So happy I found the Computer Palace back in 2016 when I bought a brand new computer from Navid. He guided me right and I still have the computer he recommended to this day. Do not buy a computer from a large chain. You will never get the same expertise, customer service, or knowledge. Fred recently took that very computer and backed up all my data, installed a new hard drive and operating system, and transferred all files back and even set up Chrome with my bookmarks and apps and installed new software! Everything was reinstalled just as I had it before, but better. It's like I have a new computer that is faster than I expected for a fraction of the cost. Like Ching T. noted: There is parking in the rear! Don't waste money or time trying to park on the street. I brought in my gateway computer to replace my huge HD screen which I broke, like an idiot, by carrying my computer (and therefore putting all the pressure of my thumb) on the corner of said screen during a drunken night. Kids, DON'T DRINK AND COMPUTE! It's never worth it! It took me long enough to actually take my computer in... and my poor boyfriend got sick enough of me using his laptop that he finally ended up paying for mine to get fixed! What a sweetheart! The service was prompt and they were able to give me an estimate over the phone which they pretty much managed to keep. Although I was charged a recycling fee which I had originally been told nothing of, I wasn't really upset about it because it was very minimal and I was really happy to hear they had recycled my old screen. Ultimately, between that fee and the tax they really only went over a few bucks from the estimate. In all I was charged $216.00 for parts, labor, tax and recycling fee. Which was better than the estimates I got everywhere else I called... including Gateway. I got my computer back after 4 days and its as good as new! And now I'm back to Yelping! read more

I highly recommend this computer repair shop. My work laptop had an accidental spill of water and Fred took care of everything and had my laptop fixed in less than 24 hours. He was very responsive and did not take advantage by over pricing me. When I called the Geek squad through Best Buy they told me it would take 2 weeks to fix minimum. I am so impressed with Computer Palace and Fred and would trust them to fix any computer issues you have. Fred is incredible, no doubt about it. There was a little confusion about what kind of keyboard I had on my well-worn 2015 HP Envy and we ultimately had to unhook the sub-woofer (sad face). But I have a new keyboard that works brilliantly and the static from the speakers is gone. So for B quality sound and $350, I've basically got a "new" laptop and it only took about 10 days. Fred was up-front about what he could and couldn't do and how much it would cost; he is a VERY solid fellow. I initially put 4 stars, but that would be a dick move and everybody needs higher ratings, so take that extra star to bring up your average. Free parking is worth it! read more

This place is awesome! I The battery/DC power jack went bad. Fry's and other places were going to charge me like $80 just to diagnose the problem and then about $200 for typical repairs with no guarantees. So almost $300 bucks. I almost just bought a new laptop, but then I discovered this place. The owner told me he knew the problem and would get the part for $45 and charge $80 for labor. I had the computer back working just great in 4 days. Totally worth it! $128 as opposed to a new laptop. read more

Attempted big rip-off. Came in with fried motherboard, the guy tried to steer me to purchase one of his sub-par towers at 1.5 times the quoted price to repair mine. Upon requesting repair, his quote was absurd, pretending a 3 yr old tower had no motherboards that would 'fit' anymore, they 'were all too large', so I'd need to pay an additional $90 for him to replace the tower cover with a larger one. Wow, total BS. Instead, I found an online guy who makes home repairs, he sent me a link to purchase the motherboard I selected (to retain the warranty -- and, no, it's not too 'large'), then he came and installed and tested. read more

Yes, totally a 5 star experience. What makes the business stellar, is the fact that they would rather make less money in the short term, in order to have a long term customer--not that common an attitude these days. I am very tech savvy when it comes to Apple products, but I needed to have Windows running on one of my computers since I have a new CNC machine with software that is Windows only, and I haven't touched a PC in 20 years. Fred solved my problem, after listening to what I needed. He showed me several desktop PC's which were well priced, but suggested I could just run Windows with Bootcamp, on the Mac Mini I had brought it for repair. That saved me several hundred dollars. I did my best to install Windows, but hit a snag. When I called Fred, he said to bring it in, and for a very modest fee, he put the Windows 7 Pro I had purchased onto my Mini. I wish I had just had him do this in the first place. This experience made me a loyal customer, and I have been telling friends about what a positive experience I had at Computer Palace. read more

I dropped my Dell laptop while holding it with only three fingers.... (blame on myself...) I had to either buy a new laptop , which would cost me from $600~700 or have it fixed for around $200. (People told me to replace it by myself, but if you watch how to replace a new screen on youtube.. you would freak out.. the computer should be totally taken apart.. there is no way that i would be able to break it down and get it back together even if it would cost me about $100) I called many places and the korean owned notebookshop.com quote me about $250.. the other guy who fixes it told me that it would be better to buy a new laptop.. Why buy new one when everything is working well,? Computer palace quote me $205, ($145 part, $60 labor. very clear) and plus tax $217.. I picked it up today, I am very happy. I really couldn't be more pleased with the services here. Simply needing for my laptop keyboard to be replaced, Fred first tried cleaning it in order to save me money, stating that if it still wasn't working, the $35 fee for cleaning would be put towards installing a new keyboard. Sure enough, when my keyboard started acting wonky again, I simply called and spoke to Fred. He ordered the keyboard, called me when it came in, and had the new keyboard installed while I ate lunch around the corner (45 min). Best of all, my total repair was simply the price of the keyboard ($49.00) as well as the orginal $35. This problem popped up almost a year before while I was still living in Portland. The price I was quoted at my local repair shop for the keyboard was double Computer Palace's - $109, so I opted to wait. My point is, not only do they repair your laptop quickly, they may also be quite a bit cheaper than other places. I will be getting a "tune up" for my beleaguered desktop this summer, once summer starts, and I don't' need it for school. Having just moved to LA, I am still struggling to find the best and most inexpensive shops for running various errands - I am so grateful to have found my computer repair shop! Brought in a Dell PC laptop that had given me the blue screen of death with an unmountable boot volume. Although they couldn't fix the computer (the hard drive was too damaged - and honestly had given me nothing but trouble for the 4 years I'd had it) they managed to recover all of my data. Although the process took a few days, they stayed in touch with me and let me know what was happening every step of the way. When I cracked my Macbook screen, I called several different places trying to get a quote on cost and how long it would take to repair. One place insisted my only option was the AppleStore, even though it would take probably more than a week for them to ship it to and from a service location. When I called Computer Palace, not only did they give me the lowest quote I'd heard, but they told me they could get it to me in a day--and they did! I will not take my computer anywhere else after my experience at Computer Palace. On April 18, 2011, I dropped my laptop off there for service. It would not stay powered on, would get very hot, and kept saying to check the CPU fan. I dealt with the owner or manager Fred, who was very fair and said they would also run a diagnostic check and clean out any viruses, etc. That very same night I took a very bad spill down my stairs at home and snapped 5 ligaments in my right ankle. Subsequently, I was off from work on a Dr.'s note for SEVEN months. During that time, I was barely surviving on state disability pay, which created great hardship financially for me. I kept in touch w/Fred on and off for those 7 months, and told him I simply could not afford to pick up my laptop, even though the final cost to repair it was $120.00 to clean out the lint in my CPU fan and clean out any excess garbage. I was in dire straits financially. I had read my contract, which stated that after 3 weeks of not picking up an item, the daily storage fee was $5.00. I was greatly concerned about this, as I simply could not afford it. In January 2012 (almost 9 months later!), I was finally back on my feet, literally and financially, and stopped in to finally pick up my laptop. Fred STILL only charged me the original $120.00, and not a penny more. Now THAT's what I call customer service. Fred is a true gentleman, and it meant the world to me that he did not charge me ANY storage fees due to my hardship. Thank you Fred and Computer Palace! You have my business for life. read more

I am so glad I called computer palace for a replacement battery for my MacBook Pro 15 inch mid 2010. My battery was exploding and I hadn't backed up my computer in a year. Yikes- I know! The gentleman who answered the phone was so courteous and helpful. He had a battery at a great price (compared to the dozens of batteries I thoroughly reviewed on Amazon)! I went over there and he even threw in the special screwdrivers. He took some time to tell me the technique I needed to replace the battery safely. I went home and did it. Fred is AMAZING! He is honest, polite and extremely intelligent. I brought my iMac to them because they were the only repair shop open the morning I needed help. They restored my data, found my lost files and fixed the issue I was having. After about 3 weeks something else happened that made my computer start running extremely slow. My experience was terrible. Took iMac to them in 10/2019 for general tune up. Was told they also installed a new better fan. Turns out fan very noisy but since using at home, didn't worry. However now that using a lot of ZOOM, people are complaining about the noice. Took back early 10/2020 - less than a year since last visit. Was told it was a software issue, corrected, and was charged $90.00. Took home. Quiet for about 2 days then the noise came back. I'm in my 80s, disabled. Don't have time to run back and forth to that shop to see if they can fix it. Taking elsewhere. Beware. read more

If you are looking for affordable, knowledgeable, and HONEST computer technicians, look no further than Computer Palace. Several months ago, I had some problems with my computer and I took it to a repair shop in Santa Monica. After they tried charging me $545 (!!!!) for a simple repair, I decided to take my computer to Computer Palace for a second opinion. They gave me a quote that was substantially less than the Santa Monica repair shop and explained to me exactly what was wrong with my computer. They did NOT try charging me for excessive repair work that I did not need. My computer works fine now and I have returned to Computer Palace to buy a few things (mouse pad, cable, etc.). They are always helpful and courteous. I will definitely be giving this place my business in the future. P.S. They have plenty of free parking in the back. read more

Horrible, horrible experience. On the advice of a friend, we took two laptops and an iPad there on July 3rd. They all needed new screens and mine also needed hinges. We took two other tablets, but they told us they couldn't fix those. They told me two weeks because of the holiday/ When I called them on July 20th, the lady put me on hold and came back to tell me they will be finished that day. Ummm... right. I knew that meant "we forgot all about you after you left a $200 deposit and we're going to rush through it now." I told her to take their time and I would be there on Wednesday (two days). But they obviously rushed it anyway. The iPad looked good for about three days and then the screen broke in the exact same spot. My computer seemed to open properly, but when I turned it on - I still had only ¾ of a screen... exactly as it was when I gave it to them. And, less than two months later, the new hinges are broken WORSE than when I took it in to them. In fact, my screen now hangs there and I need a monitor. My son's screen was fixed correctly (AMAZING, I know), but his battery, which was perfectly fine when we took it there and is not user serviceable, was complete junk and he needs to keep it plugged in ALL the time. Moreover, there was suddenly a new problem which caused his computer to take over 30 minutes to start up every time and we had to reinstall the OS. Making matters worse is that we drove over 100 miles (twice) to go there because my friend recommended them so highly. What a horrible waste of over $400. Never again. read more

They don't say that diagnostic is 45 bucks. I had to figure it out myself. After a few minutes of thinking, I just came back to that place to get my laptop back. You know why? When I took my MacBook pro to the Mac store for repair they told me that my computer was "vintage" & that I might as well get a WHOLE NEW MAC because the hard drive had to be replaced. This would end up costing about $800 ... Hearing this convinced me to find a second opinion, luckily I found the Computer Palace... My Mac book ended up needing a new video chip, costing about $130. I would recommend this place to everyone, especially Mac users who aren't ready to shell out the dough for repairs. read more

I ran across the website for this place which says it buys old computers. I was really only interested in taking them to goodwill, but I figured why not get some money for them? I wasn't expecting much, I mainly wanted to get the hard drives erased. So I called them on the phone and told them EXACTLY what I had. I was told they would buy my equipment AND erase my hard drives, so I made a special trip out there. When I got there the guy was an unfriendly jerk. Unlike what I was told on the phone, he didn't want to buy anything. When I asked about erasing the hard drives so I could recycle them, he told me to take them home, remove the hard drives and smash them with a hammer. I could have done that myself without making a trip out there to have a really rude guy tell me that. Don't believe anything these people tell you over the phone. read more
