I have been browsing the Cabela's used firearms selection online and finally made the trip from…read moreLongmont to visit in person. Wow am I glad I did! Everyone I interacted with was SO nice and helpful and happy to talk about their niche firearms expertise. Today I learned about vintage muzzle loaders, shotguns, hunting rifle calibers, and recoil factors... and nobody was rude or condescending. The first guy I chatted with even helped me with my shooting stance and posture (admittedly terrible due to a disability), and asked each time if he could touch me to help with positioning. It was courteous, very helpful, and felt very respectful. 10000 stars for Lou! I was also very grateful to the rifle/hunting enthusiast who handles the buying (didn't catch his name) and brought so many rifles from storage for me to handle and decide on. I ended up trading a rifle that didn't fit me well for ... two. What can I say, hunting season is coming and I've been slacking! I interacted with at least 6 employees in the Gun Library throughout the interaction. I ended up having them set aside the rifle I wanted to buy, and I trekked home to retrieve the trade in rifle to save a bunch of $$ on taxes - great looking out by the staff! Despite being busy when I returned, they remembered me and had my rifle set aside. I had decided to buy a second one I'd been looking at and they pulled that one and its accessories for me as well. I dropped off my trade for them to look over, went browsing for a while and returned to do paperwork about a half hour later. It took probably another 30-45min to complete the trade in, purchase, and background check forms... yet another reason to buy multiple firearms in a single purchase - huge PITA! Important, of course, but it's time consuming. Cabela's of course has many other departments and I can't speak to those today, but I can very highly recommend the firearms section and the Gun Library in particular - they're one of the largest used firearm dealers in the BassPro family in the country and you can tell that with every interaction. Regarding value, there's so many factors in buying used that it's hard to give a helpful feedback. I am happy with the price of each purchase for their condition; one is new in box and was a good amount off retail. They offer discounts for law enforcement and active military (possibly also veterans?) and have occasional sales.

Great selection of all kinds of things. Prices are a bit higher than those box stores but you get far better service and selection. They also have an old school style coffee and ice cream shop!! It has an amazing wooden backdrop like you would see in places from 100 years ago. And they sell chocolates and homemade fudge.

It's a wonderland of products for an outdoor enthusiast: clothes and shoes for any activity, camping gear, biking gear, fishing gear, hunting gear and hats galore. They even have other miscellaneous items to keep non-adventurers excited like soaps, toys, dish towels, hot sauce, dog toys, etc. Truly, they have it all! And... it's all priced the same as REI. Plus, staff has always been helpful when I've asked questions. And... they allow dogs in their stores! It's been a great spot to take our pup to socialize. :D

Reminded him by text 4 days in advance and he again assured me they would be ready. Day of, at noon, I went to pick up the skis and they were not ready, but he said if I came back at 5p (just before my flight) he would be done. Went back at 5p and they were not done. After swearing at me that he had too many f**ing tasks to do and too many customers so it wasn't his fault he said he could finish the tune while I waited for 10min and charged me full price. When I brought my skis in days later to adjust the bindings I was informed by a the new shop that "the skis have not been touched at all, the edges are so dull I can safely run my finger with pressure, there are 4-5 core shots needing repair for safety reasons, there is no basework, no grinding, and no wax." This shop charged half of Snow Hut and did a professional job and a full tune that you can see and feel. I have called my credit card company to revoke the charge since no work was done on the skis.

They would check it, send an estimate and with acceptance repair and ship it back. That seemed unnecessarily complicated from a place like Boulder, home of many outdoor gear companies and repair support. We stopped in to the place we had purchased it, our REI store being incredibly helpful and knowledgeable of such repairs, though they don't do any themselves. They gave us two names, Bare Boulder being the most comprehensive and a 20 minute drive away, on a prominent street in Lafayette. I called, got info from the owner, Eli, about general pricing and timing. We took the bag of poles out 3 weeks ago, the estimate in person was at the low end of general approximation on the phone. We dropped it off and was told about 3 weeks as my husband had no need to camp with for at least a month. We picked it up today, ready on time and beautifully done with even higher quality cord than original. The shop is amazing, with antique sewing machine display, thousands of sizes and colors of zippers, piles of buckles and straps. It appears he can fix such parts on almost anything, luggage, jackets, backpacks, scuba BC vests, tents handbags, tote bags, recreation gear galore. We will certainly return as we wear out more and more of our gear.
