have to wait a while for them, but boy is it worth it. My daughter and I agree, these are the best hands down! The other fare, is so-so. Even their mashed potatoes and gravy were not good. Seems difficult to mess that up, right? If you grew up on the west side, this was a staple. Still is, and visiting Syracuse, it's an easy find. It's neighborhood bar that worth visiting. Steeped in tradition of the quintessential Irish pub, this Tipperary hill , legend is still worth the ride from wherever you are. Great beer selection and well prepared pub foods from fish and chips, to stews and sandwiches are more than satisfying. This place is ambiance central. From the cute little leprechaun door to the stained glass windows it is far from your cookie cutter Irish pub and definitely has more of a restaurant feel than some Irish joints that make the food feel like it's second fiddle to the bar. Ten of us met up this weekend for lunch and a bit of rambunctious at times chatting. Reservations were made so there was a section set aside from us. Our waitress was kind enough to separate our checks out and took our drink and food menus promptly. Refills on drinks were a little slow but if that's my only complaint about service you're doing pretty damn good. As for the food everything I tried was very good. We ordered a handful of apps and I was able to try some hot wings, spinach dip, loaded potato skins, and onion rings. Everything was prepared and seasoned quite well and the serving sizes were on the larger size. For lunch Dave got bangers and mash which was delicious and I got the Guinness burger. It was a medium burger on top of a latke with some delicious cheese sauce on top. I would totally eat that again. After food we sat around for at least an hour chatting and never once did we feel like they wanted us to leave. Granted it wasn't a full house so there were places for folks to be seated so we weren't costing our waitress any money. I hear they have an Irish brunch I will have to return for that. Ugh... First time trying this restaurant. Had a hankering for that great March meal- corned beef & cabbage. I ordered it as takeout and what I received was a small, dry slab resembling thick jerky, too tough to chew corned beef, a small sliver of half-cooked cabbage, and a large amount of 'al dentè' carrots & potatoes. I've been here many times before, but never to eat. This was my first time having an early dinner there. I ordered a Reuben sandwich, which came with a side of fries. I also went for their specialty drink in honor of his months very well known Irish holiday ( St. Patrick's Day) It was quite a delicious iced coffee with mint, milk, and ofcourse vodka! It's really sweet so it was a bit hard for me to drink all of it, I'm more of a bitter drink lover. Back to the food, everyone was very satisfied with everything we ordered. I enjoyed my Reuben sandwich with russian dressing as my cheat meal of the weekend. I went for a late lunch, love the interior, ordered fish and chips, the fish was ok, no seasoning whatsoever, the fish was not crispy it was soggy to say the least. It came with coleslaw. the coleslaw came in a condiment cup , I give you props on the chips, I ordered ice tea which wasn't very good. There was a odor when you walked in. The place could use a detail cleaning, the bottom of the table was grimy and let's not talk about the floor that could use a detail scrubbing. Attempted to see a Irish band today. The Blarney Rebel band was scheduled to start at 4 pm as stated on Coleman's web site. Well I guess soccer on tv is more important than live music as the band was made to wait until AFTER the soccer game finished before starting their set. Look, I'm glad there was a crew of soccer fans in the bar but when it's stated the band starts at 4pm then they should start at 4 pm! Or better yet leave the game on tv , turn the volume off and start the music at the scheduled time. read more

its too bad that this is not a good place anymore. Dirty floors, under the tables hasn't been cleaned in a long time. Tables are so sticky and worn. A good neighbor hood stop but don't bother eating. Fish taco special was fair at best. Corned beef sandwiches were very average with thin thin thin slices of not true corned beef. Waitress doing her best as nearby table sent back their fish saying it spelled "putrid" That kind of ruined our experience. Bar crowd popular spot to land. It is one of my favorite places on the planet. The tin ceiling and ornate woodwork compliment the Irish pub atmosphere. The stain glass brings in a colorful, fun mood. The on tap beers includes Harp and Smithwicks. We stopped in for a late lunch on Friday. Service was exceptional from our quick seating , bar service, and meals. Have been spending some time in Syracuse visiting family. I must say they do a great job taking precautions during the pandemic. There are signs all over reminding people to wear their masks and the staff reminds you to wear it and spaces groups out. I've been a vegetarian for many years and often find that bars do not have many options. I had the beyond burger on a pretzel bun which was sooo good. They have great sides, salads, and appetizers that are meatless as well. Alexis was such a sweet waitress and answered my many questions about the menu. She was very helpful. OOF: tough experience at a classic place I brought some out towners. Two stars for nostalgia and atmosphere. Fish and chips served in ...some kind of fried bread bag? Honestly it looked like a deep fried burrito. Fish inside was fine, but the worst presentation I've ever seen and I was still hungry after eating the meager fish inside. Other diner: ordered pastrami, no Swiss. Pastrami was served with Swiss. Replacement took 20 minute, was served totally overdone and was inedible. Removed from bill. If you're in Syracuse and you're looking for an Irish Pub, especially in the Tipperary Hill neighborhood. You definitely won't be without options. There were a lot more in years past. But one place that always holds tried and true is Coleman's. It's the quintessential idea of what you would think of when someone says "Irish". Coleman's is on my old stomping grounds as I grew up in this neighborhood right on S. Lowell Ave. So I'm no stranger to it's exterior charm. With its phone boxes in human and leprechaun sizes to even having it's open leprechaun sized door (which sadly over the years has been damaged and stolen a few times). They have huge block parties and a green beer fair and festival around St. Patrick's Day. Peter Coleman is a name that a lot of people aren't unfamiliar with in the area. He treats his neighbors to a part quite frequently and is actually a really nice guy. I've had the pleasure of meeting the man. Today I was meeting a bunch of friends for a lunch get together that we do quite a bit lately. And we were gonna go elsewhere when someone suggested here and I pushed for it. I was shown to my parties seating area quickly and the server was quite friendly. Immediately offering me a drink. They have Saranac Bottles root beer here. Easily one of my favorites a local craft soda, I was all for it. After everyone made it there we had our orders taken. First things to come out were the appetizers. I went with the twice baked potato skins. Which weren't at all what I was expecting. I mean, they were good. I just probably wouldn't have ordered them if I'd known what they'd be. Three large halves of russet potato with a chunky potato mash pipped into the skins served with sour cream on the side. Not what I think of when I want a potato skin. But also quite tasty, So a happy mistake at that. For my entree, was the whole reason I pushed to come here. Bangers and mash, a classic English/ Irish dish. Bangers are basically a sausage. I've seen them done with lamb and pork and veal and a variety of other ways. These were pork if memory serves here. A huge helping of delicious golden potato mash and a hearty onion gravy. I've had this at several different pubs in the past. But in my opinion, they possibly have some of the best I've ever eaten here. Which there was actually a British woman at the table next to us who we ended up talking to at one point that said the exact same thing. If someone who lived where these come from says it's the best she's ever had. Well I'd take that to the bank. The bangers have amazing flavor and a terrific snap when you bite into the casing. The potatoes were creamy and smooth and the gravy was packed with onion flavor without having too much onion chunk in them. Perfection. I ended up trying a bit of their "Guinness Burger" as that's what Naomi got. Which is a burger with a cheese "sauce" on top of it. But instead of a bun. It's served on a potato pancake/Latke type thing. Which is absolutely brilliant. And as well was delicious. The only thing I didn't like was I tried one of her onion rings. And the batter had waaaaay to much beer flavor to it. And myself not being much of a beer drinker. That was just a flavor I wasn't fond of. But, I didn't order them so I didn't have to eat them. Just the one I tried. All in all. A wonderful ambience in the restaurant, terrific service, Amazing food and selection there of. A great place to have a lunch with friends or go on a date. This is one of the most popular bars in Syracuse and especially on Tipp Hill (Irish bar). Usually it is too packed for me to want to enjoy. They often have live music. They have a sit-down restaurant with a decent menu. My favorite meal is the Beef O'Flaherty. It is thinly sliced beef with blue cheese on top of a piece of toast baked as a casserole type of dish. It is very rich and something I enjoy once a year on a cold winter's day. They often have outdoors events and seems to be the place to be in Syracuse. One that in general, I like to avoid. read more

Coleman's is a classic tipp hill bar known for its bar and big parties. As far as it's good though it is sub par. Food is bland and boring. Also their upstairs room you can rent out far parties really needs an upgrade. I was surprised how run down it is for the price it costs. read more

Well I've been here numerous times and some times on St. Patrick's Day and today was no different. Lots of people and even then they manage to serve up their famous (*as far as I'm concerned) Pub fare. I had the Beef O'Flaherty. (My favorite dish here!)It's a generous portion of slow cooked roast beef over a piece of hard roll drenched with their homemade bleu cheese sauce then it's put under the broiler & served with Irish Fries! I always ask for the malt vinegar because it just goes great on those Irish Fries!!! (Maybe it's the Buffalo in me for liking that)(oh, Irish Fries - they are potatoes cut into discs and fried to perfection.) The wife had the Guinness Beef stew (which she loves) which comes in a bread bowl that is toasted. Tonight it was a bit over toasted but due to the way they were turning the tables over I'm not going to hold that against them! Our waitress was very friendly and filled our water glasses 3 times at a minimum. Authentic Irish Pub with fun design details, good atmosphere, and pleasant service. Had the Beef on Weck and it was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked roast beef served with a generous portion of horseradish, served on a warm toasty bun that had just the right amount of salt and caraway seeds and a ramekin of tasty au jus to dip it all in. I little slice of Ireland right here in upstate NY. Went to Coleman's on Monday night with Melissa Leigh and Joey B.. I've never been to Ireland but I have family there and family here from there, but places like this make me want to go. I want to drink my arse off in a REAL Irish pub, not just an authentic feeling one. The pub is in a very Irish neighborhood of Syracuse called Tipp Hill? There are shamrocks adorning most of the nice houses in the surrounding area, in May. There are upside down traffic lights with the Green bulb on top! There are side by side phone booths, one normal size and one about waist high for the "Wee People" to use! There are two entrances, one normal door and one tiny door just for our Leprechaun friends! The bar itself is nicely decorated with rich, dark woods, and lots of beautiful stained glass dividers. I did wonder about such fragile looking decor mixing with a rowdy , drinking Irish crowd. Our server was Meghan, a beautiful blond lass, who took terrific care of us. I had Fish and Chips that was delicious. Missy had a Chicken Pub Pie that looked great, and she said tasted as good as it looked. Joey B., who is half Irish and half Puerto Rican, gobbled up a Reuben that he also raved about. We browsed the gift shop on the way out, where they have a nice selection of T-shirts, nick knacks and cool Pint Glasses, etc.. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time here, 6 thumbs up! read more

Beer Battered Onion Rings (5 stars): Awesomeness! We had to get another order because they were so good! Spinach Artichoke Dip (2 stars): The chips were straight out of a Tostito's bag. But who am I to expect fresh tortilla chips at an Irish Pub... Anyways the dip was boring, but that's usually the case for this appetizer right? French Onion Soup (4 stars): Very good! Pungent swiss cheese. You can choose soup or salad with your meal, and this is definitely the best choice. Ribeye Steak w/ Bleu Cheese (3 stars): The steak was perfectly cooked rare, it just wasn't the best steak. It was actually better cooked medium, and I'm a "Still Moo'ing" kind of girl. Bangers and Mash (5 stars): I hate to admit I thought this would be incredibly bland. I mean, sausages and potatoes w/ gravy? I wouldn't have ordered it without the multiple recommendations and they were accurate. I really don't like mashed potatoes but these were amazing. And the sausages in onion-y gravy were heavenly. This dish is the reason to go here. Some Forgettable Dessert (?): Minty thing. Guinness on tap = excellent! Atmosphere (4 stars): There is an old-fashioned phone booth out front, and a mini "leprechaun" phone booth next to it. Coleman's is billed as an Authentic Irish Pub. For one thing, it definately has the decor. The rich darkwoods all over the enormous, wrap-around bar are impressive. But Coleman's doesn't deserve the word Pub in their name. This is a bar with a restaurant. On any Friday or Saturday night, Coleman's is packed with twenty-somethings from the entire Syracuse metro area. The one goal here is to drink your arse off, and plenty people do it. Unfortunately, in can be really difficult to strike up conversation here, as everyone travels in cliques. If you show up late in the evening and are sober than most, you can wander the establishment almost undetected and observe the crowd, (bring your people-watching skills!) Mostly it is small groups of friends huddled together, nursing each others enebriated state. No, a pub requires more than just decor, it requires the atmosphere... and that means people, conversation, etc. Try holding a conversation with a bartender at Colemans on a Friday or Saturday. Unless you are a pretty young thing with cleavage hanging out, the publican is going to gladly serve your beverage and then move on to the next paying customer. Coleman's also participates in some of the strangest pasttimes. For example, "Green Beer Sunday" is when a tanker truck of green beer is delivered to the pub. They set up an enormous tent outside so people can consume outdoors even in winter. And don't forget St. Paddy's Day. This place will have a line several hundred long out the door, all day and night long. Granted, if you visit Syracuse, you must pay a visit to Coleman's. But it's never going to qualify as your local pub. read more

I normally am a huge fan of this place. Tonight however this one staff member was so rude. He claimed he was the manager and his name was Matt. I walked toward the stairs just to get some air when the establishment was crowded. Instead of asking what I was doing the manager yelled at me to get away from the stairs and said I wasnt allowed there. Meanwhile I was just at the bottom of the stairs trying to get air due to my asthma. I had no intention of going further upstairs and when I tried to say that the man tried to kick me out. I understand it was crowded but i've never been treated so poorly for just trying to breath. I hope this mans behavior does not reflect on all of Coleman's read more
