Get all the Community Vegan you know and love, now with a new name and location, serving up their signature soul food in Tarrytown, out of the former Beer Plant space. I can't think of a more fitting revival for the restaurant, soon to be restored to its former glory, and then some. The fried oyster mushrooms are inimitable; resoundingly crunchy, thoroughly seasoned, and utterly satisfying across the board. Grab "The Summit" to get the best of all worlds, adding smoky collard greens, some of Austin's best mac and cheese, sweet and moist cornbread, and a handful of French fries for good measure. If you're still inexplicably hungry, snag some Golden Chick'n Sliders which deliver on a simple combination of fried lion's maine mushrooms on buttery brioche buns. There's three in an order so you could theoretically share... Only theoretically

I'm pretty new to Austin but it sounds like this place used to be a food truck that was busy/popular enough to open into a brick and mortar! I heard about it through a vegan Facebook group. I immediately had to go try it out when I looked at the menu. I ordered The Switchback and everything was so good I almost cried. The food also came out super fast, which was nice too! The food was so good, I actually went back a few days later and brought some friends. Unfortunately my food wasn't nearly as good the second time. I got the bbq sliders, and they came out cold and with very little filling. I probably wouldn't recommend those. Everything else was good though, especially the fried okra I got on the side! The restaurant itself is also really nice and cozy. I'll definitely be back, and really want to try their brunch menu too!

Went there for a Friday lunch and enjoyed everything we ate. They are accommodating for gluten-free diets. The chef came out and visited with us for a bit. Love his energy and this place! I had the "summit plate" made almost gluten free with braised cabbage (a super delicious smoky side which was not listed on the menu at the time) substituted for the mac & cheese. Also substituted the mashed potatoes and gravy for the cornbread. The gravy is not gluten-free.

WOW!!! I was so surprised to find that Community Vegan moved from their food truck in the east side to Tarrytown! Which is great for me because it's easier to get to! Right now they're soft opened and doing pickup & delivery only, I can't wait until they fully open! The new location is very easy to do pickup from. The food is crazy DELICIOUS - everyhing we got. Even my picky toddler devoured the dime bag pieces and burnt ends Mac & cheese! We will be back!

Love coming here and supporting black owned businesses. They're always so sweet and the food always made to order so super fresh when you get it. I got the lemon pepper "wangz" and they're made from oyster mushrooms. An up and coming vegan staple and it was delish and crunchy. They have these bar stools and a high bar to sit at. Parking nearby is the street if you're lucky and the dental office lot that's next door (you pay for parking but I never have so shhh). Overall a great joint and can't wait to try something else. My mind is on the "too-nah" sandwich for next time. :)

I am trying to eat better these days so I wanted to see what the buzz was about. This food truck is located on the corner of 11th street, it's nice and colorful so you can't miss it. Unfortunately, there is street parking. I was able to luck up on a spot not too far away. I ordered the Lemon Pepper Wangz. This included Fried oyster mushrooms, with lemon pepper flavoring & seasoned fries. These "wangz" were so good! I never would have guessed that it wasn't chicken. I probably could've went with a softer fry but overall it was delicious. They offer a variety of vegan meals including nachos, sandwiches, burgers, banana pudding, and even sea moss. They also offer brunch on the weekends which I plan to make it to soon. Even if you're not vegan, Im sure you'll be satified with anything on the menu.

The fried okra was delicious. I'll be dreaming of it for years... Only wish I showed up on a Friday so I could try that mac and cheese!

I'm coming to find this place with my family! We were treated to bbq at work and the non-meat choice was from this vendor. Let me tell you, the food was not only delicious but beautiful to look at! Presentation is a big deal for me when it comes to dishes and Community Vegan didn't disappoint. The people I talked to were kind and explained the ingredients in the dishes with pride!

Really cool spot in a food truck area with lots of picnic tables outside the truck. I ordered the Crispy BEER BATTERED CAULI CHIKN SANDWICH with WAFFLE FRIES, and it was pretty greasy (that's the only qualm I had was how it was still dripping oil from the grease), but SO delicious! It was literally a huge piece of cauliflower battered & seasoned and then fried. It was so good- I think about it almost everyday of my life since I had it, and if I end up moving to Austin, this will be my monthly meal. The waffle fries were the best waffle fries I've ever had in my life. They were so crispy (which is how I like all my food) and so delicious- no ketchup needed! Will return again, and I highly recommend everyone experiencing this delicious food.

First of all, love the hip vegan vibes of this truck. A painted bus, hot dope. Got the Lemon Pepper Wangz Basket. Kind of pricey for the amount of food that you get, but still yummy. The Fried Oyster Mushrooms were crispy and so flavorful, definitely get them dirty. Paired it with the cajun dipping sauce which balanced out the fried taste. The fries were also so yummy. Crispy and also rolled in flavor :)

I had been wanting to try this place for years after hearing people talk about it and following the fun CV stories on social media. I decided to come for brunch and debated between the Chick'n N Waffles and the Southern Fried Chik'n biscuit. The photo on the IG post of the biscuit sandwich earlier in the day was still haunting my mind, so I decided to go with that. I definitely want to come back and try the Chick'n N Waffles. The sandwich wasn't exactly what I was expecting. My biscuit seemed a little flat and didn't have that puffy golden top that I expected. Although the taste was good, it was really crumbly and caused me to have to cup the sandwich in my hand to eat it. The best part was the fried oyster mushrooms! I want to come back for lunch and try them just on their own, because I bet they will be amazing without any thing else to distract from them. The wait for my food wasn't too bad, it was just unfortunately hot out so time stood still. I wish there were more shady spots to enjoy your food. They only have two rows of bar seating and most of it's in the sun.

Is the breading for fried items made with wheat flour? I would presume so. Just curious.

    Is there free parking?

Yep, but you might need to drive around a bit depending on how busy it is.

This place came up on Yelp as a good work spot so I decided to walk over and give it a try. It wasn't too busy on a weekday mid-morning and the food was very quick to come out. I found it a bit pricey and that's coming from someone from CA, but that was fine. The servers were really kind and the food came out quickly. I found the breakfast I got on the greasy side but overall it was tasty. The seating is truly underground as you would expect from the name, but after being down there I realized it wasn't really a place I would like to sit down and work for hours due to the no windows thing. I learned after ordering that they didn't have wifi available anyway, so the listing I had found online stating that it was a good spot to work was incorrect (I can't remember where I found it, possibly Yelp?) I didn't stay too long and kind of got weirded out since the table I chose was facing some *ahem* unusual decor under the staircase. IYKYK.

Not well prepared, but not the end of the world, right? Here's the thing: there was an unmistakable flavor of rubber and/or plastic. This was the predominant flavor. I simply couldn't eat it. Maybe a wrapper or some other foreign item was inadvertently added. The small dish of watermelon, strawberry and pineapple was ok. This, with tip, was $65.00 just had water to drink. Normally, I wouldn't ever order from a restaurant like this since none of the menu items satisfy a craving of mine, but I had a friend in town who was craving just this. Rotisserie Chicken (3/5) - sure it comes with some pretty tasty sauces (chipotle and salsa verde), but the chicken itself was actually quite dry. I'm sure it's juicier on most days, but this time the chicken was quite dry, even the dark meat portions. Baby Potatoes (4.5/5) - These were pretty flavorful and the roti sauce was a nice addition. But this style of roasted potato is probably on the lower tier of potato forms. So even though these were well done, it's not my favorite form of potato. Baguette with Butter (3/5) - The baguette wasn't really baked well. I got two of them and the outside was a bit too tough (slightly crunchy, but mostly on the hard side). I expected something crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, but the toughness of the crust made it difficult to enjoy the fluffier interior. Arugula salad (4/5) - Solid arugula salad. We were excited to try the food, and were hungry. Our server appeared (I can't remember his name but he was a short guy with blond hair). I ordered a cocktail and my husband ordered beer to begin with. He went away and then came back asking my husband if he wanted some whiskey cocktail, and we corrected him that we had asked for a particular beer. No big deal. We then ordered the deviled eggs and shishito peppers, and the red fish and short ribs for entree. A lady brought us the drinks, and the deviled eggs. Our server swung by and then disappeared. We thought the shishito peppers were on their way. We waited for what seemed like a really long time and still no shishito peppers. We also noticed that each table had a carafe of water except ours. We were just given water once, and then our server never bothered to fill the water up. Anyway, we kept waiting since there was no sign of the server. At this point, we felt he might have forgotten the second appetizer and we just did not want it, but he was nowhere to be found. A man (not our server) brought out our entrees. We then told him that we had been waiting for our second appetizer and would just want to cancel it. We asked if we could get the biscuits instead. He brought out the biscuits within a few minutes. Now this is where it really annoyed us. Had our server just come over and said he had forgotten our shishito peppers, it would have been okay. Human. What he tried was act smart and dropped by saying the shishito peppers would be out to which we said that we didn't want an appetizer after an entree and had cancelled it. I almost felt like he was treating us as if he thought we don't really dine out or whatever and he could just make fools of us. This really didn't sit right with me. We asked him for water and he filled it up left. The food was above average. The short ribs were good but my red fish had been hammered! The biscuits were good. The deviled eggs were good as well. Anyway, we finished our meal, and got the check, paid, and were waiting to finish our drinks. The receipt was on our table. Also, note, it was not a particularly busy day with several empty tables. What our server did next was absolutely unacceptable. I think he wanted to see if we had tipped him after his awful service. We did, but not 20% as we always do because of the soddy job he did, not to mention his attitude. We paid 15% which I think was more than what he deserved now. Out of nowhere, and mind you, after being absent for long periods before, he just came by, grabbed the paid up bill from our table to our shock, while we were still sitting and talking, looked at the bill, turned towards us, and muttered something angry under his breath and walked away. I have never seen this level of entitlement and bad behavior. We left right away. We had been really looking forward to this meal but I would not want to go back. The food was good, but not great, and I would not want to put up with such obnoxious behavior as a paying customer.
