The restaurant seems quite popular as evidenced by the line at the relatively off hours of Friday at 2:00PM. Fortunately, the queue moved expediently and we were ordering in less than 10 minutes. The service model is standard in that you wait on line, order your meats, and seat yourself. The dining room and outdoor patio at Lewis are very large and provide ample seating. The ambience is clean but still hews classic with wood accents and butcher paper serving as your plate. We ended up sitting at the bar as we wanted to enjoy one of the many well curated local beers Lewis offers on tap. Bonus points for having bar height high chairs for our little one. We opted to sample four meats and three sides. This amount of food proved perfect for the two of us and our hungry 14 month old. All of the meats carried a discernible smoky taste and aroma with meltingly tender textures and ample seasoning. We enjoyed the meaty pork ribs and tender brisket the most, but everything we sampled had merit. The meats do not need sauce, strictly speaking, though you'd be remiss to pass on Lewis' Tex-Mex infused tasty condiments, which complement all of the meats rather well. The sides also were excellent. The justifiably famous sweet and slightly spicy corn pudding acted as the star, with generous helpings of tangy collards and not excessively creamy potato salad rounding out our meal. Our total for food was less that $60, a very decent value for the quality and quantity. While ultimately a counter service joint, the service here was friendly enough both at the checkout and bar to warrant mention. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to be doing what they were doing and treated us kindly. Overall, for tasty fare, good value, and warm service, this is an easy 5 star rating for barbecue in Charleston.

Pleasant. Imagine my joy upon returning for a visit to the Lowcountry for Mother's Day and finding out Sticky Fingers had made a long awaited return to North Charleston. I literally came here for dinner right after my flight landed Friday evening. It pains me to say, however, that THIS new Sticky Fingers is NOT the Sticky Fingers I grew up enjoying. I ordered some of my old-faithful menu items, only to find that none of them tasted the same. The hickory smoked wings were overcooked and dry (BURNT crispy on the edges), the pulled pork was hella dry ( I had to DROWN it in Carolina Gold sauce), and the fries that used to be delicious and crispy with the best fry seasoning had none of that going on. The only item that even tasted remotely close to what it used to be was my favorite appetizer - the loaded sticky potato skins. These were the best thing we had during dinner. Service was sub-par despite the fact that there were barely any other diners in the restaurant. We had to ask our server for items we ordered multiple times. For example, the corn bread that was supposed to come out with our entrees did not. We had to flag our server down on two separate times before they were brought out. In addition, there wasn't really any music playing in the restaurant so it was incredibly quiet and I felt like we were eating in a library. You would hear a song play every now and then very sporadically. Not sure if they were having issues with their speakers or what but with the lack of other diners it made for a bit of an awkward dining experience. At the close of our meal we sat there for 25+ minutes (after they had already closed at 9 mind you) before our server brought our checks to us - saying that another worker said they had taken care of our bill so she didn't realize we needed to pay. I missed the sweet corn muffins. I missed the loud blues music blaring from the speakers. I missed the exceptional high-quality food and friendly, professional service. I wasn't a fan of the sliders, but honestly that's just because I'm not a fan of barbecue sauce that's sweet and all of them leaned sweet. So that was just my personal taste issue. My side of macaroni and cheese was good, though. The tray of meat and sides was fine. Unfortunately, we would not choose to visit this place again.
