A working man diner to be sure don't get any misconceptions that this is a fancy spot. This is the spot you're more likely to fit in if you are in uniform or working. You will be treated with the utmost kindness but you will encounter looks if you take a photo of your food. As a working man in civilian clothes I don't give a dam what people think . Been here many times and every time you can get the south's favorites. Liver pudding is a specialty here and they actually ask how you want it prepared cooked crispy or just regular. A sign of knowledge as I've spent 40 years in the south I've seldom heard that request from a waitress. Diners like this are few and far between. I make my pilgrimage here at least once or twice a year. True southerners will like the breakfast special last available all week ! Opened early everyday.

This is the last of the dying breed of restaurants that have a meat and three veggies for about $8. There are 4 or 5 meats to choose from along with veggies. The veggies are fresh sometimes when they are in season. Can't beat it even though it is a hole in the wall.

Since the manager Monica left, the place has gone downhill. It's dirty, the service is lacking, and the food is inconsistent. Very sad.

They were all so sweet and really went above and beyond to make sure it was a high-quality experience. I noticed that they openly advertise that they don't accept tips and have slightly higher prices in order to pay their workers a living wage, and the results were directly reflected in the customer service that I received. As for the food and drink (coffee), that was pretty good as well! While I do wish that they might have had bagels, the croissant that I substituted it for was warm, buttery, and tasty, and it was a nice change from my usual coffee shop meal, as I've only had a croissant a handful of times. The coffee was fine, and I loved how they offered free refills, which I've noticed that other local coffee shops usually don't. Finally, I loved the setting of the restaurant, which gave you the opportunity to either sit inside and enjoy the ambiance or on the outside patio and enjoy some peace and quiet. I also loved the artwork that they had on the walls, which the waitress informed me was painted by a local artist and which you could purchase if you wanted to. All-in-all, I loved smallSUGAR, will be back in the future, and would highly recommend stopping in!

Service was fine. Nothing particularly standout, but smooth and efficient. For drinks, the coffee was average. It wasn't bad by any means, just nothing memorable. Especially considering the price point. Food-wise, there were some highlights. The sweet potato bowl was well-dressed and flavorful, though it felt like it was missing a protein component to make it more complete. The shakshuka was very good overall, with great flavor, though it leaned a bit salty. The biggest issue was the bread portion. It simply wasn't enough for the dish. I ended up ordering an extra side, and while it's listed as two slices, it's really just one slice cut in half. At $4 for that portion, that is very unreasonable. That was a recurring theme. Pricing felt high across the board for what you receive. While the flavors were there, nothing really stood out as exceptional enough to justify the cost. Overall, not a bad visit. Just one where the value didn't quite match the experience.

Do keep in mind that parking can be tricky, especially on nice days when many visitors are enjoying the nearby Cayce/West Columbia Riverwalk. A little patience goes a long way! As for the food, it was absolutely top-notch! I opted for a simple but classic breakfast of pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon, and everything was cooked perfectly. While the menu is a bit "busy" with many options to choose from, the variety is impressive, and I'm excited to try more dishes next time. No complaints here! Service was equally great. We arrived about 45 minutes before closing, and our hostess took the time to answer all of our questions about the menu, which was much appreciated. I highly recommend this spot--the food was excellent, the atmosphere was welcoming, and overall, it's a place worth visiting!

I ordered the kids gluten free pancakes for me and the kiddo to share. We loved them. They have a decent size gluten free menu so hopefully we can eat our way through it. However, service can be pretty rough on the weekends as this is a very popular spot for brunch. Due to the demand, the inside can also get kind of tight at the tables. Overall, if you decide to come here, the food is decent but get here early or eat during the week day. Enjoy!
