Conti's is a bit off the beaten track (takes me an hour to get there), but it's a hidden gem, well worth it. The staff are very nice and the ambiance is wonderfully vintage. I searched around for a bakery to make a customized cake for my Birthday and came across Conti's. My order was placed in short notice on Father's Day and they were still able to complete my order on top and to perfection. The cake was identical to the picture I sent them. The cake itself was delicious and beautiful. Everyone loved the decor as well as the taste. I appreciate the owner taking time out of her busy day to accommodate my request and provide suggestions for the flavor and type of filling to add. My was butter cream on the outside. Sooo overrated, overpriced and not worth the money! I was really rooting for Conti's. Although the staff is very friendly, they seriously need to work on taking direction. I sent an email and spoke to a person over the phone about specifics on a cake for my sons 7th birthday. His name was butchered! How do you misspell a name that is given to you via email?! The theme was supposed to be gold and blue.. where did the yellow and silver come from? To top it off the cake was supposed to be delivered from 12-2; the cake arrived at 4pm. My party was supposed to start at 2pm and had to wait for them to arrive. I also paid for candle sparklers and never received that either. For spending so much money I was expecting better. Imagine saying anything negative about Conti's lol. I was a bakery girl in my youth and the young women here are great. No attitudes and you can tell they strive to be helpful and kind. But I can even take a nasty attitude- this is NYC and for anything such a good food, nails, hair or basically any service industry you're going to have to accept our "rude" culture. This is a love letter to their linzer tarts. Years ago I only ate linzer tarts from a small bakery which was further down Morris Park Ave and they had the shaved almonds on top and it was worth the Tyrone Biggums powder face just to consume one then have to wipe the whole car down lookin like a kilo of coke deployed out the air bag. When that bakery closed I wandered forlornly around the Bronx looking for a shadow of a replacement. When I finally went in Conti's after having experienced sub par linzers for years and had one of theirs, my happy days were here again. Lived on Long Island for twenty years where I was a certified Linzer Tart specialist since the 80s and then have been in the Bx 21 years seeking the perfect LT. I am happy to report that a Conti's linzer tart alone in the car with my two kids upstairs fighting over the last three feet of fruit horse hoof snacks is a small but meaningful part of life. I will miss the shaved almonds forever of linzer tarts past, but the texture and the jam I get from a Conti's linzer tart more than softens the blow. P.S. So absolutely disappointed with my custom cake experience from Conti's. I ordered a custom cake for my boyfriend's 30th birthday to be a "rock climbing" themed cake with a beer bottle on top. I provided Conti's with photos of his favorite places to climb, which showed rock ledges combined with greenery and an overall natural landscape. I also explained that I was comfortable with the use of fondant for its ability to enhance the decorative nature of a cake as well as flexible on my budget since I had no clue how much this custom cake could be. Well, what I got was a grey misshapen heap that resembled a pile of turds more so than anything. The cake looks like something made by a four year old. You can't tell what it's supposed to resemble at all. After seeing the creativity and quality of the cakes posted on Conti's Instagram page, I am absolutely shocked they could not have done a better job on this cake. I know I was going for a pretty esoteric concept, but even just some extra incorporation of greenery would have made all the difference in making this cake look fun and at least recognizable to some sort of theme aside from a beer bottle on a grey pile of who knows what. Also opted for delivery and the packing of the cake was horrendous. Almost had a MAJOR accident as the cake was handed off to us in two box halves barely held together by a feebly applied single strip of clear packaging tape. Upon being handed the cake, the tape let loose, the boxes separated, and the cake FELL. Luckily caught by us with a second to spare but you can see the some tiny damage where the beer bottle is. Literally almost had no cake. Worst part is that this hideous cake, which I'm embarrassed to share any such picture of beyond this review, cost $90!!!! Insanity. Custom cake buyers beware. read more

Horrific. Experience. I mean. The worst. My family and I have been coming here for years. I can't even believe how absurd this experience was. My sister called ahead for a strawberry shortcake to be picked up at 5p with custom writing. She did not pay a deposit. I dropped by at 530 to pick up the cake and pay. After about 15 minutes of waiting, A woman behind the counter called my number, 61, and asked for my order. She disappears to the back to grab the cake. 15 minutes later the woman comes back out with the cake. The cake looks terrible. It looked as if someone had dug their fingers into multiple places on the cake. She informed me that this was the last one and I had to choose something else. I ended up having to go with red velvet cheesecake. 20 minutes had gone by and I'm still waiting. During the wait, the staff thought it was acceptable to start closing. They begin turning off all lights sweeping up, counting out the drawer all while I'm still standing there waiting for this cake. Employees were leaving, the manager on duty came out to help clean up and didn't think to ask why a customer was still standing there, in the dark, after closing. At this point I'm livid and I ask to speak to the manager. The owner comes out and asks whats going on. I let him know and the OWNER turns to the girls and I quote says " NO MORE FUCKING LIGHTS OFF WHEN CUSTOMERS ARE HERE. I SENT IT IN THE GROUP MESSAGE. IF YOU WANT IT IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE ILL DO THAT TOO. Omg. I. Was. Petrified. After, he turns to me and says he's straightened it out. No "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" no " I'll take care of this since this isn't even the cake you've order " nothing. I was on the hunt for the elusive banana pudding after having it at the Bronx Night Market from Jess Puddin. I could not find one in the Bronx so a friend told me why don't I try Conti's Bakery in the Bronx. I said that sounds like a good idea. I called Conti's to see if they had banana pudding. They informed that they do not make banana pudding but they told me that they make a banana creme pie. After speaking with them on the phone they told me that they only have 4 left. I asked them to save one for me so that I can pick it up they agreed. When I arrived to pick up the Banana creme pie no one put it on hold for me so I had to wait for them see if they had anymore remaining. After waiting for about 15 minutes they told me that they have it and that they would box it up for me I paid for it and then left. I was so eager to dive into this Banana Creme pie due to all the hype about Conti's. Boy was I disappointed. This banana creme pie was bland and lacked any kind of flavor. I didn't taste any banana flavor to it. It was missing some seasoning, some spice, some nutmeg. The whipped creme was airy but did not add anything to the pie. It needed some kind of texture to it. It was unflavored mush on top of unflavored mush. I know that they make other things but my first experience with purchasing something from there was a complete letdown. I had so much excitement going into trying this place due to the reviews. I was hoping to have my socks blown off but they weren't. I ordered a custom hungry caterpillar theme birthday cake for my sons 1st birthday and it was great! I gave them 2 weeks noticed as requested to prepare the cake, the filling was Boston creme and the cake was confetti. Outside layer was fondue with decorations of food from the book; apple, blueberry, cupcake etc. it was little sweet but enough to eat a slice or two. It filled about 20-25 people. We used Conti's for our wedding for both a small two-tier cutting cake and 140 donuts for our guests for dessert. The cake was beautiful and I cannot overstate enough how big of a hit the donuts were. So many incredible designs and flavors (we ordered 10 of each of their 14 flavors), and our venue and wedding coordinator had so much fun setting them up on a donut display at the venue. At my job, we order a ton of cakes from Conti's so I know how delicious the cakes are but I was shocked by the poor customer service. Today, I decided to stop by for a coffee & a pastry. When I walked through the door, I saw a ticket stand but there were barely any people in the store. It was my first time there so I wasn't sure what to do when it's not busy. I made eye contact with one of the girls in the front & I asked, "Should I take a #?" and she ignored me. I took one anyway & made myself a cup of coffee. The girls started calling out #'s and they quickly called out mine. I didn't know what I wanted just yet but once I figured it out, I asked one of the girls in the front for help and again, I was ignored. Her expression was as if it was absolutely painful to help me. I walked over to her AGAIN & asked for help. She asked me for my # and when I told her, a few of the girls were mumbling back and forth. Please keep in mind, there were barely any customers and I am not asking these girls to cook me a full course meal. Finally, the same girl came around the counter and I pointed to what I wanted. She dragged herself behind the counter and I was just so over the tension that I decided to buy the cupcakes on top of the counter so I can get out of there. Such a shame that the cakes and pastries are tasty & the coffee was decent which is why I gave 3 stars. But I had to deduct two stars for all the ignoring and uncomfortable customer service. read more

I just walked into Conti's and the the employees who attended passed by and hid from me and kept on going to the back I had to wait for 30!!!! MINUTES. There was no one there in the bakery it was empty and I kept saying hello and they just ignored me each time a girl passed by in the front. If I could put zero stars I would. The boss and manager don't even wear masks and there's no Covid regulations , I've seen the bakery full with people and people with no masks walk in. I've stopped coming into this place but I think everyone should know. The girls have even crushed my food and gave me attitude when all I wanted was my food. We picked red velvet with buttercream and it was so amazingly delicious. I showed them an example of how I wanted my cake to look and was stunned at how perfect it was, even better than the example. Decided to come here while I was strolling in Morris Park. I got the cold brew with tricolor cannoli and Boston cream pie. The cannoli was delicious- had perfect amount of sweetness. I definitely recommend getting some. The Boston cream pie was good and is made by the original recipe from long time ago. They also sell Italian bread and I recommend getting some.
