You'll probably first notice this restaurant because if it's beautiful blue tile exterior. I walked past this place all the time before finally giving it a try - can't believe it too me so long because it's so good. First off, the have a variety of pastries. So far my favorites include the Malva cake and the key lime white chocolate. But you can't go wrong with any of them. Food wise I have tried a lot. I would recommend their Cobb salad, tomatoes soup, the French dip with a side of fries. Make sure to check out their specials. They are always amazing. If they have their avocado toast, I always opt for that. You can add an egg top for $2 and it's AMAZING! For coffee, I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would. Not bad by any means, but a milder blend off coffee. I usually opt for just their drip coffee. I have not made it to their brunch yet, but I've only heard good things about it. We only stopped in for some water and kombucha but I loved this place! the decor is awesome, with blue tiled floor and walls and they have so many yummy sounding sandwiches on their menu! This is a very cool restaurant in the heart of downtown Dallas with great service. The food is alway fresh and served promptly regardless of whether you are picking up or dining in. For lunch I've had the quinoa salad and it's very delicious, great choice of ingredients and portioned perfectly. They also have one of the best burgers I've had In the downtown Dallas area. The Chai had great spice but was not cloyingly sweet like some Chai's I have tasted before. I absolutely loved the oatmeal, it was a large portion that I could almost not finish. This place has redeem itself with their meatball sub and Italian hero. These two sandwiches are my go-to every time I visit the Commissary. The baguette is always baked fresh to perfection. The exterior is crispy, yet the inside is soft and fluffy, which makes for the perfect sandwich bread. I've had Italian Heros at many places, but none of them compares to the Italian Hero here at the commissary. Every ingredient is layered just right, so that when you bite into the sandwich, you can taste the salami, pepperoni, cappicola, and all of the fresh veggies. The meatball sub is a popular hot sandwich here, and after devouring it on 2 occasion... I understand why. The meatball is always moist and flavorful. Not over seasoned nor under seasoned. The marina sauce is great and I love the fresh basil that garnished on top. I always have to get extra marina sauce to dip my sub in after each bite. I am glad that I decided to the Commissary another chance, because now it's one of my favorite places to dine in for lunch. I can't believe I haven't written a review of the Commissary. What keeps me coming back are the bakery items. The full loaf of seeded bread will often go on sale in the evenings for like $2 and it's amazing and delicious. You can also buy a slice of it (note they'll toast it unless you specify otherwise). I also love their financier which is just the right of sweetness and the perfect guilty pleasure. I've probably also tried everything on their breakfast menu at this point. The egg sandwich is delicious if not particularly healthy - the bread really soaks up the oil from the aoili and chicken sausage - but the flavors meld just together perfectly and love the soft fluffy bread used for this sandwich. Porchetta egg sandwich makes even less of an attempt to be healthy but the porchetta is delicious and a good option if you're feeling particularly hungry. Smoked salmon bagel comes with a generous amount of salmon but I'm not as big a fan of the bagel as it's pretty dense. Breakfast tacos were a weak point when I tried it. Butchers breakfast is good in concept but I don't personally like it in execution - eggs are extremely buttery, which I dislike, and I'm not a huge fan of the cooked greens which are bitter and oily. But I have friends who love it so it's a matter of personal preference. Oatmeal was yummy and relatively decadent for hot oatmeal, but at the end of the day still oatmeal. The fruit cups here are also extremely mediocre, skip them at all costs. Avocado toast is quite good with ample amounts of avocado and option to add an egg. Ultimately nothing at the Commissary works for me as a daily go-to breakfast (esp considering the prices) but I can see it being good for a brunch / as a slightly decadent breakfast spot. read more

This is, by far, the worst restaurant that I have ever been to in Dallas. Period. This includes every single fast food restaurant, as well. Exploring downtown for some new places to eat, you see this cute blue building off in the distance. It's so out of place from all the other gray offices and hotels, it grabs your attention. You go in and see a very modest menu of some sandwiches and salads, and you say to yourself, "looks like a cute diner." You place an order for one of their sandwiches and sit down. People around you are eating happily or working and drinking coffee. Your food arrives. One bite. Get up, leave. Go to the nearby Chick-fil-A to wash the most ungodly and awful taste out of your mouth. This has been my experience twice at this place. First time, a friend and I ordered a burger. To me, it tasted and felt like wet meat. Why would you want the bold, buttery flavors of a nice Chick-fil-A sandwich for $4 when you can have wet meat for $10 + tip? Sounds insane right? So okay. Burger sucks. Whatever. That's fine. They have so many other things to choose from. So let me go with 2 other people and we'll all order different things, and try them all. Pulled Pork - tastes like it came out of a can. I've never tasted pulled pork that obscenely bad. How can anyone make pulled pork this bad? And $9? Okay. French Dip - tastes and smells like fish. How is that possible? It's beef?! What?? Roast Beef - I actually refused to eat this one. I could smell the cheese from across the table, and it smelled like actual garbage. My friend attempted to eat it by covering his nose, but no luck. Had to put it down after 1 bite. Each of us had just 1 bite of our respective meals, and then of each other's, and then left to find something better. Now to be fair, the owner did give one of my friends a "free entree + coffee" ticket for the awful experience, but we won't be using that ever. This place is so awful, that even if they offered me free lunch everyday for a year or permanently, I would not take advantage of it. It IS that bad. And I am beyond serious. I have no idea how you can serve any of those items and not feel like you've compromised your morals doing so. I have no idea how anyone can eat any of these things. Never again. read more

I ordered a chai tea ($4.00) and the Butcher's Breakfast ($12.00) with the kale salad and the pork sausage. The chai tea was delicious and comes in a small cup. The breakfast wasn't good. The eggs taste the same way mine do so that's fine. The sausage gave off that smell/taste of something bring in the fridge longer than necessary.The bacon fell apart and tasted like pork rinds which I detest. It wasn't even crispy. It was mostly fat. The kale salad was sauteed but not my favorite. I did find it strange that their payment system askes to tip before even paying. It won't let you past the screen until you tip. Also, a waitress approached me to take the plate away before I even finished. I had only taken a bite of the egg and had just received the plate some 5 minutes prior from another waiter. read more

I live right across the street from the Commissary and I LOVE it! My favorite breakfast place and such yummy sandwiches. For breakfast I'll get an avocado toast with an egg on top or I'll get a chorizo breakfast taco - You can't go wrong with either. They also make a lavender latte which I didn't even know was a thing before trying it here and if you haven't tried one before, I highly recommend! For lunch, I recommend the Banh mi and substitute the tofu for chicken - Wow, perfect spicy and crunchy and just delicious! They also sell super yummy bakery goods which are always rotating. Really good different place! Always try and come when I am in Dallas. Coffee is fantastic; they serve lesser known roaster (to me)! It is a North Carolina brand called Counter Culture - bit rustic and a dash chocolate-flavor - I find it hits the spot and perfect balance of flavors (w/ pre-requisite caffeine). The place is always clean and very presentable. I find the staff completely on top of their game and very customer-first approach. Most importantly the food is really good. I most often have done the breakfast sandwich which they do with their own bread (baked on premise) - delicious poppy seed roll w egg and chicken sausage! Highly recommend it. It is on the higher-end price wise; but well worth it IMO! My bf ordered the meatball, I got the French dip, and we shared a mushroom quiche. All this came off the Sunday lunch menu - my bf says their menu rotates all the time. My French dip had thinly slice meats, caramelized onions, mustard, and a pho broth dip. The mustard and pho broth combination was an odd combo that went well together.
