Ridiculously high prices now(07/23/2023). We ordered 2 grilled pork chop dinners plus pie slices to go. Came to $75.00 + and that did not include tip. The sides were 1 scoop of Mac n cheese and collards. The sides did not even fill the 1/2 cup container. That's insane. We used to eat there regularly. That will not be the case anymore. During Covid we all contributed money to help save and keep the place open. Now, those who helped save the restaurant are priced out of enjoying it regularly. That's sad. read more

The Colonnade is an Atlanta staple I've visited twice and both times came away with similar impressions, which is that it's overrated. The food here is fine but not something that's worth paying extra for and waiting in line awhile. With the popularity of the place they will not seat a party unless all members are present; even if a majority are there and with no reservations this can be tough. The ambiance is good here with nice decorations and down south feel. We wish the cold air vent above us that we requested for them to be turned off on a cold winter day didn't result in the cold air being turned up. Our waiter seemed extra busy when we went this weekend. I asked what IPA's they had and by the time I got a drink menu (she couldn't, or wouldn't, tell me off of her head) and she came back for our order it had been about 20 minutes. Food took about 40 minutes to come out. The fried scallops, shrimp, and oyster platter was good but you get more fried batter than anything else and it's not that big for $27. The steak was better and had a nice blue cheese sauce. Every main dish comes with two sides and my wife and I split the Mac and cheese (not a ton of flavor), Lima beans (meh), turnip greens (fine but nothing special), and the fries (a little soggy but tasted fine). Again, nothing really jumped out but mostly the food tasted fine. This could be 4 stars for much cheaper pricing and better customer service but with the hype I'm sure none of that is happening anytime soon. read more

Walked in at 8:50 on a Saturday night and was informed by the "host" that the kitchen closes in 10 minutes... ummm OK and?? It shocks me that this place is an Atlanta institution when nothing about it is remarkable to any degree. Let's start with the bar. It's nice that it exists while you wait for a table, but the drinks were not good. Watered down classics. For the martini, the bartender grabbed some olives that rolled away on the bar countertop, picked them up with her bare hands and placed them on a napkin next to the drink. Aren't they supposed to be skewered and placed in a drink? That was rhetorical. Of course they are. No self respecting bartender would let loose olives roll around and then serve them. The food is comfort classics, but the quality was worse than what one can make at home. It all seemed like it lacked something. It's as if they think fried breading is a substitute for flavor. I've been in Atlanta now 24 years. I've been coming here since then. I know the wait staff /hostess/host by name. I went right after Covid and didn't have a good experience,..but chalked it up to "Covid"--like a lot of restaurants were experiencing. Have gone several times since and it's never returned to what it was. Went tonight and saw a few wait staff people I recognized,...but also a few new faces. On top of the prices really going up a lot,..which I don't see how they can charge $23 for hamburger steak--but I digress. Ordered one cocktail and my friend had Iced tea. We got our salad and half way Thru it,..I assumed I wasn't getting my cocktail---no biggie. Then I saw the bartender walking Thru the restaurant at two tables over asking if they ordered the cocktail (I knew it was mine). She said "I brought it out because it had been sitting there a while and if you need it chilled again I can". I said "it's fine". This may seem insignificant to most,...but this would have never happened in the past. Salads came out with wrong dressings , no biggie, easy fix. My friends side was bland and even his entree wasn't flavorful like in the past. (He orders the same thing all the time). It's just changed a lot and not for the better. We've decided tonight was it for a while,...we will only go back if we hear "things are somewhat like they used to be". It's sad,..this is an institution. Treated our family of 6 to dinner here the other night. A kind of low key birthday celebration. This place has the best fried chicken!!!!!! To appreciate the South you have to know good fried chicken, sweet tea, collards, mac and cheese, cole slaw and okra. Well this place has it all complimented by the friendliest staff in Atlanta. The food was so good that I expected my Southern Grandmother to come out of the kitchen and offer seconds. The decor is nostalgic and clean. The area outside is a bit sketch but it adds to the character of the experience. Love, love, love this place. I would have paid more but our bill was just over $100 for 6-adult meals, 6-drinks and 1-appetizer before tip. A real bargain for the quality meals we enjoyed. Shhhhh....don't tell anybody that I eat fried chicken livers. This place offers the best ever as an appetizer or as a meal. read more

Pretty good traditional southern food. The fried chicken is particularly good and probably a top five in my book. Service is friendly enough although historically a little bit hit or miss from my experience. But you're not really here for the service. Sweet tea is good... Pecan pie is very good. Also particularly like their collard greens and the okra is good from what I recall although it's actually been a while since I've been here. If you want to see these kinds of places continue to survive in Atlanta... Make sure to keep coming. Let's start with what's great: the sweet tea (not diabetes sweet), the yeasty rolls (I should have just eaten 5 of those), the caprese salad (I didn't see this on the menu but saw the table next to us get it so I requested it so that we would have some vibrant color outside of the slew of tan, brown, and yellow that was coming our way - it was very good, esp with the pesto drizzled on top!), the southern hospitality from the hostess and house manager, and easy parking in the lot (although you might have to park at the closed business next door on a busy night - our friends did and their car was fine.) As for the food, it's a solid 3 stars. The variations of friend chicken were all a bit disappointing. While the batter and fried skin was good, the actual chicken was bland and sometimes a bit dry (definitely the case for breast). The chopped sirloin (with side of gravy and fried onion strings) and the pork chop were much better as main entrees than fried chicken--I'd say these were pretty good at 4 stars. As for the sides, they were all okay. The mac and cheese, sweet potato fries (mushy, not crisp), collards, baked potato ... all okay. The dressing was probably our favorite side of all the options we got. Our service on a Friday night was so slow and pretty dismal. But in our server's defense, it was bumpin' at 7:30pm. She was obviously stressed out and probably only cracked one smile at the very end of dinner. Luckily for us, the house manager was very nice and going around helping refill drinks and what not so at least our sweet tea was plentiful. As for the crowd, well, diverse it was not. It was all older White folks the first half of the night but as we got later into the evening, there were a couple of other tables of Other. Not a big deal and everyone was nice, just a little surprising for Atlanta. Overall, it was a decent meal for the price point. I used to really enjoy the Colonade , what a disappointment! We ordered the fried green tomatoes app for the table , they never came out , the server brought them out when we mentioned it as he set the entrees down. I ordered the burger -mealy , terrible ,and the onion rings were stale and soggy, the server forgot my Mac n cheese side. All the food was Luke warm. The restaurant wasn't even very busy. I ordered the coconut cake to go -it was tasteless and the crust was horrible, they've obviously given up and are riding on their reputation -the last time I'll be visiting this once great institution :( read more

We have been enjoying this place since the early 80's. Fast forward. This was the most cringe worthy experience ever. Have you ever been served your entree before obtaining silver ware? Actually, before the salad or rolls? How about finding a feather still attached to the wing you were served? Hey, I understand the employment situation but how about a waitress that openly scorns you. I went to the bar to get my fellow diner a glass of wine versus putting the order through the waitress. I love fried chicken. I can't eat them every day though. One afternoon I was watching Travel Channel and the show was all about fried chicken. I started searching for any new fried chicken place which has raving reviews. That is what tv does to people. Colonnade seems to fit the bill, near home (though it was located in a part of the town where I would not go on my own) and 4 stars ratings overall? Count me in!! Last Sunday finally made it there. The place was crowded which always a good sign. The server was very friendly. But how about the fried chicken? My expectation definitely fell short. The Colonade is First in my view. My Mom's 90th birthday was today and we planned a surprise birthday party for her. There were 26 people and it was the first banquet the Colonade had since the pandemic of COVID happened! Jodi the coordinator was professional and pleasant in all aspects. Our server Rayann was efficient and kind. She was flexible in dealing with the schedule and for that I am grateful! Why this restaurant is hot on Yelp is beyond me. Also, why I've never heard of it for the 10 years I've lived here until I saw a review of it pop up on my feed is also beyond me. I guess I am used to Mary Mac's being the place to get traditional Southern food in Atlanta. The Colonnade seems so out of place between all the seedy strip clubs and adult novelty shops on Cheshire Bridge, but then again, it probably was the first to setup shop around these parts ("since 1927"). The existing reviews for this restaurant are pretty much spot on. When I asked friends and co-workers about this place, they all echoed the same phrases: "colon aid" and "gays and greys." I can personally vouch for the latter. We came on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm and the restaurant was packed out. The host was extremely polite and we were told there would be a 20 minute wait. They have a nice big bar and waiting area. I think our name was called within 15 minutes. I'm pretty sure 95% of the tables had at least one elderly person. And as other reviews have mentioned, the decor and interior of this place probably hasn't changed much, if any, in decades. Also, the place has a funny smell. All the employees here are very polite and courteous and thus, service was excellent. As for food, an entree with two sides will set you back about $12-13. We had to order their famous "Southern fried chicken" and I also ordered their fried chicken livers since I love eating chicken livers when I dine at Southern restaurants. Our sides included collards, turnip greens, sweet potato fries, and fried okra. Pretty good fare all-around and no real complaints. The chicken was nice and crispy and fried right. The serving of collards seemed very small. Sweet potato fries were average. Corn bread and rolls are complimentary. As you can imagine, a lot of these items, while tasty, are not the healthiest food alternatives. Case in point, during the middle of our dining experience, 911 was called and an elderly patron was carried off with an oxygen tank on a stretcher by the Grady EMT. I guess that's what can happen if you eat too much Colonnade over your lifetime. FYI - the elderly gentleman appeared to be conscious and okay as he was being lifted to the ambulance. My friends and I are about 10+ years away from AARP eligibility but we already have the mindset of that demographic when it comes to taking advantage of early bird specials :) Colonnade has an Early Bird Special for $11 which includes entree, 2 sides, beverage, and dessert. Their regular prices are higher than you'd expect so the $11 special is a great deal. It's available Mon-Thur 5-6:30pm, and Sat 12-4pm. Go to their website to check out the eligible menu selections. This was only my 2nd visit but it was so much better than my 1st. Maybe it was partly psychological b/c I got a great deal this time. Tonight I got the Salmon Croquettes which was served w/ a red pepper & chive bechamel. For sides I picked our server's favorites: stewed corn (fresh shucked corn made into cream corn) and squash casserole (chef's own special recipe). Croquettes were a little drier than I would've liked but otherwise, everything was excellent, esp. my sides. I also got a taste of the Chicken Fried Chicken (which was HUGE - see photo) and the Grilled Tilapia (loved the grilled flavor and cooked perfectly). I loved the flavor of both these dishes and I'd definitely get either of these next time. Honestly I wouldn't have expected a non-fried entree like grilled fish to taste so good, esp. at a southern restaurant. Dessert was better than expected, too. Our server said the Lemon Pie was her favorite but since 3 of the 4 at my table ordered it, I decided to get the Peppermint Ice Cream b/c it had gotten good reviews plus I knew I'd be able to get a taste of the pie from my generous friends :) Both desserts were fantastic - whipped topping was light & creamy (not a meringue), and the filling was more like a pudding (and not bright yellow). I loved my ice cream, too - and I loved the bits of peppermint candy. AMBIANCE: The restaurant is a little outdated in terms of decor (most restaurants on Cheshire Bridge are unfortunately). The main clientele are of older Caucasians, which is interesting given its location next to a strip club. FOOD: As starters, they give you rolls and cornbread. The cornbread was a little hard. The rolls are perfection... soft and warm... Ordered chef salad, which comes with mainly romaine lettuce (even though it's supposed to be spring mix), very little spring mix, ham, turkey, tomatoes, cucumber, beets, and cheese. This was a very large serving. I had to take majority to go since I wasn't really hungry to begin with. Husband had the roasted turkey breast with mash potatoes and black eye peas. He enjoyed his meal. After leaving the place, we both had stomachaches so we won't be returning unfortunately. My very first time at this apparently landmark restaurant! I actually passed the restaurant (so pay attention when you get about .2 miles away) ;) Very happy to see there was plenty of parking at 6pm. I was meeting a group, and the 7 of us were sat pretty quickly with a reservation. I feel like they sat us at a 6 top (so I kind of scooted out to make room) at the round table. Our server was quick to take our order and everyone pretty much ordered off of the early bird dinner menu, which includes an entree, 2 sides, dessert, and drink for $13. However, since I read so many post about the "famous" fried chicken I ordered that with a side of mac, onion rings, and a wedge salad. The wedge salad was HUGE (plate not as large as the salad, so it was messy) but absolutely delicious. I ordered it with no tomatoes and the blue cheese dressing on the side, and apparently everything was on the side? Lol, either way it was an amazing portion and absolutely delicious. At the same time baskets of complimentary buttery yeast rolls (yes, eat them) and cornbread arrived. Those yeast rolls..... About 20 minutes later our meals arrived. The fried chicken either comes mixed, white, or dark meat and I had the mixed. It was juicy but only warm and the onion ring batter, though it LOOKED like the perfect beer battered onion ring, had a sweet taste and was just "warm" as well, as was the mac n cheese. Though not everything was piping hot, it was still a good meal. Portions were plenty, flavor was pretty typical of a stable southern restaurant. Colonnade was interesting to say the least. The environment of the restaurant was kind of stuffy and most of the customers there were on the older side. It took a minute for our waitress to come and ask us for our order and the food took quite long as well. I ordered a burger and fries. The burger was okay, but quite large. Also the fries were not the best, not very crispy or anything. The most interesting part of the whole experience was getting refills on our drinks. Instead of typically replacing the glass or bringing over a jug, to drink out of. The waitress brought out another cup of our drink and poured it into the cup we were already drinking out of. So before I give my review i have to be honest in sharing my experience and observation. I heard about this venue oftem from my friend and her husband. After work I decided to try it out because I was hungry for a home cooked meal. Now at the time of typing this I had a few cosmos from their bar and they were pretty strong and lovely so please forgive any and all grammatical errors because I am shamelessly yet not ashamed of being LIT. Atmosphere prequel: If you are the type of person that doesnt like people, older people, gay people, people people dont go here. Come here? Dont go. It is VERY diverse and just being there I had random strangers just come up and talk to me like I was famous y'all!!! I felt special. I also envisioned this place to be a place where Dean Martin and the crew would hang out. Bar on one side diner on other side. It has that swag cool people vibe. Loved loved! Food: the menu serves home cooked meals and seafood and steak. I ordered salmon croquettes and baked potato and it came with a salad and a Huge amount of bread in a basket. I tried to watch my figure as I carbed suicide on those corn muffins. For dessert *yes I did" a fabulous table of 4 men told me to try the strawberry shortcake. I did. Y'all, I made a pit stop at the Colonnade Restaurant on Cheshire Bridge in Atlanta yesterday. When I tell u their fried chicken had me doing back flips. That crunch and flavor was legendary. It was on par with Popeye's chicken, but better. They give u four pieces of chicken in your order. Omg! It's sort of a dive, but it's very clean, spacious and the customer service is impeccable. It's been around for 80 years, I think. Go check it out. They open from 5-10 pm most days, so get there when the doors open like we did and u can't go wrong. Apparently, this restaurant has been on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Colonnade has been around since 1927! The patrons that filled most of the restaurant are probably regulars that were around for the grand opening. It's a big place that can seat many. They don't have beers on tap but thumbs up for offering bottled local brews like Sweetwater IPA and Red Brick Hoplanta. They are known for their fried chicken here, and rightly so. All the entrees come with 2 sides. With over 30 different options, it may take a while to narrow down your choices. I went with the blackeyed peas and Brussel sprouts. They weren't anything special, but I liked them both. The dinner rolls and corn break looked amazing...but they were not. I wouldn't waste any stomach space on them. Fried chicken liver appetizer $6 - These were surprisingly very good! They are lightly battered and fried. Possibly the best fried chicken liver I've ever had. Creole Trout Almondine $18 - This fish was good and I liked the sliced almonds on top. But it's no fried chicken. Southern Fried Chicken $15 - 4 pieces of lightly battered and fried chicken. The skin was perfectly crispy and the chicken was juicy on the inside. Delicious! Chicken Fried Chicken $14 - This boneless chicken breast was nicely battered and fried. The best dessert of the night was the Eric's Signature Sampler for $6, which consisted of half hot fudge cake and half strawberry shortcake. Even though we were full from dinner, it did not stop us from licking this dessert plate clean. The coconut ice box pie dessert was decent (and apparently one of their popular desserts) and so was the cherry cobbler (not on the menu). read more

Me, asking if I should get friend or broiled chicken livers: "What do you recommend?" Waitress: "Fried." Fried pretty much sums up The Colonnade. Especially fried chicken parts, their fried chicken might be their signature dish [note: I have not tried it]. This place opened in 1927 which I think says a lot. Apparently the original location was at Piedmont and Lindbergh, in a house with columns. Guess that's where the name "Colonnade" comes from. The Colonnade moved to Cheshire Bridge in 1962. All tidbits taken from the website. Our party of Yelpers was seated at a round table (good for conversing!) that seated 6 people (bad since we were a party of 7!) once we all arrived since no incomplete parties are taken back. I expected the room to not be so cold since a lot of older people dine here, but I thought the AC was cranked a bit high for my tastes. I ordered off the early bird menu, available until 6:30 PM Monday-Thursday, since I can't turn down a deal. For $13, you can select an entree, two sides, and a dessert. Also, rolls and cornbread are offered for the table. The choices for entrees and sides are plentiful, but for dessert, it was either ice cream or yellow cake. More on dessert later. I decided on the aforementioned fried chicken livers. There were what seemed like a million covering my plate. There were so many that I opted to pack the leftovers for a snack later. The Colonnade doesn't lie when they say "A Lot of Livers" on the menu. Make sure you really dig livers before ordering these. In this case, I'd actually like less main and maybe an extra side? My sides were the blackeyed peas and fried okra. The blackeyed peas were standard issue (lightly salted), but the fried okra was exceptional. Others were in agreement. We also were in agreement about how the rolls went down easy and how the cornbread wasn't quite at that level. I wanted the yellow cake with chocolate frosting, as did most of the others in our group. Sadly, they ran out of cake as they were distributing our slices. I took the replacement apple crisp which wasn't bad but needed more crisp and less apple. Our server Sarah/Sara worked hard and corrected any issues that needed correcting. I saw some reviews mention that The Colonnade is cash only, but they take plastic now. Also a bonus: there's a huge parking lot. I ordered fried chicken, collard greens (my first try) and super delicious mac-n-cheese. I also had The Colonnade Marian Salad, a salad with diced tomatoes, onions, pickled beets and cucumbers. The portions were huge, the chicken was too fried and greasy for my tastes, the greens were delicious and the blue cheese dressing was homemade and chunky! The meal comes with a little cornbread muffin and a couple rolls. It was $20 for dinner (with another side it'd be enough for two people) and they don't accept credit cards! As we sat at the restaurant we could see the history all around us and how much everyone enjoyed the southern food. We had to eat light to not be too full for a friendsgiving so we split one early dinner with the fried chicken, spinach salad, onion rings, and apple crisp. Everything tasted amazing! I like chicken that doesnt have bones so for me it was great. It was seasoned just right and crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. The onion rings were great and although simple I loved the spinach salad with bacon too. For dessert, the apple crisp was just the right portion for us and it was just the right amount of sweetness. Everyone from the hostess, to our server, to the cashier were all so welcoming and sweet. The Southern-Hospitality was real. This is the ideal place for a drink and meal if you're feeling nostalgic. Friendly bartender and wait staff. Wide variety on the menu, and plenty of good choices. This probably isn't the best choice for you if you're on a diet, but I'm sure you can find something. The dinner rolls are delicious, and I challenge you to only have one of them. So good. Fried chicken seemed especially popular. I tried it. Very good (not quite excellent, but not bad). I would go here again just to keep exploring the menu. As a tourist, visiting Atlanta, I enjoyed this place, but for locals I'm sure it isn't a must-do, unless they are taking their Great Aunt Mildred out for dinner at her favorite place. read more

The quality of food and service is way down at the Colonnade. I took a friend there Sunday night and ordered the rib eye steak. It was so tough I could barely cut it. I had a pile of tough pieces and fat by the end. My bill, including a drink and dessert, was $73. The waitress acted like she was in a hurry. She brought us the bill before ever asking if we wanted dessert. A few months ago, I was eating there alone and they lost my order. It took forever to get my fish, which wasn't that great. I've been a loyal customer for many years, especially after they reopened after Covid. Sadly, I won't be going there again any time soon. read more

Love the fried chicken at Colonnade. IMO best bird anywhere. For $20 person I ordered the fried chicken breast, thigh, drumstick and wing combo with sides of tomato slices and field peas. For the amount of food and quality this is a deal. The only downside is the drab severally dated interior. That being said if you enjoy fried chicken I highly recommend Colonnade Restaurant. read more
