So what you need to understand about this place is that it's crappy in the BEST WAYYY! The food is so cheesy and not high quality but it's so insanely delicious and not good for you. It's very tiny and usually not insanely packed. The margaritas are a MUST. It's got a very vintage, dark, welcoming dive bar vibe but also in Mexico if that makes sense? Service is always the best too! They're my favorite thing about this place. I think this place doesn't get good reviews cause people don't understand that this place is nostalgic and perfectly imperfect.

Margaritas

I have been going to Conejitos since I was a small child. Every time I go I hope for better service, but it continues to go downhill. They have closed most of the restaurant squeezing everyone into the original bar area which doesn't provide much room and in winter it is cold with the door constantly opening! The food came very quickly and the server checked on us constantly, but it was to the point of definitely feeling rushed and pushed out the door. The prices are still good with the exception of nearly $5 for the tiny margaritas they hand out. They also do not offer "free" water. If you want water you need to pay for a bottle which I find absolutely ridiculous. As for the food, it is delicious as always. I wish the environment would improve because it was keep me from going back. the beans with cheese are so yummy. My mouth waters just thinking about it! The tacos were good, with moist meat and a healthy amount of toppings. The tostadas are my favorite and I always order them! Do not miss out by passing these up!

Ah Conejitos, where to begin? It has this mythical, legendary status amongst the Milwaukee locals. Why the legendary status? I'm not sure to be honest. Maybe it's the simple fact they serve the food on paper plates. The price is definitely right if you are on a budget. The margaritas are definitely on point, maybe the best in the city. After that though, there is not much to offer here. The food is not authentic and the place looks rundown. I like a simple, hole in the wall joints but this place just feels old and outdated. The tacos come with lettuce and tomato - gringo style anyone? The menu options are limited and the food just lacks in quality and flavor. There are so many great Mexican restaurants nearby, I would only steer someone here to experience it for what it is: A simple, average and inexpensive meal with some really solid margaritas. I'm all about trying new places, so if you've never been go ahead and try it once, but I highly doubt you will return.

Overall: 2.3 Service: 4 Food: 1 Value: 2 Entree: combo tacos Based on two local recommendations, we had high hopes for this place and expected quality Mexican food. It seems popular due to its affordability, but I wouldn't eat here again even if you paid me. The meat lacks flavor and seasoning. The cheese on the enchiladas is akin to Velveeta, possibly even the real thing. The margaritas are potent but served in small glasses. While it's quick and inexpensive, the food isn't good.

This place is disgusting. Soda was good, chips and beans were good. Everything else including service is disgusting.

Tiny menu (like 5 options) and bland food. I'm beginning to think that Wisconsin has no good Mexican food.

For our entrees, I got the taco truck dinner with pork pivil as my meat of choice. The meat was juicy, tender and had lots of flavor! The pinto beans had a nice smoky flavor. My boyfriend got the queso chimichanga. It didn't come with rice and beans, as they are inside the chimichanga. We both agreed, the queso was a nice addition to the chimichanga. I would definitely come back to try more of the menu!

The guacamole had a strong citrus flavor which I am a fan of and the salsa was complimentary! I would HIGHLY recommend the best burrito ($15) as they did not skimp on any ingredient, especially the flavorful pork pibil. My only qualm was that the rice was undercooked and slightly crunchy, but otherwise an affordable and tasty restaurant for a date night. The staff were friendly, service was fast (less than 10min to receive food after ordering) and the restaurant had bright and colorful furniture and decor which were true to theme.

We'd been coming to Central Waters for a while, when one night we found ourselves hungry. Since Troublemakers Cocina was open, we gave it a try. We've been hooked ever since! Our two favorite menu items are the Carne Asada Fries and the Carne Asada Burrito. Both are flavorful, fresh, and filling. Triple threat! Prices are reasonable and the staff are always friendly. Plus you can have a scrumptious beer from Central Waters while you wait for your beeper to go off. And the setting is in an old gorgeous church converted into a brewery/event space. You can't beat that ambiance! Prices are reasonable, the space is clean, and there is plenty of seating for groups of all sizes. And there are screens for watching games. This place is an all-around winner! Hungry and thirsty, make your way to Troublemakers Cocina today!

It's Saturday and I'm thinking......Don Lucho!!!!!…read more The team has been up since late night roasting and boiling and creating the most amazing carnitas you will find in Milwaukee. Get here early - parking sucks, and suburbanites will freak out at the hood, but no worries Jesus is right next door at St. Josaphats basilica and will watch over you. And don't forget to take a tour of one of this country's most beautiful cathedrals. Right there by Don Luchos. You can eat here. Lots of long communal tables so don't be shy. Prices aren't cheap but this is quality. I usually get a pound or so of carnitas. They measure it out, it's steaming, and ask if you want it chopped. I say yes. It's wrapped up tightly and it will feed you all weekend. This meat is freaking amazing!!!! I pray they haven't run out of homemade tortillas, but like I said, you gotta come EARLY. Sigh. There's about 6 different amazing salsas to try. Smoky, fresh, green, red, hot sweet - I get two for the weekend. I consider a quart of menudo. I think about. Lamb, goat, barbacoa, chorizo - but I have enough. Too hungry to wait to go home, I sit down to eat. Two tacos - huge! The best was the barbacoa - tasty little carmelized deeply flavored meat bits. Hey - don't go expecting American extras like sour cream or cheese. This is the real thing. Warming: one taco will do you. Got a side of rice and beans - yum. Don Lucho is a treasure. It is authentic, mom and pop, and these are the businesses I love to support. For an incredible adventure and source of authentic carnitas, git yourself down to da south side ya day hair and ENJOY!!!!!!
