A good and honest mechanic can sometimes be hard to find these days. I came to Joe in need of a clutch replacement for my 2020 Jetta referred by my mom. This man is a gem of a human being, and his shop is amazing. First i'll start with the price. Before I came to him I got quoted from Volkswagen for the repair and they wanted to charge me $3200 dollars. The dealer is always going to charge you top dollar, but Complete Auto Service did the whole job with OEM Volkswagen parts for just over $1900. To me that's an insane price difference and a steal. $1900 is still a ton of cheddar, but it's easy to live with when you know the dealer wanted to gouge your eyeballs out for almost double the price. Next was the transparency with the repair. When I came to pick up my vehicle, he showed me the old clutch and explained with great words and visuals as to why it indeed needed to be completely replaced. I feel like most places would just take your money and call it a day, but I really appreciated how he explained everything to me. I can't even begin to express how happy I am with what this place did for me. Complete Auto Service hooked another customer for life, or at least as long as I live in this area. Great experience on my first visit and very happy with their work, prices, and speed. They seem to have fixed a problem that I had spent a fortune with another mechanic trying to fix. They also did a great job explaining and showing me the problems. They replaced the coolant reservoir, pump, pipe out of the pump, belt, and of course the coolant, for a little over $500. More importantly, they gave a new lease of life to my 2004 Jeep Liberty, which after ten years parked outside in New York winters, is rustier than a retired athlete gone to seed, and has scared off quite a few California mechanics. read more

Recently my mid-sized 2006 SUV suddenly began running poorly, losing power and idling roughly. Then the MIL light came on with a message stating "Service Engine Soon". I contacted the closest dealer's service department to have the vehicle diagnosed and repaired, however they couldn't accommodate me for at least a week. I hadn't had a great experience with this operation in the past, during the interim the dealership had changed hands and they had no records of the work performed their previously! I therefore wanted to locate a good independent, non-dealer repair shop. Fortunately my wife's colleague in an unrelated business recommended Joe and Melvin Arruda's "Complete Auto Service" in Concord. We live in Oakland and the business is more than 16 miles from our home, but I would have to drive that far to a dealer anyway. Even though their shop is very busy, Joe agreed to check the car out the following morning due to the urgency of the matter. After some fits and starts due to my car's onboard computer not retaining the associated error codes, Joe was able to accurately diagnose the problem and initiate repairs. The car was ready to go first thing the following morning. I can't say enough about Joe and Melvin's "Complete Auto Service". Professionalism, integrity and competence of this caliber, all at a very fair price, is hard to find in the auto service and repair business. My point here is that these guys are so service oriented and honest. These guys are great for routine car service. I've been taking my car there for 10+years. Camry, Winstar, Odyssey, Accord, Accord. Helpful, straightforward, able to think beyond my limited car knowledge but not pushy or aggressive with repairs. A tiny parking area, but able to deal with drop offs the day before, overnight, that morning, etc. and usually done by 5. They've even let me pick up after hours (without paying!) with the understanding that I'd come back and sign.
