Went back for a second time. This time the food was even better. I got a hot lavender latte and my husband got the Ginn fizz mimosa, also delicious. We shared the pimento and pickle board to start-the flavors were divine and taking a sip of the lavender latter alongside this board was outstanding! The tastes will fill your senses! The blackberry, beet salad was made sensational by the addition of basil, lavender blooms and an avocado dressing! The potato bowl had just the perfect cheese and herb addition to being perfectly prepared. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The decor is rustic yet modern, and the food is unique and local. You're not in just any beach town, you're in VA Beach! I personally went for the season special of the lamb with creamy gnocci, topped with poached egg. Thinking that I'd be receiving a tri-colored plate... I was proven wrong. It was a fresh, multicolored, and multilayered plate of deliciousness, with homage to all the local ingredients. The lamb? Surprisingly not gamey at all. That poached egg? The perfect brunch combo. The gnocci? Oh so tender, and the perfect base for all that fresh herbs and vegetables that topped my dish. To wash it all down? I got one of the fresh sodas, and it was refreshing and just semi-sweet. We ended our meal with a plate of the waffle topped with corn ice cream. Perhaps it's a personal preference, but I wasn't a fan of this dessert. My husband, however, loved it. Loved every single bite! I guess I'm just not a fan of the salty-sweet-tangy mix that this dessert had, but it's definitely a personal preference. I'd say it still a must try considering how much my husband loves it. Commune is a great bakery and restaurant. The treats are delicious, I loved the peach croissant! The food was fantastic as well, especially the pancakes!! The side of bacon was a generous helping, which is not typical for restaurants and was a very welcome surprise. A cute little farm-to-table breakfast/brunch concept in Virginia Beach, which is overall sorely lacking in quality places to eat. I had the Oyster succotash and he got a new addition to the menu, roasted potato waffles. Both were delicious (his was better though!). They also have interesting mimosa options like watermelon and canteloupe sorbet (no bloody mary on the menu, though). 4 stars for proper cooking of eggs and awesome fresh fruit. Service was not great and the local angle means they lack certain important condiments at times (like ketchup and mustard). Is the coffee local? I don't think so. (Also wasn't that good). A little too serious with that whole thing. Cute trendy place with amazing coffee and food. Service was great, I was actually the first one to arrive (8am), they greeted me with a warm welcome. I sat outside and immediately they brought iced water and a menu. I ended up ordering an Americano which was strong :) just perfect! For breakfast I ordered the Farm Breakfast: egg whites on top of greens with balsamic vinegrette and toast & the stack (2) of pancakes. AMAZING and DELICIOUS. Ok, I didn't have an actual meal but I did have a small snack with the "fruit salad" (aka some cubed watermelon), grits, and watermelon mojito. The food was pretty good but I was a little annoyed that I ordered a fruit salad and the server tells me it has watermelon it. What he should have told me is that's all it is, JUST watermelon. So I had a watermelon mojito and a huge bowl of sliced watermelon. The cheesy grits was pretty good. The venue would be a nice place to take a laptop and work but they don't have wifi. I was super excited to try this brunch spot after seeing how good the pictures of the food looked. I originally wanted to steak and eggs but unfortunately that wasn't on the menu. So I ended up getting the eggs Benedict. My boyfriend got a bunch of sides. He ordered bacon, egg whites, and strawberries. He also ordered the big backyard salad. I had the peach lavender soda and he had a green tea. The strawberries weren't so good, a lot of them were ruined and it wasn't sweet at all. The bacon and egg whites were really enjoyable by him. The eggs Benedict was superb. One of the best ones I've had. The biscuit definitely made it a lot better since usually it's an English muffin so that was a nice twist. The sauce on the poached eggs were so tasty. I usually don't finish my meals but I ate every last bite of this dish. The salad that came with it was also finished. My boyfriend liked the salad but it wasn't anything special. My eggs Benedict though definitely is a 5 by itself. The peach lavender soda and green tea were really good. Commune is really solid. I really had no expectations before I ate here, and was kind of forced to do so because of work. I was working an 8 hour event here in early June and because I couldn't leave, when it was time to eat, I had to eat at the bar. Well...that turned out to be a GREAT idea. Alan(sp) the bartender is legit. Extremely friendly and very helpful. There was another bartender that was equally as dope but I forgot his name. Point is...the service was really good. I ate whatever grass-fed organic holistic cow burger they were serving there and it was DELICIOUS. I really thought it would be lacking without the additional hormones and GMOs, but I was wrong. I had whatever stout beer they had around (yes I drink stouts in the summer...wanna fight?) and it was the perfect compliment to my healthy wholesome burger. Anyway...I plan on going back. So glad I found this place through Yelp! I love how all of their ingredients are locally sourced, I'm pretty sure they have a large garden by the parking lot. My friend and I ordered a burnt honey cappucino and a lavender latte, and it was so good! The flavor was very light and it combined well with the coffee. We then had zucchini fritters which were so good with the mayo sauce that it came with combined with the mustard seeds. I only had a problem with the burnt edges, it was good at first until it became a bit overwhelming. My friend is vegetarian and she was happy that she had a good amount of items to choose from, she really enjoyed the Shrimp Roll that she ordered. I ordered a burger and it tasted so good with their homemade ketchup! Our waitress was really kind and informative, all the staff were very friendly too! I would definitely stop by again to see what new dish they have for the month/season since they have new dishes based on whats locally available! Went on a Wednesday morning for breakfast. Restaurant wasn't too busy. We were seated and given menus. All of the menu options are mostly organic and are locally based. They source their ingredients from local producers and get some out of the garden they grow behind the restaurant. We ordered the Corque Madame and the Heirloom Cornmeal Waffles. One of the best, if not the best, breakfasts I've ever had. The flavors were incredible. The Corque Madame was hands down the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is very calm and slightly hipster. Went here this morning while on a weekend trip to Virginia Beach. The food was phenomenal. The menu is very vegetarian friendly and the staff was accommodating with my picky requests. I ordered a Galette buckwheat crepe and substituted smoked sweet potato for ham and it was so tasty!! My husband ordered the cornmeal fried chicken and waffles and he said it was delicious and so different from most menu choices back home in New England. The waitress explained that everything on the menu was locally grown. The burnt honey latte was amazing as well. Went for brunch, left thinkng I might have just had one of the best burgers in my entire life. With a side salad as a side, I was skeptical before I even bit into it... But that changed quickly. Best brunch I've had all year - had the asparagus tartine with a side of strawberries (huge bowl, perfectly ripe). The asparagus was perfectly cooked and tender with a slight bite, the bread was wonderfully flavorful and dense and the peanuts added an amazing crunch. The thought of the Stone ground cornmeal waffles with sausage and a fried Sunnyside up egg is still making my mouth water. By far the best waffles I have ever eaten. We also tried the local cider (delicious) and the strawberry mimosas (beautiful). This is a hidden gem of uniqueness and culinary mastery in a land of cookie cutter options designed for tourists. The décor is wood filled, laid back, relaxed vibe. There is a bar, harvest table and individual seating options. I've heard of amaaaaazing things about this place from friends and family. Maybe it wasn't the best day to go? Two cons: disorganized hostess and weird meal. Upon my arrival with a fellow pregnant friend, the hostess told us it was a 5 minute wait and she had to wipe down some tables.. and if we were okay with outside potentially, but only if the people waiting ahead of us weren't wanting outside. Meanwhile, two people walk in after us and say they're going to sit at the bar. We didn't know that was an option. The hostess goes away, comes back 5 minutes later, talks to new people that walked in, and then still hasn't wiped down any tables. She clears off plates from a large group and we see people getting up at the bar so we decide to sit there instead. It was an awkward time with the hostess! 10 minutes had gone by and she just seemed confused or having a hard time keeping things under control. I got the gnocchi summer bowl and it was just okay. It left something to be desired. The gnocchi was fried and they tasted bland and dry, no flavor really. The sauce was good, but I always think pasta should be tossed in sauce rather than laying on top of it. I tried my friends grit bowl and it was yummmmmy. read more

Food was delicious. We enjoyed the cornmeal waffle with fried chicken thigh and fried rice bowl. The waffle/chicken was delicious - crispy and flavor packed. The bowl, while it needed more acid (Carolina gold didn't quite come through), was huge and filling. We especially loved the pickled beets and sauerkraut. Peach milk (maybe a seasonal item?) was delightful - kind of like a summery not-frozen milkshake - in the best way! BUT... and here is where I have to be honest... our server was the most rude, unkind server I've ever had. I've been a server, and I have sympathy for having a hard day. But the level of condescension from the get-go is inexcusable. Our first question resulted in walking away and not returning until I went inside to ask to take our order. When we asked if the restaurant had matcha available, we were told by our server, "our drinks our on the menu in front of you," with a toss of the head as he walked away. Once our food was delivered (by the bus girl, who was very kind and attentive), our server visited every table but ours for the duration of the meal. I wish so much I'd thought to ask for a different server from the beginning. Honestly, the rudeness would keep me from returning despite the excellent menu. read more
