A few rants ago, I stated that I was going to try to be more mature on Yelp and not just be out to get people who wrong me. Well I'm going to have to come out of retirement and tell the world my story about how Best Buy's Geek Squad took advantage of my naivete and wasted over $200 of my hard earned money, much to my chagrin. But that's another story. I'll get to Best Buy one day when I'm not in such a good mood. The point is, if they hadn't screwed me over so royally, I wouldn't have discovered Computer Guy Solutions, the antithesis to Geek Squad's total lack of professionalism and disregard for customer satisfaction. Don and Barry are two guys who know their stuff and don't talk down to guys like me who don't speak the computer jargon. They explore several options with you before you commit to anything, and they're forthcoming with prompt and reasonable timetables for labor and repair. They did not try to up-sell me on things I did not need. This is very important to me, and so rare these days it was refreshing. They got rid of viruses Geek Squad missed, repaired files Geek Squad nearly erased, set up protections from future viruses and spyware, and got my computer's speed back up to par. In fact, they went above and beyond the repair services I paid for. I'm lucky these guys live right down the street from me, but I'd recommend them to you even if you live in Escondido. The service was that good, and good computer repair services are hard to come by these days. Between my experiences and those of my friends and acquaintances, there really aren't that many pros out there who are at the top of their game and manage to refrain from taking advantage of people who might not speak the language. This is also a good place to go if you need internet on the fly and need to drop in someplace. It beats the library, and CGS has cooler magazines than the library anyway. Cool little lounge area. Big thanks to Computer Guy Services for repairing my desktop PC. They were incredibly informative, thorough, helpful, generous, and thoughtful throughout the entire process. From the minute I dropped off my computer, they were communicative by phone every day, to let me know the status of my computer repair. They also gave me several detailed options throughout the process so I was getting exactly what I needed without having to spend more money than needed. CGS was very attentive to my needs and my budget and could NOT have been more helpful when I picked up the computer- explaining every last detail of the repair and upgrades they performed. They went as far as cleaning the entire machine inside and out without charging me any extra, and they even gave me a pair of computer speakers for FREE because they saw that I could use them and they had a pair at the office that were compatible with my machine. Barry and Don saved my life when I spilled water on my Macbook Pro. I frantically brought my computer into CGS and was terrified because I work from home and take online courses (my Mac = my life). The guys at CGS quickly dried everything out and managed to save all of my data on my hard drive. When it came time to talk business, I never felt like they were trying to sell me something that wouldn't benefit me. I definitely needed extra internal storage, so Don recommended to install a hybrid drive. Thing is a beast and I couldn't be happier. They also did a full recovery and installed Mac's new OS, including iWork and all my existing files. I had wanted (and needed) to update my hardware and double my RAM for quite some time, so I now consider that expensive spill a blessing in disguise. The whole thing took about a week - during which time I was able to use their computer/internet and even download CS6 trials to get my work done. My PC wouldn't boot. I'm pretty computer savvy and didn't have time to trouble shoot myself since I was still in the process of moving so I brought it to them. It took them 10 days to tell me that my computer just needed cleaning, then another few days to do a simple cleaning and get it back to me. So it ran me about close to $200 which I think is pretty steep. They also wanted me to pay in advance, which I thought was odd. Have never had to do that with anything, whether it be a car, lawnmower, or computer. They did do a few extras like install a free anti malware program that is widely available for free download online, but I think that is part of the normal diagnosing process. They are competent at what they do and very nice, but for the amount of time it took them to do something simple and the price, I wouldn't recommend them. read more

My laptop was overheating and shutting down so I took it in. It took a week to get a call back about diagnostics, which I thought was long, and the result was "nothing's wrong". Ummmmmm, but it shuts down all by itself multiple times a day??? They suggested I get it "dusted out" and then buy a cooling pad. Did both, still not fixed. Nice guys but appear to be disorganized, don't call back when they say, and don't communicate well when they do. read more

Took my sony vaio laptop to these guys because i had a screen problem explained to them that i thought the screen inverter was going bad and they said the screen was going bad we see this everyday and weve been doing this for years and said it would be around $250.00 to replace it i said i don't think it is the screen and i don't want to invest 250.00 into this one i would rather just buy a new one they tried to sell me a new one i said thanks but no thanks went home ordered a screen inverter on ebay for $4 free shipping installed it in 5 minutes and low and behold it works perfectly watch out for these guys the average man on the street is more educated all i did was google the problem and saved $246.00 go elsewhere read more

I took my Mac here after having every system and eventually my iCloud account hacked. The guy took a look at my computer and spent about 15 minutes or so looking at system logs before he gave it to me straight that there was nothing they could do to help. I appreciate them not wanting to sell me on anything that wouldn't help at that point and advised going straight to law enforcement. read more

My three year old laptop that I use for work just wouldn't turn on while I was on a tight deadline during Christmas week. Ouch! A friend recommended CGS in OB and off I went. These guys are the best! My laptop needed much more than a new battery, and because of my machine's features and processor it was worth saving. In the meantime, I used their in-house computer station and then a complimentary loaner from them to finish up work without skipping a beat. What great service! The gentleman behind the counter helped me so much today. You wouldn't believe the situation I found myself in! My phone was about to die so I did t want you use the last bit of life I had to as a documents into my work, the Internet on my lap top was not working for some reason and I had tried everything to get it to work the gentleman worked on my lap top I was able to charge my phone for a bit and even use a self-serve computer for $2 every ten minutes which I only needed 10 minutes to send what I needed to my fellow co workers before our office closed. Thank goodness for this place or I would have never sent everything in on time. read more

Called to inquire on hard drive data recovery, the guy on the phone took the time to explain to me honestly the process and possible cost involved. (Had just called another place, where that guy said, "no problem, we can help you" even though no one else had been successful...hate that kind of nonsense!). Both in my ignorance of computers and thinking they cared that I was a local in o b. sold me an old Mac book pro from 3 generations back for almost the price of a new one. When it crashed after a month they immediately pulled out there receipt saying they were only responsible after 2 or so weeks. Offered to fix it for $475 and acted like they were doing me a favor. Took It somewhere and fixed it for $125. These guys will take you for a ride if you let them. read more

I dropped off my computer here for a diagnostic when it suddenly stopped working on me. I paid ahead of time for the work. The price was comparable to all the other places I looked. But I wanted to keep it local and CGS was right in my neighborhood and had good reviews. They did not call me to tell me the status of my repair for several days. When I stopped by to ask about it, Don was at the counter. He told me that someone else was working on it and he could not give me an update yet. He offered that if I wanted my computer to be fixed faster I could pay more money to give me priority. But I was in no hurry I just wanted to know what was wrong with it. I received a call from Dave the guy who was diagnosing my computer a week after dropping it off and was informed that it was fixed but that it had a pretty much unfix-able memory card slot and the RAM is only running at half capacity. He suggested a fix for it but did not strongly recommend it. I respect that he offered but did not insist on the additional repair since it was not supported by the manufacturer. The next day when I went to plug in my computer at home I noticed that Dave had given me the wrong power cord back with my laptop. I called and left a voice-mail about this error and received a call the same day from Don who apologized and asked me to come in so I could get the right adapter. When I went in he was very nice and tried every power cord they had there until mine was found. He even went an extra mile and cleaned up some pop ups and start up stuff that was annoying me for free and gave me a mouse pad and the $20 yelp discount for all my trouble. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is having computer problems or just wants their computer to run faster. They really are pros and care a lot about their customers. read more

i have been using Computer Guy Services for years -- from saving the day when malware took over one of my computers, to buying a new computer, to updating what I thought was an out of date computer (which runs faster than when it was new) BUT THE BEST YET .. my 13 year old grandson arrived in town for 2 weeks and had no idea how to use my Mac for games and whatever 13 year olds do on computers.
