We used to go to the Conch Cafe every year on vacation. We absolutely love sitting outside and eating while watching the ocean. The crab cakes are pretty good. We decided this year that the joy of sitting out wasn't enough to overcome fairly pricey food and a limited menu. Maybe you will find something on the menu that you love. Went for lunch and sat on the rail. Ordered She-Crab soup, which was delicious, and the large garden salad with crab cakes. I was thrilled to discover they give you two pretty good sized crab cakes. Been coming to the beach for most of my 65 years. Never heard of this place. My son found this place and we all went there tonight. Bar none best seafood I've had in my life. Crab cakes were fantastic. Calamari was fantastic. Conch fritters were fantastic. Shrimp even better. The view is certainly worth a stop. The server was very attentive and friendly. The meal however was not memorable. We both ordered a salad with ahi tuna. The tuna was prepared as requested but had no flavor. Being fans of ahi tuna and ordering it regularly we were disappointed that it was nothing more than a piece of fish on a bed of greens. A little attention to seasoning would have made the meal memorable. The view is truly lovely so try something different on the menu and you will probably be very happy. Went there for lunch with my family since it was only a few block from where we stayed. The main selling point for the restaurant is its view. You can't beat being located on the beach with a panoramic view of the ocean. The view alone is worth eating here. The food was great too, we ordered a variety of dishes and all of them were really good. We also ordered a pitcher of Sangria, while greatly refreshing, it could have use a little red wine in it. Almost every time my wife and I go to the beach we eat here. The seafood is cooked to perfection, the service is very good, and there is an ocean view from the seaside covered deck. We usually order the large seafood platter which comes with shrimp, scallops, oysters, deviled crab and fish. The she crab soup is delicious!! The onion rings are yummy so we opt for those instead of French fries. The sweet tea is great but they also offer beer, wine and mixed drinks. It's a great place to eat!! read more

This place gets jammed so they likely won't care about this review. First, the food was marginal at best. Not worth the 25 minute wait for a table. Second, I asked the waitress if it was ok that I do some work. She said it was fine. I told her I would order food in 30 minutes then leave her a nice tip. I asked to occupy the table for a couple of hours. She ordered my food on cue and I ate. After I ate I paid my $18 dollar bill and gave her a $20 tip. Then they asked me to leave. There are options up and down Surfside that are much much better. Don't waist your tim on a place who could give two flips about making a customer happy. From the time we were seated, our server (Maddie), seemed like we were an inconvenience to her and took very minimal time to serve us, she constantly seemed rushed and was not observant to our needs. I ordered a garden salad w/ grilled Mahi. The "salad" was a plate of lettuce, 2 cherry tomatoes, 2 cucumber slices, 2 ribbons of carrots, and 2 red onion rings and the mahi was extremely dry. Almost the entire salad and entire piece of mahi sat in front of me, at no point did Maddie take a minute to observe this and ask if there was a problem. Got the fried seafood platter....clams and scallops were waaaay to stretchy to chew - couldnt eat them. Did get the grouper fingers for appetizers and loved them. A bit more greasy than I remember but they were good. Steamed carrots were hard and everything, everything needed seasoning. Crab cakes - take some pride in prep and get the bad stuff out. The Conch is an OK restaurant located on the water, but the restaurant unfortunately squanders its potential with a not so friendly younger staff, an OK food selection, and partially blocking it's ocean view with poor decor choices. Recommendations: Priority #1 - Staff: - enforce friendliness from staff and have more fun with diners, it's a beach restaurant after all and most people are on vacation. I've eaten at the restaurant four times in the past four days (out of convenience) and don't think I saw one employee smile. This is especially true of the few hostesses we experienced who didn't seem to want to be there. As a diner, this is my first entry into the restaurant and a major turnoff. **This also applies to the few times I've called to make a reservation - the staff sounded annoyed that we were calling. Priority #2 - Food: - add new selections and rotate the menu; include healthy options (gluten free, low carb, etc.). I don't think the menu has changed in years. Stopped in for a quick lunch while in the area on business. Beautiful view, good service, and good food. I had the "Seafood Salad" with shrimp, crab, and scallop salad over a garden salad. It was good. I don't know why in my head I expected the seafood to be broiled or something, but it was a mayonnaise based "seafood salad" over a a garden salad. I enjoyed it. We have a house at Garden City and we go there at least two or three nights a week Donny is awesome you look after you if you're not happy you'll make it right we've lived here all of our lives it wouldn't go anywhere else for fried seafood steaks are good it's kid friendly drinks are good, They have the best Long Island Ice-T's anywhere.
