It's always nice to have a genuine five-star experience, and this was one. Lee, our server, was exceptional. She was there whenever we needed her without ever being too present. That balance is harder to achieve than it sounds. Her attentiveness, knowledge, and timing were outstanding. Service -- 10/10 The dining room is comfortable, roomy, and relaxed. My associate and I were there for about 90 minutes, and it was an easy place to sit, talk, and enjoy a meal without feeling crowded or rushed. Ambience -- 10/10 Now, the food. I had the rib lunch, and before I go any further, I should disclose that I'm a certified BBQ judge with the South Carolina Barbeque Association. That probably makes me a little more particular about ribs than the average customer. These were excellent. The ribs had a delicious flavor and aroma and weren't greasy at all. In fact, they had exactly the sort of appetizing sheen you want to see on a properly prepared rib. If I were judging them critically, I could point to only two things, and neither would keep me from ordering them again. They were a tiny bit softer than my personal preference. As a BBQ judge, my palate has developed toward a rib with a nice, light bite--the meat should release cleanly when bitten but still have some structure. Plenty of people prefer a softer, more fall-apart rib, so this is very much a matter of preference rather than a criticism. I also would have preferred them served a little hotter. Again, I wouldn't mark the ribs down for that. There are plenty of factors that can affect serving temperature, and it isn't something we judge when evaluating the quality of a rib. I don't specifically remember which sides I ordered, which probably says something about how much attention I was paying to the ribs, but I do remember that the sides were excellent as well. Food -- 10/10 Perhaps the strongest endorsement I can give is this: I rarely order ribs in restaurants. Too few places really know how to do them well, and I'll readily admit that judging BBQ has spoiled me. I'd come back here specifically to order these ribs again. That's a 5-star meal. read more

Yikes. Not what I was expecting for southern barbecue. My husband and I are from New England where barbecue barely exists, nevermind good barbecue! However, I feel like we've had better barbecue up north than we did here... We ordered a brisket plate + a pork belly plate to share with mac & cheese, grits and corn pudding. The brisket was dry and flavorless. The pork belly was more fat than meat. Thank goodness for the variety of delicious sauces they provided with our meals! I'm giving two stars for the sides & sauces being pretty good but that's about it. I don't know the area but I'm sure you can find better meats elsewhere :( read more

Great service for this fast place with a very decent menu, they sure know what they are doing. This place ROCKS and prices are reasonable Ordered the pork rinds, oh my oh my they come with some kind of powdered condiments but by themselves are the best thing on this side of the Mississippi and there is plenty to go around for a group of people, no way we can eat that many just the two of us but I am sure tomorrow they will be good to if I heat them up in the toaster oven. Our entrees were the 5 dollar pulled pork sandwiches, did I say they are awesome? I will say it again, lean pulled pork unlike other places that mix it with a lot of fat, they are awesome. Great deal for the price and they are not a small kids menu item, it is a regular sandwich that will satisfy any appetite. My first time here, but my husband has been many times. He claims this is the best brisket he has had in a long time and gets it every time. Sausage is ok, and likes the chicken when he is in the mood for it. He hasnt had anything there that he doesnt like. I loved the turkey, baked beans and Mac n cheese. Our Hurricane drink was pretty delicious( with part of the proceeds goes to a charity for that one particular drink). The server was polite and friendly. They smoke and bbq all the meats right out back of the restaurant so the food came out quick, fresh and amazing! I personally loved the Mustard and Sweet Red sauces while my husband prefers the slight heat of the Jalapeño sauce . The recipes for the sauces are hanging up on the walls as part of the decor. The only thing i could knock them for is the bathroms were a little dingy. Not really super dirty, just needs some updating with new tiles and paint. Brisket had decent taste but was dry, ribs are pretty good but not very meaty for spares, pork was good and whole hog so not as much bark, loved the sausage. For sides really liked the corn pudding which had some good bite to it, decent collards but a little too vinegary for my wife, I love the pickled vegetables side. I had not visited this location in over a year, maybe longer, but because I was craving barbecue I decided to stop by for dinner. My server Greenleigh was very friendly, and attentive however my food didn't quite live up to my expectations. First, the food seemed to take quite a while to prepare, which I can understand. Second the food arrived and both my side dishes were lukewarm warm or room temperature, which I hated because I like my food to be served HOT. I like that freshly prepared temperature. Third, the side dishes seemed to be a little bit bland, and lacking flavor, but in prior visits this was not the case. Finally the brisket, which was served hot and tasted good, seemed to be a smaller portion than I recall and even though I'm working on my summer body, I would have liked a portion that reflected the price I paid. In closing, there are so many restaurants opening in the area, I probably won't be back for a while as my expectations weren't quite met on this visit. read more

I had the pulled pork and vinegar slaw and it did hit the spot. tasty as I ate it with the mustard bbq sauce, which I understood from YouTube videos to be a South Carolina specialty. The staff was really prompt. My brother and sister in law are repeat customers of the joint, and had ribs and chicken and were also happy with this. The brisket and pork belly were exceptional - as were all 3 sides we tried. I would order those beans by the vat. Insanely good. Only dislike was the turkey. The texture was off putting. Our friends who live in the area always spoil us when we visit. This time they ordered a family platter with additional sides and had it delivered to their home in Summerville. We can't speak to the price or logistics but what we can tell you is that each and every item ordered was delicious! Our family platter included beef brisket, smoked turkey, ribs, pulled pork, sausage, and smoked chicken wings. The platter included pickled onions and pickles. The sides ordered were mac and cheese, coleslaw, hash and rice, and baked potato salad. We really enjoyed our meals and would absolutely recommend to others! We were surprised we had not heard of Swig & Swine before since we visit the area at least twice a year. We did some research in order to write this review since we were not part of the ordering process. We discovered there are five locations in the Charleston area.
