College / sports bar, unclear which one they identify with. But either way I was not a fan. I got a burger, fries, and an espresso martini. It was a frozen drink, with a lot of ice, vodka and probably a splash of baileys. My partner got a shrimp salad, they liked the salad. My child was able to get some French fries, he enjoyed them. We also got cheese curds which were good. They came with a nice sauce. Overall nice if you're going to watch a sports game but not for me. Terrible & shady service. Tldr; seems like they don't want people coming in for happy hour... 1.) Had to ask about their HH deals because it wasn't on the menu / the server didn't mention it. If we hadn't seen the sign outside, we would have no idea it was going on. 2.) Wanted to order another round while it was still HH but we couldn't get a hold of our server. Another friend arrived and asked about HH and she said it's over without even checking the time. My friend pulled out her phone to show it was only 5:54. Then she goes, "oh there's like 2 minutes left" (??) 3.) The server only took the third person's order and left without asking us if we wanted another round. Our glasses were visibly empty and we weren't even far from the POS. 4.) I tried to get her attention to order more HH drinks but she never looked our way or was no where to be found. Sure enough, she waited til after HH to get back to us. 5.) When we got our check, we got charged full price for the first two HH drinks. She never said sorry and just said "oh, let me check...". She came back with an updated bill, again without apologizing for the mistake. read more

Service was awful. It was like pulling teeth, painful. Four people in the place when we got there. Waited ten minutes between getting waters and ordering drinks, then another 5 before we ordered. Then we get a wrong entree, and it took too long to get the attention of bartender to correct it, and we didn't want to waste food, so we ate it. Then the $17 tiniest salad came with no dressing, and hardly anything in it, to boot! I had to go to the bartender to ask for dressing. Then it came like 5 minutes later...at this point there were 2 more tables, and two servers and customers were runner necking trying to get their orders in Next time bartender came to table we asked for to go box and check, even though we were still eating. We had spent too much time waiting on service, I didn't want to chance waiting another unacceptable time. Ended up being charged for dressing. At this point I wanted to get the f$&k outta there. We paid and for the first time in decades, I tipped less than 15%. I was in the biz for 15 years, so I know what it is like. I'll never go back because 1) service was AWFUL, and 2) the prices are a joke. Too bad. So sad read more

I really enjoy the food and chill atmosphere here! I was surprised to see some of the recent negative reviews as I have a more positive opinion after dining here twice in recent time. Most recently I had the southwest salad and it was really flavorful and filling. On Sundays they have a $15 bottle of bubbly with two juice options which was fun. The menu is more interesting than typical bar food and the server kept checking on us from the time we sat down. Hope this helps. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. The food is EXCELLENT. Like you walk in and you're like it's a bar... so what? But then you look at the menu and then you're like DAMN. I always get the Commonwealth burger. Do it!!! It's soooo good! It's park brisket part pork and all fantastic! My friend gets the nachos which taste like chileques which were fantastic. We went to Commonwealth for the first time over this past weekend. My wife has been sober for a year and a half and ordered a NA beer. My wife was half way through the beer and noted she was feeling a bit off. We looked at the bottle and realized this in-fact was NOT the NA beer she ordered but a regular beer with 6.2% abv. The next time we saw our waitress we told her what happened and she responded with, "oh." And then brought over the correct beverage. I am absolutely LIVID. This is an unacceptable mistake. While my wife has been okay since this situation, this could have EASILY caused an entire relapse for someone who is sober. This is a HUGE deal! And to not even receive any sort of apology?! This is your typical sports bar with lots of TVs, great drink selection, and food to fit everyone's needs. We've been here several times and enjoyed the mimosa bar when it's been out, or just to watch sports (did I mention there are tons of TVs?). Great place to watch the game! We came here with a group of people to watch the basketball game for National Marquette Day. We were told at the door that they were completely booked by reservations but they offered us a spot by the bar to hang out. A few minutes later, one of the managers came up to us and told us he would figure out a table for us. He moved reservations around, re-arranged tables, and got us a table! I think his name was Matt, so thank you!! We had a great time hanging out with some $5 Miller Lites and $8 cheese curds for game day. Final Update: I've been treated poorly here for the last time. The bartender (Mike, I think?) ignored me after waving at him, asking him directly, and asking bussers for my check. I'd chalk it up to not seeing me, except he looked directly at me from across the bar several times. The food quality has slipped, and isn't worth it for the terrible service I've gotten the past few times coming here. It sucks seeing a place that I thought was worth five stars slip so far, especially having been here so many times. Skip this place, unless you're a masochist (or a cowboys fan.) Ambiance is good but I think they were pretty understaffed. It might be different if you're just going to the bar but for dining in it was barely mediocre for the price. There was barely anyone dining when we walked in, so we got a table for two in only a couple minutes. We only ordered two appetizers and waters, so we were probably low priority, but it took nearly 30 minutes for those starters to arrive. The water was served in plastic cups which I didn't mind as it probably isn't supposed to be the fanciest establishment, but we only got 1 refill for the hour we were there due to the place being really understaffed, despite us finishing both cups in under a minute (hot summer day) When we got the appetizers, we didn't get any individual plates for them so we had to eat them straight off the platters. Im a white girl who doesn't like spice and the chicken tacos were still probably the blandest thing I've ever eaten, they weren't really appetizing at all. Went here for brunch and we sat at a table that had a lot of large pieces of food on the floor underneath it. Placed our orders and waited for our food, and still no one bothered to clean up the floor. I ended up accidentally stepping in a piece of burger that was on the floor and finally asked the staff to sweep the food up, and they did. However, there was also a lot of food underneath the table next to us that remained unswept the entirety of our visit. Kind of made me lose my appetite. I understand that food probably ended up on the floor due to kids being seated in that area, but the restaurant wasn't that busy so it was kind of odd that no one cleaned it up the whole time we were there. read more

Moved to Roscoe Village in September, and Commonwealth has quickly become my favorite neighborhood spot. Large beer menu, yummy mixed drinks and the food has been delicious every single time. Came here on a Friday evening. Asked how long the wait was. Hostess said there was 1 group in front of us, so it would be about 10 minutes. Keep in mind, they had extra seating, as the street was blocked off, I was in a party of 2, and we did not request a specific location to sit. We stood and waited for 35 minutes before going and asking the hostess how long it would be. She said probably about another hour. So, somehow 10 minutes had turned into an hour and 35. We told her to take us off the list and left. Unwisely, we decided to try again this evening. Wednesday night, early in the evening, not remotely busy. We ordered our food, and after 50 minutes, our waitress finally noticed that we had not received our food. She went inside to investigate, returned a few moments later and told us that our ticket "had been mixed up in all of the trivia hubbub", despite the fact that it was over an hour until trivia started. We finally got our food, were not comped in any way, only a quick "sorry about the wait" when they finally did bring our food. Long story short: the people who work here are either extremely unorganized, or are flat out dishonest, and I absolutely hate this place. read more

Commonwealth is a solid neighborhood bar in Roscoe Village. Full disclosure, my partner and I first came in here for their happy hour, which is good every day but especially amazing on Fridays: they offer a few very crafty and delicious cocktails for $6, and half priced apps. It only lasts till 6 though, so try to dip out of work a few minutes early ;) Almost everything I've had on the menu is fantastic, most notably their pretzel. Holy goodness the pretzel is amazing; it is large, and very soft on the inside but with a slight crisp on the outside. They serve it with two sauces, a cheese one and a honey mustard one, and each brings something different to the plate. I enjoy the chicken sandwiches (both of them) as well as the falafel sandwich - a perfect vegetarian option. My only criticism lies with their chorizo for brunch being rather bland...this may have been improved upon since I last tried it over 2 years ago, so I hesitate to bring it up. I also admittedly enjoy chorizo that is super flavorful and on the spicy side. To each their own. One super unique thing I love about Commonwealth is that they host Euchre leagues throughout the year on Tuesday nights. What a great way to meet new people and also kick some butt at cards. We had Irish Nachos and it was ok. The waffle fries were tasty but the beer cheese sauce didn't go that well with regular potato. It's not like the sauce wasn't good, it just didn't taste "like they belong together". I'm sure it would have been delicious with the soft pretzel. The bar was clean and it's very bright, it opens before 4pm on a week day and it's close to our home! I'd go back and try the soft pretzel next! read more

If you are a cowboys fan this is the place to be. Definitely a Cowboys bar which is pretty cool. I've been here twice but this is my boyfriends favorite bar since he is a Cowboys fan. I went yesterday when it was a play off game. It was super crowded. No tables available. Barely any room to walk. During half time they always give prizes. They do this every game. The food there is good as well. I got the commonwealth burger. Which is 70% brisket and 30% bacon. It was really good. The burger had a nice Smokey taste to it . The fries are pretty good as well. My boyfriend just had a pretzel. Which he says was great. Overall this place is better good. read more

I've been here several times and every time the food, beer selection, and service is great. Last night I was here with a big party, so we got to sample a large portion of the menu. Seriously, we loved everything. And even though the place was packed, our food arrived very quickly and was hot! Our server (she has round glasses, don't know her name!) was great!
