    Double Smash Burger and Fries

I work next door to Commonwealth and really enjoy the quality of the food and the variety of seating options, both inside and outside. It is always a great spot to invite colleagues, family, and friends. They offer a solid selection of burgers and craft beer, and the location is very convenient in downtown Modesto, within walking distance of the Brenden Theatre and nearby venues like the Gallo Center. The customer service is phenomenal and they truly make you feel at home. If you need pickup, just give them a call and they will get you situated right away. Definitely recommend it.

Never disappoints! Tacos were great. I got the BBQ Pork, Coconut Curry, and Honey Sriracha. Love how the flavors just go so well together for each taco.

What they call a club sandwich. It's really a grilled chicken burger.

Another pretty good sandwich shop downtown Modesto. I'm a big fan of indoor/ outdoor seating and I also really appreciate the open windows from the patio to inside the restaurant. The service is fine. Not particularly quick but the person who took our order was cool. I have some beef with the menu. I ordered a club sandwich (google a club sandwich - it's a triple decker sandwich, cut into triangles) they brought me a grilled chicken burger, that is their version of a club. I admit it was delicious but not what I ordered. We also like the fries, dislike the potato chips, and appreciate the napkins at the table. We've been here a few times before a Gallo show and will be back again.

Came for St pattys day. They had a few food specials with corned beef including a patty melt. Unfortunately, though they do not or did not have any happy hour specials. Got the M80 sandwich and my friend got the patty melt with corned beef and sauerkraut in it. My sandwich had good flavor and ok amount of filling. My friend enjoyed his sandwich as well. The fries were crispy and the house made chips I got were kinda like lays. I was hoping for a thicker kettle chip and was disappointed. They also had a decent selection of beers available and it was a nice casual atmosphere.

Looooooove their Caesar Salad! Idk what it is but sometimes I just have a craving for a Commonwealth Caesar Salad - their croutons are made in house. YUMS! I've been coming here for years & always find my way back. The staff is always so friendly & accommodating. There is a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating has some community tables where more than one group can sit or a giant group can sit. The menu is on the wall along with the list of beers behind the counter - the beer selection is always good - something for everyone. I prefer ciders which they tend to have at least 2 options. You order at the counter and they had you your beverage & a number - you seat yourself. The wait on your food varies on how busy they are or how backed up the kitchen is. Each time, the person taking our order gives us a heads up to set the expectation. I always order the Craft Taco Plate - it comes with 3 tacos of your choice. I substitute the meat for the crispy cauliflower option - HIGHLY RECOMMEND for your vegetarians. As for flavoring, this is how I would rank 'em (those that I have tried): Coconut Curry - Soooooo good esp if you like curry. The flavor is on point! Banh Mi - The ultimate Asian flavor, so yums! Po' Boy - The sauce is different, a good different. Something to call out, when it gets later in the day - they tend to run out of crispy cauliflower (it's just that good). One of our good 'ol reliable spots we always seem to find ourselves at.

Wooow. It's been ages I've been to Commonwealth. My go-to casual/hip spot in downtown Modesto is usually Churchkeys but they had some sort of plumbing problem that apparently we couldn't be seated there. Strange but I mean it all worked out. I was there last week. Food was amazing. I tried a smashburger and it was a tasty burger. Meat was nicely cooked. My partner got some sort of chicken sandwich (I forgot the name sorry) and he said he enjoyed his a lot. The cauliflower wings are freaking huge!! Super tasty too. They also have a spiked Tampico drink and that too was good. I came on a Friday night. Yes it was busy and noise level was moderate. The only thing that was short a star was my fries were overcooked, and I'm not sure why but the ketchup tasted weird to me. The ranch is great though.

The bacon blue cheese burger is yummy, fried cauliflower bites are a must! Great beer and wine, and Julia had great and friendly customer service!

Great atmosphere! Fun little bar/restaurant, with a friendly staff. I ordered an IPA with the Bahn mi and house salad, and everything was really good! I haven't had a nice Bahn mi in a while, but this place really crushed it. The pickled veggies were refreshing and the aioli was actually spicy. Id definitely come back here

The food was great! It was a bit too loud for a date brunch.. the game was on and we couldn't even have a conversation.

We stopped in Modesto on our way to Reno and found a place that had vegan options. I had the cauliflower coconut curry tacos and they were so good and had so much flavor. They also had lots of other vegan options and a good bottle of Chardonnay.

    Inside atmosphere!

Ok so "road trip"....Modesto bound! OMG! the food was absolutely great-Guy Fieri was RIGHT-again! Cool atmosphere, order at counter, they serve you, inside dining or outside enjoying the fresh air while eating and conversing! Not sure how many "craft beers" on the menu (a lot like maybe 20!) and a couple different ciders! I tried the pineapple combo cider - TWICE my friend tried the other craft cider. A berry of sorts and loved it!! Locally created in a little town to the north of Modesto - Salida! I met a long time friend after watching Guy praise the delectable waffle sandwich on TV! We both drive over an hour each from 2 different directions! A good choice and what a trendy eatery to hang out for almost two hours chatting , eating and enjoying lunch and a local brew! The owers were just as friendly and attentive as one could hope for! You felt comfortable and knew they'd check in on you without pestering... Just watch your car, I didn't heed the parking signs and oops got a parking citation...if only I'd parked across the street in the parking garage...ouch! It's still worth it I will just be more observant next time....and trust me there will be a next time! Taking my guy and two friends Sunday!! Refreshing, AFFORDABLE and super cool owners and vibe...5 STAR!! Katherine K.5

Is it recommended that you make a reservation on a monday night specifically?

You can... but on a Monday it is not too crowded. I would if I had a party over 4 just to be safe.

    How is the food?

Amazing! I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich and the buffalo sauce had actual flavor and it didn't make me run for the water.

We ate at Bauhaus for the first time tonight and everything was perfect. Every single bite of…read moreevery dish was remarkable. I started out with their house made soda - a sparking strawberry drink that was extremely refreshing. We were there early and had the pleasure of sitting at the counter and talking to Tye - the owner/chef and Shauna the wait staff. Dishes are to share. Tye explained that he serves the dishes in particular order to deliver balance with intensely flavored dishes alternating with milder bites. We started with a simple plate of Marcona almonds, Castelvetrano olives and Manchego cheese. We then enjoyed the cabbage with peanut sauce dish - which may sound unusual but was absolutely delightful. We practically licked the plate - in fact asked for a spoon to capture all of the sauce. Next came whipped feta and ricotta cheese served with thinly sliced stone fruit some chili crisp and honey sprinkled with red walnuts and olive oil. This is served with bread slices. It's hard to describe how delicious and flavorful this dish was with such simple ingredients. We were going to order the steak and chimichurri but were talked into the lamb pops - and we are so glad to have tasted these marvelous lamb chops. They were cooked perfectly. In fact they were so good - we went ahead and ordered the steak too - which was extremely flavorful on its own but served with a fresh house made chimichurri. We also ordered the patatas bravas which were perfectly seasoned and cooked - almost crispy on the outside but creamy on the inside with just a perfect level of heat. We finished the meal with the cinnamon rolls - don't know how they cooked these to perfection so quickly but they were fantastic. Bottom line - how have we not been here before! Most important - we will be back!! Thank you Bauhaus for a great meal and dining experience.

Had an overnight work trip that had me in Modesto so I was trying to find something fun to eat…read more After a bit of research I found this place. I showed up around 7pm and I thought it might have been closed because no one was here. But they were open. I ordered a Bauer burger with the house seasoned fries. They asked how I'd like the egg cooked and the burger cooked: I asked for medium for both. Given how dead the place was, it did take a minute to get my food. The burger was ok, not worth $21. The bun fell apart very quickly which is a bit of a cardinal sin in the burger game. The bacon on the burger was not bacon strips but a bit of bacon crumble. The patty was a bit overcooked so it was dry and it wasn't seasoned so it was bland. The egg was cooked perfectly, but the aioli and the egg yolk with a disintegrated bun made for a huge mess. The fries were interesting. The house seasoned fries are not salted. So the fries were almost sweet due to the spices, but no salt. And they do not have regular table ketchup or malt vinegar. I did ask for some ketchup and they brought me their house ketchup. While not like a classic ketchup, it was actually quite good. Oh, be aware. They will charge you a 4% fee when they bring you the check (what would have happened if I'd paid with cash?). I do not see anywhere on the menu where they say their is a payment fee so that is a pretty shady business practice. Overall: meh. I think for the price point the burger should have been great, but sadly I can't say it was great or even good. I'd likely not return.
