Actual movers were fantastic. Quick and efficient. When I called to get a quote, I explained I had my apartment and then a storage unit to move. After giving all the information, apartment address and storage unit address, I was given a quote. Come the day of the move, the storage unit is not on the order. The amazing movers I had scrambled with their captain to make time and got it done but it ran me an additional 400.00. I don't have an issue paying more. I understand I had to different pick ups. But to get all that info from me and then just not add on my order upset me. And that also means my quote was wrong. Wish I just had the number to the actual movers. I have family moving this month and they reached out to me about who to use and I told them to avoid this place. DO NOT USE COLLEGE HUNKS AUSTIN. They sent me to uhaul to buy our own padding and boxes and destroyed so much of our property. My very expensive speakers were shrink wrapped and then thrown in loose. every lamp I own was destroyed. They left items loose; they packed breakables with heavy items that smashed them, paintings were left with no protection, smashed electronics, missing items and when I sent them the prices for the destroyed property, they offered me to pay by weight an amount of money nowhere near what the replacement cost alone would be. They were "generous" with a 500 dollar offer when my broken subwoofer alone is several thousand dollars. I would estimate they did about 5-7K dollars in damage to my property and offered me a few hundred for the damage caused by their horrendous packing. read more

When I had a second franchise of College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving to unload and reassemble the furniture, they found that the bed rails from my father's antique brass bed were not packed with the rest of the bed. I contacted the Austin franchise, and the response I was given by Ciro Lucero, their General Manager, was that "all parts were left on-site or put where they needed to be". Basically, they said we either packed them or we didn't. Ciro made no attempt to rectify the situation. Do not hire this company to move anything of value. read more

I recently used College Hunks for a move (after using them previously) and was quoted a timeline/price range. The move ended up being double to triple the quoted time and price. I was severely disappointed and wanted to discuss with the company further. I have made multiple calls and sent multiple emails in attempt to resolve my concerns. The Company has made zero effort to reach back out to me. Although the movers were nice, doubling or tripling the time/price range is ridiculous. I would give them zero starts If I could - ** DO NOT USE THEM ** Two guys came for my move. One was good the other was a young kid about 18 or so that wasn't able to have a conversation with me, dropped several things and would have hit several walls and ceilings with my furniture if it wasn't for me stopping him. The main issue however was that they broke a very old and irreplaceable glass table top. I told them about how fragile it was and they just threw it in a TV bag when I wasn't looking. Now when this showed up 5 miles down the road broken the good guy was very apolgetic and said that they were going to replace it for me. Now here's where I recieved possibly the worst customer service I've ever had. I was given a number to call to make a claim. So I called it only to be told I needed email the claim in. So I did that. After several days with no response I had to chase it up and was told that I the call center couldn't connect me to the Austin location but would send them a message. Two days later I got a call from the "manager" telling me they were looking into quotes for the glass and would get back to me. This is the last time the manager called me. After several phonecalls over the next 2 weeks no one returned my calls. After speaking to the call center they told me the manager had responded internally to the messages saying he would call me but never did. I eventually texted the "good" guy that came cos he sent me photos of the glass at the time and he said that "Ciro" the manager told him he was going to "deal with it tmw". He didn't call me and only emailed me 3 days later to offer me a compensation amount. When your business is based on trust a great way to ruin it is to completely ingore your customers when you break their stuff and avoid calling them. Great job! I will never ever use College Hunks again and I will be telling all my friends and family about my experience. Mistake happen and things get broken. This is unavoidable in this business. How you handle it, how you show customers that you care and they matter. How you keep them informed. This is makes all the difference and Ciro failed massively here. When a customer leaves 3 messages asking for you to call them with an update you've already failed. When choose not to call and email them instead it's like a kick in the face telling me I do not matter. Now I eventually got a call from the owner of this franchise who first told me that he was mad at Ciro for offering me the $550 compensation and usually they would just base it off weight. Considering that the final cost of the replacement glass cost me $650 I am now $100 out of pocket and their company policy would have actually made me over $500 out of pocket. Long story short if you use college, Hunks and they break your stuff which is highly likely you'll be left holding the bag for the cost of the damage. IN SHORT: this College Hunks team was completely incompetent, had no regard for my time, and displayed an obvious lack of work-ethic. STEER CLEAR especially if someone named Ash is assigned to lead your move. (OVER 8 HOURS FOR ONE BEDROOM MOVE) This was the worst moving experience I've ever had, and I've used a handful of moving companies including CH. The lead (Ash) called me in the morning and informed me that one mover didn't show up for work and asked if he and his team (Isaiah, shoutout - he did his best to offer good service, despite the poor leadership he was provided) could arrive early. When they arrived, it became clear pretty quickly that Ash has zero sense of urgency, which was odd to me considering that my last move took less than three hours with College Hunks, moving the exact same things, the exact same distance away, and I didn't have to help at all. I attempted to encourage Ash on two separate occasions to use both elevators, to allow me to help move my belongings, and to please keep in mind (after 4 hours of loading) that we were very quickly approaching the time allocated that morning when he arrived. He was dismissive and condescending in his response. I observed him on the phone, using time to teach Isaiah how to wrap furniture (which seemed unnecessary), wouldn't let Isaiah take trips down to the truck on his own or help him with the dolly, and spending A LOT of time joking and messing around. At one point, I watched Ash jump into the bin, and Isaiah playfully pushed him down the hallway. This was when I decided to start recording what I was observing to report to management. - He was also carrying his energy drink in one hand while sloppily and slowly pushing the dolly with another hand. - He was on his phone. - He told Isaiah "thanks for your help but it's better if I can just do it on my own to get into my flow" while obviously struggling to pull any piece of furniture or box with the dolly up the stairs. Almost every time he used the dolly, he either had to readjust every three steps or something fell off. Again, I have never seen movers move so slowly. It was as if he had no idea what he was doing, but had no interest in accepting help or seeking a more time-efficient way of getting the job done. Very controlling and very inefficient. You would think that there would be a requirement of lifting a certain amount of weight and/or having some practice with a dolly and other moving equipment to be hired at CH. You would also think basic bodily awareness and appropriate level of fitness would be obvious prerequisites for being hired as a professional mover, let alone being assigned as a Lead. When we got to the new apartment, I began running up and down the stairs carrying as much as I could (I am five feet tall and 100 pounds), because at this point we were well past the time allocated and I was concerned he would try and charge me for his bad time management. The unload, despite Ash's inability to maneuver the dolly independently, took about an hour and a half with my help. They started at 9:15am and left my apartment at 4:30pm. They left my apartment in complete disarray, no furniture in the right rooms, and I was left to unload and unwrap everything on my own. One of the legs on my dresser was broken as well, which I was not notified of. I had to sleep on the floor that night because my bed was taken apart. When I refused to pay over the quote I was given that morning, Ash interrupted me before I could finish my calm explanation, and was still in my kitchen when he said "I'm not leaving until you pay the full amount". As a young woman who lives alone, I considered this to be a threatening way to behave and I felt unsafe with him in my apartment. After talking to the general manager (Ciro), he agreed this was not acceptable behavior and that he would honor the quote and "sit down to have a talk with Ash." At the end of the day, I still paid over $700 and the job wasn't even complete, my dresser is broken, my bed wasn't put together, and I had to call a friend to help me move the boxes and furniture that were in the wrong rooms that were too heavy for me to move on my own. read more

I had a terrible experience with this company. I made my appointment, listed everything I needed hauled away and the floor I was on. I received my pricing and booked the service. Once the movers arrived they looked at everything I had. Then they told me that it would be extra for them to move my couch and loveseat. I explained that the couch and loveseat were listed and included in the price I was given. They wanted to add an extra $300 to my total. So I ended up having to call another service to come and haul away my furniture at the last minute. I will not use this service again. read more

This experience was horrendous. They waited until the last minute to take my washer and dryer (which were the first items I pointed out). One of the movers said he'd move it the next day as a side gig, that was a lie and he never got back to me. They broke my $450 entertainment center and responded with a $52 refund, straight up disrespectful! I requested that they at least refund me HALF and still no dice. I paid $800+ for these guys to break my entertainment center and find someone else to finish the move (washer/dryer). I will NEVER use this company again. College hunks was super friendly and helped us navigate the different options. Their pricing was amazing! $130/hour on weekdays and $150/hour weekends, minimum of 2 hours plus truck fee (ours was $130) and your time used is prorated in 15 minute intervals. Joe and Tyler were SUPER efficient! They had our whole 2 bedroom loaded up in just under 2 hours and got everything unloaded and helped by organizing which room it went to! Nothing damaged or lost and I didnt have to do any heavy lifting. Definitely recommend! read more

Communicate with scheduler could have been much better. I requested two guys for the minimal belongs I had and got three assigned to me. They tried to charge me $225 per hour for three guys but I protested and they took away one guy. I was also not informed that Friday was not a weekday rate and is 10 dollars more per hour than weekdays. I also was not informed that the fee to use a credit card is 2.5 % of the total charge. For my move that was over $15. I could have had a certified check with the exact amount but who is going to have that???? I was charged 10 for the plastic to cover the mattress and an additional 10 for the blanket and shrink wrap for one dresser. Overall I would say this company nickels and dimes the customer. They are a big national company with lots of appt setters working from home. A lot is not retained by these appt setters....obviously. read more

The movers were very nice, but the service & cost was expensive & urgency did not seem to be a skill or priority for them. The move took 1.75 hours and that's what I was told I would be charged for, I just looked at the receipt and saw I was charged for 2 hours, which was an extra $35. I was originally quoted for 3 hours, but I explained to the lady on the phone that she misheard me and that I only had 4 boxes not 15. she did not fix the quote to a lower time estimate. It feels like her quoting extra time allowed the movers to take extra time. I've hired 4 other moving companies through my past moves and have always had way more stuff than I had this move as Indownsized significantly from a 3 bdrm to 1, yet this is the most money I've ever paid. There were 2 movers, one was small and skinny, one was large but not muscular. It took almost 45 minutes to load less than 20 items (all but two could be lifted individually) in the truck, when the truck was steps from the front door (and all items were lined by the door). When loading, the movers spent a lot of time in the truck, which I thought was them being careful about placing things, but the timing just didn't make sense. Then, when we got to the drop-off location, they were even less strategic about time. At one point one of the two movers was carrying a single chair down the hallway instead of using a dolly or piling items. The whole reason I hired movers was so they could move things in bulk, I have never seen movers carry one item at a time like that. There was no urgency until I told the guy I would personally carry the chair because they were taking too long... the next load they finally came up with 3 items on a trolley. I did not plan to leave a bad review or be mean to the movers but seeing the charge for an extra 15 minutes really put me over the edge when this realistically should have been less than a 90 minute move. Then when I sent this review to the moving company after the move, no one bothered to respond to me. I absolutely would not recommend this service. read more

I am not sure why you were not present at the origin during the move or at the destination. Please understand that clients are supposed to be present at both the origin and destination during the entire move. At the destination, there was no one to show the hunks where to put your items. You claim to have an estimate that states $2100. Please kindly provide the estimate. I can assure you that you are looking at something else. Please find attached the estimate I sent to your realtor. The hunks (movers) worked very hard to move your items. They worked for more than 10 hours and used two 26 ft trucks to move your items. One of the trucks even had a roof damaged on one of the trees by your house. It cost about $6500 to fix this roof damage. Unfortunately, we cannot refund you any money because extensive work was performed to move your items. We did not receive any payment directly from you. Trying to resolve issues with threats of going to BBB, Google, and proceedings is not the right approach ma'am. You said none of your items were broken or damaged before the move. Please find attached damaged items the hunks took at the address of origin. I have text messages sent to your realtor to show proof of pre-existing damages to your items. A good example are the picture frames you accused us of damaging, whereas the attached pictures show otherwise. Dear Mrs./Ms. Levy, I am sorry the move did not go as we both expected. Having you or someone present (which is what was requested) during the move could have made a huge difference. OMG...what a pleasant experience with this company! Right from the initial phone conversation with Matthew, it was pleasure! I have been stressed all week, and Matthew calmed me down with nice demeanor! He talked me thru the process. They had time available the same day to come out to my house. I had a charity company come our earlier, and because it was not in "perfect" condition, they would not take some items. My husband and I are moving and needed this furniture out soon. So, contacted his person in the field, and with in an hour he called me and said he was an hour away, and asked if that was ok. I agreed. When they arrived, I was greeted by John, who was so nice! I told him of the items I needed removed, and he said himself and Louis could handle it. Within 30 minutes, the items were on the truck. Thank you guys for handling this so quickly! Put moving tape all over my furniture. DESTROYING and stripping the surfaces. All of my furniture is scratched. They literally threw everything in the truck on top of each other. They just wanted out, no regard to protect my belongings whatsoever. We scheduled an unload only. After requesting an update to arrival time, the crew called and said they edge 20 mins away. After 50 mins, I called back asking if they got lost and they said no, they had to take their lunch first. They were 15 mins away. They showed up and the workers, were professional and polite. We were contracted for an hour and they had the U-Haul unloaded in about 40 mins. After handing them both a cash tip, one proceeded to reprimand me about the amount of tip, stating it wasn't good enough for the job they did and for the amount of money they saved me (there was no discount for finishing under an hour). There is no way to speak to the local office to file a complaint. Worst service ever. read more

We requested "junk removal" for our single bed. On the phone, on two different days, my husband and I were both given quotes of $129. The two guys had to call their boss several times to figure out how to move a bed. The final call to the boss is where he told them it would be $50 extra because the mattress was soiled. Duh, it's junk. I was determined to get my money back, mostly because it was wrong for them to pull that crap at the last minute. After 5 days of emailing, calling, and leaving messages, I was told today that the charge was a city of Austin charge. DO NOT use these movers - absolutely awful experience. To start, within not even 5 minutes of showing up, one of the guys implied that he was hoping I might have some drugs for him and that I should "come through". The same individual then also made it very clear that he "really needed a good tip" from me at the end. Then, halfway through the move, one of the other guys ended up having to leave because he was throwing up. During the move, they failed to secure 2 of the 3 pullout drawers within my $450 wooden TV stand and, sure enough, those ended up shattered all over the floor of the truck during transit (not repairable). The back of my swivel desk chair that I use to work from home was also snapped (also not repairable). The glass dome of my torch lamp was also shattered and ended up all over the bed of the truck. Also, during the initial load up I walked up to the truck to load something and saw one of the guys FaceTiming/laughing - unprofessional to say the least when I'm paying by the hour for the service ($155/hour to be exact). When I initially booked over the phone, I was also assured by the individual I spoke with that they would honor the 10% discount I was told I'd receive due to being referred to them by my apartment locator. But then when I went to pay out, they refused to honor it. So they put me on the phone with their "manager" who said he had instead approved a $25 credit to make up for destroying over $500 worth of my property. When they arrived, I was also informed it was this team's 4th move of the day which explains why some of the guys looked exhausted upon arrival. Given this was a pay by the hour gig, I knew I was about to get shafted. For what it's worth, not all of this crew was an issue. The young hispanic guy (didn't speak English) was great, no complaints. As was the other guy (had a ponytail) that showed up to replace the one who quit halfway through. Can't say the same about anyone else. Completely unprofessional all around, and instead of unpacking my things right now, I'm writing this review in the hopes that others avoid going through a similar nightmare. I used this company for two consecutive moves within a week of each other. The first move was acceptable at best. The two men that showed up were pleasant, but they did not bring tools to disassemble my bed, even after I had mentioned having an item requiring tools when booking the move. I've moved quite a few times and have never had this happen. The movers asked my neighbors for tools, which I found very unprofessional. They then handed me the loose screws to my bed, hoping I had something to put them in. I ended up booking again because the first time was, as I said, acceptable. The two men that showed up the second time were amazing, so nice, professional and courteous. However, once I was moved into my new place, I found that an entire box of VERY expensive wine glasses were broken and the first movers had lost a bracket to my bed. After talking with the company, there was nothing they could do about the wine glasses (no compensation or refund) and they were less than sympathetic to my issues. I needed an old loveseat, mattress, and a few other small pieces of furniture removed. I was quoted $168 over the phone, which seemed low, but was assured it was correct as it was just a few items. However, when they came to pick it up, the price suddenly jumped to nearly $400 and included extra fees for the mattress (a disposal fee? For a junk hauling company?). The guys doing the pick up were great, very professional, but, man, what a scam they're running here. I didn't really have a choice since I had a new couch arriving the next day. So, yeah. Probably the worst moving experience I have ever had. The crew showed up with a small box truck for a 4 bedroom, 2500 sq ft house. Once the truck was full there was still 1/3 of the furnishing of the house left. The crew was instructed through the manager not to make a second trip as they had "other jobs to do". My wife and I ended up moving the rest of the stuff on our own and hiring an additional company to help with heavy items. The crew unloaded the truck at our new home all into the living room, taking nothing to any assigned rooms as requested. They also tore our mattress. We were given $90 off or our service for the torn mattress and told that "we didn't give them all the information needed to have a big enough truck". As someone who has moved multiple times in the last 5 years I would stay away from this company as it was the worst experience I have ever had moving. read more

I used this company twice and while I thought the prices were super high, I was desperate to have my stuff removed before I sold my house (and I think the company knew that), so I just paid for the service. I tried to hire them a third time and they tried to charge me twice what they charged me the last time for significantly less stuff (it was a small trunk full of cardboard boxes). That should not cost $250 to dispose of. I will not hire this company again. read more

I recently had back surgery. And needed to get rid of a lot of stuff. Per the advice of my grandma she insisted I buy a new bed as she believed that was making my back worse. Obviously I couldn't move these things on my own. Or wait for a big and bulky pick up. These two gentlemen helped me move my old bed, bookshelf, and chest of drawers and donate them for me. I'm beyond appreciative even though my pocket book is going to hurt for a minute. read more

UPDATE: this review is for the moving and labor-only business which is based out of Austin (separate from junk moving business based out of Hutto). I had a very good experience hiring two staff members (or "hunks") to help me with a few bulky items within my apartment. They showed up on time and had all the proper moving equipment and were super friendly. The line item fees and charges quoted to me on the phone matched what I paid the day of. I will use them again. It's not cheap but it's worth it for the worry-free day. read more
