I wish I could leave 0 stars. This is the most rude establishment I have ever been to in all of my life. We showed up a little before 1:00pm (they close at 2). They ignored us and allowed us to stand around and wait for about 15 minutes. The phone was ringing and someone yells for them to not answer the phone because takeout is over. They sit a party that walked in seconds before us, then looks at us and goes "I don't have a table for you, we close in 20 minutes." I said you close in an hour. It says it on the door. She repeats, "I own the place and I say we close in 20 minutes". I tell her she just sat the party before us and we've been standing for 15 minutes and she said, "I don't have a table". I ask her name and she says, "you can't get me in trouble, I am the owner". "I would've loved to take your money, but you gotta go". Then proceeds to get into a yelling match with a person in our party. We left and had delicious food at La Cocina Dominica not too far away. We were treated with respect there (unlike here) and the food was delicious. read more

I was there today. I've gone there on and off for probably twenty years. They used to have terrible customer service, usually because of a relative of Compton, the owner. I actually stopped going for over two years because of that. When I started again, I discussed it with Compton, he apologized, and when it was convenient, I would still stop there. They have a special, called the DOUBLE-TRIPLE PLAY which is a good deal. When I started going there it was under $3.00. Then over the years, it went up. Recently (when they last had the sign made for it) it was $5.25. Now, there is duct tape over the price and they charge $7.99. Really, that's still a great price for the meal, but that's not my problem. To buy the meal, you have to also buy a beverage. Today, I already had several cups of coffee, so I didn't want to spend $3.00 for another cup, so I ordered a small cranberry juice. It was only $1.99, but I had to order something, when all I really wanted was water. But I went with it anyway. There is the problem. They brought me a small (no more than 6 ounce glass) that was only 2/3 full with foam being the rest. I sat there looking at it and then Compton walked by. I said hello to him, pointed at the glass and quietly asked "two bucks?" and he went off on me. Started about the pandemic and covid and asked if I heard anything about it and said I should watch the news and that anyone that didn't know about it must live in a bubble, then walked into the kitchen leaving it at that. All I wanted was the glass filled up. Then the waitress came back with my food, and I quietly asked her if she could fill my glass up since the foam all settled. She said "WE'RE REALLY NOT ALLOWED TO FILL IT MORE THAN THAT" and that's when I had enough. I had her bring me a to go container, scraped my untouched food into it, left the toast, paid and walked out. I will never go back to that place again. Not necessarily because the food is mediocre, which it is. Not just because they refused to give me more than four ounces of cranberry juice for two bucks, which they did. But the reason is trust. I do not trust any business making food, that I will be consuming, when they are so stupid, that they will lose a customer because of two ounces of juice, that I paid for to begin with. I simply don't trust people that stupid to prepare anything that I am going to be eating or drinking. Everything in this review is fact, and if I seem a little petty over two ounces or less of juice, please know, it's not just that. If I can't sit down and eat without having to get ticked off, in this case twice, I really can't eat. I won't be exposing my digestive system to that place again... read more

My friend and I traveled 1.5 hours from NYC to visit this place because it was highly recommended to us by a good friend. We arrived at 12, two hours before closing. They did not let us in because they decided to close early. We slid on black ice all over the highway for some damn pancakes that we'll never even get to try because they locked the door the moment we arrived. Service and food is good. We eat here all the time when we visit the area. The only drawback is that they close so early. The website says they close at 2pm. They stop taking customers at 1:30. Found this place using google while driving through the town. Very large and busy breakfast spot. Tables were sticky and place is a bit old looking. Although the place was busy, our waitress was good and attentive, food was brought out surprisingly fast. Pancakes were much smaller than expected but they were ok. Coffee and bacon were good. I came here about 3months ago and the portion was a decent size. I went last week and yesterday and the portion for the french fries were much less. My meal looked like a kid size meal. Everything is sticky. The staff is inattentive and unfriendly. The coffee tastes tinny. The food itself is good. So if want a late breakfast get it to go instead. Make sure to check-in on yelp to get 10% off your bill. They charge extra for credit cards, so make sure you have cash. read more

I visited Compton's Pancake House on a recent trip to NYC. We stayed in the Shawnee Village up the road and were looking for some decent breakfast one day before setting out to see the sights. I was caught a little off guard by the name of the place, but that won't stand between me and breakfast! FOOD: I ordered some traditional Eggs Benedict from here hoping that the eggs would be cooked right and the sauce would be flavorful. It took about 15 minutes to get the food delivered to our table which wasn't bad. For the first breakfast food that I got to try on my trip, I have to say that the food was good! I wouldn't say that it was anything spectacular, but definitely above average. My eggs were cooked perfectly, and the meal was really filling. SERVICE: I must admit that the service here is great. Our waitress was really friendly and super helpful. She carried a great smile and presence that was nice to encounter. OVERALL: Compton's Pancake House is a great place to stop if you are in the area. I was impressed by the quality of food and service. Let me start with saying I expect absolutely nothing when I go to eat in this area. Everywhere sucks and I always go home mad I didn't just cook at home! However I checked out Comptons and it exceeded my expectations the food was hot and cooked to order. I have lived here for about 5 years now and when I've asked for crispy home fries it's never been done. But at Comptons it was! Food was decent high quality meats. Wait staff were friendly but most importantly the food was great with really great prices! I will be back. Our experience at Compton's last week Friday was a disappointment. I've been here multiple times before the last few years and this time everything has changed. We arrived around 11am. The floors were already sticky in the area we were seated. The menu is now limited to only breakfast and a few lunch options (quesadilla, chicken fingers, potato pancakes). The food was mediocre. The real reason for the 1 star review - the prices have ALL gone up and the owner has been too cheap to update the menus! They are paper menus at that. They have a small disclaimer at the bottom of the menu that says (prices subject to change) yet no mention was made of the prices going up when we ordered (that everyone who works there clearly knows!). For example - I was with 3 elderly women who all ordered from the senior's menu in order to be cost effective only to find out those prices had gone up over $1.50. I was also overcharged for the quesadilla by $3.50 and it was only cleared up AFTER I had to point it out. At that point the ladies who work there said oh yeah this happens a lot there is something wrong with the computer when ringing up the quesadilla. I wonder how many other people paid for the incorrect overcharge without looking at the bill? Lastly, they have signs all over the diner that say SAVE AND PAY CASH. In actuality - they should say Using a credit or debit card will cost you more. There was no "savings" but instead I had to pay an extra $5 to use my debit card. We won't be going back and even had to notify the tables around us to check their bills or go get cash out of the ATM as no one realized they'd be charged more to use their debit card. It's sad to see places that were once pillars in the community start to go downhill. read more

This rating is based on today's experience. I've left five stars in the past. We always loved Compton's but today we were very disappointed in our experience. Upon arriving the restaurant was 1/2 full. We were asked to sign in and there was a 15 min wait due to no help. I signed in and I was asked to write down my phone number. I said we'd wait and was told we had to wait outside and they would call us. It was 38 degrees outside. Why couldn't we wait in the empty chairs inside. We were told no. I responded that's a poor business model and was told by the cash register guy he didn't like my attitude. What a shame, it's always been a friendly and great place to eat. Not only are businesses short of help it looks like rude employees are in fashion. Hope the owner reads this, not sure we'll continue to be long time loyal customers. read more

I typically do not like diner food at all, but we were in the area and this place had really good reviews so we decided to give it a shot. When we got there the wait time was about 20 mins, which wasn't too long so they gave us a buzzer and asked us to wait in our car (can't wait in the entrance because of COVID). We were buzzed like 5 minutes later. We ordered the eggs with pancakes and meat, plus a side of home fries. Bacon was crispy but not burnt and had a nice smoky flavor. It didn't taste cheap or too greasy. Pancakes were beyond what I expected, they were neatly stacked and had a taste similar to hotcakes from McDonalds. They are probably the best pancakes I've ever had. Home fries were also really good, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Staff was friendly and service was quick. Truly some of the best breakfast food I've had in a while, simple yet delicious! The pancakes were flavorful, home fries crispy and well-seasoned, bacon was crispy, and the omelettes were really good too! Prices are fantastic for the amount of food you get. We were sat right away on a busy holiday morning and our waitress was very nice although very busy. Overheard some employees arguing by the coffee area but it was entertaining. We were visiting nearby Saylorsburg and trusty yelp led me to Comptons and so glad that we went!!!! After a short 15-20 minite wait we were seated outside where we were attended to by an excellent waitress. We ordered two plates of French toast, one with strawberries and one without in addition to a stuffed Colorado omelette with yummy meat, cheese, hashbrowns, and peppers topped with salsa. Its very rare that I will eat an entire omelet, let alone one that is stuffed but this omelet was so freakin good I finished the entire plate. The French toast was melt in your mouth. We definitely wanted to try the grits but by the time we arrived they were out. This just gives me another excuse to visit! I would highly recommend. Great service & tasty breakfast food. read more

Here for a ski weekend and was looking for a good breakfast spot came across this place on my maps and decided to go for it . The staff was very friendly, always refilling our water and coffee. Our waiter was super friendly and answered all of our questions . We came on a Saturday afternoon and we got seated pretty quickly . The food was decent but not out of this world . I got an omelette with home fries. My friend got buttermilk pancakes with apples and she thought they were pretty tasty. The restaurant had what look like a homemade hot sauce which had a nice kick it. Overall good experience and great hospitality. Pricing was on the lower side . read more

The place was not that full and the only thing chaotic at that moment was him. He was so unprofessional and tbh he needs to get his unibrow waxed. Our waitress was very nice but we won't return. Breakfast menu was oddly limited. That aside, when I ordered the eggs benedict I was told they can't order any hollandaise sauce, it hasn't been available for weeks (warning sign one...they don't make their own & can't go to the trouble to do so when they can't get the boxed stuff? Yuck). Ordered sausage gravy & biscuits & was told it was homemade. It must've been, because was super bland & could taste too much flour. I don't order sausage gravy often because it is usually too salty but this had no flavor at all & was light on the sausage to boot. Lastly, we asked for hot sauce (think Cholula, Frank's, etc), to try to help the dishes but they don't have any of those. They had a house made one that she brought, but it was way too spicy, & we enjoy some heat. They get 3 stars because of our waitress only. read more

Man who knew this little gem would be so amazing. It was our last day in PA and we wanted a really good breakfast before heading to the gun rage and this popped up on my breakfast search and the reviews were great so we gave it a try. Is a small mom and pops restaurant, it has such an amazing smell when you first enter which is a great sign. It has a real homey feel, I loved the decor and the chairs. They had a morning breakfast rush but we were seated in less than 5minutes. I decided to order the sussage gravy with biscuit and home fries and a side of waffles. My friends ordered the chicken and waffle, omlette, turkey bacon and pancakes. Everything tasted AMAZING!! I mean the waffle was light and fluffy and the pancakes, oh man those pancakes are killer, they were so good. I tried the chicken and waffles and the chicken was seasoned to perfection, crispy on the outside, super juicy on the inside. I thought the sussage gravy could have had a little more flavour, but I loved the biscuits and the home fries were really good. Side note their homemade hot sauce is outa this world.
