I came here because of a friend's recommendation - they mentioned it was quality food at a great price. I dont think it had a dedicated parking lot, so we parked on the street, really close to the place. When I walked in, I was drawn to the simple, yet beautiful decor. The walls are dark, which really helped to bring out the plants (plastic) they have all around. Some of the tables are a bit close together, but we secured a booth in the back. The menu offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner and has a lot of options with different meats and fish, appetizers, soups, as well as side dishes like plantains, beans, and extras. I was gravitated towards many dishes, but I went with the fried chicken with lemon which came with rice, beans, and salad (for an additional +1). The food came out after about 10-15 minutes and it was a big plate. There were about six small pieces of chicken including a wing, thighs, a leg, and breast, about a cup of rice, a cup of beans, and a handful of salad. The chicken was very good. It was well seasoned, crispy, you could taste the hint of lemon. The beans were tender and flavorful with the right viscosity in the broth. The rice, although simple, was also tasty. The salad was fresh, but I wish it came with a homemade dressing instead of just lime, and that there was more of it. Overall, I was satisfied. I tried some of my friend's fried plantain, and just by the look of it, I knew they were perfectly ripe. I was right, and they were delicious - sweet and caramelized. Love, love, love it here! A few times I ordered The Lunch Box for delivery and they never let me down. My family and I all love this place very much. I brag about it all the time. The food is AMAZING and the customer service is great! Also the portions are beyond amazing, and the price is great too. I really have no complaints at all! I have even come here a few times to eat outside on their little patio and I love the feeling and the atmosphere they present here. The servers are so nice and attentive. I would recommend this place if you are looking for Spanish food, such a great place and very tasty food! Make sure you try the hugo de chinola (passion fruit juice) it's so good I love it! Whenever I meet a local Dominican in Rhode Island, I ask them for their favorite Dominican restaurant. Recently someone recommended The Lunchbox and I decided to try it. I had dropped off a friend at the airport and decided to try it as I was nearby. I arrived too early for lunch service, but they offered mangú (mashed plantains) a Dominican staple. It was really good with all the fixings. (Photo below) The following week I went to pick up lunch. I had the stewed chicken with rice and beans--again pretty flavorful. I'll repeat this again. Yesterday, I went for their sancocho (traditional soup/stew) the owner told me that it was the best and honestly, it was the best sancocho I've had in many years. My only complaint is that it is only available Mondays, I'd go back for sancocho any day of the week. This was full of traditional flavors, with many types of meats (beef, hen, smoked pork chops) as well as all the traditional root vegetables that other restaurants seem to not include. This is a small no frills kind of place, but if you appreciate really authentic Dominican flavors, this is the place. I hope they continue consistently cooking this delicious food. They don't just do Dominican food but American breakfast. This place reminds me of the Dominican restaurants around broad street Providence. I decided to check this new restaurant they i've never been to before but I always pass by when I'm driving here to go to see my dentist. walking in they have a nice patio and I was greeted in a friendly manner by the service staff. I was advised to get the 3 Golpes (Dominican breakfast or 3 hit on the heads. Yikes!): 2 Eggs, fried salami, fried cheese and mangu. I am ordering this for someone but it looked good on the menu so I decided to order myself one too. Drinks called the chinola is a passion fruit drink is something to try while here. I bought the lemonade and passion. I tried to finish but because my eating habits having drastically changed: Very little carbs, more salads and fruits. It was hard to finish my meal because of all the fried meats/cheese and carbs. The service was wonderful and breakfast did not align with what am used to but did love the drink. $6 for the large was a good deal. Give this mom and pops shop out! My issue and 2 star is because of the 18% gratuity charge that they don't inform you of when paying, leaving you to tip more than you were meaning to. (Which is something I didn't find out until I got my receipt) I also found the service to be mediocre. I received my food well before my water, and my friend with me had to ask for their drink after already ordering and reminding the staff multiple times. While I'd suggest going for the good food, I'd say to keep in mind the charges you're paying while checking out. read more

The owner then told me that toast did not come with the meal so it was not in the bag. I told her I would pay for the toast. I mean it's toast. You could have added it but that is that nickel and dime stuff I don't like. Paid for my toast and left thinking damn, they are not very friendly in there. Got my food back to work and open it. Took a bite of the Sausage, Salami and even the Mangu (First time trying it) and they were good. I asked for over hard eggs because I don't like runny eggs. They were not fully cooked. The cheese was hard in the middle. I then looked down at my plate and saw my food was sitting in one inch of oil. My toast was not even buttered and you charged me for that? At that point it turned my stomach and I was only able to eat the meats and the top of the mangu. I threw the rest away! Even asked me during checkout for a tip. Tip for what? Picking it up? I could and May go back and try something else. I may not. Pricey for regular food but more important I felt I did not belong there. If that is their customer service, then that would be why I never return. It is 2023 and I hope the owner reads this and makes improvements. I give an average rating coz the overall experience was not too fascinating. Fried chicken was way too dry. Chicken gravy was the best among everything we ordered there. Pork was dry too. Quantity of rice is too much,so you might want to request for lesser quantity rather than waste it all. Ok, so I discovered this little hole in the wall on accident. The staff is very nice but, not all are bilingual. Not too hard since I get the same thing every time. I love it so much I've not found a reason to try something new. It is a relatively small place but never packed. Food is always quick. I always get the Pollo Frito with white rice and beans. It is simply amazing and for $6, depending on the two available sizes, you get so much food. The other thing you can't deny is the price. It's cheap quick and excellent Spanish food. First time trying out the foods so I ordered one of the dish Fried Fish the price listed $15 on menu but when the bill came it was charged $40. Then we asked our server he is Hispanic man dark skinny tall looking, why is the dish $40 then he said we are out of small fish so we gave you the bigger fish. First of all if you gonna give us a bigger fish you should let your customers know in advance to see if they agree to pay for the price difference but none of that. Also charged 20% tip on the check for just party of 2 people. How do you stay in business if you just want to rob your customers left and right. This was definitely mediocre Dominican food. As a Dominican woman, I was not impressed with any element of this dish. The carne de res was cut very irregularly which left the meat stringy and unpleasant to chew. The garden salad was the best aspect of this dish as it provided a nice palette refresher with the heavy use of vinegar as a dressing. The beans were not as tender nor as thick as they should be. Really did not have any flavor at all either. The beans were definitely unsatisfactory and the worst part of the dish. The only upside? They pack this $7 plate with loads of rice that's cooked very well. Would not recommend the lunch specials, you get what you pay for to say the least. read more

Red flags from the first minute we walked in ,the place was completely empty .We were thinking it was still fairly early ,maybe lunch is busier. The smell of cleaner was so bad and not in a good way,it was really really bad think Odoban cleaner drenched the whole place so much you could taste it . We ordered easy breakfasts with my hubby ordering 3 eggs over easy w/ sausage he got two I ordered scrambled eggs w/ bacon but got maybe one egg not really scrambled you could see It looked like one egg scraped off the grill with brown grill bits , not scrambled at all . Toast came out for both breakfasts in something holding the bread , barely toasted . What really got me was being ignored by the two women working that day . They couldn't be bothered talking to us or asking if everything was ok despite us being the only people in the place . Another thing is they add on tips but also got tipped on our horrible breakfasts that were really sub par by any restaurant standards . My family and I often pass by this place but we stopped to give it a try. It was a great experience. If you are expecting a full service wait staff, this is not the place for you. There was one very kind and helpful lady, that took orders as well as managed the check out inside. The atmosphere was very relaxed. We ate outside under the umbrellas and that was a great option for us as we have young kids. We came just before the lunch rush and never had any problems with waiting, but the many people who came after may have had to. Now onto the food: my fried fish was EXCELLENT. I'm from the Eastern Caribbean and the whole fried snapper took me back to Mother's kitchen in the islands. My husband and son had the fried chicken, which they enjoyed. The tostones were ok, I should have gotten regular fried plantains instead. Overall, a 4.5 for food, 4 for service, but a 5 for overall experience. We throughly enjoyed our lunch here. read more
