I dined here last night and it was amazing! Food quality was superb. I had the chicken and waffles. Those hand battered tenders topped with scallions and southern syrup were delicious. Everyone else in my group thoroughly enjoyed theirs as well. And such a selection including seasonal specials. Service was just as good. Hands down one of the best breakfast places I've been to. I got their waffles which is out of my comfort zone. I usually get some type of egg. The waffle had bananas and whipped cream on them which sounds like the typical waffle but for some reason it tasted amazing and fluffy. The Restaurant IHOP is such a cozy and warm place when you step in. Me and my family would sometimes go there for breakfast in the mornings. Sometimes it's crowded, the place was always clean, with clean tables and chairs. And let me tell you the tables are so organized, the napkin next to you, the spoon, the knife, and everything is just so like...so organized and fancy! Reminds me of something like Gordon Ramsay would say in a restaurant like how you need to prepare for a restaurant, prepare the table first. The menu on the food looks just so good everything looks so good even on the kid's menu. When you're waiting for the food you ordered, some employees would give the kids a coloring sheet and some crayons for the kids to just wait till the food arrives, to just entertain them while the foods waiting and for the adults they just like ordered them drinks, juice, coffee, tea, milk, chocolate, etc. When you're done ordering, it does take a while, You just sit there for a very long time just to wait on your food like 50 minutes or an hour but some people get it like *snap* you know but when the food arrives you feel like it was worth it, it was worth the wait and then just sit there and eat and then you know, it's breakfast with the family, have fun. read more

If I could give a lower rating I would, First we had to wait to be seated, even though the place was not that busy, They stuck me and my husband, way in the back of the place, only 4 tables were there, It was quiet, but we were in a forgetful area. They then lead in 2 ladies with kids, who felt they owed they room, and moms did nothing to deter that. We ordered a normal breakfast, 2 eggs, pancakes, coffee, toast, and juice. nothing special, Our bill came to over $40,00!!! for 2 people, that could have eaten at Dennys for half the price, I will never go back there again, Took forever to get our check, almost tempted to walk out and not pay, food was not that great, at that price, you would have thought we had Kobe beef and eggs!! I have enjoyed eating at this location several times. I often take the children I watch because we receive coupons for free kids meals from the Naperville library. The staff is usually friendly and helpful. We have experienced one waitress that didn't really seemed too happy to have us in her area but other than that we enjoyed our visit. We enjoy the ice cream very much. Overall, we will continue to eat at this location. The food is yummy! The pot roast sandwich and nachos, which are so large you can eat for a meal, are two of my favorites. Kid's meals are large portions as well. read more

My kids and I love going to Colonial. I'll agree with some of the reviewers that this is more our "go to" place for dessert since we love their ice cream sundaes. Signing up for their emails if you are a regular gets you coupons for $3 to $5 off on a regular basis so worth it if you like to eat here. We have also had both breakfast and dinner here and would say dinner is always great but breakfast can be a hit or miss. It's been years since I've eaten here. The last time was for breakfast, I believe, and I remember it to be good. Today, after a stop at the hospital to pick up some stuff, we, the wife and I, stopped in for a quick lunch. It took a little while to get seated. A waitress was taking care of someone paying, then a customer that was ordering ice cream. She did apologize for the wait. Once she got to us, we asked for a table and not a booth. That took a few minutes too. The waitress had to find the hostess and ask her which table to put us at. Apparently the hostess was "busy" elsewhere. Next, after she got a table for us, she had to clean the table. I would say that about 70% of the empty boots and tables had used dishes on them. Doesn't this place clean their tables after customers leave? Ok ... the food. I ordered a patty melt with onion rings; the wife ordered a reuben with onion rings. A few more onions and a slightly larger patty would have been nice on ht patty melt. The reuben was decent. The onion rings were also good. Oh yeah ... we had to ask for silverware. The water glasses on the table were stacked. They were stacked while wet. They were clean, just wet. Why do restaurants put lemon slices in water? ASK FIRST. I shouldn't have to ask for water, lemon-slice free. The meal was okay ; the service friendly, but a bit slow, yet acceptable. The prices are good. Cleanliness? I just hope that it was uncleared tables only. It leaves a bad impression and makes you wonder if the hidden parts of the restaurant are clean or not. read more

I love this location! It always has great staff and food! Me and my friends always have an amazing time here with the great atmosphere! We loved colonial and thought of it as a great family friendly place where we can bring our kids for a quick meal. Decent prices, huge desserts. Our last trip however will probably be our last. One of our children has a gluten allergy and although they have GF options he doesn't do well with their GF meals. So we had picked up a lettuce wrap from jimmy johns next door for him so he could have something while the rest of us ate at CC. We walked in and the waitress practically yelled at us for bringing outside food, first she said "you can't bring that in here!" She yelled at my son and my husband. I approached her after thinking that she doesn't realize my one child has an allergy but that doesn't mean we can't support CC as a local business we would still go there. As I explained she was curt and rude, I tried to smile and explain his allergy. She could care less. She admonished me in front of several tables with people who were surprised at how she was speaking to me. Family friendly? Not so much. My one son had to eat his lunch outside on the porch steps with my husband who stayed with him while the rest of our family and friends were inside waiting forever for slow food and slow service. What happened to this place? So much rides on customer service. Waitstaff could have approached this in a more pleasant and understanding fashion. Say something like... "I completely understand your child's allergy. We do have GF options but if he reacts to them we certainly understand. Unfortunately we can't allow outside food to be brought in, can he wait to eat it?" Instead of "you can't bring that in here!! It's the rule and the law!" She apologized to me after as I was leaving and paying the bill. I told her to think from a parents perspective when you have one child who can't eat while the rest of us can and think about what you are telling him to go and eat outside. I haven't been here since they renovated. It's been a long time. My family and I thought we'd give it a try, but the service was so terrible we ended up leaving. It took 15 plus minutes to be seated and when we got our seats no one came to us. We ended up leaving because the staff was abysmal. The people that were waiting with us were frustrated as well. I came in with a large group to support an event. I was highly disappointed in the way the manager handled customers waiting for seats. The back room was designated for the event. Since it was packed, we asked for a table outside of that section, especially since there were MANY open seats. Evidently, they didn't have enough staff working. It would be understandable if the restaurant was packed, but it wasn't. We heard the manager Barbara yell to her staff that, "They will have to wait at least 20 minutes." I love this place. I come in very Tuesday night to kill an hour and have dinner by myself while my son is in class across the street. All of the waitresses are wonderful but Sarah is my favorite. I've never had a bad meal here and they have the best coffee in town. The restaurant is always busy but they're sure to always get me a booth as requested. "Where do you wanna meet? The usual? Colonial? Cool." I've been going to this place for years, and I have to say, I definitely miss it now that I've moved out of Naperville. It's one of those places where you're just guaranteed to have a good experience. Throughout high school, the huge platter of cheese fries was the "splurge" to treat yourself to every once in a while (they used to serve it with a variety of dipping sauces...if you tell them you want it like "they used to do it," the waitresses who have been there a while will know what you're talking about). Desserts are obviously one of their specialties...they have a huge dessert menu and they're known for their massive Kitchen Sink dessert. (Btw, if you finish it, you get a bumper sticker!) My personal favorites are the PB Chipper or just a good old-fashioned float. Some other menu items worth trying are the cinnamon french toast and the chili. You will not be disappointed if you stop by this place. It is often full with many "regulars" that have been going for years, but the service is great and you won't be let down. read more

Honestly I'm between 3-4 stars, but it's a diner and has solid diner food, so what more can you ask for? I had a party of 6, 4 adults 2 kids, all food came fast, servers were pleasant and good with kids, and food came in a reasonable amount of time! I see some places have had trouble with the consistency of food, but I have only been there once and everyone enjoyed their food. We usually go to Juicy'O's but figured we'd give this a shot. I ordered a skillet that was $10.50 supposed to be filled with meats- I think they forgot the meat- also only comes with 2 eggs. The hash browns were under cooked. I ordered a side of $5.00 corned beef hash. It is out of the can and they gave me a little dollup. Seriously- shame on Colonial for not making home made corned beef hash. It tasted liked the canned stuff I buy at Aldi. Also, every breakfast place I've ever been to includes pancakes or french toast. At Colonial, you have to pay $2.00 if you want pancakes?? The service was fine but they are belly robbers. I have had many good meals here and I can't recall any bad experiences. They are fast to get you seated and the food comes out in pretty average time. The wait staff is friendly. This is usually my favorite family atmosphere kind of restaurant. The service is usually top notch and the food is always amazing. Let me tell you something the server I had was the worst server I've come across in this establishment. Also the host/manager on duty was not much better. Asked for a table for 3 and a booster seat the host brought us to our table without a booster seat he just looked at me confused. I'm sorry can we get a booster seat. Already off to a rocky start. It was fine though just a simple mistake we sat down to order. Hi what do you want to drink? No hi my name is and I'll be taking care of you today. I don't even know her name I know her as that girl in the purple shirt with long black hair. It was very aggravating also the manager on duty that night was not very helpful. She barely came to check on us. When we asked for a half of a scoop for my nephew she seemed confused, we had to still pay full price for a full scoop, ok whatever. I ordered one scoop of cinnamon ice cream which is amazing. She came back, dropped the spoons on the table and walked away. Excuse me! I hope they fix this woman's attitude real fast she was one of the worst servers I've come across ever. Overall do not let it stop you from visiting but beware this server. Edit: the owner has been in contact which is very nice. I will be returning to try this again as this has always been one of my favorite restaurants. Very courteous owner that doesn't just say hey sorry, he is doing something about it, I really admire that. I hate giving bad reviews, especially for this place because normally it is 5 star service. I'm in agreement with some of the comments on their Facebook page. Really want to keep liking them, but am constantly disappointed. I don't mind paying for quality ice cream, but sadly it seems to have gone to the wayside. Paying $6.83 for less then 3/4ths of a cup of ice cream, including the whip cream on top, is just disappointing. This is the second time it's happened. Being treated like I am inconveniencing the staff for getting carry out ice cream does not make me want to come back. Pretty sad when I live within walking distance and from now on will drive to a different ice cream shop. read more

I wanted to take my wife and daughter to breakfast. So I told my wife you pick and this is what she chose. Ive been here once but shes been many. We were seated and ordered and I had ordered hash brown but told them to burn them ( that way they are crispy) the food came out and 15 mins later mt hash browns arrived almost looked raw. They took them back and brought them again but still not cooked how I liked. I told them just bring me a box and il take them home. The manager came over and I explained what happend and also how my wifes eggs looked rubbery and nasty. The lady said (we are short staffed and had to send a cook home) I dont know how that affects this. But she gave us 5$ off and thats why they get 2 stars is cause they tried to make it right. I would have paid full price. But we wont be returning and were really dissapointed. read more
