The design of the Comme Ci Comme Ca food truck has a lot going on and nothing about it says "Moroccan." I finally stopped and read the menu one day and was surprised that they had cous cous, merguez sausages, and other items beyond the "chicken and rice" I assumed they served. Considering midtown prices, the $11 bowls (rice or cous cous) or salads from Chef Samir are a pretty good deal. I've tried all of their protein items and they're all very flavorful and tasty. None of the food strikes me as very greasy or unhealthy and whether you're a vegetarian or a carnivore, this truck has a lot to offer. I am partial to their cous cous and the accompanying vegetables are a favorite. I usually get two items that I rotate based on my my mood during each visit and don't have any one in particular that stands out. Regardless of what you choose, your chances of being disappointed are slim. I want all the meat. That's why I rocked the Cous Cous Royal.* It's got the lemon chicken, the beef, the merguez AND the kofta. Now that I've had all the meat though, I think I would just stick to the chicken (shockingly enough). It was cheaper, moist and delicious. And next time, I'd probably say "a tiny bit hot" when Chef Samir asks, because evidently "a little hot" means "light a fire in my mouth and make me cry." It's not Chef Samir's fault that I can't handle the heat though, and he was very, very nice. Almost too nice. I'm a little bit suspicious of anyone who stands in a hot truck serving food all day and is that nice. The flavors are reminiscent of what you might get at a halal cart, but I'm assuming (read: hoping) the ingredients are of a bit higher quality. Saw this truck parked near Old Slip Park in the FiDi one day and since I was in need of a new lunch spot decided to hit it up. I saw a decent line forming outside of this truck at about 12:30pm and was curious about the small buzz developing. I did some research on Yelp and the next thing I knew I was at the front of the line ordering. I gave the Lemon Chicken Cous Cous a try. I'm not an expert on Cous Cous, nor do I prefer it over rice, but since I rarely eat it I thought why not. The order came in a huge aluminum tray, reminiscent of the The Halal Guys truck trays. Unfortunately, the tray was not filled to the brim, but the serving size was more filling than I anticipated. The order included lots of cous cous (as it should have) and chicken. Sides inside the dish comprised of large chunks of potatoes, carrots/yams and chick peas. The cous cous, potatoes and carrots were good, but the lemon chicken was a disappointment. I felt like I was eating a regular chicken and rice dish substituted with cous cous instead. The chicken was pretty much like halal meat and did not have any lemon flavor or sign of seasoning. As I said disappointing, especially at $9! I'll probably have to give other dishes a try from here, but at the steep prices they are selling them at it's hard to want to come back after a letdown like that. read more

I had the Royale combo over Basmati Rice which has a little bit of everything (lemon chicken, beef, kofta, and merguez). Chef Samir is a great guy! He always has the biggest smile on his face when he takes your order (and asks for your name, so they can call you when they're done). The food is also amazing. The lemon chicken over rice was heavenly with white and a little spicy Andalusian sauce. I've also had the beef brochette and the beef kofta over rice. Both were good, but the lemon chicken blew them out of the water. Definitely plan on trying everything on the menu. Only bad thing is that we saw someone with a punch card for a free meal after X orders (I assume 10), and when we asked about it, they said they were out. I've been wanting to try the food here for ages, so when I saw the truck parked on 38th & Broadway this morning, I was set to buy lunch from here. I finally went to the truck at 12.30, starving, and there was already a small line. They took my order quick and I got it within less than 15 minutes. I ordered the Merguez Couscous w/ Mint Ice Tea.. The couscous was A-MAZING!!!! It was fluffy and slightly more creamier than what I'm used to having. Piled on top with the spicy merguez & yummy vegg (squash, carrots, zucchini) it was perfection. The sauces are great, definitely go a bit heavy on it. If you don't like spicy, make sure to not get the spicy sauce because IT'S HOT! The mint tea was good, I liked the fact that they actually brew the tea with mint leaves. It's such a breath of fresh air to have Moroccan food in midtown, especially when you start getting bored with the food available around here. Reader beware! Once you've tasted this food truck, well the rest of the food trucks just don't feel right. Hmm...maybe I'm being a bit carried away but give me a chance to first explain myself. After all, this is the land of the free and the home of the hungry. You come up to the truck and you see some logos, some awesome art on the truck, and usually a long line of hungry customers. Chef Samir is just an overall amazing person. He brings it out not only in his interaction with his customers but it just beams out. So now let's get to the meat of why I'm writing this review. Before you continue, check out my picture because after all, pictures speak volume. I got the lemon chicken cous cous with Casablanca sauce and some other red spicy sauce. Whole chickpeas, eggplant, carrots, sweet potatoes, tender juicy perfectly seasoned chicken. I mean, when I give a review like this we are usually talking about full blown establishments but this is coming out of a food truck! Comme Ci Comme wha?! This whimsical food truck meandering around midtown was close by, so a coworker and myself decided to check it out. The design of the food truck is comical, to say the least, with Chef Samir painted on the side covering himself with an umbrella from falling vegetables. Indeed, Chef Samir and his assistant are two soft-spoken, yet jovial guys that you can find yourself talking to for a few minutes. Although some Mediterranean dishes such as Moroccan Kofta and Mergez were being offered, I decided to stick with what I knew for my first try of this truck. I ordered the Lemon Chicken Platter ($6.00), served with caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes, green peppers, green olives, and spices. The chicken was of the dark meat variety. And we all love dark meat because of its tender and juiciness, caused from the abundant hemoglobin, or large amounts of oxygen in the blood. Dark meat doesn't take a lot to make it tasty over its lighter cousin, white meat, but Chef Samir did a good job adding spices to amp up the flavor profile. The lemon chicken is served over a bed of basmati rice, a spoonful of soft chickpeas, and a side salad consisting of spinach, which is a refreshing take from the typical generic lettuce that almost every other food truck serves. Chef Samir's whimsical attitude trickles down to the name of his sauces: - Green Olive Sauce - Spicy Mint Sauce (green sauce) - Spicy Andalusian Sauce (hot sauce) - Casablanca Sauce (white sauce) I tried three of their sauces, the spicy andalusian sauce, or better in street terminology as hot sauce. It was thick in consistency and have some noticeable heat so go easy on it if you're not a huge spice eater. The spicy mint sauce was good, didn't taste like much which left nothing to be desired. Any notion of mint flavor was unnoticeable. The white sauce was yummy in all its thick and creamy goodness. Also worth noting: While we waited for our food, I asked for a piece of the Merguez, lamb sausage, which was placed on the grill for several minutes and then sliced. It was tender and flavorful, a little on the gamey (lamb) side, but good enough to warrant me to possibly order this dish on my next visit. My coworker had ordered the Chicken with Cous Cous ($8.00). I tried the cous cous and was delighted that such a truck would serve something fairly unique from the rest of the food truck competition, and he got it right. The cous cous was cooked through to softness, taking away the grittness. Another thumbs up that I wouldn't mind getting in substitution of the typical rice. In all, Comme Ci Comme Ca serves up some unique dishes ranging from Moroccan Kofta, Merguez, cous cous and more. Prices are definitely higher, but considering the items they serve, prices are fair and portions are slightly generous. This is my go to place for lunch in mid-town Manhattan. Bottom line the food is great, it's under $10 and you get lots of food for you buck. Currently the big green truck parks on 36th between Broadway and 6th on Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays. But who knows when the police are going to start cracking down on food trucks and their parking habits again as they did last summer. Comme Ci Comme Ca has been coming around for about a year now and I've been going at least once a week for just as long. Before the truck won rookie of the year at the Vendie Awards and was voted street meat of the year by Midtown Lunch I used to be able to talk to Chef Sammir about the truck and everything, he is a good guy. So the food, everything is really good. My go to lunch is the simple lemon chicken over rice. You get a ton of chicken over the perfectly cooked rice. You also get a small mescaline salad, a spoonful of chick peas and a spoonful onion relish (I usually ask for an extra scoop of each because they are so good mixed in with the rice and chicken). On top I get Casablanca sauce (the usual street meat white sauce but better) and the spicy mint sauce. Chef Sammir also offers a spicy red and his green olive sauces which are both very good, the red sauce is certainly spicy though. If I'm really hungry I'll ask the guys to add some of the roasted vegetables (squash, zucchini, etc) from the couscous on my place as well which are all very yummy. For the money ($7, used to be $6 as of a week ago) you really can't beat it. The other meal I turn to when very hungry is the basmati royale. It features the same rice and sides as the chicken but it then adds all of the meats on top; chicken, lamb kofta, merguez sausage and beef! The meats are all grilled to order on a grill in the back so it has a great charred meat flavor then it's all piled on the rice, pick your sauces and you are good to go. The royale plate starts to get expensive (now $11, used to be $10) but there is some really high quality meats on this plate. Comme Ci Comme Ca also offers couscous platters where you can get any of the above meats over couscous and roasted vegetables. The couscous is good but not great so I prefer the rice. They also offer sandwiches made with any of the meats of which I have yet to try. As I've mentioned, Chef Sammir has recently raised his prices $1 across the board. I've heard the portions are a bit bigger but even plus $1 it's all worth it. If you feel like this might become a lunch place you add to your regular rotation make sure you ask for the punch card. After 10 meals you get your next one free! With the increase in price it appears that Comme Ci Comme Ca will start to serve dinner soon but a date has not yet been set for this. This is from my first visit to Chef Samir's food truck. This was parked right next to the dumpling and noodle cart, at the intersection of Water St and Hanover Square. I had the Moroccan Kofta Brochette - ground beef mixed with a blend of mild spices, onion and cilantro, served with caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes, green peppers and green olives. I opted for the spicy and white sauces. The portion size was just perfect - a decent 8 inches of bread with just enough stuffing to make it filling but not overly so. Unlike the gyro-on-pita sandwiches, which need an afternoon nap just to soak them in. I was happy right from the first bite - the flavors were rich, the meat tasty, and olives and the sauces added a very pleasing "Mediterranean" touch to it. This truck is some next level shit. Gyro guys beware, Comme Ci Comme Ca is about to be all up in your Griswold family christmas so you are going to need to step your game up or face ruin at the hands of a smiling, gap-toothed Moroccan man. Basically this place is like the evolution of the gyro guy. Imagine a gyro guy but with like, a meaingful variety of well-spiced meats beyond just the standard chicken/lamb paradigm, a whole array of sauces, hearty yet not greasy platters, and a spiffy truck. The guy who runs it is warm and polite and kept the line moving without being gruff at all. Also they have a perk card so when you buy 9 meals you get the tenth free, or something like that, I didn't read the fine print. I got rice with Kofta, which are like little patties of spiced ground beef. There was so much great food, and a lot of variety on the plate. It had rice, two or three piles of some random flavorful moroccan stuff, a little salad, and four or five pieces of kofta. I got mine with standard white sauce and also the spicy mint sauce, which was super tasty. For $7 it's a pretty good price by Midtown standards. If you are at all a fan of street meat you need to wipe the cheeto dust from under your yellow fingernails and put this in your gaping craw right now. Do it. read more

Its been a couple of years now since a colleague told me about the Moroccan truck that comes by my office on Thursdays. Now every Thursday is a struggle as I try to convince myself that I should have another boring salad in my feeble battle against my slow metabolism. Invariably on most Thursdays I loose that battle to Comme Ci Comme Ca. I fall victim to the Cous Cous Royale, which I ask for with extra vegetables and the spicy green sauce. I don't mind standing in the hot sun, or on a chilly day. I don't mind the flimsy fork that they give me, or the long wait on most days. It's all worth it when I get back to the office and taste that fluffy couscous, sink my teeth into the merguez, and savour the perfectly cooked vegetables. read more

Lately I've been trying lots and lots of food cart foods including a lot of halal carts, and honestly, this truck has been my favorite. I usually don't go browsing other sites for food recommendations, but for Food Trucks, i guess i need to since their locations vary. I was browsing a site New York Food Truck blog - and one of the locations listed that was close to my area was this. I was also given a personal recommendation from the blogger that this food will blow my mind. Did it blow said mind? DAMN STRAIT IT DID!! My mind was blown out the Wah Zoo! I had the Lemon Chicken with Salad over Basmati Rice with a little chick peas and onions. The Chick peas and onions came with the meal and the salad i think was spinach. The chicken was grilled to perfection - seasoned to be flavorful without overpowering the chicken flavor. I had some hot sauce as well as their Mint Sauce as that is what the cook recommended to me. The mint sauce was light and minty, while the hot sauce was very potent. So remember that, hot sauce = Not to be joked with. I loved the hot sauce since i love that spicy kick! The Onions were caramelized with a sweetness to them that gave a refreshing change of flavor from the chicken and rice. The chick peas were also cooked well (but since i don't eat chick peas often i'm like eh take it or leave it, still good though) - the salad was also take it or leave it - as it was just pretty much spinach. Lastly everything came over a bed of Basmati Rice. I don't know what they do to their rice because it's flavorful, fluffly and not oily (like other food trucks...that's right XPL i'm looking at you!). I heard their Cous Cous is very good as well - gotta try that next time. For $6.00 you get all this food. A dollar more than most other halal carts - but this is Mediterranean food! Chef Samir might be a newcomer to the mobile food craze but with food like this, he's sure to make a name for himself. He serves up amazing Morrocan food with a smile at an affordable cost. I'm sold. So far, I've tried the Mogador burger, the Mergez in both sandwich and platter form and the cous cous. Everything has been delicious. But, that mergez is a standout. I've heard only good things about the chicken but I can never seem to bring myself to try it. The mergez always calls to me. He offers a choice of four distinct sauces that can please even the most diverse crowds. My favorite would have to be his spicy mint sauce. What strikes me most about Chef Samir is that his food is never, ever heavy or greasy. He's completely elevated my standards as far as what I now expect from a food truck. 3.5/5 for me I found this on 52/park for lunch and decided to give it a shot because of the great reviews from the actual restaurant. Good assortment of cous cous and rice beds for meat and veggies. They also have sandwiches and specials of the day which vary. They accept credit cards and are relatively quick, even during lunchtime rush hours. Overall, the lunch serving is reasonably priced under $10 and it is a healthy serving of your daily protein, grain and veggies. A more appropriate French phrase for this truck would be "Tres Bien" or "Super Choutte" or "Mon dieu! C'est delicieux!". Really, it's hard to exaggerate how damn good the food is. I don't know what magic goes on in that truck but I'm sure there's a dissertation to be written on the most economically effective utilization of cooking space using Comme Ci Comme Ca as a case study. The cous cous is phenomenal and every single meat is seasoned to perfection. The sauces are great too; the mint sauce especially elevates the selection from your standard street meat. I've been working downtown for the past three months and the thing I miss the most about midtown without a doubt lunch on Wednesdays when Comme Ci Comme Ca parks on 52nd. Vendy Awards, WATCH OUT! This new cart in town is comin to getchu! So first off, because I have a half an hour lunch break and work right next to the financial district now, I now need to get the closest edible lunch for a reasonable price as possible (doesn't everybody?) So while walking to work, I see a peculiar new truck parked in front of my workplace, in place of Shnitzel and things. Immediately I walked over to it to look at the menu. Amused, and seeing how it wasn't open yet, patiently awaited lunch break, and boy was that wait worth it. First off the prices were VERY reasonable, second FOR that price you got AMAZING quality. Folks this is a place, where you get BOTH quality, AND quantity. I got the lemon chicken over rice, and was VERY pleased with it, made to order unlike Halal carts, and comes with some leafy salad that I don't know of, along with chick peas, and bean like substance. The food was amazing. SADLY, I know that the financial district isnt there main location, so I cant eat from here everyday, but if given the chance, and I say IF, I gladly would. read more

One of the better food trucks in the midtown lunch scene. My go-to here is the lemon grilled chicken over cous cous, which is served with a healthy portion of carrots, chickpeas and other veggies with your choice of sauces. Personally, I like to take it easy on the mayo-based sauces, so I opt for the spicy mint (made with yogurt) and the spicy andalusian (red). At $9, it is a decent value considering the amount of chicken and is a good portion for lunch without the dreaded post-lunch itis that you would normally get with chicken over rice. Very friendly service and you can clearly tell that the guys here truly take pride in their craft, which is always refreshing. Have got food from here a few times. Mostly couscous bowls and have been happy. Got the rice bowl today with lemon chicken. Didn't taste any better than the $8 chicken over rice bowls you can get in normal trucks. The difference was just that it was $11 here. Menu said rice, salad, hummus and lemon spinach. Got like watered down hummus and no spinach. Disappointed. Surprised that even the sauces didn't taste good like before. read more

I like my food just like I like my men apparently! WIN-WIN! While I've had fluffier/better tasting cous cous, the array of perfectly seasoned meat, and awesomely prepared chickpeas, carrots, cabbage, and squash in my lemon chicken dish with white sauce was ridiculously good and.... HEALTHY! Holy shit, I think we hit the mother-load! You KNOW it's good when I'm crossing PARK AVE w my open container still scooping forkfuls... Couldn't wait to sit! I wouldn't even classify this as street meat. The quality and taste far surpasses that category. You may spend a buck or two more than the smaller cart vendors in some areas, but the value is amazing. And its a ton of food. Lemon chicken over rice is amazing for 7 bucks. If you want a true feast, with tons of food, meat and veg, try the cous cous plates for about 9. 36th and Broadway on Tues, Thurs and Fri. read more

I have been stalking this truck online since the truck opened. It sounded really interesting but Chef Samir kept ending up in the hospital for some reason. Then I got pregnant and was scared to eat any street/truck food for the next 9 months. Of course, I had to give birth in the winter and I work crosstown...so... Finally the weather was nice enough for me to head out to the east side to get this. I went with the Cous Cous Royale because I knew I wanted to try EVERYTHING ! - everything except the lamb. I mean, I've waited long enough, right ? Plus I worjked off the calories before I even got there ! The sauces are fantastic - though I liked one of the white ones a lot more than the others. Not sure what was what.Highly recommend asking for more sauces. He had very little on the plate itself and I pour all three containers on my food and ran out at the end (very very light sauces). The chicken, beef, kofta came on a bed of cous cous and grilled veggies (lots of squash of some sort) - so delicious. It was a lot of food but the food was light and I felt pretty good still after eating ALL Of it. Kofta was good - but not amazing, and I just wasn't really in the mood. The beef was a little too chewy - do not recommend. But the real show stealer out of the three was definitely the chicken. Not your usual street meat - they were nice, flavorful chunks of chicken. HIGHLY RECOMMEND !! The food is definitely unique. The next time I think I will get Chicken with basmati (to try something different) - and extra sauces....maybe some chicken or veggie cigars ! read more

WOWzaaa. I have walked by this truck so many times and never tried it. I wish someone told me how tasty this place was earlier. The chicken and rice platter here is definitely different from the other carts in the area. I could taste the ethnic authenticity in each bite! The spices, the tender chicken, the chickpeas, yummmmmmy. Their chicken cous cous is also delicious. Definitely try this truck out. They've been featured on a bunch of tv shows too. read more

We had a great time eating from Comme Ci Comme Ca. I contacted Samir a little under 48 hours before an event I was having at Royal Palms Shuffleboard (where they would be stationed for the day). Samir was very responsive over email and promised me a platter that would feed 16 people...and boy did he deliver! There was hummus, fries, pita, various dips, falafel, wraps, chicken kebabs and beef kebabs. The falafel was literally fried to perfection and everyone devoured the fries. The hummus was amazingly spiced and the wraps were delicious. Everyone enjoyed the kebabs as well!! The platters were brought out within 10 minutes of our start time at Royal Palms, which was perfect. There was also more than enough food - everyone kept munching for the whole two hours! I highly recommend this food truck - both for the quality/taste of the food and the pleasantness of the owner. read more
