Chicken Tacos: There was barely any chicken in the taco itself. All they put was a soft shell and a bunch of onions on top of it. Beef Tacos: The beef does not seem like it was cooked all the way and they barely put any beef in the taco. All they put was a soft shell and a bunch of onions on top of it. Chips & Guac: The chips tasted a bit stale and lacks flavor. The guac was just OK. Chips & Salsa: The chips tasted a bit funny and did not taste good at all. I only got this because someone in a previous review said it was amazing which was a lie. The salsa had a bad taste to it as well. Overall: This restaurant is mediocre and the food sucks here. They need to change the cooks to make the food taste better, change the staff so there is better service. It is definitely not worth $6 for 2 tacos that were not even full tacos. It is basically paying $6 for 1 taco since they are so cheap on the meat itself. Why would I want to pay $6 for a soft shell? I do not want to pay that much just to eat a freaking piece of soft shell which is like eating bread itself. I would probably get my moneys worth at Taco Bell instead. Very nice small place attached to the Whole Foods Market in Metuchen where you can have a drink and meal before or after you go food shopping. I prefer before so I don't binge shop because I am hungry. They have happy hour specials at certain times where the margaritas are $1 off. I've been here twice and had the nachos both times because they are memorable. They come on a half sheet tray so the nachos are spread out and toppings are placed all over. Queso, black beans, radishes, cherry tomatoes, cotija cheese, cilantro, scallions, and crema. No fresno chiles for me thanks. The queso is very mild which I love top it with a fresh cherry tomato and that's my favorite part of the whole meal. I ordered with chicken once and it didn't really add to the whole meal so I don't mind getting it without chicken again. The margaritas are good. I've tried the blood range and pineapple mint. The thing that changes my experience here is the way the service is set up. You order at the register on the side. I don't know what it is but when paying with card it takes forever and a day. They need to work on that. I don't know if it's the internet or that it's a restaurant but Whole Foods gets paid it takes SO long. Also I get confused about the bar concept. You sit there and I expect to be able to order drinks but I've never been taken care of there. They just gave me the order and that was it. These nachos were Amazing!! Loved every single bite. I was very impressed on the size of my order, thank goodness I was sharing It. But we still managed to take left overs home. As much as I want to love this place with its outdoor string lights and fun decor, I can't say much more than it being okay. I went to an authentic family-owned Mexican restaurant recently and that really put into perspective what this place lacks. One small gripe is that I can't order 3 tacos since the tacos come in orders of 2. 2 tacos aren't enough for me and 4 are too much, plus I do not want to be spending $12 for tacos. Additionally, the actual flavor of the tacos are okay, but not anything that would draw me back here. The jalapeños do give a nice kick but the proteins, white sauce, and taco shell are lacking in seasoning. While satisfying, the tacos don't really make me want to come back here that often. What I do like about Comida Fresca is that it's a fast casual restaurant where they bring the food to you, but you get your own water and seat yourself so no tip required. It's interesting to see Whole Foods explore other cuisines, but much is to be desired in the flavors, including the Asian cuisine options that they have available inside the store. I'm curious about the other options that they offer here, so I'm willing to try those and maybe update my review. For now, I am okay with not coming back for some time so that I can get my taco cravings fulfilled elsewhere. Had lunch here with my mom recently. The menu is decent with vegan options available. Tacos, nachos, salads and soups. I got the vegan tacos and my mom opted for the chicken tortilla soup. The tacos were like Mexican street taco style. It only came with two tacos for $8 with no sides or anything else included. My vegan tacos were very tasty, with cauliflower rice in place of meat. I enjoyed it but nothing too amazing. My mom enjoyed the soup which came with a generous amount of tortilla chips and some raw peppers on the side. My mom said there was a little kick to the soup. The service was not that good. One of their registers wasn't working and the other one was slow. There was only one person working the front/bar area. You order at the front, seat yourself and then they bring out your food when it's ready. The food came out pretty fast. The drink list looked good. They stay true to their name "Comida Fresca" which means "Fresh Food". Definitely a million times better, fresher and healthier than Chipotle and Qdoba, this is definitely much higher quality food than these two chains and most local Mexican restaurants. The good: the Baja Fish Tacos so, so good! You won't be disappointed. Also had the Poke Tacos and while they were pretty good they where nowhere near as good as the Baja Tacos. The Black Bean soup was also delicious and unlike the regular black bean soup from Whole Foods, this one is actually spicy; however, do keep in mind that it is almost twice as much as the same sized soup from Whole Foods. They give you the medium sized cup that I think is approximately $6 at Whole Foods for $10. The beer selection is not great, but they pick up the slack with the cocktails which are pretty decent. The old school pinball machines are also a great addition. Menu is simplified and not bombarded with a million dishes. The bad: the staff seemed overwhelmed even though it wasn't even that busy at all, food definetely took longer than it should have but maybe that's because this place is still relatively new so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Great concept. Poor Execution. I've been to a few Whole Foods around the country who are attempting these adjacent restaurant concepts. This one is a fail. I LOVE fish tacos and really appreciate one that has amazing flavor. This has no flavor. Not the fish, not the guacamole, not the sauce. I honestly don't think they used salt on ANYTHING. Seriously, is the store manager or anyone in corporate tasting this food? It was very bland and the shells were "tough". We also ordered Blood Orange Margaritas. $10 each so I had high expectations. Sounded super yummy. Well, you definitely get your money's worth of alcohol. But there's was little to no blood orange juice or any other flavor to it. Just pink tequila. The patio set up is cool. Adirondack chairs, games, picnic tables. They even had local musicians who were mediocre but it was nice background music. I have eaten out a lot in my life. This place wins, hands down, WORST MEAL EVER. We ordered the chicken, pork and jackfruit tacos along with the chips and guacamole. The chips and guacamole were passable. The tacos were an embarrassment. Served in a soft flour tortilla, the meat was dry and flavorless. The little radish strips and jalapeño pepper slices were the only things stopping me from choking on the meat. Not that there would be much to choke on. I'm not kidding when I say that there was a scant tablespoon of meat in each taco. To add insult to injury, the taco bottom fell out when the tacos were picked up. That in itself is puzzling since you would think moisture would have to be present in order for that to happen and believe me there was no moisture at all. Drier than dirt. 2 For $6 and they have to be the same. No mix and match. I guess they freeze the portions in 2 tablespoon increments to cover the 2 tacos. Spend your money elsewhere. I let my friend order before me, and he tried to mix & match (one chicken, one steak), but was told they don't do that. ....why? All tacos are 2/$8, so what's the reasoning? When I tried to mix and match tacos, they said, "no, the kitchen would be overwhelmed if we allowed people to do that". We sent them back and got chicken tacos which immediately fell apart once you picked them because they were so soggy. You have to serve you own water. Margaritas are small and cost $10 dollars.
