My daughter and future son-in-law were visiting from California . They love fresh and authentic Mexican food. Due to covid thier big wedding in Newport was postponed till next year. Everything I said in my review four months ago is still true. Since it is so close to my university I literally go to Condesa at least three times a month. When my family visits from home, Condesa has also become their top choice, especially since we are Latinx. Everything is so authentic, the staff is so warm and attentive every time. The only time I ever had a less than perfect experience was a Friday night when they were at capacity, and clearly understaffed as the bar tender was waiting on our table (not at the bar) and tending the bar. He took a little long but you couldn't blame him and everything was still amazing. My family and I also came here on Mother's Day and they could not have made it a better experience. They handed out white roses to the mothers, and didn't rush our party of 6 as my mother sipped her margarita, wanting to take her time and enjoy the music. When here for a casual night out. I am not to exploratory when it comes to Mexican so I stick with tacos. I had the carnitas which is basically a Spanish pulled pork was flavorful but the actual corn tortillas they were in were very soggy I ended up pulling the meet out. The rice and refried beans were good but the portion was small. The table comes with a variety of dips for the table which I thought was a nice touch. What would Mexican be without a margarita man for $10 a drink I was hoping for a decent size drink but it was really small and with all the ice I downed that in seconds! This place is definitely trying to be a little more upscale so prices are a little more. To be honest I've been to little taquerias that were better and cheaper. But for there are Mexican choices are limited to I may go back but will skip the drinks for sure not worth the price. read more

Great food and wonderful staff! We picked up takeout from there last night after just getting back from vacation. I went in to pick up the food with my 5 year old daughter and the incredibly sweet bartender, I think her name was Kerri, gave my daughter her purple flower pen, which just made my daughters day, which means it also made my day. Today I went to Condesa for Cinco de Mayo, I have celiac disease and had asked for my taco salad to be gluten free because of my allergy. Unfortunately I got extremely sick. My taco salad tasted off, the dressing was funky. I am extremely disappointed. All 7 of us were very impressed with our selections...Burrito California, Quesadilla Al Pastor, Shrimp Tacos, and the fresh made table side Guac. Let me start this review by saying that me and my family have been to the West Warwick RI location many times in the past and have also visited the Smithfield location. On average once a month and probably about 15 visits a year. I'd also like to state that I usually do not take time to do a review for anything, good or bad, because I am also a business owner and I know how reviews can be misleading so I am only going to review my most recent experience. Unfortunately this will be my last visit to a long time (go to place). This past Sunday, February 20th, my wife decided to get our family together in honor of a birthday get together. Knowing that I like Condesa and that we have had mostly good experiences there, she decided to make that the meeting place. Having a party of 7, she took it upon herself to personally visit the location on Friday the 18th to make the reservation in person. The main reason for the personal visit was to make sure that we were getting a specific location in the restaurant bar area for our party. We wanted a more lively atmosphere and did not want to be placed in the back room on a Sunday afternoon. Upon the arrival of our entire party, the host was starting to bring us to the area that we were specifically trying to avoid. The host was the same exact person that my wife personally spoke with on Friday to go over the specific details of our gathering. At this time, the area that we requested had very few people in it, so accommodating us really wasn't an issue. Instead of just saying that a mistake was made or that it would only take a few minutes to get things ready, he still tried to make it seem as though we were destined for the back area. Then he tried to seat 7 grown adults at a round table for 6 and trying to do everything he could, to NOT put the tables together that were discussed on Friday. He also proceeded to have no recollection of any specific reservation requests. When he finally realized that there was a great deal of dissatisfaction with the situation, did he finally decide to do a little work and put the tables together. It took all of 5 minutes and a little help from a co-worker. A smile would have been nice but that was not in his plans. The food and drinks were the normal experience that had brought us there many times but the mood was set from the beginning by his reluctancy to be accommodating or pleasant. I am sure that his discussions with his co worker/server had left an impression with the server that was less than desirable. The truth of the matter is that we all still made the best of our day and enjoyed the food and each others company and we still tried to overlook the inefficiencies of the host and lack of details of the on site reservation request. Our family visits restaurants quite frequently and I am a firm believer of rewarding the good servers lucratively if it is deservingly so. Once the bill came, I had credit card in hand and ready for the server. He then comes back to the table and tells me that my card was declined. Somewhat embarrassed, I reached into my pocket to grab 1 of the 5 cards that were in there. I went through all of the motions to take the cards from my pocket and jokingly said that the strip must be worn down from use because I had just used it 30 minutes prior. At that point he says, "I was only joking". That was not a joke my friends. It was somebody trying to make me feel uncomfortable. If that's his way of joking, he should not have let me go through the entire process of digging out another credit card. Like I said, food and drinks were on par with previous visits but the actions of those 2 individuals have left an impression with me that I will no longer visit this place. It was a birthday that I will not forget. I regret leaving him the tip that I actually left him, but I'm better than that!! I hope this review finds the right eyes to make a difference. This whole episode could have been avoided at the very beginning if there was a host at the front, deserving of that title. I will not return!! read more

Ordered the fish tacos for takeout. When they brought the bag out I thought it was the wrong order - the bag was huge. Staff is very friendly and the inside is beautiful. When I walked in I actually wished that I didn't call in my order so I could sit at the bar and eat. The fish tacos were excellent, crispy battered fish with fresh authentic preparation. The order came with rice, black refried beans in a crispy shell and chips and salsa. Everything was well prepared and freshly made. There was no way I could finish everything. Decided to try this place after waiting for the place to open since October. Can't say one bad thing! Everyone was very nice. The atmosphere was great. They have a nice bar right when you come in. I sat at a table and got their signature burrito. It was as big as my elbow to my hand. I thought it was fantastic! I took one to go! I also enjoyed the chips and salsa they bring out to start your order. It's a variety of salsa and refried beans. My husband and I had an early dinner at Condesa last night and we were both very impressed! The atmosphere is beautiful and it fills a void for upscale Mexican that has been missing in Rhode Island. The service was great - our waiter was friendly, helpful, and attentive. We were quickly delivered a basket of warm tortilla chips and not one - but four dipping options that included traditional salsa, mild green and spicy red tomatillo salsas, and silky refried beans. The drinks were also fantastic - both the watermelon and blood orange margaritas were fresh tasting and had a good balance of fruit, lime, and of course, tequila! For food, we both enjoyed chicken dishes. I had the Pollo Maya which was unlike any Mexican dish I had ever eaten. The chicken was cooked to perfection, was sitting on a bed of grilled vegetables, and topped with jicama (which I had never tried before but really liked!). On the side was a pile of chipotle mashed potatoes which had a great texture and subtle chipotle flavor. My husband got the Chori Pollo which was grilled chicken topped with Mexican cheese, chorizo, and pineapple. On the side he had rice and beans which were both delicious - he described the refried black beans as the best he had ever eaten. The prices were very reasonable given the high quality and portion sizes (I believe our meals were in the $14-$15 range and we both took home leftovers). What a delight. Finding decent Mexican food is extremely hard in the Northeast in general, and Rhode Island in particular. It's uniformly mediocre, often stuffed with indifferent refried beans or slathered in creams and sauces to disguise the absence of flavor, texture, and character. Condesa is a refreshing alternative. We were attracted by the vegetarian-friendly menu. Several items are marked vegan, and they mean it: even the items that are vegetarian but have (a bit of) cream or cheese aren't marked vegan.That kind of attention to detail and honesty tells you something positive about the people who run the place. (There are more veg dishes on the restaurant menu than in the one online, as of this writing.) The restaurant itself is clean and pleasant, and the vibe is definitely a tiny bit upscale, with tasteful place settings and evocative art. Starting you off with chips and salsa can be tricky for a restaurant, because though customers expect it, if the salsas don't impress, everything else is suspect. Their four salsas were pretty good: one bean, one tipica, one tomatillo, and a hotter chipotle one. While none was stunning, all four held their own, setting high expectations for the mains. The veggie enchiladas and tacos met these expectations. The flavor was subtle, the size was decent (not overwhelming -- again, not stuffed with indifferent beans), and the food was plated with a nice take on the traditional "with rice and beans". There are several more dishes we wanted to try. A vegetarian wheat-berry "ceviche"? The interesting quinoa ensalada? The happy hour appetizer menu seemed to have something, too. That said, the black bean soup had too many clashing flavors and was a bit watery (though some Mexican sopas can indeed be runny), so I'd give it a pass. On top of it, the staff were all friendly and pleasant, from the maitre d' to our waitress. Not too pushy, coming around with just the right frequency, friendly while being professional. I also had a jalapeno margarita. This was a bit more disappointing: I expected more fire in the drink, but the jalapeno floating atop it itself lacked bite. I should have gotten something else: there was a decent selection of Mexican liquor on the menu. So...is this really a five star? Well, maybe it's more like four stars. None of the flavors blew us away, and the soup and margarita were so-so, so everything was competent but at the price it could have gone a notch higher. But, most Mexican places are so indifferent to vegetarians that to find a vegan- and vegetarian-friendly, pleasant, quality Mexican restaurant in a strip mall in Smithfield RI is such a surprise that it deserves an extra star just for that. read more

This place made me happy, there are numerous vegan options on the menu and they're labeled as such. The food was top-notch, I'm so glad we found this place! My only complaint was that my refried beans came with a sprinkling of cheese on top, which I found strange when I ordered a vegan dish. They brought me cheese-less beans so no stars lost. Went here on Friday night and it was pretty good, probably a 3.5. The place is nicely decorated, and I love their little lounge area. The 4 different dips they bring out with the chips are great. The food was good, but the drinks were super weak and very small. The hibiscus margarita tasted like juice. For $10, I expected a little something... unfortunately I had 2 and just felt like I wasted money on them. The lights were also really bright in the dining room area, so it kind of felt cafeteria-ish. I think if they dim the lights a little, and make better drinks, I would go back. This place is a gem, tucked away in a small plaza near Bryant college. The inside is so different from any Mexican restaurant I've ever experienced, but I loved it. The walls are all wood, stained different shades of cool colored tones, and organized in such a unique way. I was a huge fan of that. The hostess who sat us was so pleasant. Our waitress was super attentive and friendly as well. They started us with chips and salsa, but not only do they give you salsa, but a bean dip, tomatillo, and another kind of sauce (can't remember what it was) SO GOOD! I got the enchilada mole which was a bit bland. Chicken in a corn tortilla with the mole sauce and some queso drizzled on top. I threw some salsa on top and it made it a little more flavorful. Paired with rice and beans in a cute little flower shaped tortilla (fried). My boyfriends burrito was not only huge, but super tasty. A lot more so than my dish. I'm definitely down to come back and try something different, but I'd probably never get the enchiladas again. All in all a neat little spot. read more

We showed up a little before 5pm this evening and were greeted at the door by a friendly hostess. The place was quiet so we took a seat at the bar. Loved the modern decor and fun atmosphere. Bar tender very friendly and came right over when we sat down. I recommend the don margarita, very good and they give you a lot! They give you the most awesome salsa/bean dip combo and chips; four different options! We shared the al pastor tacos and the fish tacos and both were delicious! We were stuffed but can't wait to try the deserts next time. The place was almost filled in the dining area as well as the bar when we left about 6pm. We can't wait to go back! read more

My wife and I have been to this place five or six times this past year, sometimes with my daughter and her family. The California burrito is excellent. The prices here do not break the budget. Mexican food has always been a favorite of ours, and this place is near the top of our list. The staff have always been very attentive, and even when going there with young children I've found the staff very willing to accommodate our needs. One chicken, one beef, one shredded beef. (3 is the magic number). The draft beer selection with Dos Equis Amber and others is super. The margarita was very good that my wife had and she would order it again. Get the one with sidecar for 14 bucks, it works. The waitress we had was attentive, quick, and tolerant of us cranky middle aged Mexican food lovers. The tables are too small to fit 4 people with all the food, salsa's, and guacamole.
