Super crispy egg rolls and a pork belly Banh Mi
    Randy H.

I think I'm going to try everything on the menu at this place as so far everything I've ordered has been fantastic! This go around I got the Dark Chicken / Banh Canh Ga Thit Den This is a thick udon noodle soup with dark chicken. It's got Chicken broth, green, onion, shallot, Cilantro and Vietnamese coriander leaf. Just for fun. I got the special Banh Can topping for an extra $2 which has crunchy mung bean sprouts, additional herbs and jalapenos. This soup is like a cozy hug on a frigid day when you're feeling a little blue. The udon noodles have an incredible light and airy texture and I appreciate how everything is in separate containers so you can put together as much or as little as you like. I always get the egg rolls as they are super crispy and have a nice mouth feel. Once again I doordashed and even when it's frozen outside this food shows up at the perfect temperature.

I got my usual clear noodles with mixed chicken but I didn't feel like having the bamboo today so I opted for the selection without but was confused that I would still get the pork blood. Apparently, the menu needs to be updated. Anyway, I still enjoyed the dish but will order it differently next time. The chicken was also presented smaller and much different than before but tasted the same. I must have ordered the more premium version before. I had also catered chicken for my sister's birthday from them before and everyone loved it. The Agar Agar dessert was not too sweet and had plenty of coconut flavor to it. The service was quick and the server was friendly and helped me sort out the confusion. It seemed to be a bit quiet when I got there around 6pm but people rolled in a bit later. The place still looks bright and clean.

Hainan-style chicken rice with dark meat ($~18).

Instagram strikes again. I would like to come back and try their chicken pho but their Hainan-style chicken rice was so good that I couldn't bear to try anything else. This will definitely be my go-to spot for Hainan-style chicken rice. So many places don't get the rice right, but this place had the lovely chicken flavor throughout the rice. The chicken broth was more on the savory, heavy side rather than thinner and lighter than other places have, which was perfect for me, especially with the AC blasting. Delicious ginger/garlic oil, although could've maybe done with a bit more. Some of their other menu options seem a little pricey, but about ~$18 for dark meat Hainan chicken is expected. White meat is ~$16 and a mix is about ~$17. The banh mi was decent, but the bread wasn't as flaky and crispy as I'd hoped. The meat options on it were good and the carrot and radish were well-pickled. The egg rolls were pretty good in my opinion, but my partner loved them.

The food was delicious and ample portions. Three people dining, ordered an appetizer, salad, soup and two entrees to share. Small plates were brought to the table before the appetizer, however, larger plates didn't come with the entrees. One large bowl of soup, one spoon, and when we asked for bowls, only one was brought. Chicken and duck were in the soup and entree with bones, which is fine, but nothing on which to discard the bones. Again, the food was delicious, the eating of the food proved awkward.

Definitely my go-to hainanese-style chicken spot!!! I loved the tender chicken. The garlic rice, pickled veggies and soup paired so well! Very fresh and home-y! I ordered the viet crepe and it was soooooo huge. It's also came with a big platter of herbs! It's considered an appetizer but felt more like an entree. Loved it!!! I haven't explored the rest of the menu but so far I'm hooked. Customer service was friendly and helpful. The space is tucked away in the Olathe shopping malls. Def take a visit!

First impression: beautiful decor with a modern design. We ordered duck salad, bean thread noodles with chicken and bamboo, and rice platter with cold meat chicken. The star of all the dishes is the ginger dipping sauce. I couldn't really taste the flavor of each dish individually because of the dipping sauce was overwhelming. It was a good experience. Food was good. Service was okay. However, it was hard to carry a conversation with my company because the music was so loud. And instead of playing modern American music, would be nice to hear soft Vietnamese music. More fitting with the vibe. I would recommend this place to my friends and family. But I don't know if I would go out of my way for it.

    Chicken Pho

I was excited to see a Vietnamese place open up not too far from me. I really wanted to like it better because I normally love a lot of Vietnamese food because it's fresh! I just am not a fan of the chicken or at least the way they serve it. I was a vegetarian for a long time so I'm very picky about meat. Doing this review is hard because some of it is a preference and others might like it but I didn't. I was also excited to see you can get dark or white meat chicken or a combo because I prefer white meat. I decided to get the chicken pho which is $16.99. When the dish arrived, it was a large serving as usual with pho. The problem for me is they literally take the chicken breast and chop it into larger pieces so it has all the skin and ligaments still attached to all the pieces. That is very unappetizing for me due to texture. I had to spend several minutes trying to dig out each piece and pull the skin, ligaments, and dark places off of the chicken. I wound up removing probably close to half of it that I could not eat. The server was really great and explained to us that the chicken is different because it's not the same type of chicken served here normally. She described it as a "running chicken" and thinner. It does taste what I would consider more "gamey" which is not really something I like either. Lol The flavor can be too strong for me. Some may love this but I wanted to let others like me know. I did eat some of it but only a few bites of the chicken. Even the broth was a bit gamey for me. I was able to cut some of the gamey taste by using siracha and the herbs in the pho. My partner got a skillet dish with steak and veggies. They serve it in a skillet. He liked it okay but said it was a bit tough and probably wouldn't order again, it was around $21-$22 for the entree. We also got an order of spring rolls (they are made with shrimp and that's the only option) and they were good. I liked the peanut sauce. There were 2 of them and they were rather small for $6.99. I also got a tea. I wanted to try something but I don't like anything very sweet so I got a tea which came with jellies. I don't remember the Vietnamese name. I asked for it to be unsweetened. It was okay but had an earthy taste and it was $5.25 for a glass of tea with unsweetened jelly pieces. I wouldn't buy it again. The restaurant is new and very clean inside. It has a nice ambiance. The servers and other employees were incredibly nice. I really appreciated the explanations for different dishes. I wish I had liked it better but I think everyone should try it for themselves too especially if you would appreciate the type of chicken they specialize in.

We ordered the pho ga, Hainanese chicken & rice, and the chicken curry -- and wow, everything was so good. Food smelled so amazing, I totally forgot to take pictures when they came out! The chicken & rice honestly blew my mind. Super authentic and took me right back to my time in Hong Kong. Just really comforting and flavorful. The chicken curry was also amazing -- rich and creamy, with that perfect Thai-Vietnamese fusion vibe. The pho ga had a really clean, light broth that felt super homey. Only downside (hence the 4-star)? The pho noodles were way overcooked, which was a bummer. But overall, definitely a spot I'll come back to. This totally makes it into my list of top most-authentic tasting asian food restaurants in the area. Kudos to you, Com Ga Houston!

Very nice restaurant!! Clean and spacious inside. We got the com ga (rice and chicken) and it was delicious! The nuoc mam (fish sauce) for the com ga was a little too sweet for my liking but others might like that. The goi (cabbage salad) was my favorite. We got the special duck cabbage salad and wow I could eat that is every day! Service was good.

My friends and I heard about this Houston restaurant opening in the area and decided to stop by for the soft opening. We ordered a few different dishes so we could try everything. For appetizers we got the banh xeo and goi. The banh xeo is a crispy crepe and was HUGE! It was stuffed with so much pork, shrimp and squid! They also include mung bean which I personally wasn't a fan of but everyone else enjoyed it. The goi is made with poached chicken (or duck) that is tossed with shredded cabbage, banana flower and red onion. It is topped with Vietnamese coriander leaves, peanuts and fried shallots. It was so nice and refreshing! We also ordered chicken pho, chicken rice, chicken congee and curry chicken. Each dish was delicious and full of so much flavor! I also loved all the pickled veggies! The dishes we tried were so comforting and we can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu!

Was feeling like some Pho, and had no idea this new Vietnamese restaurant was in our neighborhood. Immediately upon walking in, I was impressed. This is an older building that has seen many restaurants over the years, so I think I expected just another restaurant tenant in the same old spot, but Com Ga Houston has completed elevated the space. It is bright, clean, and well-designed. Everything from the tables and chairs to the custom wood trim, perfectly trimming out their 5 LED TVs seemed well thought out. The menu was expensive, offering plenty of options for everyone, while remaining authentic to their cuisine. While I can't say this type of food was my absolute favorite, I recognize that for those that love it, they'll likely love this place. Prices were okay and portions were generous. This is definitely our new go-to pho place.

    Beef Stew with Noodles

First, on a good note, the waitstaff was friendly and worked hard, even during a very busy service, which was appreciated. Lunch was pretty packed so it was hard to seat a big group like us, ~14 people. As for the food, it was just okay. The beef stew with noodles was thick and heavy, tasting like a standard beef stew. It wasn't particularly memorable, and I probably wouldn't order it again. I also tried my wife's chicken pho (P1), which was light and ok but unremarkable. Both dishes felt overpriced at around $16 each, especially given the small portions and the overcooked noodles, which clumped together and made them unpleasant to eat. They also spilled sauce on my wife's dress, didn't even try to maybe give a little discount or something. Maybe I'm just being petty. Also, their menu doesn't mention anything about automatic gratuity for large parties. When we went to pay, they didn't provide an itemized receipt upfront so we ended up tipping more than we intended. Unfortunately, this experience, combined with the mediocre food, left a bad impression. Everyone in our group agreed they wouldn't return.

Bok bok bok. "Rice Chicken Houston". Legit chicken and chicken broth. So fresh and delicious. This place is new from the Houston Area. If you're used to the $12 bowl of Pho you will not be disappointed with this $16 bowl. The noodles and broth are definitely top notch. Chicken pieces in my noodle are with the skin. Not torn up shredded chicken breast. Service for our large family was fast. And the place being new was very clean and decorated like restaurants I've been to in Vietnam.

A little lunch date with my babe.. found this little gem in Olathe.. EXCELLENT!!

Their menu consists of a lot of dishes, and some are quite unique .. you don't usually see items like bird's nest dishes at most Chinese restaurants around here except for maybe Bolings. Me and my husband visited on a Saturday night around 8 pm and really devoured our meal. The menu can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but you honestly can't go wrong with stir fries at any Chinese restaurant. For appetizers, we ordered chicken egg rolls, which were hefty and filling. For the main course, I ordered the chicken in black bean stir fry, and my husband got the shrimp Kung Pao chicken stir fry. We paired both with steamed rice. The black bean chicken was rich and earthy, with that deep, slightly funky flavor from the fermented black beans. It was very umami, salty and complimented nicely with the fresh, crisp vegetables and well-cooked chicken. I really liked it. The shrimp Kung Pao was spicy and tangy, with perfectly cooked shrimp (the fried shrimp covering was chefs kiss) and crispy veggies. Overall, we really enjoyed the food. The egg rolls were about $4 for two pieces, and the stir fries were around $17+ each. The portions are quite large compared to other places in the area, so the pricing seemed reasonable. For 2 main course dishes your bill could easily reach up to $40. Otherwise, The restaurant was clean, the staff was kind, and service was quick. It also wasn't too crowded when we visited. I would rate the service 4/5, mainly because we had to ask for silverware, condiments, and tissues separately. The food, though, is definitely a 5/5. Highly recommended! I will definitely return to have more dishes like beef chow fun, the soups and last, but not least BIRDS NEST!!
