After we couldn't even get seated at Mather Lodge restaurant, my wife and I went to Morrilton and ate at Colton's Steakhouse. We've eaten at this restaurant before and it's always been good. We were seated quickly, which was a pleasant change from the last restaurant attempt. Our server, A'Mya, was very friendly and attentive. She took care of all our dining needs perfectly. I had the 12 ounce ribeye, cooked medium rare of course, the smashed potatoes and the steamed vegetables. My wife ordered the grilled salmon and extra steamed vegetables. We have no complaints about the food either - we usually get the blackened salmon, BLT wedge salad, which is large enough for 2, and the potato skins appetizer. Been 20 years since I visited a Coltons due to 2 bad experiences in a row but we decided to visit the one in Morrilton to give them another chance. I had the country fried steak, loaded mashed potatoes and fried okra. The Chicken fried steak was good but you could tell they got it from Harps. The loaded mashed potatoes were luke warm at best and the Harps breaded okra wasn't fried crispy like it should have been. On the other hand, the beer and our waitress were very good. We usually love Colton's but this location was a letdown. We ate here for lunch today while passing through on our way back to Oklahoma. The service, atmosphere/cleanliness, sweet tea, and rolls were all 10/10. The fried chicken on my salad and the fried shrimp was over cooked, but still edible. It was the sirloin that was the biggest disappointment. Both my son and husband's steaks were like bubble gum. Chewy and fatty! A good portion was wasted for that reason. The fries and okra were pretty good though. My daughters mac n cheese was barely room temp. Not a total bust, but definitely not worth the $80 we spent. Stopped here for lunch off the highway - one of the few non-chain choices. The atmosphere is very country - what fun! We did not have steaks as we were just here for lunch, so a big meal was not in the cards. We had soup and grilled shrimp, which we very good but not representtive of what they mainly offer, so I have no views on the steakhouse part of the menu. Been pretty put our lately with the pricing in other restaurants, especially steak houses, but we found the pricing at Colton's very reasonable. They even extended the lunch menu to Saturday afternoon, who does that? We had an appetizer along with lunch with a couple of steak dinners. The service was great, the food tasty and cooked just like we like it, and all at an affordable price. We live 79 miles from Morrilton, but I am going to load up my family and drive the 79 miles to Colton's and treat my family to one of the best steak dinners they have ever had. Applewood bacon on a salad should not remind you of bacon bits. If they are going to print Applewood bacon on the menu, then use it. The soup was barely room temp and of course, bacon bits instead of real bacon in a loaded baked potatoe soup. We had the joy of eating here twice in one day--they have this great back room that is useful for larger parties, so if you are in Morrilton with a house full of kin, this might be the place for you. For lunch, we ordered the onion strings appetizer. I think that is what gave me a stomach ache later--well, that and other things. But that is not to fault the onion strings. They were delicious and crispy and the slightly spicy dipping sauce was sort of a chipotle goodness. I had the chicken fried steak and that was excellent, perfectly crispy but still tender on the inside. The mashed potatoes were hard as rocks, but the white gravy helped there. For dinner, I tried the grilled shrimp over a bed of rice. The shrimp were cooked well, and this is probably a good go to if you do not want a big ol hunk of meat! The side of broccoli was also good, steamed but then drenched so thoroughly in butter that the broccoli felt half melted. The chicken tortilla soup that I shared with my wife was less than stellar, more like chili, with big ol pinto beans in it. Avoid that. The highlight of both meals was the bread. Eat these divine dinner rolls with butter and honey. read more

Return to this place after a couple of years - service has improved, and the kitchen was accommodating in grilling some catfish rather than frying it as was offered on the menu. I don't understand why they don't offer grilled catfish on the menu, since they grill salmon, so obviously the kitchen knows how to grill fish. This is more of a "Colton's Tuesday" type of restaurant to keep on your short list of places to eat during your lunch break. If you are looking for a dining experience that leaves a lasting impression for all the right reasons, you may be disappointed. I had to quickly jot this review down before it fades into the sea of countless forgettable experiences. This restaurant wins its forth star for cleanliness as well as the friendly and fast service. Went to Colton's with a party of three. It seemed to be a normal lunch service I have definitely seen other businesses far more busier than this particular place. We waited for a total of 15 minutes and not had our order for drinks taken, then a party of two was seated beside us in which they were given drinks. At this point we decided to leave and let the host know are problems with service in which he casually responded "ok." He did not offer any suggestions and did not appear sympathetic for wasting our time. Really upsetting when your on a crunch time of an hour for lunch and waste 15 minutes of it on a service that does not happen then not having time to go to another place. When I entered there was a group with some screaming children in front of me. I asked not to be seated near them. That request was granted however the next two tables they sat had children one of those tables had very loud children. I was traveling and did not particularly want to listen to screaming children. I ordered the ribeye, it was OK nothing to write home about. The asparagus although an additional charge was very good. The salad was OK I did like the spicy ranch. The sweet tea was good.
