The selections of beer is great! I love a place that has a wide variety of beers-- from different breweries & varieties (Stouts, IPAs, sours, etc). Haven't tried the food yet, but the menu looked good. The only thing I would note is that the staff started putting up chairs & stools at like 8:20 & closing wasn't until 9pm. Had a large takeout order today, 5/17 just to support a local business out during these unprecedented times. Very disappointed in the quality of the food seeing as how they have always been great with their customer service and food quality. For my specific order out of the group I got the chicken bonanza with side of fries and the BBQ Nachos (my must have side). The Bonanza overall tasted decent however I wasn't a fan of how smashed the chicken was. They flattened it pretty well making it very thin and causing it to be very dry. First time ordering this specific sandwich and probably my last. The nachos are the biggest downfall for our order of this evening. You can see in my photo specifically how BURNT they are. They had such a burnt taste making it inedible to the point of ruining the dish. They must have forgotten that the chips were in the oven because I know this doesn't normally happen. However, it was just a waste of money to get burnt chips and having to scrape off all the toppings to eat it by itself. Very unfortunate circumstances to have to write this updated review as I love Commonwealth. I asked to try the sweet drinks that they had and I was recommended the Dark Horse. It's a seltzer and I really enjoyed it! We did have to wait a while for our food to come out despite there not being a whole lot of people, but once it came out we were very happy with what we got. I had the pesto Parmesan sandwich. Before seeing a show at the Gallo Arts Center, my Dad and I stopped for dinner at Commonwealth on a Tuesday night. We decided to each order the three taco combo - and shared the 6 tacos between us so we could try more of the flavors. In total we ordered the following tacos: Buffalo Chicken, Tika Taco, honey sriracha, Banh Mi, coconut curry, and Po'Boy. All of the tacos had plenty of filling and unique flavor profiles. My top three favorite were the Tika Taco, Banh Mi, and the Po'Boy. The others were good (all of the others were chicken-based) but didn't have the complexity of the Tika, Banh Mi, and Po'Boy. We ordered their fries and homemade chips as our sides - unfortunately, the fries were a little cold and the homemade chips were good but desperately needed a little salt. If I'm back in Modesto, I'd would definitely give this spot another try! read more

Cool little taproom/eatery in downtown Modesto. Their food is good enough but is helped by the fact that they have a great selection of drinks on tap. I've always wanted to come to this place because I hear so much about it and my husband said that Guy Fiery stopped by here? (Idk) Anyway, you go in order your food at the counter, grab a number then grab a seat. We waited I think 30 minutes for our food. They told us when ordering that everything is made to order so we didn't mind the wait The food was good. I got the chicken parm pesto sandwich and didn't like it too much. I felt like it was missing something. I wish the parm cheese wasn't cooked too a crisp. The fries were simple fries you can get anywhere, nothing special. My salad was super good. I haven't had a good Caesar salad in a while. My friend said his sandwich was really good. He got the M8 ( I forget the name). The mimosas were good. They have about 5 flavors. This is my first time at this spot and it was pretty good! I liked their tacos, they had a lot of flavor. I also appreciated the amount of garlic they add to the fries, very delicious. Their sauces taste like they're handmade, all of them. The ranch was really good! The only thing I didn't care for was the amount of grease on the street taco shells and fries. Great service and good food. Went to Modesto for a garden tour and ended up at Commonwealth's for a Saturday brunch. A nice little place on a side street in Downtown Modesto. You order at the counter and they will bring out your food. I got the waffle Madame and my bride got the Florentine. Both were very good. The Florentine was a little on the salty side. I asked the staff for a few recommendations and wound up going with The Heartbreaker. It probably wasn't good for heart health, but fried chicken, bacon, eggs, and cheese on homemade biscuit with gravy was absolutely delicious. I came in with a full appetite but the portion was so big that I couldn't finish it. Lunch/dinner menus have more options than brunch, such as burgers, tacos etc. Did I mention alcohol? If you're looking for craft beers you're in the right spot as they have an extensive menu. My only complaint was how long the food took to come out. However, they're probably understaffed like every other restaurant right now due to the pandemic so I'll cut them some slack. I highly recommend coming here if you're in the area! read more

Came here a few Saturdays ago for brunch after the farmers market. Breakfast was okay.. several dishes in our party were either over cooked or not seasoned right. We got 2 orders of the chicken and waffles which the waffle was good but the chicken was so over cooked it was like rubber. We had an order of the eggs Benedict and the eggs were so over cooked they were almost hard. My husband wanted to give this place another chance cause my SOS was good so he wanted to try it himself. Fast forward to last weekend and they were not serving a full breakfast menu at 10am. Limited with no SOS on it but their quite awful chicken and waffles. We left. With that said, a team member did check on us at several points and I felt they were attentive and friendly. The wait was a little long, but they were packed which could be an explanation. I ordered the chicken club with garlic fries. The fries were decent but the chicken in the sandwich was super dry. I did taste the other parts of the sandwich and they were all solid, especially the bacon which was amazing. I was in Modesto for work, and came to Commonwealth for lunch. I ordered a Caesar salad and beer, nothing crazy. But wow, the salad was incredible! I never thought lettuce could taste so great. Located in Downtown, Modesto, this restaurant is a counter service establishment, meaning everything is ordered at the bar. I tried one of their brunch favorites which was the waffle madame. It comes loaded with ham, Swiss cheese, maple mustard butter with their house recipe Belgian Waffle, topped with two eggs over medium and served with home fries. But wait....that wasn't all. My brother had the BBQ pulled pork sandwich and we also tried every single craft taco on the menu. BBQ Pork, buffalo, honey sriracha, banh mi, coconut curry, tika taco, and po 'boy. Such a disappointment! If you can't wait iver an hour for food, don't bother to go there. Checked in advance for wait time Friday night...no wait, quicky seated. Our server checked on us fairly quickly. We ordered drinks and within 10 minutes of seating ordered food. At least 35 minutes after ordering our server apologizes and says a lot of people came in and our food still isn't ready. 15 minutes later we still don't have food! So after 60 minutes of placing our order and almost everyone around us getting food, we inquire about our food. Our server says it won't be ready any time soon. So this was a pleasant surprise for me! Being that I'm so skeptical about trying new places, but I'm glad I did. I had the chicken club sandwich, and their famous Napa Nachos. Both of them were delicious!! I demolished the sandwich (hehehe), and shared the nachos. The staff was great. The cashier/waitress/bus person/clearer made a great suggestions like the pineapple cider beer. I loved it!!! Not to sweet, not too bitter and 6% alcohol.
