If I could give 100 stars I would! We knew it was our sweet Buddy's time, but we were struggling and just could not commit. I am not sure why all her reviews are filtered. We wouldn't make something up about euthanizing a pet. We had Dr. Berry come to see our senior cat Sadie because she was having several issues. Sadie was always aggressive with hissing and growling whenever we would take her to a vet. I forewarned Dr. Berry, and she was good with her. She recommended we make some changes. We did, and we were able to prolong Sadie's life a little longer. But then we had to call Dr. Berry back to euthanize Sadie. She was solemn and compassionate, and explained the process so I knew what to expect. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but having someone like Dr. Berry there, so Sadie could be in the comfort of her home, made it a bit easier. I highly recommend Dr. Berry. We were referred to Dr. Dara Berry by Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital. Our 12 1/2 year old rescue pup, Harlan, had been getting along fairly well for the last year despite inoperable bladder cancer. But over the last 2 or 3 days he took a sudden, steep dive for the worse. We called Dr. Berry who came today. It would be impossible to find a more expert and compassionate veterinarian to help at such a sad time. She was patient and kind. Gave us all the time we needed and explained every step beforehand. Harlan liked her, licked her hand, and never felt the initial injection of the first-step sedative because she took her time to administer it slowly. Several times during the process she stepped away to allow us some private last moments with him. I wish I could give Dr Berry more than 5 stars because she deserves it. Our 15 year old pup Jack had been declining rapidly the last month after a long battle with cancer and heart disease. We asked Dr Berry to come in to evaluate Jack and see if there was anything else we could do for him. She was able to examine him in our home and told us he was within a week or so of death and was probably experiencing pain. She adjusted the amount of medication he was receiving to alleviate that and we were able to spend a couple of good days with him, giving him lots of treats, hugs and love. Dr Berry came back for the in home euthanasia - I was so grateful we could do it at home, on a sunny day on our patio. Jack was able to be relaxed, in comfortable, familiar surroundings. Last year I got a cat at the shelter, and even though I was supposed to take him to the vet within 30 days, he was so stressed out and scared at the slightest noise, and it took him a few weeks to calm down, that I felt it would be cruel to stress him out by taking him to the vet so soon. (He was up-to-date on all his shots.) A year later and it was time to get his shots updated, and I had also just adopted another cat from another shelter. The new cat was very scared at first as well, and hid under the bed for the first two weeks. Knowing I needed to get both these cats to a vet, and how emotionally scarred they were from being in a shelter for so long (both of them were shy and hard to adopt), it finally occurred to me to look to see if any vets in Austin did house-calls. I am glad Dr. Berry has such great reviews on Yelp (including the "filtered" ones, Yelp staff!) - because her website is practically non-existent. (She told me she is going to get it updated - she's just been busy!) I emailed her, and she responded right away (on a weekend) and offered me tons of free advice in email about how to help the cats integrate with each other. I told her one cat was under the bed constantly and she said we'd figure something out. (It turns out I was able to pick the cat up by the time the appointment came around.) I have to admit, I was still a little worried about having a vet come to my home when I didn't know much about her, but I felt it was worth a try. On the day of the appointment, Dr. Berry and her assistant arrived on time, dressed in professional scrubs, and with all the equipment they needed for a mobile vet office. Dr. Berry sat down with me to find out the history of my cats, and took notes. She seemed very knowledgeable and explained things well. She made me feel at ease and was not judgmental about my not having the first cat checked out right away. We were able to get both cats into the bathroom (separately, of course) to do their exams. The assistant knew how to handle my first cat, who can be a bit feisty. The cats were both able to calm down enough for their exams (and the first one for his shots). Afterwards, Dr. Berry offered my cats treats and both cats seemed to be in pretty good spirits despite the exam. My new cat especially had been eating too much and not getting enough exercise at the shelter, so Dr. Berry gave me recommendations on feeding and gave me a prescription for weight loss food, that was my choice to use or not - either way, it is apparently better to feed cats wet food twice a day (a change from past recommendations to leave dry food out). When Dr. Berry comes back for the next shots, she will check up on the cats' weight to see how they are faring. I can say without hesitation this was the BEST veterinarian experience I ever had. I used to go to a really nice cats-only clinic in Los Angeles when I lived there years ago, but as nice as they were, it was always a nightmare getting the cat into the carrier and driving the cat over there. Then there's the waiting in the waiting room. Going to a vet can be very scary for a cat - and they sometimes need to recover when they return home. With the house-call, both cats' exams took a little less than an hour! And I did not have to fight them to put them in their carriers. And afterwards, they were FINE. Hardly any trauma. AWESOME!! 100% recommend and SOOO HAPPY to have found Dr. Berry. Seriously, all vets should offer this service. It is so much nicer for the animals - and for pet owners too! read more

One year ago, Austin Veterinary Housecalls helped us say goodbye to our dear Shetland Sheepdog, Teddy. He fell suddenly very ill at age 14. I could not imagine bringing him to our regular vet for help. He was just so ill. Friends encouraged me to call someone in. Dr. Berry was so responsive and beyond kind. This is an update from my first review. Dr. Berry kept in touch with me via email, but unfortunately, my dog, Nook, did not respond to the medication that Dr. Berry prescribed. He was in so much pain, and I did not want him to suffer anymore. She went out of her way to make room in her schedule to come see him today. I did have him put to sleep, which is one of the hardest things a person can do. Dr. Berry and her assistant were kind, respectful and compassionate. Nook went to heaven peacefully and with dignity. I no longer have any small animals; however, if I did, she would be my veterinarian. I want to thank Dr. Berry and her assistant for their kindness today.
