I requested a quote for a 2020 Apple M1 chip laptop 13.3 inches that I PURCHASED BRAND NEW this year probably in March 2022, I still have the receipt. I was in the market for a new tablet that I could use to edit videos for my new youtube channel. My current IPad Air 4 was up to the task but unfortunately it only has 256 gb and I was constantly encountering issues with storage capacity. So I figured I'd see if I could find a deal on one a newly released IPad Pro 11" 1 TB configuration. As everyone knows they are definitely on the pricey side. Retail is $1499 for what I wanted so I started to do some research into finding a deal. In the past I'd been able to find some pretty good deals on Apple products on Ebay but haven't found any lately but decided to look anyway. To my surprise you can find some pretty good deals on the 1 TB version. The trick to Ebay is finding an honest and legitimate seller that isn't going to bait and switch you with something that isn't what it seems. I was strictly looking for a unit that was still brand new and sealed in it's original packaging. Looked around and decided to go with Computer Overhauls. They were offering up a unit for $1174.95. Heck, that was a good $325 off of retail. They had all positive reviews and everything looked legit so I went for it. Took all but around a week to receive the IPad and I'm happy to say that everything is exactly as described! These guys are top notch and legit. I contacted Computer Overhauls about selling an old laptop PC. They responded to my email inquiry very quickly and gave me everything I needed to know before taking the computer in, including the range of amounts they would pay me for it. My trip there was easy: 7th floor at 7 Penn Plaza, just below MSG. I was greeted warmly and the technician confirmed everything I had said in my original inquiry. I left in about fifteen minutes with cash in hand. They paid me the highest number they quoted me. Other reviewers have left negative comments at this point: they received less than originally quoted. I'm sorry for their sake, but the reality is that the condition of the device is critical. It may appear to a consumer to be in "good condition," but a reseller knows what s/he can get for it. If you think you can get more for your device, list it on eBay. But if you want cash now and don't want to mess with possibly fraudulent buyers, go to Computer Overhauls. Another note: the technician told me that they use eBay to determine a price point for your device. Obviously they're paying you less than what it's going for on eBay. (My hunch is that they'll pay 75% of the going eBay sale price.) But then again, they're doing the work of cleaning your device and making sure it will actually sell. To me, the savings in time and hassle is worth 25% of the possible selling price. Last thing: Computer Overhauls also sells used devices. The lobby doubles as a showroom for iMacs, MacBooks, and Windows PCs. If you're looking to save some money and are willing to buy a used and refurbished machine, you should check them out. They have a warranty policy posted on the wall, and (if I remember correctly) a thirty-day refund. All in all, they were very professional to deal with, and I would go there again. Stopped in today to sell my iPhone 6s. Good condition, everything works great. I spoke with them via email before stopping in as the charger that I had was frayed. They told me that for good condition I would be paid $168. Without the charger it's 10 less. I'm there and the guy takes off the case. He says the volume button to go up is "hard to press" (what?) and the volume button down is fine. So they quoted me $84 for a perfectly good phone. I walked out! All these reviews about how fair they are with pricing are bogus. The volume clearly works, the phone works, they're just trying to be crooks. Never again. My computer was dead- d.e.a.d, dead. This was particularly upsetting, as it was less than a year and a half old (yay, Gateway). I didn't have the cash for a new one, so I was hoping a whole new motherboard wouldn't break the bank. I chose this place specifically because it was convenient to work, and their website actually made them look legit, unlike many other businesses I looked at. I dropped it off, super easy, they gave me free diagnostics (yep, dead motherboard, as expected) and a quote of $229 if they were able to repair the current board. So I waited about a week and a half and heard nothing. I called them, they were "still trying everything they could" to fix it- ok, good. A week later, I called again and was told "oh, right, we couldn't fix it so we're waiting for a part" the quote for a new motherboard was $329, ok. A week after THAT, still no response- I called, the response was that the part wasn't becoming available, so they had to send it out for a new part. TWO MONTHS later, after harassing them a few times, I go to pick up my computer and am given a $550 bill. Uh... excuse me? After politely informing them that the bill was bullshit, they fixed it, and brought me back to my original quote. The first few (20) times i tried to boot it up, I was greeted with worse problems than when I had to drop it off, but now it seems to be going just fine. I'd give this place a better rec if they had more timely service and kept me more informed on the situation. **UPDATE** Got a call yesterday, which may or may not have been initiated because of the above review, from the owner. He gave me a FULL refund because of the wait time, as it's supposed to be only 4-5 days. He was very apologetic, and even told me that if my computer was having issues still, they'd give me a new, better one, for free. I don't think I'll need to take him up on the latter offer, but how fabulous of them, anyway! read more

I live in NY and I'm pretty skeptical of businesses that want to pay you cash for old electronics, but I have to say, I was really impressed with Computer Overhauls. They were super easy to find, right off the subway near Penn Station. Their office is in a nice, clean building with a security person working the desk. I was expecting to find something like one of the "electronic stores" you see in Times Square, but this was a nice, clean, professional office and everyone there was super professional and nice. They paid cash, right on the spot. They quoted me a price through email before I came and I was happy to find that they didn't try to haggle me down in their office. They paid exactly what they said they would. Based on my experience, this seems like a very reputable place and I wouldn't hesitate to trade in your old stuff for cash or buy from their eBay store. I so wanted this to work out. I stil do, somehow, even though its time to say goodbye, computer overhauls. i came here to buy a refurbished computer for home use. as i live in a small studio, my computer is pretty much my entire source of information and entertainment. I'm not making movies here, mixing music, oh no. writing a resume is probably about as serious as it could possibly ever get for the computer in my life. I just need to stream movies, read gossip-y websites, check email, and facebook. i dont need anything else from a laptop....but i need it to work, consistently. I came here and figured this place would meet my needs that seem to me to be low-key. I first bought a shiny nice new-looking refurbished HP for $399, plus i bought a years worth of protection. Brought it home, and it started freezing while watching movies. brought it back in, they recovered it and reinstalled software (when i hear the term recover i kinda just feel in my gut that a computer is on its way out, and its like a temporary band-aid). brought the comp back home, still had same problems. i exchanged the hp for a refurbished macbook, circa 2008. they have a stack of these right out front. the first mac i was shown turned out to have a flickering screen....next one's battery wouldn't charge. then i got one out of the pile that seemed alright....and it was. for about two days. until it started making clicking noises while i was watching a movie, and from there it was downhill. freezing, getting stuck, webpages crashing, infuriating circle color ball that happens when shit is going haywire on a mac. I HATE best buy, and im sure i wont be a fan of whatever J&R music store kinda place i wind up buying a new, moderately priced laptop at next. but i give up on used. Im sure within the towers of computers at computer overhauls, there are some that work fantastic, i just dont have the energy to keep lugging computers to and from from manhattan to brooklyn until i get lucky and find one. I work for myself and my primary tool is my laptop. It is my simply my sole income. So when I call around to find a place to fix it after an accident, my two important questions are 'do you have parts in stock', and 'how long will this take'. These guys were wonderful over the phone and confirmed in stock and that will take 2 days. However when I came in to drop off, they said 2-3 days, to which I made VERY clear that my situation and that I can only afford it to be 2 days. I have had this exact same problem before and it was fixed well within the 2 day period by a busy auth mac repairer in SF. And i understood the glue alone takes 24 hours to dry. Assured I then left trusting that it would be done. I got the call the next day that he had to replace the whole lid and would cost more, ok fine.... but importantly he had in stock. And also, no glue, surely this made it easier for meeting the deadline. But no, 48 hours later, I couldnt wait any longer. I just lost hundreds in lost revenue, hardcore deadlines looming, only to find that they STILL had not touched my computer. I was furious, yet didn't even get a sorry when i confronted them. Yes, i was pissed off and basically having a melt down right there and then. But not a single effin word from the manager/tech guy. I am clearly still mad writing this. I cannot comment on their quality of workmanship. All i know is their professionalism is severely lacking and definitely not someone you want to put trust in when its affecting your bottom line. I agreed to sell my computer to them, about 1 hour after Alex called me with a proposal 1 day before I made the sale. Alex, had told me that the price that I was asking is about what I would get if I sold it on ebay. I did want to go through that, again, so I accepted the deal, knowing that Computer Overhauls, needs to make a profit from the work they do. Don't go here! They tried to turn a $130 job into a $250+ job, even though I had the invoice for $130. First I waited almost a week to hear back from them, then they tried to overcharge me as above, then after it all they told me the parts weren't available. What a waste of my time! The fact that I can write this review without my computer crashing is a testament to the service from Computer Overhauls. Someone from the IT department at my graduate school recommended this place to me. My motherboard was kaput and I didn't want to send my laptop to its manufacturer in Texas due to outrageous shipping fees. The location of this place, right outside of Penn Station, was super convenient. They stay open until 7:00 PM on weekdays, which really worked well with my class schedule. The diagnostic for the laptop was FREE, even if I chose to bring my laptop elsewhere. Computer Overhauls diagnosed the problem in less than a day, and began working on the laptop immediately when I paid the $99 deposit on their website. I liked that Computer Overhauls communicated over e-mail. The person who worked on my case was very helpful and gave updates along the way. I was told it would take 2-4 weeks to fix my laptop, and it took less than 2 weeks. Now my laptop runs faster than ever. The best part is that my repair came with a 90 day guarantee; if my motherboard crashes again, I can bring it back to the shop, no problem! Outstanding customer service. They no longer do computer repairs unless you purchased the laptop from them. 1) I popped over to see them because I thought they could fix my boyfriend's laptop, which has been on the fritz for months, including months it was under warranty (ahem) 2) I walked in and stood there for a good couple minutes before anyone even noticed I was there. When they finally did, two of them looked at each other silently and finally one was like, "I'll do it." So not a great customer service feeling. 3) I explained the issue and he said "We don't do repairs like that." Naturally then, I asked what kind of repairs they did, thinking maybe they only did big HDD stuff, but he basically said they don't do repairs for computers that weren't purchased from them - so don't come here expecting the vaunted free diagnostic or any of the great things that were advertised in previous Yelp reviews! 4) He did suggest an alternative place for me to go but really just seemed to want to go back to the repair cave. So I let him. Otherwise, this place is a little weird. Computers for sale in the middle of an office building? This building definitely isn't zoned for retail. When i got to the store they almost didnt accept my MacBook (early 2008) because they said they had too many and it was in immaculate condition. The guys who work in this store are fantastic. My old Dell laptop died recently and I was seeking a replacement, preferably a refurb, but I wanted to buy local so if anything went wrong I could address it in person. Computer Overhauls was the only refurb laptop store I found that listed their complete inventory online to browse. I went into the store wanting to look at two different machines. The guys were patient, showed me both machines I wanted to look at and also, when they turned out to be not exactly what I wanted (no buttons on touchpad, no chiclet keyboards) they showed me quite a few others until I found one I liked. With each computer, they unboxed it, booted it up and let me fiddle around until I was comfortable. I was in there for about 45 minutes, people were coming in and out the whole time with various needs/questions, and the service I got and the other people coming in and out was really personal and patient and awesome. I ended up with a laptop I felt really good about buying, they gave me a discount on the price and 30 days to return it or exchange it, no questions asked. I would recommend an in-store visit to anyone looking to purchase a refurbished laptop, as what I thought I wanted online didn't end up being what I actually wanted, and I think if you go in the store and let them work with you to find the right machine you will leave a very satisfied customer. The headphone jack on my iPod was fixed within my lunch hour for $50. Half the price Apple wanted to charge. Seems like a pretty respectable establishment - they make sure to tag everything with numbered stickers & receipts so items don't get lost - this was a concern of mine since my iPod looks like everyone elses. Looks like they sell laptops too, I can't speak to that, but personally I would never buy a laptop unless it was direct from the manufacturer or through Best Buy.
