This is an awesome brewery with some great brews and an awesome location in Park Circle. Went for the Jalan Red pop up which was really cool. Loved the layout of the inside and outside. I'd been wanting to make it to this brewery and finally did, but definitely wish it was on a warmer day so I could have truly enjoyed the great patio area! I have the broad brown and it was pretty tasty! Very impressive building from the outside and in. They had a good tent set up outside which is always appreciated along with ample picnic tables and rocking chairs accompanied by heat lamps for these colder temperatures. We enjoyed this place, went on a Sunday afternoon, there was a pretty good crowd there, watched some football and chatted with some of the regulars. There was a collection of bluegrass artists playing inside due to the weather, normally they are out on the patio. The IPAs I had were really good. Met my husband here after work one day. I'm lover of dark Belgium beers and he prefers IPAs & Goses. I didn't see any of my kind on the board, but I'm open to change. The staff allowed me to test several beers before I made my choice, which was very helpful. Then after the second tasting I realized that today wasn't beer day for me. You know, It happens sometimes. I decided on their Dry Cider and fell hard. YAAAASSSSS Hunty! It was everything I needed. I little tart, a little shy, and nothing to dramatic! My husband loved their Porter the best after buying a flight. The environment was chill & full of after work people. Very clean and the staff was beyond helpful. Before they started with their own food, I would have given this sweet stop a 5/5. I do love that they now ALWAYS have food for us to eat, but I loved the change of foods that came with local vendors and it's so fun to stop and get a pizza at Park Circle Pizza and bring it over and drink some delicious common house brews. The new yard is amazing and the bands are always good. It's definitely worth visiting and spending a few hours with friends and family. They offer a solid selection of beer with some very creative limited small batches mixed in. Nobody comes to wait on tables outside, a can of beer costs more than at a ball park, a small glass is $9, if you want a glass of water, you have to help yourself to a plastic cup at the cooler, but you have the option on your bill to still tip 25%!!! My husband and I walked in at 6pm on the dot, not realizing they close at 6. We passed a guy turning away from the bar with a fresh pint in his hand as we entered. The bartenders told us they were closed and couldn't pour us a beer. I pleaded, "It's my first time here. I've been in class all day! We drove all the way from James Island just to come here!". Rejected. Denied. No Beer for You. Gave me a lame excuse about already cleaning the taps out. My bad for not checking the hours before heading up there, but a brewery closing at 6 seems really early. Either be closed on a Sunday or support the hopheads through dinner!! It was a major bummer - a buzz-prevention, worse than a buzz kill - and not very customer-service oriented. There were many people left in the bar and they definitely were not going to be leaving anytime soon. Perhaps this review borders on 'unfair' since I didn't have a pint, but I'll update it if/when I can actually get a beer. The space looks like a nice place to hang out with friends. I'll probably go back when coerced by friends, but instead of putting a delicious saisony taste in my mouth, Commonhouse put some yuck in there. read more

This was my first time here which was with a group for a social outing. Good location. Although it was a weekday, the parking was good. I parked on E. Montague, corner of O'Hear. The outside area had ample seating, more than the inside I think. We had a party of about 20 & there was plenty of room left for other patrons. I'm not a beer drinker so I was happy that they offered wine, sweet tea & bottled soda. The menu didn't really peak my interest because I don't eat meat or pork & I try to stay away from fried foods. However I did walk away with a carry out of chicken tacos which wasn't on the menu but was offered on this evening. Yay! Three tacos for a reasonable price & my tummy is full. Would have been ok with just 2. The tacos consisted of flour tortillas, pulled chicken, black beans, cheddar cheese & slaw. The sour cream & guac was a combined mixture. I'm not a fan of guac, but the mix with sour cream got my attention. Overall the tacos were good, but the chix could have used a little more seasoning. Pet friendly outside. read more

Up in Park Circle for Champions League final - Go Liverpool! Wanted to watch the EFL promotion final and Madra Rua didn't have it, so I popped over to Commonhouse Aleworks just around the corner. I really like the Tax Riot DDH Citra Pale. They have boiled peanuts and moon pies, plus a food truck parked just outside. Very pleasant seating inside and out. Fourteen beers on tap, wine and soda available. Not a sports bar, so don't come looking for "the game." Great place to pre-game, though. Will be back. read more

Was horribly disappointed, the bar tender was rude. It was if we were a bother when ordering. There are way to many other breweries within a 5 mile radius as well as several other establishments in the Park Circle area to put up with such attitudes. I've lived in the area for 50 years and have never had a bartender be as unpleasant as what we experienced. Without a doubt, the best beer being made in town right now! Head brewer Shane really knows his stuff, having brewed at COAST, Westbrook and Stone... I wouldn't pass up a opportunity to hit this place if I were in town. Contrary to the name, there is nothing "common" about this place. Wonderful beer, wonderful people, wonderful facilities, located in a perfect spot in the heart of Park Circle. If you're in downtown Charleston, it's worth the quick drive up to enjoy this place. The beer selection is fantastic. They have a great balance between your classic "staples" and fun inventive beers, and even some wine for the inevitable non beer drinkers in your crowd. The Park Circle Pale Ale is my favorite of their usual haunts, fantastic easy drinking pale with a good hop profile. They've also recently added Flories, their in house kitchen, so they aren't entirely limited to food trucks. The Tot-cho's are delicious and good for soaking up the beer. Their take on brussels were killer too, a little over sauced but the peanuts were a unique and yummy touch! They have a bluegrass brunch on Sundays that's top of the bucket list at the moment, cause what goes better together than Sundays and Bluegrass? read more

Excited we stopped in here yesterday. Pretty good beer (we had flights) and we liked it because it was enclosed with the option of opening up. The heat was way too much yesterday so they kept the doors shut but it was still very hot. Another kid friendly brewery like area so that was great. Dogs on leashes and a local food truck too. The Charleston beer experience with more of an Asheville feel because of the nice construction. Would like to bring friends back here! read more
