SERIOUSLY! MAKE SURE YOU READ THE LONG LIST OF 1-STAR REVIEWS!!! The reviewers are not lying or…read moreexaggerating. It's all true! This review is for the Public Storage facility located at 9520 San Ramon Valley Blvd., San Ramon, CA 94583 These guys really are the "crooks" that all the previous reviews say they are! Any positive reviews you happen to see are most likely from them, basically catfishing the public and trying to offset the numerous negative reviews they've received because I refuse to believe anyone is legitimately giving these pirates anything more than one or two stars, at best. This particular franchise is so bad we're filing a complaint with the corporate office and suggesting that they strip the owner(s) of their franchise rights! They are single handedly dragging the entire company, and possibly the entire storage industry down with them. Like so many other posts you'll read, what they do is lure you in with cheap pricing. We originally rented a 10'x35' space for what seemed like at the time a very fair and decent price. But within the first year they raised the prices three (3) times. Then most recently they contacted us stating that they were going to raise our rent from $458 /month to $732 a month!! Adding further insult to injury, the only explanation they would give us was, "it's what the market will bear." After we complained and informed them that we were leaving they tried to sweeten the deal and tell us they would only charge us $586 a month for the next month and then raise the rent again after that! AS IF THAT WAS SOME KIND OF INCREDIBLY SWEET DEAL!?! I have no doubt those conniving con artists will likely type some sort of rebuttal and try to claim that it wasn't their fault. But DO NOT believe them!!! These guys are nothing more than storage pirates and they're NOT TO BE TRUSTED!!! Here's how their scheme works... They lure you in with what appears to be an affordable and a reasonable price. Then they wait for you to get all your stuff moved into your space, and obviously if you're renting a 10'x35' space you probably have a car and/or a lot of stuff to move, right? Then after a couple of months they come back at you and start jacking up the price. All the while using the excuse, "that's the market price." What they're betting on is the fact that you very likely just spent a lot of time, money and effort to move in and don't have the time, the money or the will to move again so soon. We vacated our unit in mid-January 2026 and sadly we already know there is no way we're going to receive any sort of pro-rated refund. Again, as the previous reviews say, "they're crooks" and when have you ever heard of a crook offering you a refund? if they do, I'm sure it will come with the condition that I change my review. But you know what? F' them! It's worth the money to let the public know to drive right past these a-holes and go find someone, ANYONE else to rent the storage space they need. We found a great deal at Extra Space Storage on Alcosta Blvd., by the way. www.extraspace.com/ Lastly, even if you don't want to accept our review or the other 1-star reviews telling you that they are "crooks," be sure to check out the photos. (See the RAT DAMAGES!) The alley where all the largest storage spaces are located has barely enough space for two cars, and in several spots you can't fit two cars. In fact, people are frequently getting into arguments about not being able to pass and how it's a "one-way driveway" and you can't block it. However, if you're moving into or out of a 10'x35' space you very likely have a truck load of items and as a result you can't help but block the driveway. And yet... other people can file a complaint against you and end up causing you problems with your account. The one positive review I read recently was in regard to the app you can use to open the gates. BFD! Every storage facility has an app to open their gates. However, the thing with this facility is that the app frequently doesn't work. Some days it works, but most days it doesn't. And then there are the days when one gate works and the other doesn't. And there's never anyone around when you need them. Having no representatives on site is not a bonus. It shows a lack of care or attention to the business. or likely a fear of confronting the public with their complaints. Most of the tenants we've met can't stand this place, but they put up with it because of the convenience of their location. They only reason why I've giving them a 1 star rating is because you can't give anyone A ZERO STAR RATING! But that's what I would give these folks, zip, zero, nada, nothing, a big fat friggin' goose egg, no stars rating all the way around! Find someplace else. Try the Public Storage facility just North at 1925 San Ramon Valley Blvd, they may be better. They certainly have better reviews. Seriously, try anyplace else and don't get suckered into this location's scam. READ ALL THE 1-STAR REVIEWS!

I chose the latter as I do have a truck and I was able to get a shed in my backyard. This may be the practice in the industry, but personally it feels pretty scummy to me. We sent our kitchen assembly instructions ahead of time to make sure they were aware. My overall sense is that Carlos is fairly capable and experienced but either his team or him are not as careful as we had damages to our finished wood toe kicks and our lacquer cabinets looked like they had been dragged over nails as they were being assembled. I didn't appreciate that they made 0 mention of it at all and I had to point it out. As the homeowner, I essentially had to baby sit them for 5 days through the install since it felt like they were incapable / unwilling to read the kitchen cabinet installation instructions in detail and I caught several mistakes early on during the cabinet assembly that made me hesitant to leave it unattended. Carlos's attitude was particularly bad through the entire experience as well. Always made it seem like we were inconveniencing him or being too nit picky even if we caught some mistakes. At one point, he even threatened to quit after the assembly but before the installation simply because he had underestimated the complexity of the project. We did have a 1 day delay due to some plumbing / electrical issues but that's pretty typical as far as kitchen cabinet installations go AFAIK. In the end, they were able to get all the kitchen cabinets installed, albeit with a lot of effort from my end due to the more custom nature of the project. The price was affordable and the work was solid (minus the scratches) but for me the bad attitude wasn't worth it.

We all know how stressful moving can be, but Commander moving makes it seamless! From 1st contact with Lynette, who is super nice and helpful (she even called back the day before to recommend a 3rd person to help speed things along) all the way through the move, Commander makes sure your taken care of and that the stress is as minimal as possible. We had the pleasure of having Jessie 2, Milan and Francisco as our movers. Jessie called me to let me know he was at my storage unit for the 1st half of my move, which was great but he was 20 minutes early...which was even greater! I am a huge stickler for being somewhere on time, so I respected them being early and was ready to give 5 stars just based on that. Once I let them know what we were moving Jessie went into moving mode, got a game plan with Milan and Francisco and they were off. The entire time all three of these men were very professional and speedy but they took great care with everything AND they asked questions! I have had movers just assume and throw things wherever they felt, but not these guys. If they had any doubts about something they stopped and made sure before continuing. They didn't even complain when we found out another tenant was moving out at the same time thus the elevator was going to be very busy, but they threw themselves into it and still got me all moved in under 5 hours! 1 storage unit and 1 Jr. one bedroom moved to a house in under 5 hours, amazing. One other thing I noticed is safety, I saw three moving vans on my street this day and Jessie and team were the only ones with cones around there truck, I work in construction and SAFETY IS ALWAYS FIRST! That was impressive. My property manager even mentioned that we had the "good movers" because she had noticed how hard and fast they worked( the movers who arrived at the same time for another tenant didnt finish moving out until 1pm! thats 5 hours just to move out, I feel sorry for that tenant, they must have been moving all day!) I just can't say enough about how great this experience was. I highly recommend Commander moving for your move, the quote was accurate, the attention to detail was spectacular and their commitment to the customer was top notch! read more

These guys are the best movers we've ever had. For various reasons we've moved 6 times in the last 3 years and I wish so much that Commander Moving had moved us the first 5 times. Happily this is our last move, and of course it was the most complicated. Johnnie & Amos packed up our apartment carefully and quickly and were smiling the whole time. They really know what they are doing, because UNPACKING those boxes was a breeze. On our first move day (the apartment) Johnnie, Amos, Rory, Milan, Shamar, Jeremy & Slade took very special care of our things, loaded as quickly as they could and kept everything organized and running like clockwork. It was a "long carry" from our apartment to the trucks and they figured out right away how to maximize loading the elevators, etc. Our second move day (a completely filled 10x40 storage unit of furniture, fragiles and things so poorly moved & stacked by the last company we used - it became clear this was as difficult if not more so than the first move!) Johnnie, Amos, Slade & Jeremy returned bringing with them Robyn - and even though it was raining! they all worked quickly, carefully, and professionally. Keeping our things dry (thank you guys!!) wrapping the furniture that should have been wrapped by the last company we used (some SMALL local company), and organizing the trucks for as quick an unload as possible. They were AMAZING. When they got to our new home, they covered the floors with blankets, the stairs with a really cool mat so they wouldn't dent the stairs and really just moved as quickly and carefully as they could. There are always some snafus with every move. But this move, seriously, was the best one we've had. So, if you are looking for a good moving company, hire Commander, because they are a GREAT moving company. Oh, and the total bill? We just moved from Oakland to Monterey, and hired Commander moving. Vlad came by to do our estimate, and he was polite, clear, thorough, and fast. He gave us extra info about preparing for the move, and was clear about the estimate, maximums, and extra fees. Our move was scheduled for memorial day Sunday (despite that being the company's official day off of the week), and Vlad and Rory arrived promptly at 8am. Although we had packed a fair amount of our things, Vlad and Rory helped us pack the rest within 2 hours, including everything in the kitchen and hall closet, as well as a lot of smaller, hard to pack items. Happily, we have yet to find anything that broke in transit. Both Vlad and Rory were friendly, patient, and quick working (certainly compared to the 9 hours it took my partner and I to pack the first half of our things). When we arrived in Monterey, they unpacked everything in about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, we could not get our old couch in through the door (or window, despite removing the legs - - should have measured ahead of time), but they took the couch away for a small dump fee. I would definitely recommend the company, and especially Vlad and Rory. I can't think of anything that was poorly done or bothersome. I haven't found any serious dings or scratches from moving large / heavy furniture yet. Sometimes they bring a dog along, so if that helps you lower your moving stress, it is quite friendly (when out next to Rory), but if you are allergic or bothered by a dog, you may want to ask them to leave it in the moving truck. Lastly, it is definitely helpful if you reserve a space for them in front of your home for pickup...despite our apartment's items barely using a quarter of the available space in the truck, the truck is pretty big. read more

I picked Commander Moving on a friend's reference. Moving from the Delta to the Bay meant a long drive, so I was told that they'd arrive around 10 am and there would be 3 people. Around 9 am 2 guys appeared. They worked really hard to load everything and filled the truck but I had to leave some things behind as they wouldn't fit. Because they were short-staffed, they had to call in and get 2 more people to meet them at the destination so they could unload before they'd be past their allowed work time. Despite all the hassles we had, they remained cheerful and helpful and managed to get everything off the truck in record time. I had several pieces of furniture that needed really careful handling and they brought plenty of blankets and wrappings (and helped me to return some U-Haul boxes for a refund in the process!) Planning was definitely off, and we probably could have used a larger truck, but since they were willing to make the drive out to me (they usually stay around the Bay from what I gather) and were so highly recommended I felt like they really went above and beyond what they'd been told to expect. Since I'm a senior single woman, there was no way I could have managed this on my own, and I'm grateful for how kind and thorough they were. Now if I could only manage the unpacking of way too much stuff! Big thanks to the hardworking and cheerful guys who worked through their lunch hour and stretched themselves to the limit to bring me back to my home territory again!!! read more

Since I was coordinating moving belongings from two locations (one location being in southern California), I suddenly found myself on a tight schedule. Of the dozen or so moving companies I called, Commander was the only one that was willing to move their schedule around on such short notice. The two gentlemen that arrived moved swiftly and were enthusiastic; they didn't make me feel like I was wasting their time, but rather they were trying their hardest not to waste mine. It also helps a lot to have as much of your things boxed or packaged in advance. I understand some people don't want to have to buy new boxes for only a few days, and that Commander offers some resources in that regard, but they had all my things from my apartment loaded on the truck in about half an hour. I also personally believe you ought to pack important things yourself to ensure it will survive the trip (especially if it's valuable, like fine art). After bringing those belongings into the new apartment and finding out the truck from the other location was running late, the movers were polite and understanding. When the truck did arrive, they diligently went right back to work. Nothing was damaged, and their expedience finished the job under the 3 hour minimum despite the delays from the other truck. Great service, positive attitudes, and overall a great experience that alleviated a lot of the stress of the move. I highly recommend Commander. read more

I highly recommend the guys over at Commander Moving. As a local real estate agent I have used and referred many movers to many clients over the years. These guys have their act together. First it starts with their communication. They responded to my inquiry almost immediately to get a quote. The quote was satisfactory and comprehensive. I had a few questions along the way and Robert over in their office responded extremely fast. Then there was packing day. They showed up right on time and were very efficient and the packing crew was extremely polite. This was the first time I have ever I not packed my own things I'm and I will never pack another house again myself. The items were packed very tightly and neatly. On move day we were doing a long-distance move to Palm Springs and I was a little nervous about some of the higher value items. They packed items very tightly and the move was very efficient. They arrived in Palm Springs the next day and unpacked everything in 98° weather and got everything into the house very quickly. The two movers that drove down with the truck were awesome guys. They were very courteous and very respectful of our belongings and our home. Again as a real estate agent I've used many movers and highly recommend these folks for your next move! read more

I cannot say enough about my experience with Commander Moving. This is my second time using them and I would purposefully find a reason to move just to work with them again. Aside from the obvious stuff like safe handling and transport of your goods, they are also friendly, trustworthy (as in accidentally left a pair of Chanel earrings, and a checkbook in one of my drawers and was reunited with them immediately upon arrival trustworthy), efficient and affordable. They are more concerned with managing the move to meet your estimate costs and the condition of your goods than you'll ever be. Who can ask for anything more? Today, I moved my mom into an assisted living facility which was a hard time for both of us. Upon explaining the situation to our moving team, they totally kept us smiling and laughing (for free). They were so kind and respectful to my mother, all while getting us moved and set up in no time flat. You can't put a price on kindness. I'm a huge fan of these movers. The customer service for booking the move was perfect--Ruth was kind, good-humored, thorough, and detail-oriented. I had a complicated move with multiple stops, but the movers (Adam, Rigo, and Manny) got everything right and showed up on time, ready to work. They were friendly and fun to work with, but also highly efficient and focused (and strong!). They worked faster than any movers I've ever hired, even with some very long hallways to navigate, and they took great care of my (beloved, high-end) furniture and other possessions. Nothing was damaged like in prior moves, and they were kind enough to accommodate some special instructions and needs without making me feel high-maintenance. Adam took the lead and communicated with me every step of the way, explaining any documents he asked me to sign as well as pricing, so there were no surprises. He was highly professional and made me feel taken care of. Truly the best. The commander? The almighty commander? what else is there to say, these guys were not only pretty fast, they were CAREFUL with all my belongings. I actually own a lot of antiques, big collection, not one scratch, they have everything to safely move your things and I was even more confident with them moving everything after Karel's GREAT customer service. He made me feel confident everything I owned was in safe hands. The price to move was reasonable and even if he wanted to raise the price in the middle of my move, I would have gladly said yes due to the sensitivity of my antiques. His staff was very friendly, respectful and dealing with my neurotic control freak ways....I highly respect anyone who can get away with that for one day. :) Thanks Karel and crew! If you have experienced moving - that is boxing-in all your old life and then getting it all out at a new place - you know you can get quite busy by managing all that 'old place to new place' transition. In my case, this major transition was from Santa Ana to San Fran. So, I will keep it sweet and short. Because that is exactly what would be the best description of my experience with guys from the Commander Moving. The moving was painless with them, if you can say this about moving at all. Karel, the Commnader (wow), was easy to communicate with, always cool, and responding rather promptly to all my curious and urgent emails/calls. The moving process all worked out as negotiated and agreed upon prior the action. No confusion, no vague promises or statements. The final cost reflected the initial estimate; price was fair. The movers were efficient (time- and work-wise) and did not make any damage, skilled in wrapping things. These guys were awesome! From the first phone call to the very last item off the truck they were great to work with. The office staff was friendly and efficient. Karel came by to give me my estimate and followed up again once I moved my storage items back to the house. The day of the move the guys showed up right on time and began working straight away. Karel stopped in to see how things were going as well. The day I moved turned out to be the hottest day so far this year. These 4 guys worked tirelessly to move my treasures 130 miles away. They worked 12 long hours ensuring all my belongings made it safe and sound. I've unpacked about 100 boxes and so far not a single thing has been damaged. They were all friendly, polite, efficient and the amount of wrapping they did to ensure my items were safe was impressive I can't thank Rory, Vlad, Mike and Gavin enough for all the hard work they did. This was our first time using a moving company and Commander Moving was wonderful! Jesus and Sam were friendly, helpful, and worked carefully and quickly. We appreciated their thoroughness and honesty throughout the process. Before our Saturday afternoon move, I received several phone updates from the office and then from Jesus with continual estimates on their arrival time, which was great. The original apartment and new place are both on small, cramped urban streets. Jesus expertly navigated the parking situation and was kind and collaborative to neighbors needing to get by. This was my biggest anxiety with moving and I was so grateful for their understanding and assurance that they would be accommodating to the neighborhood. All of our belongings made it to our new place with no damage, including a large LCD TV and lots of fragile glassware. Thank you Jesus and Sam! THANK THE HEAVENS FOR THIS MOVING COMPANY! I was in a bind, needing a moving company at the last minute and I am SO HAPPY that I found them. From my first call, to my estimate, to the move, every interaction with Commander Moving was friendly and personable. They really care about my moving experience and were willing to help with anything that came our way. I had the change the date, no problem! No cancellation fee, not even a grumble of disappointment. My apartment is on the third floor, no problem! The crew moved up and down the stairs with ease and were in high spirits the whole time. We were even visited by the owner, Karel. He just stopped by to check on the crew and to make sure that everything was going well. I really did appreciate that. Fantastic moving company! We reached out to them because of their good reviews and hired them because they were able to do a walkthrough, give us an estimate, and schedule the move in a very short amount of time. Then we had to postpone our move by a few days, and they were extremely flexible. When they arrived to do the move, I gave them a bunch of directions and made some specific requests regarding different items, and they took it all in stride. We had all sorts of stuff, big and small, and they got right to work, quickly and efficiently packing everything. The guys who did my move, Adam, Manny, and Luis, accommodated every request I made, and let me know whenever they had a question. Not only did they deliver everything in perfect condition, they took a lot of stress out of the process for me. I'd hire them again in a second, and recommend them to anybody. I could not be happier with my Commander Moving experience. David, John, and Michael (our movers) were miracle workers. In addition to moving faster than I imagined (even based on the estimate- we were out of my old place hours before I thought we would be), they managed to do something I thought impossible: get a very heavy, gym-grade elliptical up very old, narrow, winding stairs with a very low ceiling. I honestly cannot believe it happened. Miracles aside, David, John, and Michael were pleasant, polite, kind, and cheerful. Just their presence made the move less stressful. What an unexpected bonus! We also quite appreciated having someone over to give us an estimate before even booking the move. Big thanks to Ira and his crew for moving us in December! We had a two-part move from our 1,100 sq ft house. Most of our items went into a 16ft POD, and the other portion of our items were loaded into their truck and moved to our temporarily house. Ira diligently ensured his crew understood which items moved into the POD and which items moved to new house. They carefully took apart our larger furniture pieces - beds, large book shelf, etc and protected with blankets. The crew expertly packed the POD to ensure all our items fit securely. At the new house, they setup beds and moved our remaining boxes FAST. We'll need them again when we move back into our house, and we'll absolutely use Commander Moving again. These guys were great from start to finish. We had an easy, friendly and straight forward estimate meeting with Karel, with an easy confirmation later through email. Everything was clear and well laid out. On the day of the move, the guys - Jim, Lavell and Mike - arrived 15 minutes early and got right into it, knocking out the entire move in half the time estimated. We had everything well prepped and stacked, plus we moved some things over before on our own, which all helped, but they really hustled and got it done. Ultimately, that saved us a ton of money, which was fantastic. And, even though they were quick with everything I don't think we found a single item damaged. And all the while they were cracking jokes and having a good time, which made it less stressful for us. Highly recommended! read more

It has been a little over a month since I had Commander Moving handle my move. I was impressed with everyone I was in contact with. Karel, the manager was extremely professional and a very nice person to work with. As mentioned in the other reviews, he responded to my e-mails very quickly. The movers were the hardest working guys (3 of them) that I have seen. They were friendly and efficient. I was so happy to have them provide the wardrobe boxes. My clothes were hung up as they were before my move. They made sure all of my furniture (outside planters too) was placed exactly where I wanted it. 1st let me state that I am a business in OHIO and had to hire a moving company to pick-up 60 cartons in a building/storage unit and then once they got them back to their place. Arrange them on to pallets and ship them to via a LTL (less than truckload) carrier to me in OHIO. The 1st company I called explained they couldn't do what I needed, but suggested COMMANDER MOVING. So I called them and to my surprise the said no problem we can do that for you. I provide them with all the information and they showed up exactly on time and the person that had to let them in the storage unit, said they were prompt and professional. Commander Moving is absolutely the best of the best! I had to reschedule my move multiple times due to difficulties closing with our original lender, and Karel and Robert were always so incredibly kind and graciously handled all the logistics of rescheduling. Commander showed up with 2 trucks and 6 men to move all our items out of 2 very large storage units. I thought they were going to have to make two trips, but they did it in one! The guys could not have been nicer or more professional. And because our new driveway is curved and up a hill the trucks couldn't drive up, so they carried and pulled everything up. Their strength and determination was unreal and unbelievably appreciated. It was easiest and most pleasant moving experience I'm sure I'll ever have. read more

However, both of my 70" TVs were broken (screens all messed up) when I tried to turn them on. (I remembered both had been moved in the van while standing on their short end. I looked this up after finding them broken, and I found that standing TVs on the short end is not the way to store them, as it puts pressure on the screen in a way it was not designed to bear. Especially in a bouncing moving van!) And my bookstand with wheels had one broken wheel (probably they forgot to unlock the wheels before trying to move it). Ugh. Later, the main mover guy texted to ask me to give them a good review at a different link than the one I had used to write this Yelp review. I let him know about the TVs (I had not discovered the book case yet). And he made a big deal over how this had never happened to them before and his guys were so upset and how they didn't do anything wrong. And then he said I could file a claim with the company but asked me to say they had not done anything wrong, everything had been packed right. Well, clearly not the case! And not my problem to protect his ego. Double ugh. I made a 1.5 hour round trip drive to drop off the TVs at a free electronic recycle. I'll go to Costco to try and replace these TVs. They were probably only each worth 100 when broken, but I'll have to pay a lot more than that to replace them. A serious drag.
