We ate here for a new spot on the beach. My wife wanted to try this place for several years. We had a short wait after placing our name in with the hostess. The location is prime and the view is beautiful. We definitely had to sit outside on the patio. The waitress was excellent and worked hard to meet our needs. The atmosphere was loud and it appeared the staff was overwhelmed at times trying to keep up with the service. We ordered the conch fritters, crab cake sandwich, and the shrimp poyboy. The fritters seemed bland and okay at best. The crab cake was a good a portion size with flavor. The poyboy was disappointing because normally a shrimp poyboy is served on a toasted hoagie with a pile of fried shrimp. Our experience wasn't bad. We have been staying in Surfside on vacation for about the last 10 years. Conch Cafe has been a family favorite. We arrived at the airport last night and drove straight there. They do not take reservations, but we were seated in about 15 minutes. My kids were happy to put their toes in the sand while we waited. I locked my shoes off and waded into the water and realized they had text me that our table was ready. All 5 of us got seafood. I had a salad that was fresh and crisp with raspberry vinegarette, and my mom and I shared the Fisherman's Feast. I thought it was quite affordable for what all you got. My daughter had the flounder dinner and it was sticking off both sides of her platter. Despite the decline in food quality/quanity for the price that we have seen in the past few years overall when dining out, Conch Cafe hasn't change. It is still our favorite. Although there was great scenery with good customer service, the food was terrible. Calamari was practically breaded rubber, shrimp was insanely salty and overall cooked very poorly, and they also had a gentleman going around taking pictures of families only to come back later with the printed out pictures asking if you'd like to pay 20-40 dollars for a picture(s) that looked right out of a photo booth. Frankly, it's a mediocre restaurant that uses its destination on the beach as an excuse to overcharge for piss poor food. read more

This place has AMAZING STAFF the customer service is 10/10. The view is 10/10 plus the food and drinks were a must have. Me and my family came in together recently and I had the Pasta A La Holly IT WAS PHENOMENAL! Would recommended! My siblings got the fish tacos and the grilled salmon and won't stop talking about it. This was our first visit here and it was GREAT. Absolutely the BEST dinner we had the whole week of vacation. The she-crab soup was the best I've ever had. I had salmon with shrimp and it was phenomenal! No one in our party had any complaints other than portions where to large and we were stuffed. Service was awesome, Our waitress Megan was a gem. Pretty busy place and a great location to view the beach while you eat. One downfall is their menu doesn't offer many options for people that don't eat seafood. It has plenty of options for the person in your group that enjoys seafood so that is a plus! We got greeted as soon as we got to the table and got our sweet teas a short time later, very good tea I should add. I ordered their chicken sandwhich but wondered why a type of sauce did not come on it. That being said I got some of their honey mustard to try with it. Once I got it the chicken had plenty of flavor but I still thought the honey mustard made it even better. I got a side of coleslaw but ended up wasting it because I wasn't into the flavor. I also I tried the flounder po boy my friend got and their fries which both were good. My friend and I decided just to split the cocktail flight, and some appetizers. The drinks were on the sweet side but they were good. I really liked the concept of the flight of cocktails so you can try different ones. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp, and the buffalo shrimp, and I had the she crab soup. The soup was excellent and both shrimp apps were delicious too. But the star of this meal was the grouper fingers!!! The waitress recommended these melt in your mouth gems. So glad she did! I wanted to love the Conch Cafe, but they fell short. The aesthetics were so-so. Nothing special to rave about, looks like it hasn't been updated in a long, long time. We both ordered the Filet Oceanside - 8 oz. tenderloin topped with shrimp, scallops, asparagus and hollandaise. It was served with a side a green beans and choice of potato. The steak was good along with the toppings. The green beans, however, were awful. Absolutely dreadful and neither of us could eat them. Came around 4:30pm in a Saturday. Got seated for 2 almost immediately. Our waitress got our drinks and then let us have more time to look at the menu for our food. I got the fish tacos and he got the P.O.'boy sandwich, both with fries as the sides (the only sides to choose from for the sandwiches were the fries, potato chips, or coleslaw but if there had been more sides like broccoli or mashed potatoes it would've been a lot better). The fish tacos were pretty good probably the only thing I'd come back for besides the bacon wrapped shrimp my boyfriends sister recommended. My boyfriend didn't like the po'Boy. It wasn't very flavorful and dry. It was $12 for the po'Boy (not worth) and my fish tacos were $10. The salsa makes it so much better. The combination with all the cheese and salsa make the fish taste a bit like chicken. It's not a very fishy fish which is good because I don't like the fishy taste but there wasn't much on the menu that interested me or that I wanted for that price. We did outside seating and it was a nice view right on the beach. It was $24 for our meal and we tipped $5. It's conveniently located for beach gooers and right outside the ocean shores community. We went there because it was so close but we would like to try somewhere else the next time we are in Garden city. read more

Once again, the WORST restaurant on the beach when it comes to customer service. We have been going there every year for decades with a large family group. They have really been bad in past years and I swore never to go back, but my wife wanted to. The advertised that they were doing take out. Let that sink in, THEY SAID THEY WERE DOING TAKEOUT. My wife went up there, fighting fourth of July traffic because she wanted to get their seafood salad. They refused her service. Why? Because she wanted takeout. Which they advertised they were offering. Said they were "focusing" on dining-in only. Why do people even go here? They are liars and don't give a damn about customers because they know they will be gone in a week at most for the most part. Stay as far away as possible. read more

The food was nothing like it was in years past it was very disappointing. I gave the waitress the opportunity to take it off my bill. Which for the whole group was $150, but she ignored my comment evidently so I paid for it. I told her that they didn't need to serve that to anyone else. It was either spoiled or way overcooked no flavor at all and for some reason, this time there were flies everywhere I mean an abundance of flies so it was not the most pleasant experience. Conch Cafe has the best location in Surfside - on the beach. It's a great place to take a break from the sun for lunch and a drink. They have a great selection of frozen drinks as well as a full bar. We had dinner here because it was an easy walk from our place and right on the beach. As expected, we had to wait for about 45 minutes which wasn't too bad with a drink from the bar. The service here is terrific! Our server, Amanda hustled all night keeping our tea and other drinks full. I ordered a bowl of The She-Crab soup rather than a cup 'cause it was only a buck more. The bowl was huge! And the she-crab soup was delicious with lots of crab. I had the small fried shrimp platter which has a dozen shrimp, French fries, slaw and a couple hush puppies. Our group enjoyed their food as well. This is a great place if you're nearby. read more

Good luck at finding a table! Our party of 8 just left - after waiting for an hour and a half. We watched several other parties come and go. We stared at two large tables that sat empty for "reservations." They were never seated during the entire time we waited. When we politely asked the hostess for table updates, on multiple occasions we were told that we were next. Then other groups of four and five would be seated shortly after asking. The hostess would then say they were preparing our table - then she would proceed to sit other groups. We remained calm and patient throughout our long wait - then left and enjoyed a lovely sandwich from a nearby restaurant while enjoying a picnic on the beach. We are frequent visitors and unfortunately will not return to the Conch Cafe. Instead - will enjoy our new "secret crab cake sandwich" spot. Much tasty! Much cheaper! No wait! read more

A wonderful dinner! We were seated quickly and were happy to get a table on the patio overlooking the ocean. Amazing view. Our server was very pleasant, prompt, and kind. She had everything in order and we didn't have to wait for much of anything at all. My order came out just as I had ordered it and everything came out fairly quickly. I ordered the salmon that came with the honey, soy, and ginger glaze. I had also wanted it Oscar style which came with crab meat, shrimp, scallops, and a hollandaise sauce. I didn't think the hollandaise and soy/ginger sauce would go well together so she offered to put them both in the side. It came with green beans and mashed potatoes. The salmon was huge! Tons to eat. I ate the toppings with the hollandaise and then the salmon with the glaze. The scallops were terrific and cooked perfectly. The salmon was slightly overdone but with the size of the salmon steak, that's to be expected. Lastly I ordered the Oreo pie and it was a perfect end to the meal.
